[Bug 773466] Re: libva1 trying to open /usr/lib/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so ends with segmentation fault

2011-05-21 Thread Two Point Oh
nvidia ION graphics: GT218 [ION] (rev a2). When viewing videos (size matters
not: same thing with 360p, 720p, 1080p) with vlc using libva1 1.0.12-1~xup from
the ubuntu-x-swat-x-updates ppa, gpu acceleration works and the video plays
fine up to a point at which vlc abruptly consumes all 4 GB of ram in the
computer (Intel Atom D525 cpu) and starts to fail.
Example: downloading this Youtube video and playing in vlc:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR94NDIfGmA
However, there is at least one test case that does not fail: downloading this
Youtube video and playing it in vlc gives no problem, no weird memory usage,
even at 720p: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qY2MOe8j2M

[Bug 511691] [NEW] Nautilus disc burner does not use specified disc name

2010-01-23 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

OS: Linux Mint 8 Helena
Gnome: 2.28.0
Gnome Nautilus: 2.28.1
Brasero: 2.28.2

I'm not sure exactly which package this involves, but the problem I am
facing is that when I use the CD/DVD creator method of burning to disc
with the drag and drop feature in a Nautlius window and then specify a
disc name, once the burn process has completed, the disc is named
'CDROM' as opposed the name that I had typed in.

To reproduce:
1)insert a blank CD/DVD into the disc drive
2)select the CD/DVD creator option to burn to a blank disc
3)drag a file to the drag and drop area
4)click on the write to disc button
5)enter a new name into the 'disc name' section and proceed with the burn.

[Bug 365898] Re: skim doesn't always minimize to system tray

2009-12-21 Thread TWO
Sorry, I posted the last comment by mistake.

I've experienced this problem with both 9.04 and 9.10, and have had the
SKIM system tray icon and the Skype icon as the main culprits, however I
think the Skype icon issue was under 9.04 and KDE 3 with Compiz.

AFAIK, this only occurs at random as on most occasions that I log in,
the SKIM icon is in the system tray.

These are the details of my /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/skim file:

XIM=SCIM
XIM_PROGRAM=
if [ -e /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/*/immodules/im-scim-bridge.so ]; then
GTK_IM_MODULE=scim-bridge
elif [ -e /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/*/immodules/im-scim.so ]; then
GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
else
GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
fi
if [ -e /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods/im-scim-bridge.so ] || [ -e
/usr/lib/qt4/plugins/inputmethods/im-scim-bridge.so ]; then
QT_IM_MODULE=scim-bridge
elif [ -e /usr/lib/qt3/plugins/inputmethods/libqscim.so ]; then
QT_IM_MODULE=scim

QT_IM_MODULE=xim
fi

DEPENDS=skim, scim-bridge-client-gtk | scim-bridge-client-qt | scim-

I'm not sure what I else I can tell you to make this post more useful,
but I'm happy to follow any instructions to try and solve this bug.

[Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing

2009-05-03 Thread TWO
The status of the bug needs to return to incomplete as it is still an
issue for some users. It remains a problem on the system that I have
mentioned in earlier posts under all KDE 4 releases of Kubuntu and even
the 3.5.10 candidate release of Jaunty.

[Bug 368293] [NEW] Wi-fi function broken after installing Kubuntu Jauntu and KDE 3.5

2009-04-27 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

#System specs:
OS: Kubuntu Jaunty Jauntelope 9.04

[Bug 135388] Re: Firefox fails to display the Timidity GUI

2009-01-05 Thread TWO
This problem still exists as of 06/01/2009, under Firefox 3.0.5 and
Timidity 2.13.2.

The same instructions to reproduce apply.

I cannot vouch for the Galeon dialogue, however Konqueror under KDE
3.5.10 presents a dialogue window, giving the option to either save the
link to the midi file or to play it via the Timidity MIDI sequencer.

[Bug 303905] [NEW] radio streams continue to play when x server is reset

2008-12-01 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gecko-mediaplayer

Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 with all updates as of 1st December 2008.

Packages:
gecko-mediaplayer 0.7.0-1ubuntu2
gnome-mplayer 0.7.0ubuntu1
mplayer 2:1.0rc2-0ubuntu17
firefox: 3.0.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1

If one happens to reset the X server system via the ctrl + alt +
backspace command whilst one is listening to radio streams (which I
presume are windows media format), the sound continues to play during
the reset process and beyond completing log-in back into the system.

