[Bug 742999] [NEW] Kubuntu performance get's really bad after awhile

2011-03-26 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I had installed Kubuntu because in the past I used to use this system
always, but because im a MCST I needed use Windows during studies, so I
didnt use Kubuntu for some time, but still longed back to the KDE
desktop and the stable Kubuntu, however this doesnt seem the case with
mine system now, with just normall use it gets slow after awhile.

Here's some information about mine system:

Dell Studio 1558
Intel i3 M330
4GB Memory
5400rpm harddrive ( I know this is the slowest part in mine computer, however
even Windows runs fine with this harddrive )
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4500 series

I do suspect xorg, because it seems to use most cpu, but i'm not sure
what causes mine computer to lag, and its really frustrating, if someone
has a idea off this cause please let it know, because im traveling in
asia i dont have so much time to look into things, but if i have time I
will let know more details if you guys help me collect them.

You may see it as a Opinion, but this is real, the slowdown and lagging
was really happen, so I would like to try to get it fixed? So if you
guys give some help finding the cause then it would be appreciated, as
labeling it as a opinion won't fix the problem, as its exist real.

[Bug 742999] Re: Kubuntu performance get's really bad after awhile

2011-03-26 Thread Wesley Velroij
Okay i will define slow: It means almost un useable, because its
lagging, applications will reaction horrible slow, and this seems to
happen after awhile.

One thing I noticed though, the computer also got very hot. I don't
mean to be rude, but this not a question, this is clearly a software
problem and it sounds to arrogant off you to make it a opinion, because
even my girlfriend could just see that computer just started get slow,
horrible and that applications would be slow.

Its because off the reputation off Kubuntu that i'm very disapointed in
this, this is Linux, people always bash Windows because it gets slow
after some weeks, well mine Kubuntu gets slow after few hours off use,
so not days, or weeks or months, even Windows 7 performance way better.

And I think its a serious problem, but it not get taking serious here
and you also not give some instructions what i should check, like I know
in some logs there could be information.

Its because im on travel i can not do much on internet and the next
Kubuntu release is not stable enough yet, so I can not yet test if this
problem will be in the next release, so it will probably mean as soon as
i get home i will put Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium back on, because
the current version off Kubuntu does not work well on mine Dell Studio
15.

[Bug 422812] [NEW] Kspread exits when opening .ksp document with error: Segmentation Fault (memory dump created)

2009-09-01 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

When trying to open a existing .ksp document which I created early this
day, which is a important document which was supposed to open when I
need to check my calculations, but kspread will exit/crash when I try

This is all information Konsole gave me, translate it says: Segmentation Fault

I don't know where this memory dump is and what to do with, and I am
asuming its a bug in Kubuntu 9.10, but this is the latest koffice beta
which just released.

froze, I ssh'ed into it. Surprise! It worked.

It turns out that this is not a kernel freeze. Mouse moves but Caps lock
does not respond. In the ssh session, I went into top and htop. Nothing
suspicious at all, in fact, there's no cpu usage at all! I do even know
what to go on.

Then I theorized that this is a graphics hardware problem. I went to
test this out by restarting GDM. This little bit of kernel log is what
you get:

[ 723.628131] [drm:i915_gem_idle] *ERROR* hardware wedged

[Bug 327509] Re: Kernel freezing on both ext3 and ext4, possible criminal is Firefox

2009-04-22 Thread Wesley Velroij
Hello,

Mark Shuttleworth, congratz at releasing a unstable (K)ubuntu 9.04, with
5 freezes this isnt stable at all, this bug needs serious attention, the
guys above me have found usefull information, but still no one pays
attention to this bug report, ive tested it on various possible things,
first I testes it by installing Jaunty with ext3 and the same happend.

After that I tested to see if Firefox was the one causing it, It seemed
it was firefox, but that it wasnt firefox, because later I didnt run
firefox, only Konqueror and still it freezed, after that I compiled kde
from trunk, I had freezes when doing so, so I had to install Gnome,
because my kde was broken, and build folders messed up.

So I see this as a serious problem and it should get high importance,
because Ubuntu 9.04 is not stable when bug like these are still around,
oh its clear this bug in in xorg.

Guys what for Video cards do you have? I have intel gma 945 on a Intel
Atom 330, I going pin point this bug to xorg.

Problem hasnt come up anymore here since I compiled the kde-trunk, but
theres no saying that, the problem was in the kde packages,

But it isnt firefox who caused it, anyway I dont have any problems

2009-04-14 Thread Wesley Velroij
I am installing Mandriva 2009.1 rc2, and it gives me the option, Use EXA
in place of XAA ( Better performance for rendering and composite )

So that means EXA would be better? I dont know wgat UXA is, but Mandriva
has reputation off one off the best hardware support under Linux.

