[Bug 1428301] [NEW] Icon for available updates missing in KDE system tray
Public bug reported: Hi, when muon-discover is not installed on the system (I uninstalled it and installed the normal Muon package manager instead), the icon, which is normally shown in the KDE system tray when updates are available, is missing. Instead of the missing icon, the icon-missing thingie is shown (see attached pictures). I have the standard oxygen icon theme in use, so it is no issue of some weired theme used or something like that. If I re-install muon-discover, the missing icon is there as it should be. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS Release:14.04 Running KDE 4.14.2 The reason seems to be, that the updates available icon is pulled from muon-discover and is not available in the files for muon-updater. muon-discover un-installed: ~$ dpkg -L muon /. /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/muon /usr/share /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1 /usr/share/man/man1/muon.1.gz /usr/share/icons /usr/share/icons/hicolor /usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/64x64/apps/muon.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/muon.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/muon.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/muon.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/muon.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/muon.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128 /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/muon.png /usr/share/locale /usr/share/locale/sl /usr/share/locale/sl/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/sl/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/tr /usr/share/locale/tr/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/tr/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/cs /usr/share/locale/cs/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/cs/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/is /usr/share/locale/is/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/is/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/mai /usr/share/locale/mai/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/mai/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/fi /usr/share/locale/fi/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/fi/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/es /usr/share/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ru /usr/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/gl /usr/share/locale/gl/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/gl/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/sk /usr/share/locale/sk/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/sk/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/bs /usr/share/locale/bs/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/bs/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/it /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/eo /usr/share/locale/eo/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/eo/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/nds /usr/share/locale/nds/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/nds/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/kk /usr/share/locale/kk/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/kk/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ca@valencia /usr/share/locale/ca@valencia/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ca@valencia/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/da /usr/share/locale/da/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/da/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/en_GB /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/zh_TW /usr/share/locale/zh_TW/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/zh_TW/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ga /usr/share/locale/ga/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ga/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ro /usr/share/locale/ro/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ro/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ko /usr/share/locale/ko/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ko/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/pt_BR /usr/share/locale/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ja /usr/share/locale/ja/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ja/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/vi /usr/share/locale/vi/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/vi/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/pt /usr/share/locale/pt/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/pt/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/hu /usr/share/locale/hu/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/hu/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/et /usr/share/locale/et/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/et/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/sr@ijekavian /usr/share/locale/sr@ijekavian/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/sr@ijekavian/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/sr /usr/share/locale/sr/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/sr/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/sr@ijekavianlatin /usr/share/locale/sr@ijekavianlatin/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/sr@ijekavianlatin/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/ca /usr/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES /usr/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES/muon.mo /usr/share/locale/zh_CN

unfortunatetly I can't do that. The affected machine is a production machine. It is now running fine since the fglrx module is installed. Installing the new Kernel means a risk of breaking it for other reasons and it means uninstalling the fglrx module for testing (otherwise it wouldn't make sense, right?) = risk to break it again for the same reason. It was a lot of work, bringing the machine into a stable state. I don't want to risk this to be worthless. [Bug 1309578] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 suddenly reboots when booting from Live USB AMD A8 6600k
this Bug also affects a customers machine, equipped with a MSI A78M-E45 mainboard with an AMD A4-4000 APU. This Bug is not in Ubuntu Precise with the 3.2 Kernel. So I first installed Ubuntu 12.04, installed the fglrx-driver via Jockey and then upgraded to Trusty. Up to now, the system runs without random reboot. Conclusion: 1. the bug occurs in Kernel 3.13 and the free radeon driver 2. the bug does obviously not occur in Kernel 3.13 if fglrx is installed 3. the bug does not occur in Kernel 3.2 with the free radeon driver 4. the bug does not occur in Kernel 3.2 with fglrx installed Have you talked to MSI and AMD about this issue? Is there any activity going on regarding this ridiculous Bug? Will it ever be fixed or will it survive a whole LTS-cycle and maybe another one (because in Kernel 3.16 it reportedly also occurs)? Is there anything, we as users can provide to help you fixing this bug? Logfiles? [Bug 1372169] [NEW] random reboot with MSI A78M-E45
Public bug reported: when using the default Radeon-driver on this machine, random reboots occure every time. Every time means also during installation of the system and after install too. This problem was fixed at this machine with the following workaround: 1. install of Xubuntu 12.04.4 with the default Kernel 3.2 2. install of the current fglrx-updates package 3. upgrade to Xubuntu 14.04 The system now is using the fglrx-updates module and seems to be stable. No random reboots after 1 day of testing. In the previous mentioned Xubuntu 12.04.4 system, these random reboots never occured, also when the default radeon driver package was used. The conclusion for me is: there must be some MSI-hardware related issue which was not critical for the old 3.2 Kernel as well as the old xorg and radeon driver which was used in 12.04.4. [Bug 1372169] Re: random reboot with MSI A78M-E45