The problem is that even when the Firefox session is restored after
logging in, it attempts to open new streaming windows as opposed to the
ones that were open in the previous session and it remains impossible to
stop the already running streams without killing the 'mplayer' processes
that are running in the System Monitor.

I would expect that the streams would stop with resetting the server, or
at least for the stream controls provided by gecko-mediaplayer/mplayer
to be restored.

To reproduce, install gecko-mediaplayer and open up any radio stream
(maybe of any file format, but in this case Windows Media) and then
reset the X server system via the ctrl + alt + backspace shortcut.

are still missing fonts here and there.

[Bug 274189] Re: jockey-kde crashed with dbus ServiceUnknown error in call_blocking (KDE PolicyKit agent not available)

2008-10-21 Thread TWO
This is fixed by installing policykit-gnome. policykit suggests
policykit-gnome, but it looks like either policykit or jockey-kde should depend
on it (or depend on a virtual package that is provided by policykit-gnome and
the equivalent KDE package which apparently hasn't been created yet).

The problem remains even after installing the package policykit-gnome
Ben Bethge.

My system is trying to install the Broadcom B43 wireless driver. This
was installed without a problem in KDE 3.5.9 but having just returned
from trying the Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex beta, the error message that it
does not have root privileges keeps appearing.

How do I get hold of the package: jockey - 0.5~beta1-0ubuntu5

If it was released in the repositories- I even have 'unsupported'
updates enabled, the problem hasn't gone yet.

[Bug 182288] Re: blank screen with kwin effects

2008-10-14 Thread TWO
Jonathan Thomas, I'm not so sure that the bug has been fixed with 4.1.
When I ran KDE4 under Hardy Heron 8.04 and had desktop effects enabled,
logging in was never a problem. However, I have found that with Intrepid
Ibex 8.10 Beta and KDE 4.1.2, attempting a log-in after a session in
which desktop effects have been enabled results in me being completely
unable to do anything once having logged in. The only keyboard shortcuts
to work are those that reset the X window system, and those that change
between using KDM and the command line. In that situation, changing to
the command line gives me nothing but a flashing cursor. I am unable to
do anything.

After reinstalling,I later found that when having windows effects
enabled, sometimes Kubuntu would fail to even get passed the boot screen
after the GRUB menu. In order to get passed the boot screen in that
situation, I would need to boot into the recovery console then proceed
to the 'resume' option.

My system is a Dell Inspiron 1300, with a Intel Corporation Mobile
915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03)
display controller. The drivers are all provided by Ubuntu.

I haven't as off yet tried the:
[Compositing]
Enabled=false

workaround that has been suggested but will try to do so soon.

[Bug 269615] Re: dolphin trying to access volume(ext3) from places does not work

2008-10-14 Thread TWO
Further to my last post, I've found that under Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta
1 KDE 4.1.2, if you attempt to run:
'kdesudo dolphin' in Konsole, Dolphin opens up with the following error message
at the bottom of the window:

Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: The name
org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files.

I am then unable to access my Home folder or any other partition via
that instance of Dolphin. However, whilst leaving that instance running
and then selecting File Manager from the Kmenu, I am able to see the
Home folder plus all of the other partitions that I have (FAT32 and
NTFS) in the new instance of Dolphin.

Although inadvisable, should I run 'sudo dolphin' in Konsole, I am able
to access all partitions first time. Accessing a memory card in a camera
however is still not possible for me.

[Bug 269615] Re: dolphin trying to access volume(ext3) from places does not work

2008-10-13 Thread TWO
I am running the Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex Beta with KDE 4.1.2 and I have
noticed this problem as well.

I have three partitions on my hard disk; ext3 (Linux), FAT32 (shared)
and NTFS (Windows.) I cannot access the FAT32 or NTFS partitions even
though they have icons in the sidebar of Dolphin. Neither of the
partitions appear under /media/.

If I run 'sudo dolphin' in Konsole, then I'm able to access the
partitions after entering a password prompt. I am still able to access
the partitions even if I close down Dolphin, run 'sudo -k' then reopen
it. However, once I restart the session and I am unable to access them.

