[Bug 1597916] [NEW] SSSD authentication fails against AD on Samba4 domain controller host

2016-06-30 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

When SSSD is run on a server that hosts an AD domain controller powered
by Samba4, all authentication attempts will fail if SSSD is configured
to use the said AD DC as backend and access_provider = ad is specified
in the SSSD configuration. No problems with authentication other servers
with the same SSSD setup, it'll fail just for the host running the DC.

This is a known bug documented and fixed with a simple patch available
at https://fedorahosted.org/sssd/ticket/2870. Upstream has merged this
and will be available in SSSD 1.14 when released.

Please consider merging this patch for the Debian/Ubuntu SSSD packaging.
I'd love to see this uploaded to xenial also. Thank you.

[Bug 1543046] Re: thermald spamming kernel log when updating powercap RAPL powerlimit

2016-04-03 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Unfortunately the 1.4.3-5ubuntu1 does not fix this bug for me. I'm using
Ubuntu 16.10 on a Dell XPS 13 9343 machine with Haswell i7-5500U CPU and
still getting this same error spammed in syslog every 4 seconds even
after updating the thermald package from wily-proposed.

[Bug 1265475] [NEW] Please apply patches supporting Haswell based Chromebooks

2014-01-02 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

Hi!

Would it be possible to apply these patches for the trusty kernel so
that the next LTS would fully work on the new Haswell based Chromebooks
(Acer C720, HP Chromebook 14) out of the box? Currently and without
these patches e.g. touchpad doesn't work.

https://patchwork.kernel.org/bundle/bleung/chromeos-laptop-deferring-
and-haswell/

The patches apply cleanly against linux 3.12.0-7.15 in trusty. This
would most likely also fix
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1257879.

[Bug 1022217] [NEW] Connection to spice graphics console broken due to an invalid URL being generated

2012-07-08 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

I have to machines running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS precise. The first one is
running some KVM based virtual machines using libvirtd and qemu-kvm-
spice. The 2nd machine uses virt-manager with python-spice-client-gtk
installed to manage the VMs over qemu+tls libvirtd transport protocol.
Generally, virt-manger works great like this, but connecting to the
graphics fails due to an invalid spice URL being generated. No problems
with VNC graphics.

I have following configration for graphics console at libvirtd server
side:

graphics type='spice' port='5902' autoport='no' listen='10.11.0.1'
keymap='fi'
  listen type='address' address='10.11.0.1'/
/graphics

While running virt-manager --debug and connecting to the console from
another machine, the following gets printed:

2012-07-08 09:30:32,522 (console:1075): Starting connect process for
proto=spice trans=tls connhost=10.11.0.1 connuser=root connport=5902
gaddr=10.11.0.1 gport=5902 gsocket=None
2012-07-08 09:30:32,523 (console:490): spice uri:
spice://root10.11.0.1?port=5902

The spice URL is broken. I removed the line 488 in
/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/console.py and then it's working great.
Changing the line so that URL like spice://root@10.11.0.1?port=5902 gets
generated didn't work either. Looks like spice doesn't support user names in
the URL so it should be dropped altogether.

[Bug 994208] Re: Needs to know about quantal

2012-06-10 Thread Tuomas Jormola
IMHO devscripts 2.11.6ubuntu1.2 in precise-updates is broken for
precise.. When using dch(1) from this package on precise, the default
distribution in changelog entries in now quantal, not precise. I
don't you want to change that from precise to quantal 12.04 LTS aka.
precise. Of course it's a good thing the tools recognize quantal as a
possible valid distro name, but it shouldn't be the default in this
case...

I fixed this locally by adding the file debian/pydist-overrides with the
following line and rebuilding. The resulting deb has correct
dependencies.

[Bug 847844] Re: Tevii S660 USB DVB-S2 firmware missing

The firmware file in question is dvb-fe-ds3000.fw and can be obtained
from http://www.tevii.com/100315_Beta_linux_tevii_ds3000.rar. This same
firmware is also required for many other TeVii cards using the ds3000
driver, such as S464 that I'm using. Please add this firmware to linux-
firmware-nonfree package.

