[Bug 1879968] Re: Copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice and Wine apps

2021-09-08 Thread zero anarchy
I do a lot of web work each day building websites for clients. When
copying content from Libreoffice to firefox the content will only copy
and paste every so often. I have gotten in the habit of using the
shortcut multiple times to copy however this is only successful 60% of
the time. I know when it has been copied as the content selected flashs
when using the shortcut. If it does not flash I have to unselect and
reselect to try again.

This bug needs to be prioritised as it significantly impacts the use of
the platform.

Cheers

[Bug 1878946] Re: Cannot install proprietary NVIDIA driver

2021-08-16 Thread Zero
This bug is not limited to just Kubuntu. I am chiming in as a Xubuntu
20.04.2 user. The driver I attempt to install from Driver Manager is
340.108. The results are identical to what is being reported here. And
this bug affects ALL of my machines running v20.04. My Asus laptop with
hybrid Nvidia GT218, my desktop with PNY GeForce 210, my i7 desktop with
GT750, and others. So please count this as three reports, not just one.

The only common denominator is v20.04 of the Ubuntu base OS. And FWIW, I
am not a fan of Mint but it does not suffer from this bug.

[Bug 1879124] Re: 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)

2020-05-17 Thread Pi Zero
Hey Chris, of course.

I plugged in the USB Dongle CSR 4.0, attempted to scan my BT device,
unfortunately my usb device was not recognized. I also wanted to use
Wireshark with this dongle, but it was not detected as well.

I am able to use this device on Ubuntu 18.04 and scan my BT devices.

[Bug 1804186] [NEW] After snap deinstallation app.desktop file doesn't removed.

2018-11-20 Thread Four Zero Four
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04
After snap deinstallation .desktop files from directory
/var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/ doesn't removed properly.
If after snap deinstallation ( doesn't matter which way you used, Ubuntu
Software Center or CLI ) you install same software via apt/dpkg, then app icon
will not display in UI ( app grid, dock, application switcher) until you remove
conflicting .desktop file in snapd directory.

2018-06-07 Thread Zero
I apologize for a double post but this looks like the better thread to
report this, despite it's age. Everything was working perfectly until
the massive update that came out last night, 06/06/2018. Now cannot find
internal Atheros BT adapter in Blueman-applet. It appears to allow me to
enable BT. Lights on but no one home. Appears to me the Linux BT
firmware is borked, again.

Not sure if this is the same problem. Everything was working perfectly
until the massive update that came out last night. Now cannot find
internal Atheros BT adapter in Blueman-applet. It appears to allow me to
enable BT. Lights on but no one home. Linux firmware looks borked.

[Bug 1551003] Re: Xenial Files cannot browse network

2016-08-02 Thread Zero
Network browsing to the default workgroup named "WORKGROUP" is sluggish
but seems to work. Browsing to any other workgroup on the network is
definitely broken. Can only connect to those samba shares by specifying
the physical IP address of the remote machine. I hope this provides devs
a clue where to look.

[Bug 1510660] Re: Screen icons and text corrupted after 15.10 upgrade

2016-01-27 Thread Zero
I had this problem as well, starting with the welcome screens during the
install. I believe it is something wrong in the Xorg video driver. My
video card is a Maxwell based nVidia GTX 750 Ti. Despite the menus being
almost completely illegible, I was able to navigate to the Settings
Manager / Additional Drivers and install the nVidia proprietary driver
352.63.

Xorg driver is to blame.

[Bug 1390769] Re: modemmanager breaks Pantech UML295W Ubuntu 14.04

2015-08-04 Thread Zero
Finally upgraded from 14.04 to 14.10 (mm v1.2), then 15.04 (mm v1.4).
Tested my Pantech device with each version. Even with Vivid, I still
have to regress my modem manager to version 0.5.2.0-0 in order for my
Pantech UML295W to work.

This appears to be a permanent regression with no urgency assigned to
ever repairing it. Very disappointing.

2015-02-03 Thread Zero
I have recently been having trouble with getting Wine1.7 to coexist with
driver 331.113-updates, forced to regress to the non-updates tested
version. I suspect the background upgrade problem may be related to
Wine. No one has yet made the connection here. Might be worth looking

[Bug 1306901] Re: jitsi crashes when receiving a call

2014-12-28 Thread Zero
I too am affected. Crash in incoming call. Xubuntu 14.04, Jitsi
2.4.4997. Also applies to received text but only of a chat window needs
to be spawned on receive. If the chat window is already open to the
remote user, bidirectional chat works. Incoming calls still crash the
client.

