[Bug 2057687] Re: systemctl hibernate error: "Call to Hibernate failed: Invalid argument"

2024-05-03 Thread Steven Walter
The issue seems to be that /sys/power/resume contains 0:0, rather than
the major:minor of the hibernate device. If I manually populate
/sys/power/resume, then I can "systemctl hibernate" successfully and
successfully resume.

[Bug 1672064] Re: Blank screen after switching to gdm display manager

2017-03-12 Thread Steven Walter
I did not. Installing that package does allow gdm to start up
correctly. Should the gdm package depend on ubuntu-gnome-default-
settings, then, since it flat doesn't work without it?

[Bug 1672064] [NEW] Blank screen after switching to gdm display manager

2017-03-11 Thread Steven Walter
Public bug reported:

gdm fails to start due to Ubuntu customizations. Ubuntu has modified
the behavior of gnome-session such that ubuntu.session is the default.
When gdm launches gnome-session to start the greeter, this results in
gnome-session trying to launch unity instead of gnome-shell.

One workaround that I have proven works is to delete /usr/share/gnome-
sessions/sessions/ubuntu.session with a symlink to gnome.session. This
allows gdm to start up correctly and I can then login to a gnome-shell
session.

Another possible workaround would be to patch gdm to launch "gnome-
session --session=gnome", similarly to how
/usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop was patched.

[Bug 677432] Re: AppArmor prevents Cups to print to a serial printer connected through an usb adapter

This bug has been open over six months. Is there some problem with the
proposed fix? I can attest that it works for me, unfortunately I spent
the better part of a day independently coming to the same answer.
There's no telling how many users have run into this issue and simply
thrown up their hands...

[Bug 277372] Re: lenovo x200 incorrect resolution gnome prop. crash SIGSEGV in strcmp()

This also happens to me on a Dell Lattitude D630. Ocassionally when I
plug in an external monitor (1600x1200) and activate it in gnome-

the external monitor covered by the LCD (1440x900). Sometimes the
unreachable area has desktop in it, sometimes only garbage. If I try to
disable the external monitor afterwards, that is when gnome-display-

2008-11-01 Thread Steven Walter
I'm seeing a similar problem when I attached my Sprint 3G phone by USB.
The crash doesn't occur until I try to connect to the internet through
the phone. The reason the applet doesn't come back is that it is the
backend (NetworkManager) not nm-applet that crashes. Here's the
backtrace. I have the full core-dump if that would be useful.

[Bug 209052] [NEW] wireless broken after suspend to disk

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic

On a fresh boot, my broadcom 4311 wireless works perfectly (using the

dmesg says microcode not responding. If I remove the b43 driver and

[Bug 156581] Re: usbnet: Zaurus C860 doesn't connect any more

2007-11-30 Thread Steven Walter
To fix it for yourself, you can try the following:

$ apt-get source linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic (or whichever kernel package
you are using)
$ vi debian/config/i386/config.generic
Change # CONFIG_USB_NET_ZAURUS is not set to CONFIG_USB_NET_ZAURUS=y (this
must be exact!)
$ make drivers/net/usb/zaurus.ko
$ sudo insmod drivers/net/usb/zaurus.ko

[Bug 96669] Re: [feisty] deleting a song from the ipod only updates the database

2007-03-28 Thread Steven Walter
The current patch uses the trash. When you delete a track, it attempts
to move it to the trash, creating a trash folder if one does not exist.

I did notice that the Trash icon did not appear full immediately. I
have before noticed that songs deleted by rhythmbox appeared in the
Trash can, so it may merely be a matter of delay

I noticed that some of the songs I removed from my iPod ended up in the
Trash Can, so their space was not freed until I emptied the trash bin.
Also, you said a song. Is this something that happened only once, or

Do other programs (banshee, gtkpod) delete the songs correctly off your
iPod?

such.

gtkpod could delete it at all!

That is, gtkpod could not delete it at all? If that is the case, I
would like you to try to delete the file from your iPod manually.
Warning: this could cause your iPod to become confused and require
formatting, so proceed at your own risk. Using both Nautilus and the

the track you're trying to remove.

ubuntu-restricted-extras depends on gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-

2007-03-25 Thread Steven Walter
I'm seeing this same problem as well. Looking at the debug output, the
encoder does not seem to even be considering the lame element as a
possibility. There are two possible reasons for this; either the
profile's pipeline does not launch (I've verified that it does on my
system with gst-launch) or the code can't find the encoder element in
the pipeline. I'm investigating further to see if I can determine which
of the two tests is failing.

