[Bug 290204] Re: Annoying beep on shutdown using System - Shut down...

2009-07-13 Thread Srik
I've noticed that often there are two or even three beeps on shut down
(so not always one). It's seems that this behaviour becomes more
probable using the pc for long time (hours instead of minutes...)

2009-05-17 Thread Srik
I can confirm the crashes after few minutes playing nexuiz.

I've tried to have a backtrace but all the system hangs and no key
combination is functional (ctrl + alt + backspace (i've reactivated it),
ctrl + alt + fx, etc).

My question is and now, what could we do? (like post bug somewhere else,

[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change

2008-05-15 Thread Srik
I've just upgraded to hardy (8.04) and the default line still doesn't give
correct vbr mp3s but the suggested line above still resolves the problem,
even changing vbr-max-bitrate to 256 (from 192) gives to me VBR mp3s between
160-256 kbps (checked with nautilus, amarok, easy tag)!

I continue to think that this line should be the default in soundjucer!!

The actual default gstreamer line doesn't give correct vbr mp3s or at
least correct tags of these mp3!!

Soundjuicer is the default application for cd-ripping and a lot of
people need to rip in mp3 (because of their portable mp3s readers) so it
has to do its job correctly!

[Bug 230457] [NEW] [Hardy] [gdm ?] Apparently random crashes with completly hang of the machine mostly on startup with errors in loading gdm-applets

2008-05-14 Thread Srik
Public bug reported:

I'm experiencing a lot of apparently random crashes (i mean 2-3 times a
day) with a complete hanging of the machine. There 3 type of crash:

- During the normal usage of the machine, like browsing, listening music, just
opening the application menu and things like that, everythinh hangs exept for
the mouse. Cliking on the shut down button is futile.
Trying to enter in a console with CTRL+ALT+F1-6 is futile too because it hangs
at login. After the insertion of the password sometimes nothing happens and
other times it gave a lot of messages and then it hangs definitly. Only fisical
reboot it's possible

- At boot, after login (1 time it crashed at login too), it appears an error
windows that says that the name of an applet of gnome (last time is has been
volume control for example) closed for some problem. You have to chose if you
want to reload the applet or continue without reloading it.
The 2 choises give tha same result. Everything hangs as above.

- Sometimes (maybe 40-50% ot the times) after a crash like the two above, and
so, after a physical reboot, the machine hangs at startup with a message like
Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init (i boot in recovery mode
after crashes so i can read all these messages). So i'm obliged to reset my
machine newly and sometime 3-4 resets are needed to start the machine without
this message!
Finally, i don't know if it's important, after these crashes, are founded
errors on partition like orphan inode and journal is recouvered (sometime a
manual fsck is needed to fix the filesystem)

Trying to read the kern.log i've found same errors ( i suppose they are the
same text lines i see when the machine crashes..). I attach the whole kern.log;
the following are some example of the errors inside the kern.log:
trashapplet[6057]: segfault at d84e9194 eip b713f6c4 esp bfdd6420 error 7
gdm[5708]: segfault at 7e8295e4 eip 0806f004 esp bf94f0fc error 6
kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.24/mm/rmap.c:631!
BUG: scheduling while atomic: gdm/5708/0x0001
gnome-power-man[6031]: segfault at b72e820e eip b73306f6 esp bfbc1490 error 7

gvfsd-trash[6069]: segfault at be16ccab eip b7e43399 esp bfc9a4e0 error 4
and many others...

Notice:
on my machine memtest is ok, temperatures of cpu and hds are ok, there are no
physical problem on the disk(s) (no badblocks).

[Bug 224830] [NEW] [Xubuntu 8.04] Problem with mounting partition, external usb drives and permissions

2008-04-30 Thread Srik
Public bug reported:

I'm using an xubuntu 8.04 just installed.
I don't know if it's a wrong setting in user permission (or something similar)
that generates all these problems or if they are different bugs (surely there's
a problem with PolicyKit configuration!). However these are the problems:

- Xubuntu doesn't put in the places menu the link to the other partion
(it's a fat32 part. windows inside).

- Using fdisk -l and the mount command it's possible to mount it.

- So i tried gparted and it gave this error:
Errore nel montaggio di Disco 22G.. (my translation: error in mounting
name of the disk)
   org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed auth_admin_keep_always -- (action,
result).

- Following the instructions that are in the following link
http://hal.freedesktop.org/docs/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf.5.html ,i added
these lines to my /etc/PolicyKit/policyKit.conf:

match action=org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed
  match user=root
return result=yes/
  /match
  match user=myuser
return result=yes/
  /match
/match

- Then restarting gparted the error disappeared and it automatically
mounted the fat 32 partition (with the opening of the thunar window) but
it continues to not appear in the Places menu. (the partition has been
mounted in /media/disk )

- Then i tried to put and usb pen and nothing happened. It was
impossible to mount it with gparted (the option wasn't active) and there
was nothing (related to the usb pen) in the /media/ or /mnt/ folders.

- So i checked privileges of my current user following this path in the
menu applications - system - users settings (in italian is groups
and users). The auto mount for the usb external drives was active for
the current user (the user i use to log-in at the start-up) but not for
the root user (nothing was active!). So i tried to activate the auto-
mount for the root user, then i plugged my usb-pen and it has been
mounted with the appearing of an icon on the desktop. (i want to note
that i'm not logged as root)

- Using the mount devices element that i added to the lower bar:
it doesn't give the option to mount the fat 32 partition because it isn't in
the list but it appears (in the list) when i mount it manually with the mount
command. So when i click on it in the list to unmount it, it appears an error
windows with this messagge: An error occurred. The device should not be
removed! .In the other hand, when the partition has been mounted by gparted
automatically, the mount devices element says The device /media/disk should
be removable safely now.; but it has been just unmounted (it's not a removable
media, it's just a partition). However it unmount it correctly.

2008-03-08 Thread Srik
Public bug reported:

Trying to search something (i tried video) the software hangs.
Clicking on upper left to close the windows it says that the application
doesn't give answers.

In the system monitor you can notice an high cpu usage (60-80%) and a
continuosly increased ram usage.

Starting the program in the terminal it gives this message:

Second try! Maybe there is something more...

The problem (?) is that the crash appears closing the program but when i
use gdm it remains in memory like a zombie (i can see it like this in
the system monitor) and the automatic bug report doesn't start. I tried
to kill it via the system monitor or giving the command sudo kill
PID but it still remains there until i close the gdm.

[Bug 196692] Re: gvfsd-cdda crashed with SIGSEGV in cdio_cddap_close_no_free_cdio()

2008-03-05 Thread Srik
Yesterday i've newly updated my system and something changed. Now, when
i put a cd-audio into the cd-reader, soundjuicer doesn't start
automatically. So i've to click on audio cd in the resources menu.
After a long time (minutes), with a lot of reading tries by my cd-reader
as i can hear, it appears the small window with

Impossible to mount audio Disk
The device /dev/scd0 doesn't contain audio file(s)

I click on the Ok button and then nothing else happens (so no crash
report!).

[Bug 196692] Re: gvfsd-cdda crashed with SIGSEGV in cdio_cddap_close_no_free_cdio()

2008-03-02 Thread Srik
I've obtained requested information, they are in the attachment.

The bug reappeared followind this sequence:

-Inserted an audio cd in my cd reader that is mounted on the virtual machine
too
-Automatically started soundjuicer
-Few moment after appeared a small error window then a big one

On the small one is written:
Impossible to mount audio Disk
The device /dev/scd0 doesn't contain audio file(s)

The bigger one is the error segnalation for launchpad.

At the end i want to notice that in sound juicer the names of the audio
tracks appeared and that i can start the audio extraction but that it's
really really slow (i think never ending.. sometimes it tries to guess
the end time but it gives value like 600' for only one track!. Listening
to my cd-dvd reader i can hear a continous start and stop of the read
process) (obviouvsly these things don't happen on the host machine).

[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change

2008-02-25 Thread Srik
Having only one cd-dvd reader on my pc, i don't think i could test the
extraction and encoding of cd audio track in mp3 while using the live
cd! May i use a virtual machine? Is there no one that could test this
bug?

2008-02-25 Thread Srik
* I tried to add the vbr=(0,2,3,4) parameter and the here are the
results:

- vbr=0
I obtain the same file with CBR 128 kbps (vbr=0 stands for no vbr!)

- vbr=2
I obtain a 32 kbps CBR file with incorrect total lenght (7:28 instead of
1:42) (vbr=2 stands for use the old algorithm)

- vbr=3
I obtain a 112 kbps CBR file with incorrect total lenght (1:51 instead of
1:42) (vbr=3 stands for use a medium bitrate)

- vbr=4
I obtain a 32 kbps CBR file with incorrect total lenght (7:28 instead of
1:42) (vbr=4 stands for use the new algorithm)

[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2007-10-20 Thread Srik
Yesterday i upgraded to gutsy. On the first reboot i had no problem!!
This morning i had the HAL error!!

When i click on the off button, nothing happens... The network applet
say that there is no network connection but it's not true... Other disks
are not mounted...

I followed all the suggestions in this page with no results:

- CONCURRENCY in /etc/init.d/rc was just set to none...

- renamed S12hal to S13hal and S13gdm to S14gdm in /etc/rc2.d (i tried
renaming them even in /etc/rc(3,4,5).d)

- sudo update-rc.d -f dbus remove and then sudo update-rc.d dbus
multiuser 12 20 as suggested by Alex Muntada
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/~alex.muntada)

I have a core 2 duo machine.

 ps -p $( /var/run/dbus/pid) give --
PID TTY TIME CMD
 4969 ?00:00:00 dbus-daemon

pidof hald and then ls -l /etc/rc2.d/*dbus* give --
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2007-10-20 11:37 /etc/rc2.d/S12dbus - ../init.d/dbus

These are the current priorities of dbus, hal and dhcdbd:

2007-05-29 Thread Srik
Ok... Sorry for the mistake, but the problem is that when i reproduce
the crash then i'm not able to return to the gdb window!!

Everything is blocked but the combination ctrl-alt-del!

How to have a backtrace?

(maybe there is a key combination usefull like alt-tab that i don't
know...)

P.S.
The package nexuiz-dbgsym is correctly installed but i continue to have a lot
of (no debugging symbols found)

[Bug 117206] DVB 'save stream' option doesn't do anything

2007-05-27 Thread Srik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kaffeine

My dvb card is an usb pen (Cinergy hybrid T USB XS).

When i click to save the video nothing happens (even in the terminal).

To install the dvb pen i followed this guide:
http://divilinux.wordpress.com/2007/03/23/em2880-dvb-con-kernel-
superiore-2620/ (in italian but passages are that).

DVB sintonization works!

I use ubuntu 7.04 (kernel 2.6.20-15-generic) with Kaffeine 0.8.3.

(Maybe it's important: I can't hear audio in analog sintonization with
programs like TvTime Television viewer)
