[Bug 2057792] Re: Some Games are crashing linked to a vm_max_map_count too low

2024-03-24 Thread vince
Hello Sebastien,

I agree with you.

The value 2147483642 is the value purposed by TKG kernel, but as
mentioned in my report, if the value is > 200k well issues in game is
over.

I think, the fedora value is a good approach because we already have
return of their experience, and there is no trouble linked about this
value reported in the fedora side.

[Bug 2057855] Re: Snap updates not displayed in Discover

2024-03-22 Thread vince
I have the same issue, discover do not update snap package.
Installing theme is still possible but not update available (example with
firefox, still in firefox 122 while snap refresh, update to 124. It can
generate secure issue, i think it's a big issue.

It's mandatory to make snap refress until is fixed

[Bug 2057792] [NEW] Some Games are crashing linked to a vm_max_map_count too low

2024-03-13 Thread vince
Public bug reported:

Hello there,

I submit this request to improve the gaming experience in ubuntu for all users.
Today, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Citizen and few more games are crashing or just
not starting because the vm_max_map_count is locked at 65530. If we change this
value to a value > 20, all games are working well and there is no bug
linked to maps.

Some others distribution like Fedora or Pop OS, have already made the
change few month before.

It's time to Ubuntu to makes the change also.

Thanks in advance for applying this request.

How to make this change :

One file to modify :
/etc/sysctl.conf
Add this line :
vm.max_map_count=2147483642
Save
Reboot and enjoy

Best Regards
Vinceff

2021-07-07 Thread Vince Manapat
No, this is the sound from the headphone jack, not the monitor. I agree
it's not immediately apparent how those commits could affect the sound.

When I go into the sound settings it shows my headphones as plugged in.
But even when I try to use the "test left" and "test right" buttons
nothing comes out.

[Bug 1934868] [NEW] Sound now longer works on hirsute after linux-firmware upgrade to 1.197.2

2021-07-07 Thread Vince Manapat
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 1.197.2 from 1.197 my sound stopped working. I spent
some time following the "sound troubleshooting procedure" but nothing
worked. Eventually I downgraded the package and now my sound is working
again.

Obviously there isn't much info here, but if it's helpful I can upgrade
the package again and get whatever diagnostic info would help.

[Bug 1875594] Re: multipathd failed to get udev uid, add missing path

2021-06-02 Thread Vince Thyng
I wanted to point out that the solution in comment #22 to set
disk.EnableUUID to true in the VMX file has perils to be aware of. This
discussion surfaces them:

https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-vSphere-Discussions/Why-is-
disk-enableuuid-TRUE-not-the-default/td-p/518472

Mostly around cloning a VM, which is pretty common in virtualized
environments. If the user does not update the UUID in the VM, backup
software may think that the UUID has already been backed up and not
backup a VM's data. Changing the UUID on a cloned VM can confuse the OS
when booting, seeing it as a new disk.

For anyone looking for a workaround:

$ sudo systemctl edit snapd.service

If empty, only add the following:

[Service]
TimeoutSec=15

I guess the value of TimeoutSec depends on how much you value the data
integrity of snaps/containers that you run. I prefer not having snaps at
all. I only still have it for LXD because it stopped doing apt packages.
Anyway the LXC containers I run are not important, so 3 seconds is more
than enough for me personally.

I gave ubuntu-bug a whirl and ... maybe it worked.

It prompted me whether I wanted to send the report. I said 'S' as the first
option I chose and after
printing several screens of "." it exited with status 0. It didn't
print any bug number as
far as I could see.

The whoopise id file is there but following the link as you describe gives me a

[Bug 1838192] [NEW] X server segfaults immediately at startup

2019-07-28 Thread Vince
Public bug reported:

This system was working perfectly 3 months ago. I turned it off and left it off
until yesterday.
When I came back to it and turned it on, it worked initially but then the
nvidia video card
(nvidia GeForce GT 630) decided to die. I replaced the video card with an
nvidia GeForce GT 710
and hit this issue. The machine also has integrated Intel graphics which I am
not using.

The system boots fine, I see BIOS boot messages and linux kernel messages until
X tries to start.
After it does that, nothing is displayed on screen. If I try to switch to
another VT with
  for example, I get no output then either.

I am using the nvidia drivers and they seem not to be loading for some reason.
I need to use them for vdpau support.
Here is where the X server tries to load the nvidia driver, from earlier in the

[Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour

2019-07-24 Thread vince lewis
Note that this became 100% consistent. As in every time I booted I got the
issue, rather than just most of the time.
Also, that it's now in release 5.0.0.20-lowlatency, 64 bit version.

fair enough - but my update is that it became 100% consistent. As in every

[Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour

2019-06-24 Thread vince lewis
I have the same issue.

At the login screen, I select my user, enter the password, the mouse works fine
at this point.
Click on login, wait, screen comes up then at random, the mouse either
works fine (about 1 time in 5) or it goes really really slow (4 times out of 5).

Only way I'm working around it is to reboot (usually 5 times ish) till
it decides to work.

As a test manager by trade I would say this is a P3 at least not a P4,
as it's definitely a functional issue not cosmetic, albeit with an
untidy workaround (many reboots).

I'm running 4.15.0-52-lowlatency #56-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 4
23:39:39 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'll post contents of lshw and lspci, let me know if you need more.

[Bug 1802321] Re: libdvd-pkg: `apt-get check` failed, you may have broken packages. Aborting...

2018-12-17 Thread Vince Marinelli
This issue impacted me as well on a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 install. I
encountered this when I attempted to install ubuntu-restricted-extras.

The work-around provided (sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg) corrected
the issue.

2018-02-26 Thread Vince N
Download attached dockerfile and build a docker image
$ docker build -t snmptest:latest .

Start snmpd container:
$ docker run --name snmpd --rm -it snmptest:latest

Run the snmpbulkget in another ephemeral container:
$ docker run --network="container:snmpd" --rm -it snmptest:latest \
snmpbulkget -v2c -c public -Cn1 -Cr1 -Os localhost
HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWInstalledTable

Result:
hrSWInstalledIndex.0 = INTEGER: 0

If these steps are not good enough for your processes I can try to
reproduce it from a 17.10 virtual machine.

[Bug 1689005] [NEW] No way of completely disabling the sensitive zone over buttons

2017-05-06 Thread Vince-Rev
Public bug reported:

This bug is related to this question:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/905348/really-disable-touchpad-over-the-
button-region

Currently, on my laptop, I found no way of completely disabling the
sensitive region over buttons (both movement and touch). Which means
that if I use two hands: one to move, and one to click, as soon as my
"click hand" touch (without clicking) the sensitive region over the
buttons of my touchpad while moving, the pointer stops and the touchpad
switch to the two-finger mode. It would be very nice to have an option,
to COMPLETELY disable the sensitive region over buttons as if they were
physically distinct, like on olders touchpads.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but I tore my achilles and my
priorities were in getting healthy which will be taking a long time.
Anyway, what exactly do you mean by a "fresh reboot"?. Do you mean wipe

Thank you,

[Bug 1235567] Re: ibus-ui-gtk3 crashed with SIGABRT

2015-01-01 Thread Vince
From upstream bug :
It seems you have a bug from the previous internal patch.
Please run 'ibus reset-config' and 'ibus restart' command.

At least it looks like this fixed the bug for me.

(also this may be fixed upstream, see
https://github.com/ibus/ibus/commit/bb818e438599f080a0cffb0b7573d9a646cf3b1a)

[Bug 1307917] Re: installing driver hangs indefinitely

2014-09-23 Thread vince
I also have the same problem when adding a epson px720wd networkprinter.
When i use controlpaneladd printer, the installation keeps hanging
arond 50%.

I tried the suggestion made by Bruno Nova (brunonova) wrote on 2014-06-18:
However, I then removed the Epson driver, then the Epson repository and key
(using Software Updates) and refreshed the cache.
Then I tried to install the printer again, this time by executing the
system-config-printer command from the terminal -- The installation succeeded.
The scanner is also working.

I also tried to install the printer on netrunner 14.04, via system-
settingsadd printer. the printer installed correctly.

[Bug 1323877] Re: gksudo slow with two monitors

2014-09-05 Thread Vince Marinelli
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 152855 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152855

I am also experiencing this issue running a dual-monitor setup. I have
found two workarounds that may be clues to the origin of the issue:

1) CTRL-ALT_F1 to get to terminal then CTRL-ALT-F7 to return to x
session. Password prompt appears immediately.

2) use --disable-grab mode of gksu / gksudo. gksudo -g gedit works as
expected.

[Bug 329437] Re: snd_usb_us122l is not working even if supported from kernel.

2014-08-20 Thread Tito Vince
Hello there,

Trying to set up my good old Tascam US-122L again on a fresh Ubuntu Studio.
I got it running with older Ubuntus, but it seems that the bug is back again
with Linux 3.x

Actually this is 3.13.0-34-lowlatency, I've apt-installed alsa-firware-
loader, snd-usb-122l is available, but nothing showing in
/proc/asound/cards or /proc/asound/modules.

I've created ~/.asoundrc with :
pcm.!usb_stream {
@args [ CARD ]
@args.CARD {
type string
default 1
}
type usb_stream
card $CARD
}

ctl.!usb_stream {
@args [ CARD ]
@args.CARD {
type string
default 1
}
type hw
card $CARD
}

cat /proc/asound/modules:
 0 snd_hda_intel

cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [Intel] : HDA-INTEL - HDA Intel
   HDA Intel at 0xf070 irq 44

When I plug it in I can see all the leds flashing for 0.1 sec and then nothing.
What shall I do?
Thanks

[Bug 436946] Re: xbattbar-check-apm crashed with SIGSEGV in vfprintf()

2014-05-17 Thread Vince Zhao
so suprise that this bug is not fixed for sooo long.
fixed by just include string.h

so add this line to xbattbar-check-apm.c:
#include string.h

however, even this helps preventing xbattbar from crash, it still won't read
battary status correctly,
but you can pass a script to read the status:

here is what i have:

#!/bin/sh
echo ac_line=$(acpi | grep Discharging -q -s  echo 'off' || echo 'on')
echo battery=$(acpi | sed 's/.*, \([0-9]*\)%, .*/\1/g' | head -n1)

[Bug 1314760] [NEW] first hrSWInstalledIndex is 0, should be 1

2014-04-30 Thread Vince N
Public bug reported:

According to RFC 2790 the hrSWInstalledIndex should start at 1:

  hrSWInstalledIndex OBJECT-TYPE
   SYNTAX Integer32 (1..2147483647)
   MAX-ACCESS read-only
   STATUS current
   DESCRIPTION
   A unique value for each piece of software installed
   on the host. This value shall be in the range from 1
   to the number of pieces of software installed on the
   host.
   ::= { hrSWInstalledEntry 1 }

However, when grabbing the hrSWInstalledTable, my first entry is at index 0.
Example:
$ snmpbulkget -v2c -c public -Cn1 -Cr1 -ObentU localhost 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3
.1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 0

For a CentOS 6 host the behavior is according to spec:
$ snmpbulkget -v2c -c public -Cn1 -Cr1 -ObentU centos6_srv.example.com
1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3
.1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3.1.1.1 = INTEGER: 1

I found this issue while trying to read HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfTable
with pysnmp, but kept getting an exception:
ConstraintsIntersection(ConstraintsIntersection(ConstraintsIntersection(),
ValueRangeConstraint(-2147483648, 2147483647)), ValueRangeConstraint(1,