[Bug 973886] [NEW] PC/SC support broken due to multiarch enabled libpcsclite1

2012-04-04 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

At least in precise, libpcsclite1 provides the multiarch enabled shared

[Bug 966849] Re: Please enable VirtFS support by rebuilding against libattr1 and libcap2

2012-03-28 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Well, this particular feature is enabled and working as-is with the
binary provided by qemu-kvm. Currently, we have situation where you can
have a libvirt based VM that works with filesystem .../ definition and
devicesemulator/usr/bin/kvm/emulator.../devices but fails if
this is changed to /usr/bin/kvm-spice, which enables other goodies
related to SPICE. For this reason I wouldn't be too concerned about the
possible 9p related issues.. qemu-kvm-spice is already more unstable
than qemu-kvm but currently it doesn't support all the features the
stable parent does...

[Bug 966146] [NEW] Please change the dependency to support Heimdal GSSAPI module

2012-03-27 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

Currently sssd package depends on the package libsasl2-modules-gssapi-
mit. Please change this to libsasl2-modules-gssapi-mit | libsasl2
-modules-gssapi-heimdal so that the Heimdal implementation of GSSAPI
module can also be used.

I prefer the Heimdal implementation over the one by MIT and these can't
co-exist, the packages conflicts each other. I tested sssd with
libsasl2-modules-gssapi-heimdal installed by installing sssd using dpkg -i
--force-depends sssd_1.8.1-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb. sssd GSSAPI works just fine
also with the Heimdal implementation so there's no reason not to allow it.

[Bug 966146] Re: Please change the dependency to support Heimdal GSSAPI module

2012-03-27 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Well I guess your comment regarding similarity between the MIT and
Heimdal GSSAPI module implementations is spot on. They seem to work
identically. But for utils I prefer heimdal-clients over krb5-user. Of
course there's nothing preventing one from using the MIT GSSAPI module
and Heimdal clients, but somehow I just find it more convenient by going
with the all-Heimdal client approach, I guess :) And since it's
technically possible, why not facilitate that by the packages posing
dependency on a GSSAPI module implementation.

[Bug 966146] Re: Please change the dependency to support Heimdal GSSAPI module

2012-03-27 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Yes this change would not change the way sssd is built on Ubuntu or
against which Kerberos implementation the binaries/libraries are linked
against. It would just allow usage of the Heimdal GSSAPI module which is
load at runtime if GSSAPI is enabled. With the way the dependecies are
currently declared, it's impossible to have both sssd and libsasl2
-modules-gssapi-heimdal package installed at the same time.

On a related note, I don't understand why this change was implemented in
1.8.1-1 at all..

* Move libsasl2-modules-gssapi to sssd Depends to make sure it gets
installed, as it's needed in most cases.

You can use sssd just fine without Kerberos so I think this dependency
should be Recommends. And by default, Ubuntu APT configuration pulls all
Recommends dependencies also. Quoting http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-
policy/ch-relationships.html :

Recommends

This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.

The Recommends field should list packages that would be found
together with this one in all but unusual installations.

Or maybe even Suggests...

Suggests

This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with one
or more others. Using this field tells the packaging system and the user
that the listed packages are related to this one and can perhaps enhance
its usefulness, but that installing this one without them is perfectly
reasonable.

[Bug 966849] [NEW] Please enable VirtFS support by rebuilding against libattr1 and libcap2

2012-03-27 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

virtual fs or folder sharing from host to guest. VirtualFS support

[Bug 953922] [NEW] When cloning a VM with qcow2 disk, the cloned VM will have its disk defined as raw format in its config

2012-03-13 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

I tried the cloning feature of virt-manager. First I created a VM with
qcow2 disk and installed Ubuntu on it. Then I shutdown the VM and
created a clone of it. The clone was successfully created, but the
configuration of the disk is invalid. The disk type in the cloned VM is
raw, not qcow2. The actual format of the cloned disk image is qcow2,
only the config is wrong. After changing the type of the disk back to
qcow2, the cloned VM can see the disk just fine.

