I am also getting this error on my wife's laptop since I updated it to Meerkat on the 11th. [Bug 403408] Re: Grub 2 problem, error: no such device
I can also confirm that I have this bug. Editing out the --search part of the boot line gives me a working system. However... I just did some updates and part of the update was a new kernel linux-2.6.31-16-generic. After the updates my system reboots and instead of encountering the error listed above I now end up with just a sh:grub line. If I manually type in my boot parameters I can get the system to boot. After playing around trying to fix that issue somehow my whole boot record or something got hosed because eventually my system started booting to just a initramfs prompt. I tried using the Super Grub Boot Disk to recover the MBR but it was unable to do anything to the disk (not sure why it couldn't. Even Puppy Linux from a USB flash drive was unable to mount the hard disk any more). I eventually gave up and formatted the disk. Of course now that I have re-installed Mythbuntu and grabbed all of the updates I am back to the sh:grub error. The annoying thing is Grub2 will NOT give me a menu to go to with this error that I could simply edit to fix the offending lines. Instead I have to manually type everything in. Not fun when you have to do it 20 times over the course of an hour trying to figure out how to fix this issue. I am not sure if these two issues are related or completely different but I thought I would add it just in case. This is on two clean installs of Mythbuntu 9.10 by the way... The first time my Mythbox was all configured and set so you can imagine the frustration when I lost all of that work. -- Grub 2 problem, error: no such device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403408 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 452376] Re: Ubuntu One applet crashed
I seem to be having this same problem. I have Kubuntu 9.10 loaded on two HP DV2 laptops that are exactly the same. This error appears on both of these laptops. Almost every time I log in I get a notice in my system tray that ubuntuone has crashed. The UbuntuOne Icon does not appear in the tray as it should. Looking at the process list I see that both the Applet and Sync Daemon are still running however there is no icon for UbuntuOne in the tray. Usually after about twenty minutes or so the UbuntuOne tray icon will suddenly appear in the tray showing the upload/download icon and say it is transferring data. After a few minutes it will then change to the icon of the hard drive with the cloud and if I hover the mouse over the icon it will say updating If I click on the tray icon though it will say something like system is up to date. No files are ever transferred even after letting it sit for several hours. The data I am trying to sync is about 16gb of Documents in a directory that contains a lot of sub folders. After about 4 days of trying to sync the data it has only synced about 2gb. It would seem that the only time UbuntuOne has actually synced anything is when I first installed it and I did the web authentication thing. Once I restarted the computer it would just crash as detailed above. One question I had is if this is related to the gnome keyring not being unlocked when I log into Kubuntu. I am using unsafe storage with gnome keyring so I do not get a message twice asking me to enter a password when I log on. Again, this happens with both laptops that are configured pretty much the same. -- Ubuntu One applet crashed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452376 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 432569] Re: Ubuntu One does not sync all files
I have about 16gb of data sitting in my Ubuntu One folder and only 4.4gb has actually been uploaded to the server. Even though there is plenty of data that needs to be uploaded UbuntuOne states that all of my files are up to date. For whatever it's worth the uploaded process was interrupted when I had to turn off my laptop to travel. Also of note is that the UbuntuOne web interface never works for me. It either hangs when opening directories or just fails to load at all. On the rare occasion that it does work I can see all of my folders but most of the folders are empty. I have two identical laptops running Kubuntu 9.10 and both have this same issue of not syncing. -- Ubuntu One does not sync all files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 329355] [NEW] Backspace Kills XServer
Public bug reported: I've recently upgraded to the beta of Ubuntu jaunty (development branch); Release: 9.04. For whatever reason, sometimes if I hold certain keyboard buttons down for a second or two, it will kill the xserver and bring me back to the login screen. It is almost exactly like pressing ctrl+alt+backspace, ie x just completely restarts and brings me back to the login screen, however I'm pressing ONLY a single key like the backspace button for a second or two (usually to delete a sentence that I typed). It happens primarily with the backspace key but it has also happened with the arrow keys as well. Of note, I'm still using the 2.26.27-8-generic kernel because the 2.26.28 kernel hoses my harddrive (another bug that was fixed and seems to have resurfaced). I've updated everything else to the latest packages for jaunty through the update manager. I've also tried this on two different usb keyboards and had the same issue. It would seem that the longer the xserver has been running the more likely this will happen. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Backspace Kills XServer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329355 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 282550] Re: EXT3 file system gets corrupted w/ 2.6.27
