[Bug 447224] Re: Filezilla crashed on file resuming

2010-01-10 Thread Tim Kosse
This problem is caused by a race condition in the socket class of
FileZilla.

Happens if CSocket::Disconnect() get called between the worker thread's
call to getaddrinfo and re-obtaining the lock. In that case the worker
thread continues to connect and ultimately sets the socket state to
connected, despite the previous call to Disconnect.

The attached patch solves this problem.

[Bug 421208] Re: filezilla crashed with SIGSEGV in dbus_connection_dispatch()

2009-10-13 Thread Tim Kosse
This problem has been fixed upstream, see
http://filezilla.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/filezilla?view=revrevision=3445

The root cause was that threading wasn't initialized in libdbus, leading
to plenty of race condition causing the observed crash.

Two possible workarounds for this issue until the FileZilla package in Ubuntu
gets updated:
a) Disable the Prevent system from entering idle sleep during transfers and
other operations option in the settings dialog of FileZIlla
b) alternatively install the ibus-gtk package, if it gets loaded during startup
of FileZilla it initializes threading in libdbus before FileZilla calls any
function from libdbus.

[Bug 433856] [NEW] Unable to configure multiple monitors

2009-09-21 Thread Tim Kosse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I am unable to configure my monitors using System - Preferences -
Display using a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 6.

My graphics card is a Radeon HD 4850 and two monitors are attached to the
system:
- BenQ G2400WD, native resolution of 1920x1200, attached over HDMI
- Samsung SyncMaster 930BF, native resolution 1280x1024, attached over DVI

On first startup, both displays came up in mirror mode, showing the same
with a resolution of 1280x1024.

Disabling mirror mode and setting higher resolution on the BenQ prompts
to set the virtual resolution. After accepting it asks to logout and
back in again.

After logging out and back in however, nothing has changed, mirror mode
is still enabled with both displays running at 1280x1024.

[Bug 392312] Re: Does not support Greek characters in remote pc

2009-06-26 Thread Tim Kosse
Looks like a problem with your server.

 Εντολή: MKD νεος
 Απάντηση: 257 /domains/oinos-meli.gr/public_html/íåïò - Directory
 successfully created

íåïò is the iso8859-1 interpretation of the iso8859-7 representation of
νεος

One reason this can happen is the following:
- Server uses single-byte characterset internally, most likely ISO8859-1
- Upon receiving νεος in UTF-8 the server decodes it to its single-byte
character set. Since ISO8859-1 doesn't contain greek characters it simply uses
the corresponding values from ISO8859-7 as replacement.
- When re-endocing the reply back into UTF-8 it interprets its internal
representation according to ISO8859-1 again.

[Bug 392312] Re: Does not support Greek characters in remote pc

2009-06-26 Thread Tim Kosse
Now I see what's going wrong. Your server does not include UTF8 in its
FEAT reply.

On such servers you must not use non-ASCII characters as use of any
character set other than ASCII (unless explicitly negotiated through
undefined means) on non-UTF8 capable (as determined by FEAT response) is
against FTP specifications.

Read RFC 959 and its dependencies as well as RFC 2640.

Quote from RFC 959:
  control connection

The communication path between the USER-PI and SERVER-PI for
the exchange of commands and replies. This connection follows
 the Telnet Protocol.

Quote from RCC 854 (telnet):
   1. When a TELNET connection is first established, each end is

[Bug 392312] Re: Does not support Greek characters in remote pc

2009-06-25 Thread Tim Kosse
Use of non-ASCII characters requires UTF-8 encoding. Use of any other
encoding is in violation to the FTP standards, see http://wiki
.filezilla-project.org/Character_Set

Do you see any warnings about invalid character sequences in the message
log of FileZilla? If so your server is not UTF-8 capable.

On non-UTF8 capable servers you cannot use non-ASCII characters. In that
case either refrain from using non-ASCII characters or upgrade to a
proper server.

Caused by an incorrect entry in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi installed by
libgphoto2.

The USB product ID used by Sansa e200 running in UMS/MSC mode, both by
Rockbox as well as original firmware is 0x7421. The PID for MTP mode is
0x7420.