Here's the libvirt XML config snippet for the disk on the VM to be cloned:
disk type='file' device='disk'
  driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/
  source file='/var/lib/libvirt/images/test.img'/
  target dev='vda' bus='virtio'/
  address type='pci' domain='0x' bus='0x00' slot='0x05' function='0x0'/
/disk

And the same config for the clone VM before fixing the type manually:
disk type='file' device='disk'
  driver name='qemu' type='raw'/
  source file='/var/lib/libvirt/images/test-clone.img'/
  target dev='vda' bus='virtio'/
  address type='pci' domain='0x' bus='0x00' slot='0x05' function='0x0'/
/disk

see http://www.bacula.org/en/?page=news. 5.2.2 is labeled as an
important bug fix release and the later 5.2.3 fixes even some more
bugs. Thanks.

[Bug 603582] Re: Please merge mdadm 3.1.2-2 (main) from Debian stable (main)

2010-10-15 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Well, they didn't upgrade to the latest available version in jaunty,
karmic, lucid or maverick. What makes you think Canonical would bother
to do that for natty? Joking aside, I think it's pretty ridiculous that
yesterday was the 2nd birthday of the upstream version of mdadm in
Ubuntu while piles of cool features have been implemented in upstream
since that... What other important package in main has suffered from two
years of bit rot?

[Bug 538473] Re: conntrack related kernel crash in karmic when running IPv6 + ip6tables and KVM

2010-05-29 Thread Tuomas Jormola
I think there's absolutely no need to further diagnose this issue. It
has been diagnosed, acknowledged and fixed months ago by the upstream
kernel developers. All you need to fix this issue for karmic kernel is
to apply the very simple patch that I linked in the original posting.
Links to RedHat bugzilla contain technical details of the issue.

[Bug 538473] Re: conntrack related kernel crash in karmic when running IPv6 + ip6tables and KVM

2010-05-28 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Argh, this is exactly why it is so utterly frustrating to report bugs to
Ubuntu. First you report what's wrong and also point to upstream patch
to fix the problem. Then you're ignored for weeks until an automated bot
posts standard boiler plate comment which contains some questions. For
all the questions the answer could be obtained if somebody actually
bothered to read the initial bug report. Yes, it still affects the
release in question (2.3.31 in karmic) until the linked patch is applied
and yes, it's fixed by upstream so it's not affecting lucid or later
releases. How hard can it be? What's the point of filing bug reports if
nobody really reads them and all you get is some automated nonsense and
then the bug is closed?

The problem is that some needed symbols are stripped from libjvm.so.
Installing openjdk-6-dbg package doesn't fix the issue and you shouldn't
need this huge package anyway for the functionality.

[Bug 538473] [NEW] conntrack related kernel crash in karmic when running IPv6 + ip6tables and KVM

2010-03-13 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

Hi!

I was bitten a known bug that causes hard crash of the kernel on every
boot when I was testing my new IPv6 enabled setup. It's caused by a
memory corruption bug in connection tracking code and triggered when
having a bridged network interface having an IPv6 address assigned and
some firewall rules applied (I'm using shorewall6) and a KVM based
virtual machines are being started. The patch is quite simple, would it
be possible to get this included in the karmic kernel? It's already
fixed in lucid since 2.6.32-15.21 as it was fixed in the upstream
2.6.32-stable.

[Bug 299944] Re: ldm should depend on gtk2-engines instead of gtk2-engines-clearlooks

2008-12-30 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Well, In that case the clean way is to update the dependencies to depend
on gtk2-engines, not gtk2-engines-clearlooks, which does not exist in
the archives anymore. gtk2-engines replaces/provides/conflicts gtk2
-engines-clearlooks.

[Bug 299944] Re: ldm should depend on gtk2-engines instead of gtk2-engines-clearlooks

2008-12-29 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Hi,

Yes from technical point of view the dependency is ok. But don't you
think it's quite silly to have dependencies on packages that don't exist
any more? It's called bit rot. Besides fixing that is just a matter of
changing one line, so why not do that for the next jaunty upload?
Besides, AFAIK Ubuntu uses the murrine GTK+ engine by default nowadays,
not Clearlooks, so why have reference there?

