Thank you. For firefox this works, for Chrome it doesn't. But I'll use
firefox, so I'm ok now. Thanks.

[Bug 1970459] [NEW] import of ca-certificate in browser does not work

2022-04-26 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

I tried to import a CA root certificate into both Firefox and Chrome. In
Firefox, the import button just didn't do anything, in Chrome pressing
"import" hangs up the browser. This means I can't reach the intranet of
the company I work for.

[Bug 1875402] Re: Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 crashed my computer

2020-05-08 Thread Xtien
Yes, it uses LVM, and no, it was not encrypted. I wanted it to be
encrypted when I installed 16.04, but it turned out disk encryption is
not compatible with a raid array. Or if it is, there were bugs that made
it impossible to use both.

[Bug 1875402] Re: Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 crashed my computer

2020-04-28 Thread Xtien
I could not reinstall ubuntu over the current installation.
I ran fschk -y with a live cd (flash), it found one bit in one file that it
fixed.
Then I installed 20.04 replacing the already installed 20.04, which went well.
Didn't lose data, had to reinstall some software.

I realize I should have tried to boot the system after the fschck fix, I
forgot.

When the crash happened during the release-upgrade, I had a Chrome
browser open and a file window. I may have done something at precisely
the wrong moment, causing the crash.

[Bug 1875402] [NEW] Upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04 crashed my computer

2020-04-27 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

I was running 18.04, I recently upgraded from 16.04, on my desktop
computer. I decided to upgrade to 20.04 not waiting for point release
because my computer kept crashing on a kernel issue when I was running
Intellij Idea.

During the upgrade (do-release-upgrade) my computer crashed, after
restart it said it couldn't read a disk. It wouldn't start, it wouldn't
start with the previous kernel (4.15) nor with the pre-previous.

I haven't done a complete reinstall yet, I'm first backing up files, to
make sure the latest files are in the backup. Then I'll try some more to
get the thing running.

There is a bug nr 1874667 but I don't think that's the same: it says
"upgrade keeps crashing", I can't run the upgrade again because my pc
won't start at all, other than using an Ubuntu live disk (flash).

Please advise what I can do to fix the system, or what to do to provide
you with better info. I can't include files because I'm on another
computer now.

The computer was on 4.15, I downloaded a new 20.04 today, that is 5.03 or
something?

[Bug 1847047] Re: 19.10 Beta won't boot after grub

2019-12-05 Thread Xtien
I have a XPS 15 (7590), Intel® Core™ i9-9980HK (16 MB cache, tot 5,0 GHz, 8
cores).
I installed Ubuntu 19.04, then upgraded when 19.10 became available. On Nov 18
there was a bios upgrade. This morning, the laptop wouldn't boot. I can type
the disk password, than there's a flash and a black screen, and nothing. It's
my work laptop, so I went home to use another computer, don't have time right
now to see what's wrong.
I'm planning to do a fresh install of 19.04 this weekend. Unless there's
something else I can try.

[Bug 1850931] [NEW] screen corruption after sleep mode

2019-11-01 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

When my laptop goes into sleep mode, and I log back in, the screen is
corrupted. I wanted to report with ubuntu-bug, but that doesn't open a browser
window so it doesn't report a bug.
I'll attach a screenshot of the corrupted screen. It stays corrupted until I
restart the computer. The laptop is a new Dell XPS 15 with a GEforce GTX 1650
card.
I use Ubuntu 19.04.

[Bug 1787197] Re: Touchpad doesn't work well after upgrade to 18.04

2018-09-05 Thread Xtien
I installed the linux-image-etc file for 4.18, then the linux-headers file
installation says "no space left on device". Before, I had removed every file
of previous kernels and installations, I only have 4.15.34 files in /boot.
I wanted to increase the size of the boot partition because that's an issue on
every linux update, but as my disk is encrypted, that's a lot of work. Sorry.

On Ubuntu until 16.04, I could update by removing old kernels from
/boot. Now, the files seem to have gotten to big for even keeping the
active kernel.

** Description changed:

I upgraded my laptop (Dell XPS 13, older version) to 18.04. Now the touchpad
doesn't work, unless I hit it very hard. How do I increase the sensitivity of
the touchpad so I can use it like I've always done? It always worked well,

I don't know what package the touchpad is in, so I didn't use ubuntu-bug. The
apport-collect doesn't work now. What do I do?

** Description changed:

I upgraded my laptop (Dell XPS 13, older version) to 18.04. Now the touchpad
doesn't work, unless I hit it very hard. How do I increase the sensitivity of
the touchpad so I can use it like I've always done? It always worked well,
until the upgrade.

[Bug 1316349] Re: screen doesn't turn off after ctrl-L manual lock

I'm running 16.04 now, the bug still exists. Also, when I press ctrl-L,
the screens do go to sleep, but then after half an hour, switch back on
again and stay on for the rest of the night.

[Bug 1682193] Re: Mouse acceleration significantly reduced after upgrade to 17.04

2017-06-26 Thread Xtien
As for the severity of the bug: the slower your mouse, the more you have
to move your wrist and arm to move the pointer. Moving your arm and
wrist instead of leaving your hand still on your wrist pad increases the
risk of carpal tunnel syndrome.

[Bug 1691417] Re: nautilus "other locations" hangs

2017-06-16 Thread Xtien
I have upgraded my laptop to 17.04 and I still see the bug: "connect to

to/from other computers in my network. Desktop computer and other laptop
run older versions of Ubuntu, no issues with connecting to other
computers.

[Bug 1572304] Re: Modified column in File Manager (Files) does not display time

2017-05-23 Thread Xtien
In 16.10 there is a separate option "Modified-Time" now. This option
doesn't allow you to change the time format. I find "Yesterday 18:03"
not the best format. I'd prefer "2017-05-23 18:03"

[Bug 1567818] [NEW] appearance of nautilus is wrong

2016-04-08 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

I used to have a nautilus window with a menu in the title bar. After the
last update, I got a nautilus window with no menu in the title bar, but
instead an arrow down button on the top right. Also, the characters in
all windows are more pixelated than I'm used to. I found that I can
resolve this by changing the theme to Radiance, log out, log in, change
the theme back to Ambiance. Then I have better characters and the right
Nautilus appearance. Every time I reboot my computer, I have to do this.

[Bug 1548259] [NEW] window with no content, transparent

2016-02-22 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

Frequently when a window pops up, it is transparent, it has no content.
This happens a lot with Thunderbird and with Gimp, also in Eclipse. The
file I attached is a screenshot of a popup in Eclipse. It has no
content, instead it shows the Eclipse editor that's behind it.

[Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-02-02 Thread Xtien
I have been working with no problems since Jan. 20. Today an Ubuntu
update wanted me to reboot, then after reboot the computer froze when I
started Android Studio. Rebooted again, same, and again. What seems to
help is when I type

IBUS_ENABLE_SYNC_MODE=1 ibus-daemon -xrd
(from here: http://tools.android.com/knownissues/ibus)

I'm not sure if this actually works, but now I disabled ibus and I have
no freeze. The issue they report is different from what I see. For now,
I'll just never reboot my computer. I hope someone is working on the
bug. If there's anything I can do, let me know.

[Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-01-20 Thread Xtien
My computer hasn't frozen in over a week. I haven't rebooted, until this
morning when an Ubuntu update wanted me to reboot. Now the freeze issue
is back, seemingly worse than before. 3 reboots didn't change this.

I noted that in "System Monitor", CPU2 gets stuck at 100%. However, when
I type "top" in a shell, total cpu use is under 3%.

[Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-01-20 Thread Xtien
Today I tried the daily build of Ubuntu 16.04, from a live cd usb.
Nouveau worked fine, but I can't seem to run Android Studio on a live
cd, so I couldn't test the freeze issue. There was a problem with java.
Maybe I should create a live cd usb with a large disk space, so I can
install java and as on that. I tried to run android studio from the
harddisk, that I had mounted.

[Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-01-14 Thread Xtien
I tested Nouveau with the standard iso from the ubuntu site. Should I
test with the daily build?

Currently, I don't have any issues, after rebooting after testing with Nouveau.
I hesitate to test right now, I'd like to get some work done first, I"m afraid
that rebooting will give me freezes again.
I'll see what I can do with testing nouveau from a daily build.

[Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-01-12 Thread Xtien
Nouveau makes it worse. When I start Android Studio, Firefox immediately grays
out, AS stops loading before it even opens a window. Then the computer remains
frozen, until I stop java processes in a shell.
Also, I don't see how a graphics issue can make CPU2 or CPU3 hang, but never
one of the other CPUs.