   BUT

Both problems go away if, in Tools/Options/General, you uncheck the box
for Use task bar / dock alerts on incoming calls and chats. This
simply prevents one from seeing if the other party is typing.

Now you have somewhere to start looking in the source code.

[Bug 1304131] Re: Two instances of Additional Drivers in Settings Manager after upgrade

2014-11-25 Thread Zero
To follw up, I had to do a fresh install of 14.04 to clear out the
multiple instances. I was having other wierd things going on anyway.
What I can say is that the problem, at least in my case because I was
running Nvidia 337.xx on 12.04 for crypto currency mining, may have
stemmed from not properly removing the manually installed Nvidia driver
prior to upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04.

[Bug 1338183] [NEW] libpam-systemd and whoopsie upgrade failed from a clean install of Xubuntu 14.04

2014-07-05 Thread Zero
Public bug reported:

System: Xubuntu 14.04 LTS

Package info:
PackageName CurrentUpgradeTo
whoopsie 0.2.24.50.2.24.6
libpam-systemd 204-5ubuntu20 204-5ubuntu20.2

Error shown:
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/libpam-systemd_204-5ubuntu20.3_i386.deb
/var/cache/apt/archives/whoopsie_0.2.24.6_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

How to reproduce:
1. Run the following commands to prepare the image customization environment:
sudo apt-get install squashfs-tools genisoimage
mkdir ~/livecdtmp
cp ~/Desktop/xubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso ~/livecdtmp
cd ~/livecdtmp
mkdir mnt
sudo mount -o loop xubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso mnt
mkdir extract-cd
sudo rsync --exclude=/casper/filesystem.squashfs -a mnt/ extract-cd
sudo unsquashfs mnt/casper/filesystem.squashfs
sudo mv squashfs-root edit
sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf edit/etc/
sudo cp /etc/hosts edit/etc/
sudo mount --bind /dev/ edit/dev

mount -t sysfs none /sys
mount -t devpts none /dev/pts
export HOME=/root
export LC_ALL=C
dbus-uuidgen /var/lib/dbus/machine-id
dpkg-divert --local --rename --add /sbin/initctl
ln -s /bin/true /sbin/initctl

2. Enable the partner source by adding the following line to source.list:
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu trusty partner
deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu trusty partner
deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main
deb-src http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu trusty main

3. apt-get update apt-get upgrade to get the error mentioned.

Troubleshooting steps I have tried:
1. clean the apt cache folder and download the updates again, still failed.
2. empty the folder for customization environment(livecdtmp in this example),
and do the steps again, tried at least 4 times, still failed.
3. tried to completely remove and reinstall whoopsie package, but failed to
remove and reinstall

[Bug 119899]

2013-03-25 Thread Zero-ads-are-acceptable+buggy
I stop worryng about edge cases by edge users

Are those not the users who help nail down the bug per se?

 #c45 stop imap search

Wouldn't it be better to indicate IMAP server deficiencies to the user
and disable features for problematic users and not punish everyone else
with dimished functionality? [ditto #46]

There were other reasons to switch it - e.g., filters that check if a
sender is in an address book only work locally

How is that a reason?

Local filters should run as local filters and not attempt to run as
server filters.

or we could figure out how to do hybrid searches, partly locally,
partly on the server

yes, please

#48
Since I am the admin of my IMAP server

That could allow for extensions to manipulate server's EXIM rules [for
future messages]

other workaround is to configure your IMAP folders for offline use

That's not helpful in an ideal way.

#39
[2007] Isn't IMAP trendy enough for the programmers to make it work?

It should be by now as many smart phones default to IMAP -- as android
when microsoft ActiceSync is not available.

Else the option of Z-Push or ZCP or whatever it's been forked in to N
months from now.

[Bug 787670] Re: mkmountpoint fails with long path names.

2012-06-01 Thread dev-zero
I can confirm this on oneiric. The problem is that the recursive mountpoint
creation is broken in the case where pam_mount can't successfully
seteuid/setgeuid. This bug is most probably still present in the current
pam-mount-2.13 as well.
I've added an untested patch in the upstream bug report:

Also I have corruption after suspending, Nividia-9600gt. I will attach
an screenshot; Curiously it affects the desktop background and
applications but not menus, modal windows or unity panel dock and
drawer; they appear on top of the corruption.

[Bug 44233] Re: mount udf dvd fails, possible wrong fstab entry

2011-07-02 Thread Mger Zero
I'm using 10.04 Lucid; other ubuntu versions are probably similar.
The temp fix may or may not work for all udf types.