Interestingly enough, I am unable to access the memory card on my camera
under any circumstances. The camera appears under Dolphin, however on
clicking on the icon, I am presented with the following message at the
bottom of the window:

An error occurred while accessing 'Volume (vfat)', the system responded:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage
or helper program, or other error
in some cases useful info is found in syslog-
try
dmesg | tail or so

Running the command in the Konsole gives the following message:

dmesg | tail
[ 497.829070] ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.
[ 503.956036] FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems,
filesystem will be case sensitive!

[ 553.066840] UDF-fs: No VRS found

[ 701.433464] UDF-fs: No VRS found
[ 701.617837] ISOFS: Unable to identify CD-ROM format.

That means nothing to me. Trying dmesg | so gives a 'command not
found' error message.

I don't know if this is significant, but up until Hardy Heron, those
different partitions were identified with an /sda/ sequence and the same
was true during the installation process, but now they are now
identified by 'disk,' 'disk-1,' etc.

[Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing

2008-10-03 Thread TWO
So far, I've tried to reduce the sensitivity under the 'general' tab in
the gsynaptics program, but this just becomes an inconvenience as the
touch pad obviously becomes less responsive. Doing so did not stop the
cursor from jumping and affecting my text input either.

This is not the only problem though, as the touch pad issue also selects
hyperlinks that I didn't intend to click sometimes.

We're soon coming onto Intrepid Ibex and this would make the 4th
distribution in a row where the touch pad on my Dell Inspiron 1300 has
been an issue.

If I were to disable the touchpad and then just use a mouse with the
system, the problem doesn't occur.

Why is this bug's status invalid under the 'Ubuntu Dell Project'?
Shouldn't this bug be assigned to them as well?

Also, what about someone upgrading the bug's status to 'critical'? This
bug was reported over a year ago and there hasn't been any movement on
it at all. It really does affect the user experience of Ubuntu.

[Bug 210303] Re: [hardy] kaffeine loops on Codec package is already installed

2008-09-17 Thread TWO
I don't think it's fair to go that far people. It is indeed very
annoying that there doesn't seem to be any official movement on this
bug, but patience is a virtue, right?

There are plenty of other media players out there and I'm sure we're all
capable of using other ones until the problem with Kaffeine is fixed.

In the meantime, I think that those who have the expertise to find a fix
should do so and then share this with the rest of us who aren't so
gifted. Maybe then the Kubuntu Team will take notice.

If people give up and walk away, nothing will ever get solved.

[Bug 269359] [NEW] Kaffeine won't play .mov files

2008-09-12 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

#Kaffeine 0.8.6
#Kubuntu Hardy Heron

Problem:
Kaffeine fails to playback .mov files.

Description:
When Kaffeine is chosen to open a .mov file, the Kaffeine codec installer
dialog appears and the progress bar goes to 100% with 'preparing' indicated

Codec package is already installed

[Bug 210303] Re: [hardy] kaffeine loops on Codec package is already installed

2008-09-12 Thread TWO
I've been redirected to this bug report as I submitted one earlier
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kaffeine/+bug/269359) with
regard to this problem happening with .mov files.

Further to my bug report, it seems that the problem is intermittent when
it comes to .mov files. I downloaded a few more just to test the
problem, and with one of the .mov files Kaffeine played without a
problem. The same was true of another file that I downloaded, however
upon clicking 'x' to close that particular instance of Kaffeine, the
program would crash and give the backtrace error that I have provided as
an attachment.

I am a little baffled as to why the chances of playback should vary from
file to file in spite of them all being the same file type.

found under kmenu Internet does not open the knetworkmanager program
when clicked.

It has never seemed to work properly, even though clicking the icon in
the system tray opens the program as expected.

It is a minor detail, but one would expect that all the kmenu links to
installed programs would work.

[Bug 133133] Re: Open containing folder is only working if nautilus is present

2008-05-15 Thread TWO
I'm not sure whether it's a Firefox 3 issue myself, but I can confirm
that it's an issue with Firefox 2. I reinstalled it when I upgraded to
Kubuntu Hardy Heron and the problem still persists. It would be nice if
this was fixed for Firefox 2 though since I'm not sure when Firefox 3 is
going to stop being beta and then there's the fact that anyone using
(K)(X)Ubuntu 8.04 is stuck with this version until October.