It can't be just a bug in Android Studio, because AS should not be
capable of hanging up my computer. Also, it can't be just a bug in
Ubuntu or in the bios or cpu, because it only happens with Android
Studio (except once in gedit and once in a shell). I suspect AS does
something other software doesn't do, which triggers a glitch elsewhere.

Yesterday night, I ran Prime95 software to calculate Mersenne prime numbers.
This kept my cpus at 500% with low priority processes. All software would still
run normally, not slower, but AS wouldn't run. It pushed prime to using over
600%, which is weird, and it wouldn't start, just hang until killed.
I tried Prime95 because they found a glitch in Intel Skylake cpus. My cpu is
5th generation, not Skylake.

2016-01-11 Thread Xtien
Oh, I'm sorry. A while ago I re-opened a bug, then I was told I should
file a separate bug instead. Never mind.

I haven't tried this particular bug with nouveau. The reason I use
Nvidia drivers is that I couldn't get my system to work with nouveau. I
used to use nouveau until about a year ago. If you want me to try, I can
try. In my experience it's a lot of work, especially if screens don't
work after restart with nouveau.

[Bug 1531845] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-01-11 Thread Xtien
Fyi, the bug didn't occur between the first boot with the new bios, and
the first reboot after that. I rebooted just to see if that wouldn't
bring back the bug. I usually don't reboot that often. I checked the
overclock rate, it's at "no overclock" (i.e. 100%).

[Bug 1532901] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2016-01-11 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

10 minutes after bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1531845 was closed, it
happened again. CPU3 went to 100%, Firefox grayed out (I was watching tv in
firefox while building a project in Android Studio) until I typed "killall -9
java".
Apparently, upgrading my bios to 1.8 didn't help.

While one cpu was taking 100% permanently, "top" showed Xorg at ~40% and
nothing else being active.

Christopher,

you're a darling!

I updated the bios to 1.8, and I managed to build my project in Android
Studio a number of times without any freezes. That's more than I've been
able to do in the last four or so months. As I have thought the problem
had gone before, can we keep the bug open for another few days? I'll let
you know, soon as I went through 48 hours without a "100% cpu freeze",
you can close the bug.
I'm really happy.

Where can I send the flowers? (in Amsterdam, that's what you send people
when you're grateful).

[Bug 1515711] Re: lightdm hangs, windows freeze, lightdm restart helps most of the times.

2016-01-06 Thread Xtien
I am still experiencing this issue. Not just with Android Studio, it also
happened when loading a file in Gedit. CPU2 goes to 100% and stays there, while
Gedit or AS stops responding. In the System Monitor "Processes" tab, no
processes are taking more than 1 or 2% of a CPU. The process that froze has 0%,
but >600Mb memory usage. The process unfreezes typically after 5 minutes.
Almost always it's cpu2, once it was 9, occasionally it's cpu3.
I have a 6core cpu, 16G of memory.

When I reported this, I was on Ubuntu 15.04. I don't know the version of
apport, I update Ubuntu whenever there's an update, so I suppose I had
the latest apport for 15.04 at that date.

[Bug 1515711] Re: lightdm hangs, windows freeze, lightdm restart helps most of the times.

2015-11-17 Thread Xtien
Downgrading solved part of the issue. Android Studio manages to keep one
CPU busy for 100% for up to five minutes, during which tme other
programs stop responding too. But then, when AS stops using that CPU,
all is back to normal. For fifteen minutes or so. I don't think Android
Studio should be capable of hanging up my UI by using just one CPU.

2015-11-13 Thread Xtien
Downgrading to Android Studio 1.4RC3 solved the issue. The problem is in
AS, apparently, but still, an application should not be able to hang up
the whole computer.

I did notice that when AS hangs, I can continue to use firefox and other
apps, until I hit an icon in the Unity bar. Then the system hangs as a
whole.

[Bug 1515711] [NEW] lightdm hangs, windows freeze, lightdm restart helps most of the times.

2015-11-12 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

Since a few days, when I use Android Studio, my screens freeze. Nothing
works. With alt-crtrl-F2 I log in to a shell window, restart lightdm,
then it works. Except on the last freeze, now I had to restart the
computer. When restarting lightdm, a popup said "system in low graphics
res, cannot detect your settings".

I have reported the but to Android Studio developers. But a program,
even a big one like an IDE, should not be able to crash my computer.
