[Bug 1532539] [NEW] No Sound HP Probook 440 G3 (Intel Skylake, Conexant Code)

2016-01-10 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

This is similar with #1525554 but for a different laptop model. As in
#1525554 I have no sound at all, audio card is not detected (apart from
HDMI interfaces).

In this case it also works the workaround that was proposed at #1525554:

* Execute alsa_setup.sh from http://www.stchman.com/alsa_update.html which
creates a new "Dummy Output" that does not work
* Run "sudo alsa force-reload" 3 times with ~15 sec
* Tadam! Sound is working

I will shortly post extra logs after the workaround.

[Bug 1532539] Re: No Sound HP Probook 440 G3 (Intel Skylake, Conexant Code)

2016-01-10 Thread SqUe
The above collected logs are AFTER applying the workaround, so that you
can see the difference in dmesg with and without the workaround.

Finally I can confirm exactly the same behaviour with kernel 4.4-rc8 but
that installation does not exist anymore to post logs.

[Bug 1525554] Re: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2016-01-09 Thread SqUe
I have a brand new HP 440 G3 (Not 470) and it does exactly the same
problem. I can confirm that the workaround that instructs you to use
stchman's alsa_setup.sh and make 3 force-reloads of alsa works!! But it
is still a very ugly workaround.

I am on Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 using mainline 4.4-rc8 kernel.

I have no x86-64 setup on any pc and I am out of time to experiment
right now. I should notice here that apart from the old one misbehaving
image, to reproduce it is as easy as making a fresh 10.04.1 i386 MINIMAL
installation through libvirt or by directly using kvm with command line.
After the installation has finished succesfully, it will never boot.

[Bug 666180] [NEW] KVM does not boot Ubuntu i386 10.04 minimal sever images

2010-10-25 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

After upgrade from 10.04 - 10.10 all the libvirt domains did not boot
and the cpu usage went 100%. Trying to isolate the problem I found that
kvm on maverick is unable to boot ubuntu 10.04 i386 virtual minimal
setup. Other guests versions booted just fine. I even moved the image to
another computer with also maverick edition and tried to boot the images
there with no success.

I then tried to make a new guest installation using 10.04.1 i386 server
iso with 'minimal virtual' option ON. The setup went just fine but
trying to boot the fresh install ended on the same thing. Trying to do
the same with a debian guest worked with no problems.

The actual effect is that when KVM boots the disk images, grub is
executed and after that, black screen (on guest) and 100% cpu usage on
host.

Notice: All hosts and guests are i386. I made the same tests through
libvirt and by directly using kvm to boot the images from the terminal.

[Bug 444123] Re: karmic beta live cd no display output (no X, no tty)

2009-10-25 Thread SqUe
Hi I am affected from the same bug. Tested with an earlier alpha version
and the current karmic RC with 32bit and 64bit. After the boot menu ,
the ubuntu logo flashes and it disappears showing a cursor blinking, no
feedback no nothing. In jaunty it works perfectly.

CPU: Phenom II x3 720be
M/B: M4A79 deluxe
GPU: ATI 3850 512MB

The only similarity that I can find is the AMD platform.

[Bug 424864] Re: Video colors appear inverted in Karmic Alpha 5 with non-free driver.

2009-10-17 Thread SqUe
I can confirm the same problem and the fix with reseting hue to default.
What is really wierd is that VLC gets affected too! And it is affected
in real time (playing video with vlc and changing settings from totem).
Are those settings of Totem or it is just a UI for gstreamer?

The same error happens even from host details-storage and add new volume.
However I created a new storage pool inside my home folder and the virt-manager
was able to create
new volumes with no problem. I think it is definetly a perminsions problem.

[Bug 405388] Re: virt-manager cannot create image file

2009-10-02 Thread SqUe
After playing around with virtual manager. I finally understood what is
the problem. I am writing it down for the next one with the same
problem.

As defined here: http://libvirt.org/drvqemu.html
The libvirt QEMU driver is a multi-instance driver, providing a single system
wide privileged driver (the system instance), and per-user unprivileged
drivers (the session instance). The of the driver protocol is qemu. Some
example conection URIs for the libvirt driver are: qemu:///session,
qemu:///system

What is happening is that virtual manager lists only qemu://session (the
user instance of driver) This instance session does not have
privileges to write to system pool, it has only the privileges of the
user. If someone is trying to create a new virtual disk from the
qemu://session in the system pool, it will not work.