[Bug 228933] [NEW] tk dependency is not installed

2008-05-10 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amsn

#Other packages:
tk8.4 8.4.16-2ubuntu1

tcl8.5 8.5.0-2ubuntu1
tcl 8.4.16-1
tcltls 1.5.0.dfsg-6

#Dependency not installed by default: tk 8.4.16-1

I was about to file a bug report about being unable to retrieve off-line
messages without the program either freezing or crashing. However, after
looking through the Adept Manager, I took a chance and installed a
package called tk. This instantly resolved the problem as the off-line
message appeared instantly when I logged in after installing it. I had
this problem ever since I have used aMSN.

This version of aMSN was installed via the Hardy Heron repositories.

I don't know how prevalent the problem of not receiving off-line
messages is, but if the aforementioned package is required but isn't
installed by default then surely that is a problem.

[Bug 228134] [NEW] Occaisionally not possible to drag the slider with left click

2008-05-08 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

#Kubuntu 8.04
#KDE 3.5.9
#VLC 0.8.6.release.e+x264svn20071224+faad2.6.1-0ubuntu3

For a while now, I've been experiencing a rather annoying problem where
during DVD playback, I try to click and move the slider to another point
but it jumps back in steps to the beginning with each left click.
Alternatively, it may move in advancing steps and occasionally alternate
between the both. The problem is that the function occasionally does work
whilst other times I am faced with that problem. I remember experiencing
a similar problem with the program Totem and Banshee Music player back
when I used Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. I don't know whether the problems are
related.

Having checked now, the function seems to work correctly with the
middle-click button, but in my own experience isn't the standard way to
do so with the left button and then to drag? Either way, the function
doesn't seem correct to me.

[Bug 40048] Re: K-Menu icons not created before next logout

2008-05-04 Thread TWO
This problem persists for me under Kubuntu Hardy Heron and KDE 3.5.9. It
was also a problem under Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon as well.

I've just installed some programs via Adept Manager (2.1 Cruiser) and
whilst the majority of the appeared under the K Menu, there remained one
or two that didn't.

One example is KCheckers 0.8.1-1 which post installation, didn't appear
in the K Menu. I had to manually edit the menu to get it to appear.

Following the instruction in duplicate bug #44861 to run kbuildsycoca to
update the menu hasn't made other recently installed programs appear
either.

Examples of the programs I installed are gnuchess 5.07-4 and etktab
3.2-2.

[Bug 223116] [NEW] KNetwork Manager and wireless on a Dell Inspiron laptop [Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 3.5.8]

Public bug reported:

#Dell Inspiron 1300

#Broadcom Wireless Card (Broadcom B43 wireless driver)

After having upgraded to Kubuntu Hardy Heron, at each login the laptop's
wireless indicator is on. Even when this is disabled under Network
Settings - Network Connections, though it turns off after that, it is
reactivated when I log in again. Even with the option for wireless being
disabled under via right-clicking the KNetworkManager icon in the system
tray, the icon remains lit. This was not a problem when using Gutsy
Gibbon.

Furthermore, under connection status in KNetworkManager the 'Device' and
'Vendor' fields are displayed as 'Unknown' and this wasn't the case
under Gutsy either. This is referring to a wired connection but I think
it highlights the problem with KNetworkManager under this upgraded

[Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing

2008-04-16 Thread TWO
I think you can edit the xorg.conf in order to disable the touch pad and
that seems to help with the jumping cursor. I found out how to do this
via an Ubuntu help page:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad

You can read the link, but I think the instructions pretty much go
something like this:

---
Open the xorg.conf file via the Terminal/ Konsole,

Find a part called InputDevice with: Identifier Synaptics Touchpad
written underneath.

Before the text EndSection add the following line: Option
SHMConfig on
(Make sure it's set out in the same way as the rest of that section.)

Save, exit then restart your X server, which can be done by pressing
ctrl + alt + backspace

Once you are back on your desktop, open the Terminal/Konsole and enter
the following command:

synclient TouchpadOff=1

That will disable the touch pad. Enter the same command again with a
value of 0 to re-enable the touch pad.

**Make sure to do this correctly as messing up the xorg.conf file will cause
problems.**
-

As an alternative to entering the disable command in the terminal every time,
you could make a shell script file or assign keys to those commands to make it
easier to execute. I think that within Ubuntu, you can just write that command
in a text editor, save it and run it as an executable via the prompt when you
click on the file.
I think that: #!/bin/sh is required at the start of the text file to make it
executable in Kubuntu- though please correct me if I am wrong.

