[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change
I've just upgraded to hardy (8.04) and the default line still doesn't give correct vbr mp3s but the suggested line above still resolves the problem, even changing vbr-max-bitrate to 256 (from 192) gives to me VBR mp3s between 160-256 kbps (checked with nautilus, amarok, easy tag)! I continue to think that this line should be the default in soundjucer!! The actual default gstreamer line doesn't give correct vbr mp3s or at least correct tags of these mp3!! Soundjuicer is the default application for cd-ripping and a lot of people need to rip in mp3 (because of their portable mp3s readers) so it has to do its job correctly! -- Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 230457] [NEW] [Hardy] [gdm ?] Apparently random crashes with completly hang of the machine mostly on startup with errors in loading gdm-applets
Public bug reported: I'm experiencing a lot of apparently random crashes (i mean 2-3 times a day) with a complete hanging of the machine. There 3 type of crash: - During the normal usage of the machine, like browsing, listening music, just opening the application menu and things like that, everythinh hangs exept for the mouse. Cliking on the shut down button is futile. Trying to enter in a console with CTRL+ALT+F1-6 is futile too because it hangs at login. After the insertion of the password sometimes nothing happens and other times it gave a lot of messages and then it hangs definitly. Only fisical reboot it's possible - At boot, after login (1 time it crashed at login too), it appears an error windows that says that the name of an applet of gnome (last time is has been volume control for example) closed for some problem. You have to chose if you want to reload the applet or continue without reloading it. The 2 choises give tha same result. Everything hangs as above. - Sometimes (maybe 40-50% ot the times) after a crash like the two above, and so, after a physical reboot, the machine hangs at startup with a message like Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init (i boot in recovery mode after crashes so i can read all these messages). So i'm obliged to reset my machine newly and sometime 3-4 resets are needed to start the machine without this message! Finally, i don't know if it's important, after these crashes, are founded errors on partition like orphan inode and journal is recouvered (sometime a manual fsck is needed to fix the filesystem) Trying to read the kern.log i've found same errors ( i suppose they are the same text lines i see when the machine crashes..). I attach the whole kern.log; the following are some example of the errors inside the kern.log: trashapplet[6057]: segfault at d84e9194 eip b713f6c4 esp bfdd6420 error 7 gdm[5708]: segfault at 7e8295e4 eip 0806f004 esp bf94f0fc error 6 kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.24/mm/rmap.c:631! [Bug 224830] [NEW] [Xubuntu 8.04] Problem with mounting partition, external usb drives and permissions
Public bug reported: I'm using an xubuntu 8.04 just installed. I don't know if it's a wrong setting in user permission (or something similar) that generates all these problems or if they are different bugs (surely there's a problem with PolicyKit configuration!). However these are the problems: - Xubuntu doesn't put in the places menu the link to the other partion (it's a fat32 part. windows inside). - Using fdisk -l and the mount command it's possible to mount it. - So i tried gparted and it gave this error: Errore nel montaggio di Disco 22G.. (my translation: error in mounting name of the disk) org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed auth_admin_keep_always -- (action, result). - Following the instructions that are in the following link http://hal.freedesktop.org/docs/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf.5.html ,i added these lines to my /etc/PolicyKit/policyKit.conf: match action=org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed match user=root return result=yes/ /match match user=myuser return result=yes/ /match /match - Then restarting gparted the error disappeared and it automatically mounted the fat 32 partition (with the opening of the thunar window) but it continues to not appear in the Places menu. (the partition has been mounted in /media/disk ) - Then i tried to put and usb pen and nothing happened. It was impossible to mount it with gparted (the option wasn't active) and there was nothing (related to the usb pen) in the /media/ or /mnt/ folders. - So i checked privileges of my current user following this path in the menu applications - system - users settings (in italian is groups and users). The auto mount for the usb external drives was active for the current user (the user i use to log-in at the start-up) but not for the root user (nothing was active!). So i tried to activate the auto- mount for the root user, then i plugged my usb-pen and it has been mounted with the appearing of an icon on the desktop. (i want to note that i'm not logged as root) - Using the mount devices element that i added to the lower bar: it doesn't give the option to mount the fat 32 partition because it isn't in the list but it appears (in the list) when i mount it manually with the mount command. So when i click on it in the list to unmount it, it appears an error windows with this messagge: An error occurred. The device should not be removed! .In the other hand, when the partition has been mounted by gparted automatically, the mount devices element says The device /media/disk should be removable safely now.; but it has been just unmounted (it's not a removable media, it's just a partition). However it unmount it correctly. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Xubuntu 8.04] Problem with mounting partition, external usb drives and permissions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224830 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've obtained requested information, they are in the attachment. The bug reappeared followind this sequence: -Inserted an audio cd in my cd reader that is mounted on the virtual machine too -Automatically started soundjuicer -Few moment after appeared a small error window then a big one On the small one is written: Impossible to mount audio Disk The device /dev/scd0 doesn't contain audio file(s) The bigger one is the error segnalation for launchpad. At the end i want to notice that in sound juicer the names of the audio tracks appeared and that i can start the audio extraction but that it's really really slow (i think never ending.. sometimes it tries to guess the end time but it gives value like 600' for only one track!. Listening to my cd-dvd reader i can hear a continous start and stop of the read process) (obviouvsly these things don't happen on the host machine). ** Attachment added: lshal http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12350251/lshal -- gvfsd-cdda crashed with SIGSEGV in cdio_cddap_close_no_free_cdio() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196692 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