[Bug 361291] [NEW] regressions in kde4.2.2

2009-04-14 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Hello, when I use Kubuntu, and sometimes there comes regressions in
windows, when I hover with mouse over it it dissapears, but this happens
quite often, but I dont know how to reproduce it, though I didnt see it
in a other kde4.2 distro, only in Kubuntu.

I though it was because kubuntu uses Qt 4.5, but thats what I think, I
remember that this wasnt there when the alpha´s used 4.4.

2009-01-16 Thread Wesley Velroij
Just adding the patch to kernel is to much to ask? I can't test anymore
because if i apply the patch the rest of my kernel would be messed up.
Ubuntu has some much testing, why not test it? Release a Kernel for
testers and voila?

[Bug 317192] [NEW] un-userfriendly bug, bug reporting apport application

2009-01-14 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

When something crashes or people wanna report a bug, apport fails
because, it doesnt have everthing what a bug report needs, i i look from
user friendly then this is a bug about the user friendly from apport, me
as Kubuntu user would expect that apport just collects what it needs,
and if it doesn't have what it needs it will install debugging symbols
or what package apport needs to report the bug.

The reality is like this, apport want to report a bug, but gets a error
because it hasn't all the stuff for the bug its need, as far as i know
this makes it hard for developers to fix bug, for example Juk crashed,
so i need to report a bug as Newbie, so i report and collect info, but
theres no debugging symbols, so I as newbie need to search those
debugging symbols in order to give the developer a useful bug report.

In this point Ubuntu doesn't add anything useful for kde, because kde
bugs just get ignored, lucky i know that, i report directly to kde, but
a normal user wouldn't know that, and thats bad for Kubuntu, so I
wouldn't mind if Kubuntu gets same attention from Ubuntu, this is where
I will get the next bug report.

[Bug 317198] [NEW] Kubuntu deserve same attention as Ubuntu

2009-01-14 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

As we KDE users know, Kubuntu is just plain default KDE, And it seems we
are not getting the attention we deserve, for example, lets take ubuntu
8.10 and kubuntu 8.10 live cd, i can name directly what ubuntu has more
then Kubuntu, A live usb creator? Hello Ubuntu developers, why wont we
get that?

Next is gparted? Where is KDE partitionmanager in Kubuntu? Or Qtparted?
And then we have the daily live, why does Kubuntu not has that? Are we
Limburg? and Ubuntu the norther part off the Netherlands? What i mean
its clear we dont get the attention we deserve, and that not good for
the relationship between ubuntu and kubuntu users.

So mark, if you read that, sell another website and don't go in space,
and recruit some more KDE developers for Kubuntu, Because Kubuntu
deserve that.

How to reproduce, go to the mirrors and you wont see a kubuntu daily
live, pick the 8.10 ubuntu live cd put it in your pc, and see that you
have a live usb creator tool, and gparted.

Next you going use the Kubuntu live cd and you going see that none off
these tools are there, and i believe its only a small amount i named.

This bug is very critical, and needs fixing ( Maby about 3 releases
kubuntu will have the live usb creator )

[Bug 315926] [NEW] [Kubuntu 9.04 alpha2 ] when installing Kubuntu grub didnt add my osx to boot list.

2009-01-10 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Hello i have a Intel Mac, and on partition /dev/sda1 is osx 10.5.6
installed, so i decided that i would install next to it Kubuntu, i
asumed that Kubuntu would have find osx and added it, but it didnt do
that, so now i am adding it manual, but i still see this as a bug.

[Bug 315934] [NEW] [Kubuntu 9.04 alpha 2 ] Intel i950 ( Intel® 945GC ) poor kwin performanc e

2009-01-10 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Hello when using Kubuntu 9.04 alpha 2, i see that kwin performance
really slow, also there are some regressions ive discovered, on is at
the desktop effects where you can select plug-ins.

How to reproduce, i don't know how to collect data but i can see kwin
performance by using the tool that you can activate at desktop effects.

When i minimize or use cover switch i see going Kwin in the red, it also
go's in the red when i don't do such actions, but their is clearly a
performance issues.

How to reproduce the regression, open systemsettings desktop desktop
effects and scroll the efects list down.

[Bug 314889] [NEW] [Kubuntu 9.04 alpha 2 ] fails to enable sound device on start on

2009-01-07 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

I believe when i apply todays updates, there was also a kernel update,
and when i restarted i got a error like this: failed to enable HDA Intel
(AlC662 Analog ), switching to pulse audio,

So after that message i see my sound muted, but i could unmute it and
put the sound on, so it looked that there was othing wrong, but when i
started vlc to play a movie i didnt hear any sound, when i used
Dragonplayer i heard sound.

