[Bug 2058047] Re: On Dell Latitude ??90, versions 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 of the kernel hang upon accessing wired Ethernet
It seems that the issue is related to the Wi-Fi card and the iwlwifi driver. It can be fixed by installing the linux-modules-iwlwifi-generic / linux-modules-iwlwifi-generic-hwe-22.04 package, respectively. Also, the issue seems to only pop up on Dell Latitude ??90 laptops (confirmed on Latitude 7490 and 5590). ** Summary changed: - Versions 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 of the kernel hang upon accessing the Intel Ethernet controller (4) I219-LM [8086:15d7] (rev 21) + On Dell Latitude ??90, versions 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 of the kernel hang upon accessing wired Ethernet ** Summary changed: - On Dell Latitude ??90, versions 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 of the kernel hang upon accessing wired Ethernet + On Dell Latitude ??90, versions 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 of the kernel hang upon accessing wired Ethernet unless linux-modules-iwlwifi-generic is installed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058047 Title: On Dell Latitude ??90, versions 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 of the kernel hang upon accessing wired Ethernet unless linux-modules-iwlwifi- generic is installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2058047/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: The system hangs with Linux 5.15.0-100 and 6.5.0-25 upon accessing this Ethernet controller: $ lspci -nn ... 00:1f.6 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Ethernet Connection (4) I219-LM [8086:15d7] (rev 21) Commands that deal with the network hang forever, e.g. "ip link". The machine must be hard-rebooted (magic sysrq) because systemd also hangs during reboot. Previous versions work perfectly fine (5.15.0-97 and 6.5.0-21). The issue is specific to the integrated network controller, because it goes away when the Ethernet controller is disabled in the BIOS. [Bug 2056665] [NEW] systemd-xdg-autostart-generator-ed service does not correctly run script that detaches a subprocess
Public bug reported: I have a script that basically does ``` #! /usr/bin/bash sleep 5 thunderbird & ``` and an appropriate desktop file in .~/.config/autostart to run it. Since upgrading from Plasma 5.24 to 5.27 (from the backports PPA), this no longer works. The script is run (added logging, eg. with systemd-cat, prove it) but Thunderbird does not appear. However, it does work if I change it to the following. ``` #! /usr/bin/bash sleep 5 thunderbird ``` So I suspect this is related to how systemd-xdg-autostart-generator runs the associated service. I tried various combinations like ``kstart5 thunderbird & disown``, to no avail. Note this script is an MWE example ; my actual script is more convoluted and needs subprocess detachment to work properly. Plasma 5.24 did not exhibit this behaviour. I do not know if it was using systemd-xdg-autostart-generator to manage autostart. Current systemd version is 249.11-0ubuntu3.12, which is too old to report upstream about. [Bug 1930754] Re: e1000e extremly slow
Hi, I'm the one who created the post on AskUbuntu. In the certification, it appears that the Latitude 5420 is equipped with Intel I219-V ethernet cards, but this is not the case on ours, which are equipped with Intel I219-LM cards, maybe it's a clue? Here is the kernels I've tested : - 5.8.0-43-generic (fresh install from Ubuntu 20.04.2 iso) - 5.8.0-55-generic (upgrade from Ubuntu 20.04.2 iso) - 5.6.0-1032-oem (fresh install from Dell 20.04.1 iso) - 5.10.0-1029-oem (upgrade from Dell 20.04.1 iso) - 5.11.0-16-generic (fresh install from Ubuntu 21.04 iso) - 5.11.0-18-generic (upgrade from Ubuntu 21.04 iso) Also, I try to force the installation of the last e1000e drivers (v3.8.4) both on a fresh install from Ubuntu 20.04.2 iso and Dell 20.04.1 iso but the problem still here. [Bug 1885033] Re: Touchpad switch not working (Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH, Kubuntu 20.04)
I tried to contact them about this, but so far I have a forum post that didn't gather importance, two cancelled support requests and a conversation where they told me they didn't support Linux, hence couldn't report a bug for Linux. Could we set this bug in a state where it won't disappear, so that other people affected can know about it and maybe raise more attention to Lenovo? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885033 Title: Touchpad switch not working (Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH, Kubuntu 20.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1885033/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1885033] Re: Touchpad switch not working (Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH, Kubuntu 20.04)
