mckeimic, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following

Hi Christopher,
If I remember correctly I got in touch with a kernel/X developer who
pointed me in direction of a newer kernel. This fixed the flickering
(which was really annoying).
I am now on 12.04 and the flickering is gone. I'm not sure if you can
mark this bug as corrected, but it was fixed in a newer kernel.

I cannot find the answer email and it's been an ubuntu upgrade since
then, so can't give you much help with which kernel I used (it was
something with 999 in it, but that is close to what I remember)

Thanks for following up.

I am experiencing the same as bonne I believe. Connecting a screen makes
the system freeze. Booting with external monitor and the computer stops.
No blinking keyboard though.

I can add that the freeze is no longer present when using 2.6.35-22, but then
another issue comes up: Screen blinking/flickering. It is only the laptop
screen that flickers/blinks as the external monitor is not blinking/flickering.
flickering/blinks = Screen goes black for a very short period of time (less
than a second) and comes back.

[Bug 651658] [NEW] Dell Latitude E4310 does not resume after suspend

2010-09-29 Thread Trond Husoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pm-utils

When trying to resume from suspend the screen continues to be black.
But the system is back up and running as I can access the laptop through ssh.

1)
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

2) This is related to X I believe, or a drive issue...

3) I expected the system to get back up and so I could see content on
the screen.

4) The screen is black. Nothing happens when I move the mouse or clicks
on the keys. Also, since I have a backlit keyboard, I can see that these
keys do not light up - even when the room is dark.

The problem with this bug is that it is also present in other
applications that is built on Eclipse.
I've experienced the button-problem in both Zend Studio and Aptana.

The workaround is to click on the button so that it becomes active
( or marked ) and then press enter or the key combination for the
specific button.

2009-11-04 Thread Trond Husoe
I am not sure if anyone experience the same as I do, but here is a short
description:
When I connect the iPod Banshee opens up automatically and an iPod icon shows
up on the desktop - and also in Nautilus.
It does not show up in Banshee how ever.
So it seems as if the system understands that the iPod is there, just that
Banshee does not get it (yet).

Do you think we should mark this as a duplicate of 445009? It really
seems to be the same issue.

I think it is a good idea to mark this bug as a duplicate if it is
similar.

At the same time I think we should fix the problem in Eclipse so that we
don't have to untick first checkbox in Assistive Technologies, this so
that we don't break other programs - or that the fix is not permanent.

[Bug 469684] Re: Does not mount Western Digital Passport

I believe this bug might be connected to the fact that I changed the
label / volume under 9.04. My other WD disk connects and mounts
correctly.

[Bug 469684] [NEW] Does not mount Western Digital Passport

2009-11-01 Thread Trond Husoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

2)

3) Under 9.04 the passport connected and I could see a passport-icon.
Under 9.10 this is all gone. I can however see it in both dmesg and
/var/log/messages as being connected. I would expect that the disk
mounted when I did this.

4) No icon shows up and the disk is not accessable. It is also not
being mounted.

[Bug 345002] Re: gprs/3g driver in 9.04

2009-09-02 Thread Trond Husoe
My onboard 3g/umds-card works, but it wvdial does not connect to it after
suspend.
One funny thing though is that when I run the commands from wvdial and checks
them by tailing /dev/ttyUSBx (sometimes it is 1, sometimes it is 2 and
sometimes it is 0...) I can see that the modem is getting the commands, but
wvdial still comes back with Modem not responding

Example (I have configured wvdial.conf to check how strong the signals are when
running this command):
$ wvdial signal
-- WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
-- Cannot get information for serial port.
-- Initializing modem.
-- Sending: AT+CSQ
-- Sending: ATQ0
-- Re-Sending: AT+CSQ
-- Modem not responding.

In the tail-window I get:
AT+CSQ
+CSQ: 1,99

OK

Please let me know if there are some log-files I shall send back.

[Bug 183136] Re: Error while Storing folder apos;INBOXapos;

2009-08-18 Thread Trond Husoe
Totally agree that fix does not fix the problem. I believe that the
problem must be related to one or more corrupted messages. I had this
message a few times. Removed the files, but the message comes back.

Today it got worse. I had a message saying that the Inbox was corrupted.
So I lost some 800 e-mails. I love to use Evolution, but when
something like this happens I get seriously worried. I took backup of
the folders just prior to the corruption so I have the e-mails. This is
worrying though.