If you are local admin of libvirt (by default all local admins are
libvirtd admins too) you can add manage the system instance by
navigating file-add connection and select hypervision QEMU/KVM and
connection local. This will add one more connection that will be named
localhost(System). This connection is priviliged you can even edit
networks, create machines in the main pool and AFAIK vms that reside in
system instance can be configured to auto-start too.

This bug seems invalid, but there is a bug that the interface is not
helping new-comer. A bug could be considered that the first time you run
virtual-manager, it runs with session connection but the only
available pool is from system

with compiz (normal profile). The bug is 100% reproducible in firefox
3.5 and chromium 4.0.213.1. Nothing special installed.

[Bug 439554] [NEW] Backport X-Forwarded-* header parsing bugfix.

2009-09-30 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

pastedeploy has a feature to auto-create urls when it is served behind a
proxy. Urls are created using the X-Forwarded-*. In hardy version the
urls are crafted using the X-Forwarded-Server which was wrong as this is
the hostname of the server and not the host that the client request.
This can leaded to creating URLs using lan host names rather than the
actual public host that the proxy is listing to. The problem has been
described by a user in their mailing list in the past
http://pythonpaste.org/archives/message/20070813.221354.d0a58db6.ca.html
#paste-users

This was fixed in later versions.
In 1.3.2, the one included in 8.10 and 9.04, it just give more priority to
X-Forwarded-Host than X-Forwarded-Server header.
In 1.3.3, the one included in Karmic, it is properly fixed and even supports
different schemes using the X-Forwarded-Scheme.

As this is a blocking bug to deploy loggerhead behind apache's reverse
proxy using ssl, I would love to see an upstream update rather than
using custom hack.

The patch that I am attaching was exported by a simple diff on config.py
from 1.3.1 to 1.3.3. The patch requires no extra change on other files.

[Bug 408127] [NEW] [Karmic] In KMS mode cannot get EDID from external monitor

2009-08-02 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

I have a macbook2,1 with intel 945 graphic chipset and an external monitor
Samsung SyncMaster 174T.
In jaunty the monitor was detected perfectly with proper name and modes. In
karmic if the KMS is enabled it shows up as UNKNOWN monitor and the supported
modes have nothing to do with reality. The monitor is capable for 1280x1...@60
however with KMS enabled xrandr gives resolutions like 1360x...@84. At the same
time /var/log/messages is filled with messages like this:
[ 159.060650] i2c-adapter i2c-3: unable to read EDID block.
[ 159.060653] i915 :00:02.0: DVI-D-1: no EDID data
When the KMS is disabled xrandr is properly detecting monitor name and modes.

I am also attaching verbose xrandr output, with KMS enabled and without.

Re: [Bug 176589] Re: compiz randomly freezes X

2008-04-20 Thread SqUe
I think compiz is multi-threaded... so you have to take backtrace from all
threads. info stack works for current selected thread only.

With info stack you can enumerate all the running threads of the
application that you debug.
if you execute inside gdb info stack you ll something like this in case
that it has 4 threads running.:
(gdb) info thread
  4 Thread 0xb6c65b90 (LWP 12520) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
  3 Thread 0xb7466b90 (LWP 12519) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
  2 Thread 0xb7c67b90 (LWP 12518) 0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
* 1 Thread 0xb7c68940 (LWP 12510)  0xb7f05410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
The * shows which is the active. info stack will show the stack trace only
from the active thread.

By executing thread no you make another thread active.
e.g. thread 3 will make active the 3rd thread from the list you saw.
Running again info stack you ll get the stacktrace from thread 3 now.

Finally if you manage to lock it up again, check if it has multiple threads
running and if they are, take stack trace from all of them.

This may be the reason you get different stack traces, you traces from
different threads, although the second seems corruptes as it starts from
0x.

