This fixed the flickering (which was really annoying). I am now on 12.04 and the flickering is gone. I'm not sure if you can mark this bug as corrected, but it was fixed in a newer kernel. I cannot find the answer email and it's been an ubuntu upgrade since then, so can't give you much help with which kernel I used (it was something with 999 in it, but that is close to what I remember) Thanks for following up. I am experiencing the same as bonne I believe. Connecting a screen makes the system freeze. Booting with external monitor and the computer stops. No blinking keyboard though. I can add that the freeze is no longer present when using 2.6.35-22, but then another issue comes up: Screen blinking/flickering. I can also confirm that E4310 does not return from suspend. It goes into suspend, the power button is showing so. When I click the power button, the machine is turned on, but the screen is black. The problem with this bug is that it is also present in other applications that is built on Eclipse. I've experienced the button-problem in both Zend Studio and Aptana. The workaround is to click on the button so that it becomes active ( or marked ) and then press enter or the key combination for the specific button. I am not sure if anyone experience the same as I do, but here is a short description: When I connect the iPod Banshee opens up automatically and an iPod icon shows up on the desktop - and also in Nautilus. It does not show up in Banshee how ever. My onboard 3g/umds-card works, but it wvdial does not connect to it after suspend. One funny thing though is that when I run the commands from wvdial and checks them by tailing /dev/ttyUSBx (sometimes it is 1, sometimes it is 2 and sometimes it is 0...) Totally agree that fix does not fix the problem. I believe that the problem must be related to one or more corrupted messages. I had this message a few times. Removed the files, but the message comes back. Today it got worse. I had a message saying that the Inbox was corrupted. So I lost some 800 e-mails. I love to use Evolution, but when something like this happens I get seriously worried. I took backup of the folders just prior to the corruption so I have the e-mails. This is worrying though. It is one of those things that I would say shall not happen, and is another reason for me not to suggest going from Windows to Ubuntu Linux in the Enterprise. This bug is bugging me in Ubuntu 9.04. I am using Compiz and it happens while I am using OpenOffice. I also experience when I use Inkscape in maximized mode that the window bounces up and down (titlebar goes behind top panel) and trying to close the application with the X-button, or unmaximize window is impossible. [Bug 221691] Related to Synaptic mousepad
After some help from freedesktop.org we have found out that this is related to the touch pad on the Dell computer(s) and it may also be related to other laptops with dual mouse setup. This could be related to the fact that the Dell D420 has two types of mouse. Could this be related to jcaya machine as well? Which type is it. Can you post the output of xev? If you have a mouse button in between the keyboard (like dell) and don't use the related mouse button, can you test with using different mouse buttons on the laptop? Today the icons under Nautilus was / is not responsive, but mouse can be used to click on links in status bar, menu and links in Firefox. Have to select an area in Nautilus to select icon. At one time this selected area was not removed. This area is moving up and down when I changed directory to cd-dvd creator because of the write to disc button- area. I still don't know what this could be, but I am trying to burn Gutsy to take a look at the xorg.conf-file. Tried to use the xorg.conf file from Gutsy. No change. Under Gutsy (before upgrading) I had issues with the Title bar disappearing, could this be related to the non-sticky title bar under Hardy? [Bug 221691] Problem related to Intel 810i driver
I think I have finally managed to find out where the problem is. I ran gksudo displayconfig-gtk and changed driver from i810 to choose driver by model and selected 845. It is put at 945. When I changed that I clicked ctrl+alt+backspace and it tried to log back in and it had some configuration problems. When I change back it does no longer have the problems with moving files and such. How to replicate this problem 1) run displayconfig-gtk with gksudo 2) Change driver from 945 to 845 or someone else 3) restart X by pressing ctrl+alt+backspace 4) You will be getting an error message saying that there is some problem with the configuration, and that Ubuntu is running in Low Graphics mode. I have reinstalled the intel-drivers + the 915resolution package. It seems like things have been fixed now, although I am not sure. I still think this is related to the intel-driver. After talking to someone on #nautilus they said this could be related to: a) X-server og b) an Intel driver that is not working. Just to check if it was something with the install I checked if the desktop-problem also was present when I ran the Ubuntu-version that is on the Live CD. And it was. However: I've downloaded Gutsy and the problem is not there. I haven't really done anything, except that I installed the Gnome something where I got shadows on the windows. And today after booting things seems to work. I can move things, and the dots on the desktop does not appear when I click on the Desktop. As stated earlier I did something so that I got shadows and then things started working on the next login. This was the command I ran: gconftool-2 -s --type bool /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager true However: I had a hard freeze while trying to remove the double calendar in Evolution (or whatever happened), and now the desktop is back to normal... [Bug 221691] definetly a nautilus bug
So now I have uninstalled / completely removed Compiz of this system and the problem with moving things, windows and such are still present. This is not a compiz-bug, but a Nautilus bug. I have now logged in with Gnome as session and the bug is still present. I have turned composite in Gnome off (had to go into terminal safe mode to do that, otherwise the system just hangs.. it does something, but menues, windows and such are blank) I have logged in with Gnome Safe failback and the bug is still present. As I can see I am the only one contributing to this bug, so I have a feeling I am the only one experiencing it. I have now also checked if the problem could be related to X, and so I am now copying the content of xorg.conf. I am also trying to read up on getting debug-information from the X Server. Remember: I have a dell d420 with the intel graphicscard. [Bug 221691] Same problem after clean reinstall
I have now reinstalled Hardy from scratch and also formated all partitions. Just to be sure that there was no old settings there. Under Compiz it is not possible to move the window. Well, it grabs the title bar, but then it slips. When I turn off Compiz I can move the windows, but it goes into maximize mode first. I have also experienced that the desktop sort of freezes, but I can move around with the arrow keys. If I right click the mouse, the pop up menu comes up, and then the desktop is freed. I have also experienced that if I want to move files from one directory to another using the mouse, I open up all the marked applications and files - which resulted in some 129 files opened, and two applications starting. I'm also experiencing that small dots - sort of like if you have marked an area on the Desktop is present. So I have a feeling this is a Nautilus AND Compiz bug, or probably a Nautilus-bug that is causing problems for Compiz... I do think that it could be a nautilus problem as well. When I try and move a window it is being maximized. When I try and move an Icon it opens up the file or the program. I have now tried with a different user and the bug are still present. When Compiz is activated (by default when creating a new user) the window cannot be moved. Turning Compiz of makes it possible to move. Sometimes the window opens up maximized. Trying to move an icon is impossible. It tries to fire up the program. Hi there, After I installed the emerald-thingy I could move the windows. The problem was present after a fresh and clean reinstall - except for the Home partition (Which I had to have fresh as I have lots of important data on that partition). The desktop effects was set to middle if I remember correctly.