It is one of those things that I would say shall not happen, and is
another reason for me not to suggest going from Windows to Ubuntu Linux
in the Enterprise.

Re: [Bug 123064] Re: Upgrade to Eclipse 3.4

 I've been working on a package for 3.4 since RC1. I just uploaded a
source package to my [[https://launchpad.net/~rock-gimp/+archive ppa]].
It is based off of the never-released packaging for 3.3 in debian's pkg-
java svn. There are a few major issues:

  * Help indexing causes memory corruption, which leads to a crash. This
seems to be a gcj-4.2 issue; other jvms don't seem to have this problem.
Unfortunately, the source package is set up to build with gcj, so some
of the help file packages never get built. Furthermore, if you try to
search help files installed using the update manager while running under
 gcj, eclipse crashes.

  * The Eclipse source build lost the ability to compile the SWT native
libraries sometime between RC1 and the final release. This package uses
the .so files that come in the upstream tarball.

  * There are several jars that were replaced with symlinks to jars in
/usr/share/java. Since the 3.4 versions have had osgi properties added
to their manifests, this isn't a safe transformation anymore, so those
files aren't replaced with symlinks anymore.

  * P2 doesn't work. If you enable classic update, you can still use it
to install new plugins from update sites.

Despite all that, I've found it to be reasonably stable and much more
useful to me than the 3.2 packages in Hardy.

It seems to me that a good idea would be to help out Rockwalrus with
the building.

[Bug 221691] Problem related to Intel 810i driver

2008-05-16 Thread Trond Husoe
I think I have finally managed to find out where the problem is. I ran gksudo
displayconfig-gtk and changed driver from i810 to choose driver by model and
selected 845. It is put at 945.
When I changed that I clicked ctrl+alt+backspace and it tried to log back in
and it had some configuration problems.
When I change back it does no longer have the problems with moving files and
such.

How to replicate this problem
1) run displayconfig-gtk with gksudo
2) Change driver from 945 to 845 or someone else
3) restart X by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace
4) You will be getting an error message saying that there is some problem with
the configuration, and that Ubuntu is running in Low Graphics mode. Settings
will be set to 800x600.

It's kinda hard to for me to describe in easy steps how to trigger the
issue. But this is the state of my desktop at the moment:
1) I log in and the desktop comes up with standard icons.
2) I check to see if things have become better by clicking around on the
desktop. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. When they don't I
get selected areas where I have selected the desktop.
3) Sometimes I can't choose the icons, menus or anything. When that
happens I right click and I get the pop up menu. Then things are back to
normal.
4) This also affects the fact that when moving windows they go into
maximize state first before they are moved. This is what happens:
4a) Grabbing the title bar by left clicking it.
4b) While holding the title bar I move the mouse pointer.
4c) The window maximizes.
4d) The window goes back to same size as it had before it became
maximized
4e) The window is moved / moving.

5) Today I can sense that the mouse is to picky. It thinks I am double
clicking everything...

So for me this seems like has something to do with a) Nautilus or b) X
and some configuration settings related to latest versino of X. This did
not happen in Ubuntu 7.10.

I will provide any log-information needed to get this fixed.

- Binary package hint: nautilus
+ Binary package hint: nautilus, X-server

  1) Ubuntu Hardy
- 2) Just downloaded and installed the build that was released 24.04.2008
- 3) I moved the mouse over the titlebar and clicked the right mouse button.
This in order to move the window. When I start moving the mouse while holding
the mouse button down it does not move. The hand is there for a few seconds,
but then it seems like it slips. Normally I would be able to move the window
around. System runs without much Compiz stuff on it, and no wobbling.
- 4) The hand goes back to an arrow and it is not possible to move the window.
-
- I have not been able to create some debug-information, so if someone could
please tell me how to do this, I will very much like to do so.
- I will how ever reinstall Hardy today and tell the installer to format /boot
/ partitions so that I know that those partitions are empty.
+ 2) When moving a window with Compiz on the hand slips. With Compiz off the
window is first maximized before it is possible to move it. If I select areas
on the desktop sometimes the selected area does not disappear. Also moving the
mouse over icons doesn't highlight them. Sometimes I can't choose the icons or
anything on the desktop. I have to right click and get a pop up menu before I
can click on the desktop again.
+ Moving icons ends up opening up the document or start the program.
+ 3) Should work like this:
+ * Icons should highlight when mouse moves over.
+ * Windows shall not maximize when you move them around.
+ * Desktop should be refreshed and cleaned when an area is selected.
+ * Programs should not start when trying to move the icon. Documents should
not open when trying to move icon.