The fdi file lists both PIDs for use with MTP which is incorrect,
removing the wrong entry makes it work again.

[Bug 360271] Re: fzsftp crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

[Bug 355998] Re: usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning

2009-04-13 Thread Tim Kosse
Me too!

I'm also using a Rockbox (revision 20666) on a Sansa e280 v1.

Trying to connect it to my Thinkpad R52. After plugging it in it's stuck
at usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning.

I do not have problems on other operating systems (Gentoo Linux, Windows
XP, OS X 10.5)

[Bug 346244] [NEW] Mute button on Thinkpad does never unmute, the volume notification thinks otherwise

2009-03-21 Thread Tim Kosse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

I have a Thinkpad R52. It that has three buttons to control the volume:
down, up and mute. The buttons are partially implemented in hardware.

Pressing the mute button multiple times never unmutes the volume.
However, the state shown by the volume notification toggles between
muted and unmuted. The actual volume however stays muted.

Expected behavior: Pressing the mute button multiple times should result in
either
a) the notification not toggling between muted and unmuted (leaving the audible
behavior like it is now) or should
b) actually unmute the volume, not just display it unmuted

I am using Jaunty, last updated a few minutes before writing this. As
far as I can remember it used to work like a) just fine in previous
Ubuntu versions,

[Bug 217975] Re: Cannot show/delete hidden files or delete folders that contains hidden files on FTP

2008-11-12 Thread Tim Kosse
No. Since LIST -a is not standardized, a corresponding line for the
FEAT reply isn't standardized either.

You could use heuristics to test for LIST -a support (e.g. list same
directory twice, first with LIST then with LIST -a and check that the
second listing is a superset of the first). But as with all heuristics,
they can result in failures. In the worst case, the heuristic reports
support for LIST -a on a server not supporting it, causing further
problems.

The only fool-proof solution is to contact the server administrator so
that he can properly configure the server or alternatively install a
better one.

If you really want to use LIST -a, use a heuristic and make it so that
the user has to explicitly enable it, together with a big warning
explaining the problem.

Remark: Some servers, e.g. vsftpd, rely on unspecified LIST -a support.
force_dot_files=YES should be added to the default configuration so that
no new server installations use this broken behavior.

[Bug 217975] Re: Cannot show/delete hidden files or delete folders that contains hidden files on FTP

2008-11-12 Thread Tim Kosse
We could probably expect it to use the FTP standard LIST -a command
to show hidden files

LIST -a is not standard, it is nowhere mentioned in RFC 959 or any
other RFC relevant for FTP. In fact, there are many servers which
interpret LIST -a as list the file or the contents of the directory
named -a.

A server not showing all files with LIST relies on nonstandard behavior
and is essentially broken.

[Bug 279409] Re: unable to configure a fixed ip on wired interface on knetworkmanager (intrepid)

2008-10-30 Thread Tim Kosse
I can confirm this and have been ranting about this in my IRC channel
for quite a while (8.10 alpha 3 I think was earliest I tried, was
already broken back then). But since setting up a network connection is
something so terribly basic (everybody does it all the time), I didn't
report it. I'm negatively surprised that it didn't get fixed yet, I
don't have any unusual or rare hardware.

[Bug 284755] Re: Filezilla and the New Human Theme

2008-10-19 Thread Tim Kosse

http://filezilla.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/filezilla?view=revrevision=2811
http://filezilla.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/filezilla?view=revrevision=2812

The first one fixes the background color of the info text in the remote
file list when not connected to any server.

The second one fixes the color of the status lines in the transfer
queue. In addition, the status lines will no longer overlap the
scrollbar, as visible in the screenshot attached by the original bug
reporter.

[Bug 147162] Re: french freebox update directory host

2007-10-21 Thread Tim Kosse
From the log: Status: Invalid character sequence received, disabling
UTF-8. Select UTF-8 option in site manager to force UTF-8.

According to the FTP specifications, the only two valid encodings for
FTP are plain ASCII (RFC 959) as well as UTF-8 (RFC 2640). Your server
violates these specifications and uses a different encoding.

As workaround, you can use the Site Manager of FileZilla where you can
select a custom encoding for your server which may or may not work. If
possible, fix your server.