I am not a compiz expert, but I may have a change to be right. hope to
helped

Corrected paragraph

With info thread you can enumerate all the running threads of the

if you execute inside gdb info thread you ll something like this in case

not with info stack that I wrote in previous post.

And to summarize it.
info thread Shows all the running threads
thread [no] Switchs to a desired thread. (Makes active the one you want)

[Bug 206669] [NEW] [Hardy]Thessaloniki city has wrong time zone

2008-03-25 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

At the new time-applet under clock of gnome, if I add thessaloniki as
a location, it sets the timezone to Europe/Skopje which is not
correct!

For those who don't know where is thessaloniki here is the link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thessaloniki. Thessaloniki is a greek city
and has the same timezone as all the cities in greece, while
Europe/Skopje is not the same...

The misunderstanding may come from the makedonia under the name of
Thessaloniki in the list of locations. Macedonia is called a north
subregion of greece which includes Thessaloniki and has nothing to do
with the country called former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia with
capital city Skopje.

[Bug 151572] Re: HP photosmart R717 camera not mounted when plugged

2008-01-04 Thread SqUe
Sry for messing up the bug :P I found my problem!

I had installed Gutsy through a usb-stick (I had created a bootable usb-stick
from a gutsy_desktop iso because my dvd-rom is broken)
and it at installation it thought that /dev/sdb1 is the cdrom so there was a
line in /etc/fstab:
/dev/sdb1 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec 0 0

Commenting this out solves the problem for me.

Really sorry :( , but hey thanks too that ubuntu works once more as
intended ;)

[Bug 137630] Re: [GUTSY] SiS 190 onboard NIC problems

2007-11-16 Thread SqUe
I think you should try different values of MTU around and below 1500,
also open an Ethereal (wireshark? can't remember its new name) and try
to check what is going on with your packets. As this is a computer lab
and you probably must fix it, (I don't know if this NIC is so badly
designed or is so badly supported by linux drivers), in case you don't
manage to fix it you could always buy some cheap network cards around
8-12 euros each, which have a common chip and well supported.

[Bug 137630] [GUTSY] SiS 190 onboard NIC problems

2007-09-05 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 7.10 Tribe 5.
M/B: Asrock 939S56-M
OnBoard chipset: SiS 756

The first time I tried to install it on the system, the installation process
freezed at the point Scanning for mirror..., after many retries, i came of
killing by hand all wget process so that installation finishes.
Booting at the fresh installed system, had no difference, as the firefox
couldn't visit all sites and update manager didn't work. Although network was
connected, i had ip and I could ping the world!

Searching on google I came up a solution of lowering MTU to 1492, and
did the trick!.

[Bug 119318] Re: power manager insists batter is broken

2007-08-24 Thread SqUe
At the live CD at least of gutsy tribe 5, I am experiencing the same.
But Feisty also reported that my battery's capacity was ~= 50% of
initial desing capacity from the very first time I bought this laptop (6
months ago).

my cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info
present: yes
design capacity: 6000 mAh
last full capacity: 3712 mAh
battery technology: rechargeable
design voltage: 14800 mV
design capacity warning: 192 mAh
design capacity low: 116 mAh
capacity granularity 1: 10 mAh
capacity granularity 2: 25 mAh
model number:Primary
serial number:
battery type:LION
OEM info:Hewlett-Packard

which if i remember correctly (I had checked it a couple of months ago), my
battery is not a 6000mAh but around 3000mAh (I read it on the battery).
I don't know where is the bug exactly, but I think its not gnome's...

[Bug 134639] [Gutsy] keyboard sound shortcuts on ICH7 based laptop not working properly

2007-08-24 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

Laptop:
 Hewlet-Packard dv6178ea

Audio:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)

On Gutsy Tribe 5 (live cd or pure installation) the keyboard shortcuts by
default change a channel called headphones not the speakers channel.
This affects volume up/down and mute keyboard shortcuts. Specifically the
volume keys of this laptop are illuminated with blue light. Normally if you
pressed mute, the color of this key backlight changed from blue to orange. This
also is not working on gutsy. Generally the driver seems to work, but all the
convenient shortcuts are now completely useless .

Remarks: On Feisty the audio worked perfectly, also the shortcuts, even
the backlight!