SystemsettingMultimedia says the HDA Intel is working, but i gues non
kde apps dont know that,

[Bug 314914] [NEW] [Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 2] Does Ubuntu select the right drivers?

2009-01-07 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Acording to the information that Intel provides on their website about
the intel D945GCLF2 with atom 330, it should have a Intel® 945GC
Express Chipset, and it uses for video the Intel® Graphics Media
Accelerator 950, so i dont which driver ubuntu uses for this device,
because there no grapical user interface to point the vga driver, KDE4.2
only handles screen resolution, no chaning of drivers for vga.

http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945gclf2/D945gclf2-overview.htm

But when i look into hardware plasmoid i see this:

CPU:Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 @ 1.60GHz
GPU:Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Audio: HDA Intel (ALC662 Analog)
Audio: HDA Intel (ALC662 Digital)
Audio: HDA Intel ()
Netwerk:Loopback device Interface
Netwerk:Bridge Interface
Netwerk:Networking Interface

So it seems that Ubuntu sees it as a different device? or am i wrong
here? I just hope the performance overall of intel gma would improve,
because it seems xorg has serieus performance issius with intel gma''s.

This is the result i get when running glxgears

wes...@dexter:~$ glxgears

138 frames in 5.0 seconds = 27.444 FPS

34 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6.743 FPS
77 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15.251 FPS
138 frames in 5.0 seconds = 27.570 FPS

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0
after 7977 requests (7766 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
wes...@dexter:~$

I have enabled kwin desktop effects, and seems overall okay, but i believe that
the performance could be better, i think i just dont ask much, but there is
probably a serieus bug, and i ask you please go investigate this, there are
more bugs like this on, and none is important enough acording to ubuntu to be
fixed as fast as possible, i know that 9.04 is unstable but thats just why we
should get things have stable in less then 4 month, he intel issues is already
there since 8.10, it was reported about slow performance on gma 965, it seems
this is on more gma''s from intel and could be a bug in xorg itself.

  the intel D945GCLF2 with atom 330, it should have a Intel® 945GC
Express Chipset, and it uses for video the Intel® Graphics Media
Accelerator 950, so i dont which driver ubuntu uses for this device,
because there no grapical user interface to point the vga driver, KDE4.2
only handles screen resolution, no chaning of drivers for vga.

But when i look into hardware plasmoid i see this:

  CPU: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 @ 1.60GHz
GPU: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

  Audio:HDA Intel (ALC662 Digital)
  Audio:HDA Intel ()
  Netwerk: Loopback device Interface
  Netwerk: Bridge Interface
  Netwerk: Networking Interface

So it seems that Ubuntu sees it as a different device? or am i wrong
here? I just hope the performance overall of intel gma would improve,
because it seems xorg has serieus performance issius with intel gma''s.

[Bug 312583] [NEW] [Kubuntu 8.10][KDE4.2.BETA2] Display locks automatic, when watching a movie ect

2008-12-30 Thread Wesley Velroij
Public bug reported:

Hello, when i am watching a movie on VLC ( Don´t know if this happings
on Dragonplayer ), then after awhile my screenlocks and screensaver
popups and screen gets locked, i don´t know if this is KDE4.2 related,
or ubuntu, because i found another bug claiming exact the same problem,
but that was under Totem and not VLC, this is happing since awhile, i
have sorted al kind off settings, and they seem to be fine, i had
disabled my screensaver, but that didnt work.

Going see if it works when i enabled screensaver and set timer on 200 min, but
still this seems a bug, that is still not fixed, you can reproduce the bug
easy, just watch a video around 40 min, it happend 2 times in this 40 min by
me, so i gues it happens every 15 min?

I believe this is related to Kubuntu, i can be wrong ofcourse.

This is what i did when it happend, i put movie in full screen, go
watch, dont touch a mouse and after a while flop, screensaver and screen
gets locked.

Found this on KDE bugs, it seems to be a setting in Powerdevil, so i
think to fix it that we would disable it standard? Because most normal
users dont come across that setting.

sudo apt-get install build-essential

if you have installed build essential then you can install the fix, just
open the map in konsole and do make sudo make install and then restart
and you have your wlan.

[Bug 252094] Re: [i965] Poor graphics performance and rendering errors on Intel GM965 system, Ubuntu 8.10

2008-12-19 Thread Wesley Velroij
Having here the same problem in KDE4.2 , i have enabled desktop effects
and when i run glxgears i only get 100 fps max, its really making a bad
reputation for kde4.2, because the performance of the intel gma x3100
isnt fully used.

Hope this will get fixed.