[Bug 86920] Re: 0.9.8 iPod writing not working in Feisty

2007-03-25 Thread Steven Walter
I've been able to resolve this issue on my system. The problem for me
was a gconf one. In /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/profiles, I had an
entry for mp3. However, in /s/g/10/a/global, there is a profile_list
key, and it did not have mp3 listed. Simply adding mp3 to this list was
sufficient to get track transfers onto my iPod to work again.

Look at the pipeline_description for mp3 in gconf. When you have it,
try running the command:

$ gst-launch-0.10 fakesrc ! $DESCRIPTION ! fakesink

Does the above command fail with an error, or simply sit until you
Ctrl+C? For me, it starts up fine and runs until I type ctrl+c. For
the record, my pipeline_description is as follows:

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-
quality=6 ! id3v2mux

Interesting. I would not think so, given that your media files are

[Bug 86920] Re: 0.9.8 iPod writing not working in Feisty

2007-03-25 Thread Steven Walter
Yes, everything is cool for me, now. I do not keep my music in MP3
format, however. My music is all in Ogg/Vorbis, so I do require lame to
transfer files to the iPod.

[Bug 86920] Re: 0.9.8 iPod writing not working in Feisty

2007-03-25 Thread Steven Walter
Upon examining the code, rhythmbox does in fact require that an encoder
be available for MP3, even if the track to be transferred is already an
MP3.

[Bug 76077] Re: Permissions on /dev/usblp* don't agree with cupsys

2007-01-13 Thread Steven Walter
I just ran into this problem as well. My USB printer wouldn't work, I
noticed permission denied in the logs.

I found something interesting in /etc/udev/rules.d/40-permissions.rules.
Line 12 reads:

SUBSYSTEMS==usb,  GROUP=plugdev

Obviously, this puts all USB devices in the plugdev group. Further down
on line 37, though ,we see:

SUBSYSTEM==usb, KERNEL==lp[0-9]*,   GROUP=lp

The intention, obviously, is that USB printers be given the group lp
instead. However, this is not happening. Is there some sort of
incorrect assumption in the rules about the way they interact, or is
udev improperly applying the rules?

[Bug 76077] Re: Permissions on /dev/usblp* don't agree with cupsys

2007-01-13 Thread Steven Walter
I poked around at this some more, and found something interesting. If
the last_rule option is added to the rule on line 37, the device node
gets created with the correct group. This leads me to believe that some
other rule later in the chain is overwriting the GROUP, however I was
unable to find such a rule.

The attached patch causes the device node to be created with the correct
group.

that mean this bug can be closed?

including the latest berlios driver in it?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

The Zen Nano has no entry in the 10-usb-music-players.fdi file. An
entry for it exists, however, in the hal upstream git. Please apply the

[Bug 64096] Podcast download fails for FLOSS weekly

2006-10-04 Thread Steven Walter
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1) Add leoville.tv/podcasts/floss.xml as a podcast
2) Attempt to download any episode

I used wireshark to capture the network exchange, and rhythmbox is
getting a 404 because it mangles the URL. The download URL has a query
portion, apparently a redirect, looking something like
?http://website;. However, wireshark shows rhythmbox requesting
?http:/website.

I downloaded the vanilla source for rhythmbox and compiled it with
debugging info in an attempt to track down the problem, but the bug does
not occur in vanilla rhythmbox! I'm running edgy eft and rhythmbox
0.9.5-1ubuntu6

[Bug 57625] Re: at76c503 driver won't send in ad-hoc mode

2006-08-25 Thread Steven Walter
** Changed in: Ubuntu
Sourcepackagename: None = linux-source-2.6.15

** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. load at76c503-rfmd.ko
  2. iwconfig essid MYSSID (driver associates)
  3. attempt to ping (no ping)
  4. tcpdump -i wlan0 (shows incoming traffice)

  Expected:
  ping replies and outgoing packets.

This bug does not occur with at76c503a-0.13, which was recently
released. I did a diff of Ubuntu's version and 0.13, and found two
hunks, which applied, resolves the bug in Ubuntu's version. I'll try to
attach said patch, I don't see a button for that yet...
-
- Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'linux-
- image-2.6'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