[Bug 221691] Live CD

2008-05-02 Thread Trond Husoe
Just to check if it was something with the install I checked if the
desktop-problem also was present when I ran the Ubuntu-version that is
on the Live CD. And it was.

However:
I've downloaded Gutsy and the problem is not there. I am seriously
considering downgrading to Gutsy.

[Bug 221691] Resolved?

2008-05-01 Thread Trond Husoe
I haven't really done anything, except that I installed the Gnome
something where I got shadows on the windows. And today after booting
things seems to work. I can move things, and the dots on the desktop
does not appear when I click on the Desktop.

IF someone wants to test if this is the reason, please do turn of
shadows and see if that creates some problems.

[Bug 221691] gconftool

2008-05-01 Thread Trond Husoe
As stated earlier I did something so that I got shadows and then things
started working on the next login.
This was the command I ran:
gconftool-2 -s --type bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager
true

However: I had a hard freeze while trying to remove the double calendar
in Evolution (or whatever happened), and now the desktop is back to
normal... I ran the command again now, and I shall see what happens
when I log in again.

[Bug 221691] definetly a nautilus bug

2008-05-01 Thread Trond Husoe
So now I have uninstalled / completely removed Compiz of this system and
the problem with moving things, windows and such are still present.
This is not a compiz-bug, but a Nautilus bug.

I have now logged in with Gnome as session and the bug is still present.
I have turned composite in Gnome off (had to go into terminal safe mode
to do that, otherwise the system just hangs.. it does something, but
menues, windows and such are blank)
I have logged in with Gnome Safe failback and the bug is still present.

As I can see I am the only one contributing to this bug, so I have a
feeling I am the only one experiencing it.

I have attached the logfile that I have found under gdm, maybe the
information there will help...

[Bug 221691] xorg.conf

2008-04-30 Thread Trond Husoe
I have now also checked if the problem could be related to X, and so I
am now copying the content of xorg.conf.

I am also trying to read up on getting debug-information from the X
Server.

Remember: I have a dell d420 with the intel graphicscard. I have a
feeling something is missing here, but I am not sure.

[Bug 32450] Re: Evolution crashes when starting.

enabled.

[Bug 221691] Same problem after clean reinstall

2008-04-29 Thread Trond Husoe
I have now reinstalled Hardy from scratch and also formated all partitions.
Just to be sure that there was no old settings there.
Under Compiz it is not possible to move the window. Well, it grabs the title
bar, but then it slips. When I turn off Compiz I can move the windows, but it
goes into maximize mode first.

I have also experienced that the desktop sort of freezes, but I can move
around with the arrow keys. If I right click the mouse, the pop up menu
comes up, and then the desktop is freed.

I have also experienced that if I want to move files from one directory
to another using the mouse, I open up all the marked applications and
files - which resulted in some 129 files opened, and two applications
starting.

I'm also experiencing that small dots - sort of like if you have marked
an area on the Desktop is present.

So I have a feeling this is a Nautilus AND Compiz bug, or probably a
Nautilus-bug that is causing problems for Compiz... Or something

Re: [Bug 221691] Re: Can't move window

2008-04-28 Thread Trond Husoe
I do think that it could be a nautilus problem as well. When I try and
move a window it is being maximized. When I try and move an Icon it
opens up the file or the program.

I will now try and create a new user on the same box and see if this one
gets the same problems.

Re: [Bug 221691] Re: Can't move window

2008-04-28 Thread Trond Husoe
I have now tried with a different user and the bug are still present.
When Compiz is activated (by default when creating a new user) the
window cannot be moved.

Turning Compiz of makes it possible to move. Sometimes the window opens
up maximized. Trying to move an icon is impossible. It tries to fire up
the program.

When moving a window on this user the window is maximized for a short
time before going back to it's original state and size.

Re: [Bug 221691] Re: Can't move window

2008-04-25 Thread Trond Husoe
Hi there,

After I installed the emerald-thingy I could move the windows. The
problem was present after a fresh and clean reinstall - except for the
Home partition (Which I had to have fresh as I have lots of important
data on that partition).

The desktop effects was set to middle if I remember correctly.

So you could say that the bug is not a bug, but at the same time that if
compiz is enabled that Emerald has to be installed.