I'll add a summary of what was told in the anwser : I have the latest BIOS on the Lenovo webpage, this bug appears for both (Linux) and neither on Win10. - xev detects any Fn-Fx combination, apart from Fn-F6 (touchpad toggle). It doesn't detect Fn alone - dmesg does not print any error linked with me pressing Fn-F6 - "Ideapad extra buttons" is listed both in /proc/bus/input/devices and in xinput --list - File named /sys/devices/platform/ideapad/touchpad in the documentation appears to be /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1f.0/PNP0C09:00/VPC2004:00/touchpad on my computer. Its content is always 1 regardless of the setting in Kubuntu or me pressing Fn-F6 - File /sys/kernel/debug/ideapad/status is always ``` Backlight max: 21 Backlight now: 17 BL power value: On = Radio status: On(1) Wifi status:Off(0) BT status: Off(0) 3G status: Off(0) = Touchpad status:On(1) Camera status: Off(0) = Conservation mode: Off(268829184) ``` regardless of regardless of the setting in Kubuntu or me pressing Fn-F6 (touchpad status) or even me changing the luminosity, toggling Wifi, etc. - evtest results : + F1 through F12 show the corresponding keycode. + On its own, Fn does not appear at all. + Fn-F1 (mute) shows MSC_SCAN value a0, keycode 113 (KEY_MUTE) with values alternating 1-0 (as I press/release, this will be the same) + Fn-F2 (vol down) and Fn-F3 (vol up) show MSC_SCAN values ae and b0, with keycodes 114 (KEY_VOLUMEDOWN) and 114 (KEY_VOLUMEUP) + Fn-F4 (mute mic) does not appear at all (it works well though) + Fn-F5 (reload) appears as F5 + Fn-F6 (touchpad switch) does not appear at all (and doesn't work) + Fn-F7 (airplane mode) does not appear at all (but works) + Fn-F8 (cut camera, I guess?) does not appear at all (doesn't work? I haven't found its use, but when streaming my webcam to VLC, it did nothing) + Fn-F9 (lock) appears as LEFTMETA-L, where releasing F9 releases L and Fn releases LEFTMETA + Fn-F10 (change multiscreen options) appears as LEFTMETA-P where repressing F10 represses P and releasing Fn releases LEFTMETA + Fn-F11 (luminosity down) and Fn-F12 (luminosity up) do not appear at all (but work well though) - acpi_listen results: + Fn-F1: button/mute MUTE 0080 K + Fn-F2: button/volumedown VOLDN 0080 K + Fn-F3: button/volumeup VOLUP 0080 K + Fn-F4: button/f20 F20 0080 K + Fn-F5: ^[[15~ (not acpi_listen, but the same code as F5 in console) + Fn-F[6-10]: + Fn-F11: video/brightnessdown BRTDN 0087 + Fn-F12: video/brightnessup BRTUP 0086 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885033 Title: Touchpad switch not working (Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15IRH, Kubuntu 20.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1885033/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It is a drop in replacement for the ESD sound server with much better latency, mixing/re-sampling quality and overall architecture. . These are some of PulseAudio's features: . * High quality software mixing of multiple audio streams with support for more than one sink/source. May be used to combine multiple sound cards into one (with sample rate adjustment). . * Wide range of supported client libraries. ESD, ALSA, oss, libao and GStreamer client applications are supported as-is. Native PulseAudio plug-ins are also available for xmms and mplayer. . * Good low latency behaviour and very accurate latency measurement for playback and recording. Ability to fully synchronize multiple playback streams. . * Network transparency, allowing an application to play back or record audio on a different machine than the one it is running on. . * Extensible plug-in architecture with plug-ins for jackd, multicast-rtp lirc and avahi, just to name a few. . This package contains the daemon and basic module set. Hi Daniel, Thanks for your answer, sorry for my poor english No relation with bug 1553669 or bug 1620636. [Bug 1811214] [NEW] plasmashell stops updating when compositing is disabled
Public bug reported: I ordinarily run KUbuntu 18.04 with desktop compositing enabled, using OpenGL 3.1 and this works quite well. However on some occasions when compositing gets disabled, either because a game disables it or when I manually disable it in the configuration panel, Plasmashell's taskbar stops updating and its appearance gets replaced with an old version. I can tell because the application taskbar buttons are not correct and the hour is also not the right one. Reactivating composition restores normal behaviour. Only the display is affected : even if some application button is not displayed, I can still click on it if I remember where it is. The information displayed during this problem is always the same until I kill plasmashell and restart it. What is displayed seems to be the state when plasmashell was last (re)started, or when the computer resumed from either suspend or hibernation. ** Affects: plasma-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1811214 Title: plasmashell stops updating when compositing is disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1811214/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1799289] [NEW] gucview replaces kde plasmashell display with older one
Public bug reported: I started guvcview for the first time since I switched from Xubuntu to Kubuntu. guvcview seems to replace the plasmashell display with the appearance it had when I logged back into my session after resuming from suspend ! The screen capture shows it : the taskbar displays the tasks that were opened at that time, the notification icons (with activity on the network icon because it is reconnecting after resuming from suspend) and of course the time (which if more the 2 hours in the past). None of these elements are animated (notably not the clock). Clicking on them does have the usual behaviour, except for tasks where the "present/actual" task button do not correspond to the display. Alt-tab also works normally (displaying the actual tasks, including guvcview). guvcview seem to work normally, except that the video feed from the camera sometimes visibly misses a frame. Other application also work. When I close guvcview, the taskbar is again correctly displayed. The phenomenon happens each time I open guvcview. [Bug 1717040] Re: Please backport libzstd 1.3.1+dfsg-1 (universe) from artful