[Bug 311957] [NEW] Please enable support for dummy interfaces

2008-12-28 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

It would be quite beneficial if dhcp3 server supported Linux dummy
ethernet devices by default. For example I would like to use dummy
interface on a virtualization host to provide net install and/or LTSP
services for virtual machines. This requires working PXE booting setup,
which requires DHCP server in the subnet. A clean way to implement this
is to add a dummy interface on the server and configure virtualized
network interfaces on the virtual machines that are bridged to the dummy
interface on the host and have the host services (DHCP, TFTP etc.)
listen the bridged dummy interface.

Using of dummy interfaces is explicitly disabled in the DHCP server
source. The behavior can only be toggled during build time. It's
controlled by the macro SKIP_DUMMY_INTERFACES in includes/cf/linux.h.
That definition should be commented out.

The actual code that skips dummy interfaces only checks if the name of
the interface begins with the string 'dummy'. Thus one can work-around
this problem by renaming the interfaces provided by the dummy ethernet
driver by editing udev rules. However, this is not very nice thing to
do. And neither is the decision by maintainers of ISC DHCP just blindly
ignore all interfaces with some string of their choosing in the name of
the interface. Since the administrator has already mechanism to limit
DHCP server to use only those interfaces that are wanted, this kind of
arbitrary limitation by the software should go away.

[Bug 61827] Re: Wireless on Amilo M7440 doesn't work: needs module fsm7440

2008-12-27 Thread Tuomas Jormola
I can confirm this. When running Intrepid, you need fsam7440 loaded in
order to get Amilo 7440 wireless working. I downloaded driver v0.4 from
sourceforge and applied the proc_root patch, compiled, installed, rmmod
ipw2200, modprobe fsam7440, modprobe ipw2200 and wireless is working
fine. Also added fsam7440 to /etc/modules so wireless works on after
reboot.

I see no reason why not to include this driver in Jaunty since also
fsam7400 is already patched in. That would make another piece of
hardware work out of the box with Ubuntu.

[Bug 307845] Re: RFE : Please include rule for virtio block devices

2008-12-15 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Maybe I should've been more specific. Currently, when you boot a KVM
based virtual machine with virtio based block device configured, there
will be /dev/vd[a-z] block device nodes available for disks that were
attached when you first booted. However, if you hot-plug new disks to
the VM by e.g. running command attach-disk in virsh management utility,
and the kernel is configured to detect plugging of disks (default
Intrepid kernel will work just fine as long as acpiphp
module is loaded), no block device for the disk is created under /dev.
udev does not know about these vd* disks and thus no new /dev/vd*
device is created for the newly plugged in disk. Thus you can't actually
access the new disk for e.g. partitioning it since there's no
corresonding block device available. With this patch applied to the rule
file, udev will create /dev/vd* block device for the new disk as
expected, as it does when e.g. a FireWire or USB disk is plugged in, and
you can partition the disk with fdisk or do what ever you normally do
with a block device node. I don't care where this rule should be put,
go ahead and implement functionally equivalent fix somewhere else,
it's just that current udev in Ubuntu does not work as it should.

[Bug 307845] [NEW] Please include rule for virtio block devices

2008-12-14 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Hi,

The following patch adds support for virtio based disks (/dev/vd*
devices). The driver was added in Linux 2.6.26 and newer libvirtio
supports attaching and detaching of disks while KVM virtual machine is
running. With standard Intrepid the block devices are not automatically
created when a new disk is plugged in. With this patch applied, hot-
plugging of virtio disks works as expected (though the driver currently
doesn't implement clean deatchment of disks, but that's another story
and not related to udev in any way). Please apply for jaunty.

[Bug 304124] [NEW] apticron should use bsd-mailx when sending email

2008-12-01 Thread Tuomas Jormola
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apticron

Apticron in Intrepid fails to send any emails if heirloom-mailx is installed.
See the Debian bug #502790 for explanation:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=502790

Please fix this by depending on mailx-bsd and alter the apticron script
to use mailx-bsd command instead of mailx.