after having thought about this a little bit, I would like to write down as much information as I can. I wrote randomly because it really is randomly. This means, the user can not determine a reason for these reboots. There is no obvious connection between something the user does and the occurence of these nasty reboots. This means, that the system could be running for 10 minutes (this was the maximum, I managed) or just a few seconds. Sometimes even at Bootup the system started over. In my maximum uptime of 10 minutes, I tried to install the fglrx-updates package via this additional drivers menu. It downloaded the package and installed - and even during the install of this package, when the system was busy doing something (I was moving the mouse) it rebooted, leaving a broken system, because fglrx was not installed completely. These reboots also happen during install of the system (no previous operating system present). Mostly it booted up to the menu, where you can choose to try Ubuntu first or install directly. It showed this menu and in the next moment, it shut down. In Bugreport no. 1309578 somebody mentioned in the comments, that moving the mouse constantly does the trick to keep the system running until fglrx is installed. I also tried this, but I don't think that this really makes a difference because the system was also shutting down some times, even as I moved the mouse constantly. I installed the system via Ubuntu 12.04.4 because I did not realise that some bootoption (radeon.dpm=0) also would do it. But I noticed that 12.04.4 started the Live environment much faster than 14.04. Also after install, the system booted much faster and as I mentioned already, it did not have the reboot-issue with the radeon driver. At least I did not experience it. Now, 14.04.1 is running flawless with fglrx-updates installed. I am not really sure, whether this report is helpful because all the data is collected with fglrx-updates installed. But using the radeon driver really makes the system unuseable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1372169 Title: random reboot with MSI A78M-E45 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1372169/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 472668] Re: bad diction in english original makes translation difficult or impossible
Hi, thanks for your work in fixing/ updating the Kubuntu Docs. At first I am very thankful that you have deleted these awful repeatings of hints how to open applications. Unfortunatly there are still (new!) texts which are dicted in an awful way. They even do not make sense in english! Example: »acronymKDE/acronym is similar to phraseGNOME/phrase in many ways, but there are distinct differences which distinguish acronymKDE/acronym as a desktop environment. « two times differences...the first one is a »distinct difference« which »distinguishes«... to distinguish something is the nature of a difference ;-) Anyway, to get a good translation to some degree (it is then still far far away from perfect) I'll have to cut out words and the sense would be for sure different to the sense which was intended by the original Author. If we do it like this, we do not need to translate. Then every language team can create their own texts. Which makes no sense either. praising something as good, distinct and so on is generally okay. But the result should be that the text still makes sense. With this, the translation of Kubuntu Docs is AGAIN very difficult, I have to cut out lots of words - the sense is different in german -- resulting in the same as before. There are of course still lots of more examples for bad dictions in the (new) Kubuntu Docs. It is still very difficult to translate Kubuntu Docs and the results are not professional. Please review your texts and change your mind regarding formulation style. [Bug 472668] [NEW] bad diction in english original makes translation difficult or impossible
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-docs The english texts in Kubuntu-docs have sometimes really bad diction which makes translation into german (and I am sure into any other language) nearly impossible. Example: »You may also wish to increase the number of programs available to install through your package managers. Not all the programs that exist for Kubuntu are installed by default.« which is in the middle of nowhere in between a description of package managers. What does it mean? Does it mean that the user can increase the number of installable packages by using a package manager? Or does it mean that a user can increase the number of available packages if he wants? Or does it maybe mean something else I am not aware of? The diction itself requires heavy changes on the context, to get a satisfying result in german. Additional the diction is not clear cut (what does it mean?). So the result is awful in german. This is just a single and simple example of one english text which is dicted in a bad way. Surely there are many more texts which are dicted worse than that. So please guys, be a bit thoughtful about the translators and formulate the texts a bit nicer in more commonly used words, avoid involved periods (which is a big problem too in Kubuntu-Docs) and follow the guidelines on help-texts. Another problem is the always repeated description to the user how to start/open a certain application. Example: »Software Management is launched through the Kickoff Application Launcher at menuchoiceguimenuKickoff Application Launcher/guimenuguisubmenuApplications/guisubmenuguisubmenuSystem/guisubmenuguimenuitemSoftware Management (KPackageKit)/guimenuitem/menuchoice.« in the above text you see the description (between menuchoice and /menuchoice). This is the first description in the help-text. In the following strings which describe tasks, involving the package manager, there is always repeatedly described how to open the package Manager. This is not necessary as for example the Ubuntu-docs show. It is also annoying to read for the user. And it is annoying and frustrating for the translator. So please do not repeat the steps for opening/ starting applications resp. files over and over. [Bug 288084] Re: [Bug 71120] Re: Installation of 6.10 requested I file a bug report.
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 257040 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257040 Hello, today I received 3 mails from you regarding some Bugs (No. 288084, 223054, 71120) but I have not reported them nor have I subscribed to them in any form. I have an Launchpad-account because I am member of the german Translators group. Thats it. Maybe you someone else and have mixed the names and addresses? So I will delete these mails and I also will not do any actions regarding these Bugs. Because I do not have any knowledge about writing software or anything like that. best regards Steffen Am Donnerstag, den 23.10.2008, 13:44 + schrieb Jean-Baptiste Lallement: *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 257040 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257040 I'm marking this report as duplicate of bug 257040 because it's already triaged. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 257040 package emifreq-applet 0.18-3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2 -- i was installing adobe flash player 10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