This bug has now resurfaced in the latest development version of the kernel for jaunty! I'm now holding back and using the 2.26.27-8-generic version of the kernel that was for intrepid. The same thing happens as what I described above, if I start the computer using any of the 2.26.28 kernels it will hose my ext3 partition that is 380gb. When I restart my computer I'm stuck with a file system check that starts cleaning up a bunch of inodes and stuff. Usually fsck is able to do it's job and put everything back in place but sometimes I have ended up losing some data. ** Summary changed: - EXT3 file system gets corrupted w/ 2.6.27 + EXT3 filesystem corrupts with 2.6.27 and 2.6.28 kernels -- EXT3 filesystem corrupts with 2.6.27 and 2.6.28 kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282550] [NEW] EXT3 file system gets corrupted w/ 2.6.27
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic I initially posted this at the following location but decided that my issue looked to be different then what this person had. I apologize in advance if this is considered a double post. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/229968 I have a Biosta TForce 550 motherboard with the Nvidia N550 chipset. While upgrading from Hardy Heron (amd64) to the beta of Intrepid (amd64) I found that I could no longer boot my system successfully when using the 2.6.27 series of kernels. I have a 400gb Drive partitioned with a root, swap, and home partitions. Both root and home are EXT3 partitions. The disk is an IDE drive that I'm using an IDE to SATA converter so I can plug it into my MB's SATA port. When I try to boot using the 2.6.27 kernel it successfully mounts the root partition but when it trys to mount my home directory I get the following: [ 199.017784] EXT3-fs error (device sda3): ext3_get_inode_loc: unable to read inode block - inode=20029441, block=80117762 I then end up at a login window but I'm unable to log into my KDE session as a normal user because it can't find my /home partition. If I reboot the system and select the image 2.6.24-19 the system boots cleanly BUT a check is forced on my /home partition where it finds errors and presumably fixes all of them. Once the check is finished (takes about 20 minutes) the system continues booting without any problems. I have tried using all of the linux-image-2.6.27 images from 1-7 and each have had the same issue. Of note, I initially thought this might be because I'm using a SATA to IDE adapter on my HD however I did connect my HD to the IDE port on the motherboard and had the same error. [Bug 282550] Re: EXT3 file system gets corrupted w/ 2.6.27
Some update... I figured that I would format my disk and reinstall using the newest iso Beta for Intrepid Ibex. When I got to the partition part of the setup from the Live CD I found that Ubuntu was only seeing 33gb of my 400gb disk. This caused me to recall that I had this same issue a couple of months ago when I was attempting to load an Alpha version of Intrepid Ibex. For whatever reason the correct disk size is not recognized by the 2.6.27 kernel. I'm guessing that this actually doesn't have anything to do with EXT3 but rather the IDE driver in the 2.6.27 kernel that is not able to see the full size of my disk. I'm not sure why my particular setup seems to be the magic setup to cause this issue. I've looked around for other bug reports and issues and haven't found anything similar to my situation yet. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. -- EXT3 file system gets corrupted w/ 2.6.27 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 229968] Re: Hard disk randomly halts
I'm not sure if I have the same issue or not but figured this would be the best place to post. I have a BioStar TForce 550 motherboard with the N550 chipset from NVIDIA. I've been using the 64bit version of Hardy Heron without any issues but recently decided to start testing Intrepid Ibex. My hangup has been I am unable to boot successfully with any of the 2.6.27 kernels. Every time I try to boot with a 2.6.27 kernel it has trouble reading my /home partition. (This has held true even with the latest 2.6.27-6 kernel). The disk is a 400gb disk with a 20gb partition for the root file system and the balance for my /home partition. Both partitions are formated with EXT3. For whatever reason, on boot with the 2.6.27 kernel there is no trouble reading the root partition (or at least appears not to have any trouble) but when it comes to mounting my /home partition I start getting ext3_get_inode_loc and unable to read inode block errors. The end result, I have no /home partition. If I fall back and reboot using the 2.6.24-19 generic kernel the system boots up but a check is forced on the /home partition where it takes about 20 minutes to scan and presumably repair the partition. Once the check is complete the system continues booting without issue. Note, I do not have any problems at all if I just stick to the 2.6.24 kernel each time I boot, everything mounts cleanly. Of note, my 400gb drive is an IDE drive that I'm using a SATA to IDE adapter so I can plug into the SATA port on my MB. I will be happy to provide further details if you tell me what you need. -- Hard disk randomly halts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229968 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working
I've had this problem in Hardy as well as in the Alpha of Intrepid Ibex. Whenever I try to connect to my file server I have no problems seeing the file server using the remote login manager and clicking on it starts the connection however I never get a login window to login into the file server machine, I just get the Grey background with the X as a cursor. I've looked at everything from firewalls, IVP6, I've even switched between kdm and gdm on the file sever to see if that was the issue. I've also walked through the guides several times to make sure that I had everything enabled correctly. I've had XDMCP working before but it was a very long time ago. Both machines started out as Fiesty Fawn machines and I've upgraded them both to Hardy Heron and now to Intrepid Ibex. -- Remote Login via XDMCP is not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 164346] Re: [Xubuntu 7.10] keyboard delay when typing text. Result: missing letters.
