[Bug 1389021] Re: Does not detect hotplugged storage device (exfat)

2014-11-09 Thread SimonW
Same thing here.

Prior to upgrading to ubuntu 14.10 the SD Card of my camera used to be
automatically mounted when I plugged it in. Now, this does not happen
and mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt returns:

mount: /dev/sdb1: more filesystems detected. This should not happen,
use -t type to explicitly specify the filesystem type or
use wipefs(8) to clean up the device.

mount -t exfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt does the job.

fdisk -l /dev/sdb returns:

Disk /dev/sdb: 63 GB, 63482711040 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7718 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 37719620027737 HPFS/NTFS
Warning: Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.

[Bug 1320571] [NEW] Regression: Canon Selphy CP 520 not working with version 5.2.10

2014-05-17 Thread SimonW
Public bug reported:

After upgradingfrom ubuntu 13.10 to ubuntu 14.04 (gutenprint version
5.2.10~pre2-0ubuntu2) my Canon Selphy CP520 stopped working. The printer
takes in the paper but never prints. Downgrading gutenprint to version
5.2.9 solved issue. Thus, this is clearly a regression which happened
between this two versions.

[Bug 1068354] [NEW] qtoctave depends on octave3.2 instead of octave

2012-10-18 Thread SimonW
Public bug reported:

In Precise qtoctave depends on octave3.2. It would make more sense if it
would just depend on the octave packet which in turn depends on the
current version.

I.e. I have octave 3.6 installed. I'm sure the version of qtoctave
provided in Precise will work together with octave 3.6 perfectly.
However, I cannot install qtoctave as is depends on octave3.2 which is
in conflict with octave 3.6.

[Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects

2012-08-17 Thread SimonW
I've tested the newest kernel (3.6.0-rc1) and the problem persists.
Christopher, if you isist I will also try the alpha of ubuntu 12.10.

There is an upstream bug for this issue:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39082
Although the uptream bug was never marked as fixed there is a proposed fix
which is inlcuded in 3.6.0-rc.

Since this bug appears to affect only me and Kris the source of this bug
might also be the firmware of the access-point. Unfortunately I do not
have a second access point to test. Given that there has been a lot of
developement on the affected kernel module (iwlwifi) which has led to no
change I believe this is the most probable expaination. Therefore, I
mark this bug as invalid. If you come across this issue please reopen.

Dear ubuntu gurus, please consider updating the version shipped with Precise

unusable.
In the meantime if you run across this issue you can download and install the
latest .deb from

[Bug 988576] Re: Wlan connection continuously disconnects

2012-04-26 Thread SimonW
I've checked upstrem if there is an existing bug. [1] seems to be
related. In [1] the speed of wlan is very unstable. This corresponds to
what I experience with kernel 3.0.0-17. Now, with kernel 3.2.0-23 or
newer this issue seems to have become worse and no packets get though
anymore.

I can now remember that I had the issue with unstable wlan speed long
time ago. Since I had permanently disabled n mode I didn't notice the
bug until now.

Disabling n-mode solves the described issure:
sudo rmmod iwlwifi
sudo modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1

You can permanently disable n-mode by issuing:
sudo echo options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf

I would definitely like to report my issues upstream. However I'm not
sure whether to open a new bug or append to [1]. What is your
recommendation?

[Bug 988576] [NEW] Wlan connection continuously disconnects

2012-04-25 Thread SimonW
Public bug reported:

After the update from Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04. Wlan continuously
disconnects (Kernel 3.2.0-23) and netweork manager tries to reconnect
again. I actually never get a working connection. When I boot the old
kernel of 11.10 (Kernel 3.0.0-17) Wlan works. However the speed at which
the connection operates is unstable.

I expect wlan to work with 12.04. Using my mobile phone I have no
issues. Further I cannot remember having had any issues with Ubuntu
11.10.

The version of network-manager is 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu3

I have attached the syslogs and dmesg for both kernels.

I've tried to upgrade to kernel 3.4-rc3 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-rc3-precise/. However in this case the
sysmptoms are identic to kernel 3.2.0-23.

Switch back to kernel 2.6.35-28 from maverick solved most issues for me.

[Bug 576378] Re: After resume from suspend battery icon shows depleted regardless of charge

2010-05-09 Thread SimonW
I believe, the cause of this bug is that the acpi changes the units in
which it reports the battery-status after suspend.

After Booting
[code]
 cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info
[/code]
delivers the remaining capacity in mA. If you suspend your PC and wake it up
then the units become mW for a short while. Later on they are, again, reported
in mA. The output is always correct, but the indicator-applet misinterpretes it.