There might be some programs that do this for you as well- QSynaptics??-
but I remember it not working so well for me a few months ago.

These commands however do resolve the problem temporarily, though of
course, it means that the touch pad is disabled for the duration of your
current session.

It might be a bit futile me posting these commands up in that whilst it
is a temporary solution to the annoying jumping cursor problem, it
doesn't actually solve the problem, as I'm sure that the aim of this bug
report is to find a way to stop the touch pad from messing with the
cursor, without having to disable it.

I do hope this problem gets fixed soon.

[Bug 135062] Re: mouse pointer moves cursor while typing

2008-01-30 Thread TWO
System:
- Dell Inspiron 1300
- Intel Celeron M processor
- RAM: 1GB
- Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10

(This has been a continuous problem throughout the 5 or so months that
I've been using Ubuntu. Right from 6.06 to 7.10, I've always had issues
with the cursor moving and subsequently changing where I am typing. If
the touch pad is disabled, the problem goes away but that's only a short
term solution. I think the importance should be medium or high too
because it isn't fair that we laptop users should have a second rate
experience of Ubuntu and purely down to the fact that this is a
persistent issue.

The problem occurs in Firefox, OpenOffice and Gedit for me.

I also get an additional problem in that sometimes the mouse pad will
occasionally click onto hyper links or Live Bookmark links close to
where my cursor is. As you can imagine, this too is also very
problematic.

2008-01-05 Thread TWO
I don't seem able to achieve the same results as you, Andrea Colangelo.
For the moment I am without a mouse, so am relying on my touchpad and
it's buttons. I don't know whether this makes any difference- I don't
think it should- but with my touchpad, clicking ahead of the slider with
either the left click or right click button, double tapping the pad or
doing the same with 'crtl' pressed down first, the song does not make
the slider move to the place I click for me. It behaves in the same way
as I described in that on clicking, a song momentarily freezes and then
continues to play from the time at which it was before it is clicked. No
matter how long I keep clicked down for ahead of the time indicator on
the slider, the song doesn't fast forward for me.

I will have to try this out with a mouse to see if I can achieve the
same effects as you.

[Bug 179197] Re: Exaile song rating system

2008-01-03 Thread TWO
It may just be me, but I can't help but feel that an 8 point system is rather
excessive especially in the light of a lot of other music players using the 5
point system. In addition to this, regardless of how many stars one picks, they
don't appear under the ratings column and even if it did, it doesn't appear
that you can even allocate points without having the song playing.
Even in terms of presentation, 8 stars over 5 stars in a ratings column seems
rather cumbersome to me. Again, this is just my opinion and it may not
necessarily reflect the views of other people.

Also, with people who are making the transition from other operating
systems or more simply other music players, I think its important to
have features which they may be more familiar with. Exaile is an
excellent program with some good ideas for features such as its
tablature and lyrics searching capabilities. But I just wonder whether
the current ratings system needs to be reconsidered(?) It's nice to have
features that make a program stand out or just plain different, but
sometimes similarity (and familiarity) isn't/aren't (a) bad thing(s) as
far as programs go.

[Bug 179197] Exaile song rating system

2007-12-29 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: exaile

I would like to see the Exaile song rating system similar to that of say
Rhythmbox or Banshee in that it uses a rating system of 5 stars. I think
this method is much more simple to use, and is the standard method of

confusing. Moreover, even if you allocate x number of points to the
songs rating, it isn't displayed next to the song under the ratings
column.

[Bug 179024] Songbird shuts itself down when attempting to update from within the program

2007-12-27 Thread TWO
Public bug reported:

I have just downloaded Songbird Debian package songbird_0.2.5.1_i386.deb
according to instructions from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Songbird.
I am running this on Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 and GNOME 2.20.1.

On the web browser screen, I am notified that there is an updated
version of the program. On clicking the icon, I am given an
unencrypted warning message which on clicking 'ok' is followed by a
window quickly opening and closing then the program disappearing. The
title of the window is Opening Songbird_0.3.1_linux-i686.tar.gz

When I opened the program through the terminal and did the same actions,
the following appeared:
