Sorry, I posted the last comment by mistake. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gecko-mediaplayer Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 with all updates as of 1st December 2008. Packages: gecko-mediaplayer 0.7.0-1ubuntu2 gnome-mplayer 0.7.0ubuntu1 mplayer 2:1.0rc2-0ubuntu17 firefox: 3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1 If one happens to reset the X server system via the ctrl + alt + backspace command whilst one is listening to radio streams (which I presume are windows media format), the sound continues to play during the reset process and beyond completing log-in back into the system. The problem is that even when the Firefox session is restored after logging in, it attempts to open new streaming windows as opposed to the ones that were open in the previous session and it remains impossible to stop the already running streams without killing the 'mplayer' processes that are running in the System Monitor. I would expect that the streams would stop with resetting the server, or at least for the stream controls provided by gecko-mediaplayer/mplayer to be restored. To reproduce, install gecko-mediaplayer and open up any radio stream (maybe of any file format, but in this case Windows Media) and then reset the X server system via the ctrl + alt + backspace shortcut. ** Affects: gecko-mediaplayer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gecko-mediaplayer mplayer radio stream streaming streams ubuntu x-server ** Summary changed: - radio streams continue to play when x window is reset + radio streams continue to play when x server is reset ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gecko-mediaplayer Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 with all updates as of 1st December 2008. [Bug 274189] Re: jockey-kde crashed with dbus ServiceUnknown error in call_blocking (KDE PolicyKit agent not available)

[Bug 182288] Re: blank screen with kwin effects
Jonathan Thomas, I'm not so sure that the bug has been fixed with 4.1. When I ran KDE4 under Hardy Heron 8.04 and had desktop effects enabled, logging in was never a problem. However, I have found that with Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta and KDE 4.1.2, attempting a log-in after a session in which desktop effects have been enabled results in me being completely unable to do anything once having logged in. The only keyboard shortcuts to work are those that reset the X window system, and those that change between using KDM and the command line. In that situation, changing to the command line gives me nothing but a flashing cursor. I am unable to do anything. After reinstalling,I later found that when having windows effects enabled, sometimes Kubuntu would fail to even get passed the boot screen after the GRUB menu. In order to get passed the boot screen in that situation, I would need to boot into the recovery console then proceed to the 'resume' option. My system is a Dell Inspiron 1300, with a Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03) display controller. The drivers are all provided by Ubuntu. [Bug 269615] Re: dolphin trying to access volume(ext3) from places does not work
Further to my last post, I've found that under Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta 1 KDE 4.1.2, if you attempt to run: 'kdesudo dolphin' in Konsole, Dolphin opens up with the following error message at the bottom of the window: Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files. I am then unable to access my Home folder or any other partition via that instance of Dolphin. However, whilst leaving that instance running and then selecting File Manager from the Kmenu, I am able to see the Home folder plus all of the other partitions that I have (FAT32 and NTFS) in the new instance of Dolphin. Although inadvisable, should I run 'sudo dolphin' in Konsole, I am able to access all partitions first time. [Bug 269615] Re: dolphin trying to access volume(ext3) from places does not work
I am running the Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex Beta with KDE 4.1.2 and I have noticed this problem as well. I have three partitions on my hard disk; ext3 (Linux), FAT32 (shared) and NTFS (Windows.) I cannot access the FAT32 or NTFS partitions even though they have icons in the sidebar of Dolphin. Neither of the partitions appear under /media/. If I run 'sudo dolphin' in Konsole, then I'm able to access the partitions after entering a password prompt. I am still able to access the partitions even if I close down Dolphin, run 'sudo -k' then reopen it. However, once I restart the session and I am unable to access them. Interestingly enough, I am unable to access the memory card on my camera under any circumstances. The camera appears under Dolphin, however on clicking on the icon, I am presented with the following message at the bottom of the window: An error occurred while accessing 'Volume (vfat)', the system responded: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error in some cases useful info is found in syslog- try dmesg | tail or so Running the command in the Konsole gives the following message: dmesg | tail [ 497.829070] ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format. [Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing
So far, I've tried to reduce the sensitivity under the 'general' tab in the gsynaptics program, but this just becomes an inconvenience as the touch pad obviously becomes less responsive. Doing so did not stop the cursor from jumping and affecting my text input either. This is not the only problem though, as the touch pad issue also selects hyperlinks that I didn't intend to click sometimes. We're soon coming onto Intrepid Ibex and this would make the 4th distribution in a row where the touch pad on my Dell Inspiron 1300 has been an issue. If I were to disable the touchpad and then just use a mouse with the system, the problem doesn't occur. Why is this bug's status invalid under the 'Ubuntu Dell Project'? I've been redirected to this bug report as I submitted one earlier (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kaffeine/+bug/269359) with regard to this problem happening with .mov files. Further to my bug report, it seems that the problem is intermittent when it comes to .mov files. The same was true of another file that I downloaded, however upon clicking 'x' to close that particular instance of Kaffeine, the program would crash and give the backtrace error that I have provided as an attachment. [Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing
I think you can edit the xorg.conf in order to disable the touch pad and that seems to help with the jumping cursor. I found out how to do this via an Ubuntu help page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad You can read the link, but I think the instructions pretty much go something like this: --- Open the xorg.conf file via the Terminal/ Konsole, Find a part called InputDevice with: Identifier Synaptics Touchpad written underneath. Before the text EndSection add the following line: Option SHMConfig on (Make sure it's set out in the same way as the rest of that section.) Save, exit then restart your X server, which can be done by pressing ctrl + alt + backspace Once you are back on your desktop, open the Terminal/Konsole and enter the following command: synclient TouchpadOff=1 That will disable the touch pad. Enter the same command again with a value of 0 to re-enable the touch pad. **Make sure to do this correctly as messing up the xorg.conf file will cause problems.** - As an alternative to entering the disable command in the terminal every time, you could make a shell script file or assign keys to those commands to make it easier to execute. I think that within Ubuntu, you can just write that command in a text editor, save it and run it as an executable via the prompt when you click on the file. I think that: #!/bin/sh is required at the start of the text file to make it executable in Kubuntu- though please correct me if I am wrong. There might be some programs that do this for you as well- QSynaptics??- but I remember it not working so well for me a few months ago. These commands however do resolve the problem temporarily, though of course, it means that the touch pad is disabled for the duration of your current session. It might be a bit futile me posting these commands up in that whilst it is a temporary solution to the annoying jumping cursor problem, it doesn't actually solve the problem, as I'm sure that the aim of this bug report is to find a way to stop the touch pad from messing with the cursor, without having to disable it. [Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing
System: - Dell Inspiron 1300 - Intel Celeron M processor - RAM: 1GB - Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 (This has been a continuous problem throughout the 5 or so months that I've been using Ubuntu. Right from 6.06 to 7.10, I've always had issues with the cursor moving and subsequently changing where I am typing. If the touch pad is disabled, the problem goes away but that's only a short term solution. I think the importance should be medium or high too because it isn't fair that we laptop users should have a second rate experience of Ubuntu and purely down to the fact that this is a persistent issue. The problem occurs in Firefox, OpenOffice and Gedit for me. I also get an additional problem in that sometimes the mouse pad will occasionally click onto hyper links or Live Bookmark links close to where my cursor is. [Bug 179194] Re: Banshee Music Player: When the slider is clicked ahead of the current time, the song does not advance.
I don't seem able to achieve the same results as you, Andrea Colangelo. For the moment I am without a mouse, so am relying on my touchpad and it's buttons. I don't know whether this makes any difference- I don't think it should- but with my touchpad, clicking ahead of the slider with either the left click or right click button, double tapping the pad or doing the same with 'crtl' pressed down first, the song does not make the slider move to the place I click for me. It behaves in the same way as I described in that on clicking, a song momentarily freezes and then continues to play from the time at which it was before it is clicked. No matter how long I keep clicked down for ahead of the time indicator on the slider, the song doesn't fast forward for me. [Bug 179197] Re: Exaile song rating system
It may just be me, but I can't help but feel that an 8 point system is rather excessive especially in the light of a lot of other music players using the 5 point system. In addition to this, regardless of how many stars one picks, they don't appear under the ratings column and even if it did, it doesn't appear that you can even allocate points without having the song playing. Even in terms of presentation, 8 stars over 5 stars in a ratings column seems rather cumbersome to me. Again, this is just my opinion and it may not necessarily reflect the views of other people. Also, with people who are making the transition from other operating systems or more simply other music players, I think its important to have features which they may be more familiar with. Exaile is an excellent program with some good ideas for features such as its tablature and lyrics searching capabilities. But I just wonder whether the current ratings system needs to be reconsidered(?) It's nice to have features that make a program stand out or just plain different, but sometimes similarity (and familiarity) isn't/aren't (a) bad thing(s) as far as programs go. -- Exaile song rating system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179197 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
