To fix it for yourself, you can try the following:

$ apt-get source linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic  (or whichever kernel package 
you are using)
$ vi debian/config/i386/config.generic
Change "# CONFIG_USB_NET_ZAURUS is not set" to "CONFIG_USB_NET_ZAURUS=y" (this 
must be exact!)
$ make drivers/net/usb/zaurus.ko
$ sudo insmod drivers/net/usb/zaurus.ko

At that point you ought to get a usb0 interface for your zaurus.