@tekstr1des: Could you please do me a favor and check if you can
reproduce Bug #575941

[Bug 368852] [NEW] Cannot move a directory bigger than avvailable disk space

2009-04-28 Thread SimonW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

If you try to merge two Folders, where actually one is bigger than the
available disk space Nautilus says: Not enough disk-space. As files
are only moved this shouldn't be a problem.

How to reproduce:

- in eg. ~/ create a folder, lets call it MyDir
- fill MyDir with data. There must be more data inside here than still availabe
on the Disk (eg. 1,6GB in MyDir, 1GB free)
- in eg. ~/Documents create an empty folder called MyDir
- cut MyDir from ~/ and paste it into ~/Documents
- You are asked if you want to merge the data of the two folders. Answer with
merge.
- After some space-calculations you get a message: Not enough disk-space

[Bug 293046] Re: evolution hangs on wakeup while pinging imap server

2009-03-31 Thread SimonW
Hi Sebastian, hi all!

Which information do you need?

I experience the same bug in jaunty .

If the network-connection gets lost, while evoulution is performing
interactions with the IMAP-server, it hangs.
Killing evolution is no solution. It wont restart until you have rebooted my
PC. -Very annoing.

Here is how to reproduce the bug:

You will need a slow internet-connection, or you might consider to slow
down your computer, by running a resources-houngry application

-Start evolution
-while it syncronizes with your IMAP-server pull out the network-cable
-Click the [X] to close evolution - It wont close
-Open the system-monitor, choose processes, end evolution
-Start evolution - No window appears
-in system-monitor check if evolution is running. Should be active and consume
a lot of CPU-time

Thank you!

Simon

Hey knuutsen!

What is the exact problem?

I tell you what I did: I compiled the kernel with 8.04 and updated to

differ from what is the standard.

good luck best regards,

PS: I forgot: The latest version of fglrx (8.10 i think) did not work with the
kernel I posted. You can move over to radeonhd; except for performance it has
only advantages.

[Bug 134856] Re: Harddisk to slow on HP 6715s

2008-10-28 Thread SimonW
Hey knuutsen,

the current version of 8.10 works with Kernel 2.6.25 (however I don't
know if support won't be dropped). This kernel supports all Hardware-
Components of the 6715s, including WLAN. I uploaded two ready-made .deb
Packages, with work well on my machine (6715s).

1. Install Intrepid
2. Get .deb them from:
http://www.gigasize.com/get.php?d=nnpwrfzycfc
http://www.gigasize.com/get.php?d=dyy3xv4j3lb

(If you like, source from:
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.25.2.tar.bz2)

3. Install Test 2.6.25.2
4. If it works, remove all 2.6.27 kernel packages, including linux-image,
linux-headers-generic, linux-generic to prevent the system from installing
kernel-updates.

Best regards,
Simon

You could try to compile the kernel version 2.6.25 (Version 2.6.26
should work too) by yourself and disable HighRes Timers and the Tickless
feature (eighter in the .config or by passing nohz=off). It's really
easy and on my computer everything works (including WLAN).

Best regards,
Simon

[Bug 134856] Re: Harddisk to slow on HP 6715s

2008-09-04 Thread SimonW
On my computer passing nohz=off to the Kernel solves all issues! This
will disable the Tickless-feature.

I filed a related bug. See:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10778

Best regards,
Simon Waid

[Bug 214019] Re: kernel 2.6.24-15 only works with noapic on HP/Compaq 6715s

2008-04-20 Thread SimonW
Hi, Leann, hi everyone.

I've tried around a bit.

I found out, that when booting with the option nohz=off my system works
completely normal. Thus the problem is not apci, but the Tickless option.
I also tried to compile the vanilla kernel (2.6.25-rc9). The same problem
apperared. Thus this is not an ubuntu specific problem.

If you like you can mark this bug as invalid or whatsoever. I am sorry
for bothering you.

It would however be great if this problem could be fixed, such that
eighter the Tickless-option is automaticaly disabled or the probem is
solved. This would make life easier for some people I think.

I attached my system-information as requested by the policies.

Thank you a lot,
best regards,
Simon

[Bug 214019] [NEW] kernel 2.6.24-15 crashes on HP/Compaq 6715s

2008-04-08 Thread SimonW
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-15-generic

Hello!

When starting without options my HP/Compaq 6715s will hang after
entering the LUKS-Passphrase.

When using noapic as a Kernel-Parameter my system starts, but Disk
performance is too slow to make the system usable. This problem with the
Disk was already present in the 32-Bit version of Gutsy, but not in the
64-Bit-Version.

I would be happy to deliver any Information you might need, but I am no
expert, so you have to instruct me.

Also I would like to say that the Kernel of Gutsy stated that a timer
was not connected on startup, now this information is missing.

Thank you a lot,

regards,
Simon Waid
