ButBurners.com... How is this comment constructive in the slightest??

So the person is having an issue with Ubuntu on an SP3 on an Ubuntu
forum. So a recommended solution is to purchase a SP2 and install a
completely different variant of linux!? How is that helpful??

[Bug 878898] [NEW] package backuppc 3.1.0-9ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-installation-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2011-10-20 Thread Viking
Public bug reported:

This is an updated version to the bug report #872443

After de-installation for reinstall with web-server integration
(apache2) backuppc failed to install, even the manual deletion of all
installed files and folders did not succeed in correct installation.

This report was generated after enabling apport as tasked by Crichton in
bug #872443.

I hesitate to translate all German text within the attachments, but will at
least do for the error message.
The German ErrorMessage tells:
Sub process installed post-installation-script returned error code 1

In bug #872443 the following tags were added: package-install-segfault

Having gone through the flies on my own, I guess the de-installation
process doesn't include the deletion of user and group accounts created
during the first installation neither it removes authorisations to
specific processes. The re-install process doesn't check for this.

Hope this bug report helps to solve the issue in the package.

I just wanted to add that I also have trouble moving windows in the workspace

It feels as if the position I click on the switcher zoom is misplaced from what
I see, so I have to move around clicking to hit the right window.

[Bug 458853] Re: deluged crashed with SIGSEGV in libtorrent::torrent::disconnect_peers()

2010-09-22 Thread viking-pl
Hey... this thing happened to me few times back then. Kind of year ago, so
please forgive me if I do not remember too much.
It was not a frequent thing, however it happened enough times for me to bother
you with report. I would bet It was not easily or obviously reproducible,
because I would probably write something.
In the meanwhile I moved to Lucid. I think, but am not sure, it stopped before
the upgrade.
If you have some specific questions, I'll do my best to answer them.

[Bug 576705] Re: Epson inkjet printer does not work on 10.04

2010-06-12 Thread Viking Dave
Tried #23. The only driver from the C68 list that works is
foomatic/gutenprint-ijs-simplified.5.2[en]. Tested the following:-
Print test page O.K.
Print self-test page error format not supported
.txt O.K
.pdf O.K.
.odt O.K.

Strangely using the same driver listed under stylus S20 does NOT work
(weird).

Hope this helps. Viking Dave.

[Bug 576705] Re: printer dosn't work on 10.04

2010-05-07 Thread Viking Dave
Tried fix for bug 539708, no change. Is there any way to install the
drivers from 9.10 that worked, or is this not possible?

[Bug 576705] [NEW] printer dosn't work on 10.04

2010-05-06 Thread Viking Dave
Public bug reported:

epson stylus s20 worked in 9.10 with cups+gutenprint 5.2.4en driver. will NOT
work in 10.04 with cups+gutenprint 5.2.5(simplified)en (recommended) or
cups+gutenprint 5.2.5en.
Symptoms :- Printer moves as if it is going to print, stops, moves as if it has
finished.
Print queue says processing, pauses, says completed.
This happens with both new drivers.

patch, my touchpad didn't work at all.

[Bug 460013] Re: Cannot set wallpaper. Just black screen intead of selected wallpaper.

2010-03-27 Thread Viking
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 444139 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444139

Just came across this posting from someone in an ubuntu forum.
I too am having issues with my Ati based video card. Mine is an Ati Radeon
9200SE 128MB AGP card. When I installed Ubuntu 9.10, the desktop was black,
I was unable to place icons for anything on the desktop. What I finally figured
out, was
that desktop effects were turned on by default, so i turned them off. That's
when my desktop
came back and i was able to change backgrounds and add icons as usual.
It appears that the default (open source) ati drivers no longer support the
9000 series
video cards for anything but basic desktop use in ubuntu 9.10. You'd think
ubuntu would
see that there are so many people that are still using these cards and support
them still.
After all, linux has always been known for running on older and slower hardware.

[Bug 351186] Re: [M76] [ubuntu 9.04] [ubuntu 9.10] slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-11-26 Thread viking-pl
The xserver-no-backfill ppa is now also available for Karmic. (
http://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/xserver-no-backfill )
Works with my Mobility Radeon 3650 HD pretty well. You may have to force
version to get it working (SynapticPackageForce version on
'xserver-xorg-core')

Thank you Bryce!

[Bug 140908] Re: Nvidia 8800 video card - black screen - system does not complete startup

2007-10-16 Thread Viking
 - Modifying /boot/grub/menu.lst and doing away with kernel option
splash does solve the problem -

I'm using ubuntu 7.04 64 bit, and experiencing the same blank screen on boot
up,(32 bit has the same issue) irregardless as to whether I use the live cd or
the alternative. As far as the above quote goes, I was wondering if you could
give details on how I would do this exactly. What needs to be either deleted or
further commented out?

Thanks!