The bug seems to be caused by auto-mount.
Auto-mount tries to mount udf dvd as type udf.
However, udf dvd-video should be mounted as type iso9660.

A temp fix is to manually mount the dvd drive.

1. Make a new folder to use as a mount point, or use any existing empty folder.
  sudo mkdir /media/dvd1

2. List your dvd drives with this command:
  wodim --devices

3. Look for dev=.
Your dvd drive is likely to be /dev/scd0
The shortcut /dev/dvd may also work.

4. Unmount the folder, just in case.
  sudo umount /media/dvd1

5. Mount dvd drive.
  sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /media/dvd1

or if your device is /dev/scd0
  sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd0 /media/dvd1

If you use vlc media player to play udf dvd-video, you may need to disable DVD
menus.
In vlc, Media Open Disc check No DVD menus
  Disc device = /media/dvd1

vlc command line:
vlc dvdsimple:///media/dvd1

All commands used listed:
---
sudo mkdir /media/dvd1
wodim --devices
sudo umount /media/dvd1
sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/dvd /media/dvd1
vlc dvdsimple:///media/dvd1

If you are mounting an udf iso, try
  sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop /pathToIso/filename.iso /media/dvd1

[Bug 792726] Re: Manufacturers PPD's are not recognized in UI but they are in CUPS web interface

2011-06-11 Thread Zero
I checked again and it finally the driver appeared exactly with the
filter language between parentheses, the only thing I did was to restart
the computer. Since this machine works as a server for files, printing
and licensing it haves long up-times and although I restarted CUPS
manually from terminal It seems that only after reboot they appeared.

I should state that the driver appeared in CUPS web interface after
restarting CUPS, but in system-config-printer they only appeared after
reboot.

[Bug 792726] [NEW] Manufacturers PPD's are not recognized in UI but they are in CUPS web interface

2011-06-04 Thread Zero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

I made a fresh Natty install days ago and added tweedledee's:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341621... repository:
http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/ which contains Samsung's SPL-C
proprietary SPL rasterizer and PPD's for their printers and installed
samsungmfp-data and samsungmfp-driver packages.

However after install (and even reboot) my printer model in particular
Samsung CLP-310 (Color Laser) only shows foomatic filters while adding
the printer or when trying to change drivers from the UI. Altough
foomatic filter is shown and works it haves a very poorly performance in
color conversion with any color profiler and bad resolution management
which is not a real solution, I do amateur photography and I do print in
this printer.

By the way. I managed to add my printer with Samsung SPL-C filter which
appeared in CUP's web interface but not on Printer Config UI.

[Bug 776924] [NEW] Theming service crash and reverting to GTK classic theme. (VMware Fusion as Host)

2011-05-04 Thread Zero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtk2-engines

The theming service which used to be managed gnome-settings-daemon
crashes, reverting to standard/classic/gray/ugly/squared GTK default
theme, plus gnome-settings daemon is showed as running on System
Monitor.

This happen after seconds of login in user session and only when Ubuntu
is virtualized with VMWare Fusion as Host.

Bug happens indistinctly of using open-vm-tools or vmware-tools from
VMWare and also on classic desktop, also it is independent if user
chooses between VMWare easy install (installing vmware-tools
automatically on first start) or classic install.

Bug doesn't happen on live CD sessions or while installing.

VMWare Fussion Version 3.1.2 (332101).

I put it under gtk2-engines package as it is a theming bug, but I am
almost sure that it is another package that I don't know.

2011-05-04 Thread Zero
Although the installation is not vanilla after Unity-2D install, it
happens even on a fresh Natty vanilla install.

Steps to Reproduce:

Make use of VMware Fusion on a Mac system (if specific OSX 10.6.7 macbook
unibody 5,1).
Virtual Machine sattings are detailed in the attached VMX file.

Install Ubutnu 11.04 fresh on the Virtual Machine with or without VMware
Easy Install.

Login into the account created during install.
l
After some seconds after login in classic desktop, the GTK theme will revert to
classic.

[Bug 516018] Re: cups 400 Bad Request for fully qualified host name

2011-03-26 Thread Zero
Also I think this is important to support HOST.local
(avahi/bonjour/ZeroConf) type of name resolution.

I have a home network in wich i can't manage the routers dns since it
only relays a dns from the cloud and al machines are assigned via dhcp
so no static ips.

Avahi and Bonjour in Mac and Windows hosts have helped me to manage
internal names and services on my lan, having a server with a dynamic ip
is not ideal, but is the way It works better on the router side.