I've got an explanation for the "DOWNGRADED" statement : I had ppa:ginggs/backports in my list of ppa. This ppa contains an updated version of zstd. So that's why when applying `apt-get install zstd/xenial-proposed`, it features the "DOWNGRADED" statement. Removing the PPA, and re-installing the default zstd v0.5.1 from Xenial, I now get : ``` sudo apt install zstd/xenial-proposed Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Selected version '1.3.1+dfsg-1~ubuntu0.16.04.1' (Ubuntu:16.04/xenial-proposed [amd64]) for 'zstd' Selected version '5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.9' (Ubuntu:16.04/xenial-proposed [amd64]) for 'libstdc++6' because of 'zstd' The following additional packages will be installed: libzstd1 The following NEW packages will be installed: libzstd1 The following packages will be upgraded: zstd 1 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 157 not upgraded. Need to get 0 B/391 kB of archives. After this operation, 905 kB of additional disk space will be used. ``` which is the expected outcome. then : ``` zstd -V *** zstd command line interface 64-bits v1.3.1, by Yann Collet *** ``` -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717040 Title: Please backport libzstd 1.3.1+dfsg-1 (universe) from artful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libzstd/+bug/1717040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1717040] Re: Please backport libzstd 1.3.1+dfsg-1 (universe) from artful
I could test `apt-get install zstd/xenial-proposed` today. And it works as intended : library is there and usable, cli works fine too. Just as a little detail, here is the message I'm receiving during installation : ``` The following additional packages will be installed: libzstd1 The following packages will be REMOVED: libzstd-dev The following NEW packages will be installed: zstd The following packages will be DOWNGRADED: libzstd1 0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 1 downgraded, 1 to remove and 157 not upgraded. Need to get 391 kB of archives. After this operation, 258 kB of additional disk space will be used. ``` I was surprised by the DOWNGRADED statement because libzstd1 wasn't installed on this VM, so there should be nothing to downgrade. Anyway, this is mostly a cosmetic issue, final statement is : it works all fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717040 Title: Please backport libzstd 1.3.1+dfsg-1 (universe) from artful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libzstd/+bug/1717040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1717040] Re: Please backport libzstd 1.3.1+dfsg-1 (universe) from artful
I have a feeling that I don't fully grasp all the implied side effects here, so if this process feels safer based on your experience, please go ahead. I don't think the API will be an issue in this upgrade : as stated, all published symbols in v0.5.1 are still published in v1.3.1, so I would expect such application to continue linking properly. The change of format is another thing, and an application hardwired to deal with v0.5.x experimental format, if such a thing exist, would be surprised to deal with data using v1.x format. So some caution in the transition is indeed welcomed.
Hi Robie As far as I can tell, it is much more likely that an application expecting zstd >=v1.0.0 will break, most likely at link stage, and maybe at run stage, when provided with v0.5.1 instead. The other way round should be less problematic : applications expecting to work with v0.5.1 should still work with v.1.3.1. The reason is : All symbols defined in v0.5.1 are also present in the "stable" section of v1.3.1. For reference, here is the API for v0.5.1 : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/blob/v0.5.1/lib/zstd.h and here is the API for v1.3.1 : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/blob/v1.3.1/lib/zstd.h The major counter example is the streaming API. This one used to be available in a separate package : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/blob/v0.5.1/lib/zbuff.h It is clearly labelled experimental, hence does not provide any API stability guarantee. Nonetheless, in v1.3.1, this API is still available here : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/blob/v1.3.1/lib/deprecated/zbuff.h It is the exact same API, defining the same symbols. What has changed is that this API is now branded "deprecated", which means it will generate deprecation warnings during compilation (except if these warnings are explicitly disabled, using typically -Wno-deprecated-declarations for gcc, or the custom macro ZBUFF_DISABLE_DEPRECATE_WARNINGS). The deprecation warnings include comments to invite users to migrate towards the new "stable" streaming API, defined here : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/blob/v1.3.1/lib/zstd.h#L248 Of course, this is only useful for developers.