[Bug 1314760] [NEW] first hrSWInstalledIndex is 0, should be 1

2014-04-30 Thread Vince N
Public bug reported:

According to RFC 2790 the hrSWInstalledIndex should start at 1:

  hrSWInstalledIndex OBJECT-TYPE
   SYNTAX Integer32 (1..2147483647)
   MAX-ACCESS read-only
   STATUS current
   DESCRIPTION
   A unique value for each piece of software installed
   on the host. This value shall be in the range from 1
   to the number of pieces of software installed on the
   host.
   ::= { hrSWInstalledEntry 1 }

However, when grabbing the hrSWInstalledTable, my first entry is at index 0.
Example:
$ snmpbulkget -v2c -c public -Cn1 -Cr1 -ObentU localhost 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3
.1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 0

For a CentOS 6 host the behavior is according to spec:
$ snmpbulkget -v2c -c public -Cn1 -Cr1 -ObentU centos6_srv.example.com
1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3
.1.3.6.1.2.1.25.6.3.1.1.1 = INTEGER: 1

[Bug 1273485] [NEW] Publishing ESyS-Particle 2.3 in Ubuntu Trusty Tahr

2014-01-27 Thread Vince Boros
Public bug reported:

The ESyS-Particle development team has recently released ESyS-Particle
2.3, incorporating an update to render the code compatible with
simulation scripts written in Python 3.x and a major bug-fix (the 2.2.2
release has this bug) involving moments of inertia. Would the Ubuntu
development team be willing to create a new package of ESyS-Particle 2.3
for Trusty Tahr (14.04 LTS) to replace the current 2.2.u2-2ubuntu4?

[Bug 1207812] Re: [Sony VGN-SR29XN_S] Iphone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-03 Thread Vince Stratful
I just installed 1.1.6 from the github repo. It works better, but isn't
perfect. My iPad shows up on my desktop and there is no trust loop, but
full functionality isn't restored and I'm unable to open my device.

This is just going to be a case of waiting til libimobiledevice is
functional again, I don't believe there's anything for Ubuntu to do on
this issue except wait.

[Bug 1067801] Re: Touchpad is misdetected as a PS/2 Mouse on a Fujitsu A512

2013-10-31 Thread Vince
Hi again,

 There is finally a working patch for this hardware available at
http://marc.info/?l=linux-inputm=138235576025208w=1
I tested it on my A512 and everything works fine. It looks like the patch was
also tested on other hardware by Fedora testers and works fine (see
http://marc.info/?l=linux-inputm=138253695519603w=1 ).
It would be very nice to have this fix backported to ubuntu precise. Thanks !

[Bug 1229195] Re: Openconnect will not connect under Saucy -- openssl problem?

2013-10-18 Thread Vince N
From the --dump-http output, it seems that the XML transaction is
selecting incorrect tunnel-group and group-alias.

I attempted to patch a --no-xmlpost option into network-manager-
openconnect, but in the process I figured out a strange workaround...

I am currently instructing my Ubuntu 13.10 users to press the 'connect'
button in network-manager-openconnect TWICE RAPIDLY. For some reason,
after the SSL socket is closed unexpectedly during the first connection
attempt, the second attempt doesn't use XML Post, and authentication
succeeds.

[Bug 1238632] [NEW] missing ia32-libs

2013-10-11 Thread vince
Public bug reported:

I tried to install a program (CEWE Fotoboek) which is depending on ia32-libs. I
encourded this problem also with some other programs. Will the ia32-libs be
available in the repositories?
If not is there a solution?

[Bug 1067801] Re: Touchpad is misdetected as a PS/2 Mouse on a Fujitsu A512

2013-08-12 Thread Vince
Hi Christopher, from my current knowledge the bug still exists in
upstream kernels (this laptop unfortunately has a Dolphin v2
touchpad)... You added a cherry-pick tag, do you have a patch ready
that I could test ?
