Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Karmic desktop completely frozen (mouse and keyboard) after enabling Compiz Reflection plug-in in a Dell Inspiron 1525 notebook with an Intel 965 GM video controller. [Bug 160238] Re: Corrupted AppArmor audit log messages
It may not be necessary anymore but I found out why I couldn't start klog. If this is a reoccurring problem we can track down where it is happening by cutting out parts of the auditing chain. [Bug 117621] X server hangs at boot after latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 After updating to kernel 2.6.20-16.28 the boot process hangs, apparently while starting the X server. Usually the system hangs with a black screen at the point it should display the GDM (login) screen. Less frequently a frozen X shaped cursor is visible in the center of the black screen. The keyboard is inactive: 'caps lock' or 'num lock' do not work. The HD led blinks every 2 seconds. A hardware reset is required. The problem occurs with both 'nvidia-glx' and 'nv' drivers (standard install from Ubuntu repositories). The system works fine with the previous 2.6.20-15 kernel. Otherwise, I was able to boot kernel 2.6.20-16.28 in recovery mode and and successfully start the X server (startx) from the command line. That gave me a desktop in root mode. I manually started GDM and restarted the X server (ctrl+alt+back) and that gave me my usual GDM login screen, from which I was able to login to my personal account. After an initial error message saying 'failed to initialize HAL' the system was quite functional, including Beryl. Although /dev/sda and /dev/sdb were changed to /dev/hde/ and /dev/hdg/ I could access all partitions, including NTFS read/write. The only problem was that I could not mount neither my cdrom nor my USB pendrive. Uninstalling nvidia-glx and falling back to the 'nv' driver did not solve the problem. 2.6.20-15 works fine. -- latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117314 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems
As I said before, in my case, kernel hangs during boot with a X cursor frozen in a black screen. 2.6.20-15 works fine. This post is to attach my syslog. ** Attachment added: syslog http://librarian.launchpad.net/7860514/syslog -- latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117314 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems
@Gorgonzola Besides that particular problem, there are people reporting issues with third party drivers, X server not loading and wireless cards failing to work. Please bear in mind that these issues are all related to modified kernel modules, and DO NOT apply to the kernel itself. My system hangs apparently while loading X server. Since I have installed everything from the Ubuntu repositories that should be correctly handled by the 'linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-generic' package. It was NOT. -- latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117314 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