Multithreading is the main new capability I can think of, and that's probably the one users will miss the most, but there are quite a few more ones, listed on the release page, and in the NEWS document : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/releases https://github.com/facebook/zstd/blob/dev/NEWS#L24 The list is pretty long though, and just copy/pasting it wouldn't give a sense of priority. Let's say there are a lot of small improvements and little bug fixing contributing to an overall better experience. Given a choice, I would recommend v1.3.1 over v1.1.2.
Yes, it would be a pretty strong step forward compared to v0.5.1. v1.1.2 is from December 2016 : https://github.com/facebook/zstd/releases/tag/v1.1.2 The main feature developed since then is multithreaded compression. I guess a few users will miss it, but it's a minor setback compared to current situation. [Bug 1629356] Re: update libzstd package in xenial
I confirm this is a serious issue. Xenial is LTS version for Ubuntu, so it's going to stay around for a long time. Meanwhile, zstd v0.5.1 is an experimental version using an incompatible format. It cannot read from zstd v1+. It generates data in a format that normal programs without legacy support cannot read. This is a big issue currently, as it makes Ubuntu 16.04 LTS incompatible with the rest of the world, using v1+ format. Please update Xenial to latest zstd version (v1.3.1 at this date). It will solve all problems above. (note : zstd cli has "legacy support" enabled by default, which means it will be able to decode data already generated by zstd v0.5.1) (note 2 : later versions, starting with Yakkety, don't have this problem) ** Summary changed: - update xenial to 0.8.0 + update libzstd package in xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629356 Title: update libzstd package in xenial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libzstd/+bug/1629356/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On the same kind of topic, daemon: oneshot is buggy and cannot work also. Because it does set Restart=on-failure, which is refused by systemd. [Bug 1574270] Re: applications segfault systematically with tsocks
All, Thanks to the testers; thanks to the up-voters! It feels good not to be alone! ;-) However, I'm not sure what to do with this bug report now... The maintainer is in Cc, the Ubuntu Review Team is in Cc, the last uploader is in Cc. Yet, no reply so far. I know the tsocks code base is, to say the least, not the best I had to deal with; yet the reasons are pretty well explained and the patch itself pretty simple. It's a wonder the bug did not get exposed until only recently; it's been latent for all those years. I *am* ready to rework the patch if it is deemed to be not correct, but I can't do that without feedback. Heck, I would even consider volunteering to handle this package for the foreseable future if that would help (but I am not used to packaging; I'd need directions quite often). Quid? Regards, Yann E. [Bug 1574270] Re: applications segfault systematically with tsocks
Dear Tamas, Dear Ubuntu Review Team, It's been more than a month that I have posted a proposal to fix this bug. In the meantime, I have tested this extensively (as *everything* gets out of my machine via tsocks) and I have had no issue at all. with the proposed patch. Can we at least get a status on this bug, even it is just a "won't fix" or "don't care" or whatever, please? ;-) Thanks! Regards, Yann E. MORIN PS. [Bug 1579767] Re: udf does not support using aarch64 kernel snap with armhf 32 bits user space
Issue was that os.snap (containing initrd.img) was being downloaded in self.sourcedir + 'os.snap'. Meaning the os.snap was being downloaded (and cached) in the kernel source dir. Which I didn't clean and which "snapcraft clean" didn't clean either. I guess this is not the correct behaviour. So now the image is flashed and boots correctly o/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579767 Title: udf does not support using aarch64 kernel snap with armhf 32 bits user space To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/goget-ubuntu-touch/+bug/1579767/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579767] Re: udf does not support using aarch64 kernel snap with armhf 32 bits user space
Maybe I should open a new bug but now I'm able to generate paros.img image with ubuntu-device-flash. But then when I flash it and boot it I get issues from the init of initrd. initrd cannot mount the gadget/kernel/core snaps because it searches for them in the wrong paths. It searches at /tmpmnt_writable/system-data/var/lib/snappy/snaps/file.snap But they are in /tmpmnt_writable/system-data/var/lib/snapd/snaps/file.snap I guess this is coming from UDF generating wrong files in initrd?