Not sure if my problem is the same or not here but I'm having a similar issue. When I type I'm able to out type the keyboard. That is to say that the computer is lagging about two or three words behind me as I type. I haven't tried all of the applications to see if this happens but this is happening for sure with Firefox and with Openoffice so I think it is system wide. The laptop is an Althlon 64 X2 (running the 32bit version of Xubuntu 7.10) with 2gb of RAM. It has NVIDIA graphics (using the proprietary driver) and is currently running compiz. I have tried disabling Compiz and it didn't seem to make any difference but I noticed that if I drop out of X and into a console the typing returns to normal with no delay at all so this definitly appears to be an issue with X. Another thing I have noticed is that the delay seems to exasperate with the more characters used. For example, If I just alternate quickly between the letter a and z really quickly the computer is able to keep up. However, If I use a wide variety of letters like typing this setence it starts to get farther and farther behind. I probably type in the 50-70wpm so I'm not exactly a fast typer by any means. ** Attachment added: xorg.conf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11062322/xorg.conf -- [Xubuntu 7.10] keyboard delay when typing text. [Bug 82314] Re: pata driver in libata is thwarted by HPA
Last night I got an update message for a new 2.6.20-14-generic kernel so I figured what the heck, I'll give it a try. I downloaded and installed the update and what do you know the thing actually boots without any problems. I'm a little confused though because I'm not sure if they released the 2.6.20-14-generic as a newer update to the old 2.6.20-14-generic and just didn't change the version number or what. Something I did notice though, some of my hdparm optimizations like multicount and such no longer initialize in this drive using the new libata driver. My read speed went from around 60mb/sec down to 28mb/sec. I'm guessing this is still early code and over time will mature more. One thing of note, on my system I had to disable most of the ide tweaks in the bios just to get the thing to boot with the 2.6.20 series kernels. I should add that I have two internal drives, one a 20gb and the other a 400gb. Ubuntu is on the 20gb and even with the older 2.6.20 kernels would boot okay, so long as I disabled things like UDMA access and DMA transfers and stuff in the bios. The 400gb drive is the one that gave me all of the problems regarding the host protected area and is what lead me to this thread. I have not tried enabling most of these tweaks in the bios with this new 2.6.20-14-generic kernel that recognizes the 400gb drive correctly. I will have to try that tonight. -- pata driver in libata is thwarted by HPA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82314 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 82314] Re: pata driver in libata not mounting /home
I already sent Ben and Kyle an e-mail about this but I thought I should post my comments below in case other people have the same issue. I tried the kernel from above and it did fix the end of device messages but I came up with the following error message when my system was trying to initialize my 400gb secondary drive. [9.064000] ata1.01: n_sectors mismatch 66055248 != 9670832 [9.064000] ata1.01: revalidation failed (errno=-19) [9.064000] ata1.01: disabled [9.064000] ata1: failed to recover some devices, retrying in 5 secs Ben responded back promptly with the following: Thanks for testing. I actually knew about this little bug already, and have fixed it locally (didn't get a chance to rebuild new images yet). So hopefully a new image will be up and ready to go soon. Thanks again. -- pata driver in libata not mounting /home https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82314 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
