[Bug 1524019] Re: Documentation not found

2016-05-21 Thread Twisted Lucidity
This also affects "Muon", "Connection Editor" and possibly other
applications.

"Konversation", "System Settings", "Konsole", "Kate" and "KPatience" all
seem to be OK, so clearly documentation package exist somewhere.

I know that https://userbase.kde.org/ exists and will contain the, most
up-to-date information, but that is not usable when one does not have
Internet access.

I have looked through the packages, but don't see ones that relate to
"Muon" and "Connection Editor".

2016-05-13 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Public bug reported:

The install starts OK and then fails about half way through with:

Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed.

[Bug 1509334] Re: [sru] plasma-nm blocks temporarily on startup w/o bluetooth device – KDE/Plasma very slow to launch (Kubuntu 15.10)

2016-05-04 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Apols for quick second post.

At login, the progress bar is filled within around 4-6 seconds, the
desktop does not appear until around 24 seconds later.

The "empty session" trick from #81 has no effect, it stil take 30-32
seconds in total to get to the desktop.

[Bug 1509334] Re: [sru] plasma-nm blocks temporarily on startup w/o bluetooth device – KDE/Plasma very slow to launch (Kubuntu 15.10)

2016-05-04 Thread Twisted Lucidity
I am also seeing a long delay after entering my password. Long enough
for clients to fail as I am unable to enter my KWallet password within
their timeout period.

I have tries "systemd-analyze", but that only seems to cover the boot process
and not login.
The headline from it is: Startup finished in 6.599s (kernel) + 8.008s
(userspace) = 14.608s

I sat with a stopwatch and manually timed things.
>From cold-boot (including POST etc) it took 18 seconds to see the login screen.
After enter my password and pressing "Enter" at the login screen, it took 32
seconds to see the desktop. For a vast majority of this time, the progress bar
sat at 100% and nothing appeared to be happening.

I've been trying to get get "systemd-bootchart" to show me what happens after
login, but I think it only captures the boot process.
Is there any way for me to capture what is causing login to be so slow? I tried
to look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BootCharting (mentioned in #1353587) but it
is missing.

[Bug 697980] Re: float option not available in GUI

2014-11-23 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Seems this hasn't been addressed (tested on Kubuntu 14.10), but there is
a small hack that can be used to set float. However, it will affect
*ALL* OpenVPN clients:

sudo mv /usr/sbin/openvpn /usr/sbin/openvpn.binary
sudo echo "#\!/bin/sh
exec /usr/sbin/openvpn.binary --float $*" > /usr/sbin/openvpn
sudo chmod 755 /usr/sbin/openvpn

What might be the easiest way to solve this would be to add and "Extra
values" text box to allow any random values to be passed that may be
required.

[Bug 1377497] [NEW] Unable to unlock guest seesion in Kubuntu 14.04

2014-10-04 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Public bug reported:

OS: Kubuntu 14.04
Desktop: KDE
Applidation: KDE Screen Lock (sorry, don't know the exact package name)

Symptom: After being left alone, Kubutnu will lock the guest user's
session. It is then not possible to resume (blank passwords or obvious
possibles like "password", "guest" are no accepted) and the computer
needs to be rebooted to gain access (losing any files and data that the
guest might have in-use).

Expected behaviour: Either the screen does not lock, or the guest
account is informed of the password to use during log-in

I have read bug 1059625 but that appears to applyt to Gnome (or possibly
Unity) whereas this affects Kubuntu/KDE.

[Bug 1325614] Re: Cannot unlock screen in KDE

2014-06-02 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Done a bit more testing and it appears to be solely the presence of the
external monitor that renders the lock screen unlockable.

The simple lock screen works OK with an external monitor, it's only the
widget enabled lock screen that is affrected.

[Bug 1325614] [NEW] Cannot unlock screen in KDE

2014-06-02 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Public bug reported:

System Info:
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

Hardware: Lenovo THingpand T430 connected to an external Dell montior;
using onboard Intel 4000 HD

Configuration: widget-enabled screen locker, desktop effects (OpenGL
3.1).

Expected:
When screen locks (either through time-out or user request), clicking on the
cashew in the top right should permit unlock.

What happens:
Nothing - it is not possible to unlock the screen.

Viable workaround:
None. It might be that using "xrandr" for effects doesn't cause the issue, but
I haven't had time to fully test.
The only option is to force a shutdown and then start, losing all data in open
applications.
Reboot does not seem to work correctly when the screen can't be unlocked, hangs
with black screen when it should show log-in screen.

I am more than happy to run any required tests or pull required logs.

[Bug 416513] Re: duplex printing no longer works for OfficeJetPro 8500 with HPLIP > 3.9.6b

2013-04-26 Thread Twisted Lucidity
I am seeing the exact same issue with an OfficeJet 6500a Plus e710n-z on
Ubuntu 12.10 using HPLIP 3.13.4

I fixed it by running "system-config-printer" from the CLI, deleting all
instances of the printer (looks like the HPLIP may have created duplicates) and
adding it back.
Then going into the setting of the printer (Right-click, Properties)
Selecting "Installable Options" and checking "Duplexer Installed".
Ok all that, log out and in again.
(This is the exact same as editing the ppd, but might be preferred by those who
like a GUI)

Checking in HP shows the duplexer no enabled BUT the main issue of the
controls being greyed out is still present.

[Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)

2011-09-27 Thread Twisted Lucidity
I have noticed that in 10.10, having Metacity set to do compositing
causes video tearing (tested apps: SMPLayer, XBMC; both using VDPAU)
whereas using Compiz does not (once refresh rates and "Sync to VBlank"
are set via correctly CCSM and in the X Server settings).

This is on a system with a GT240 and using the proprietary drivers

[Bug 774850] Re: Sounds turns distorted; restarting pulse fixes

2011-07-20 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Not 100% sure if this is related; but whilst using Skype I started VirtualBox
and the sound distorted (rendering Skype useless). I had to kill Pulseaudio
and Skype to recover.
Starting VirtualBox with just SMPlayer running did not result in the distortion.
Pulseaudio may not even be at fault, but it's certainly where I observe the
issue and giving Pulseaudio a slap fixes the issue for a while.

[Bug 774850] Re: Sounds turns distorted; restarting pulse fixes

2011-06-07 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Strange behaviour I just noticed that might be realted to this. I was playing
the Linux version of "World of Goo" and the sound became distorted.
Alt+Enter made the games windows, sound still distorted.
I clicked on the speaker in in the top right and then "Sound Preferences..." so
I could switch off sound for the game.
As soon as the dialog displayed, the sound was no longer distorted and remained
stable for the next 30 mins or so (I go bored and exited the game).
I have no idea why bringing that dialog up would clear the distortion, but it
did.
