[Bug 1020759]
I'm using Ubuntu (Xubuntu), and starting with 12.10 my USB flash drives and USB hard discs are mounted to /media/$USER/ instead of /media/. As far as I know, this is because of the change discussed in this bug report. When I'm logged in as user X and plug a USB device, no one but user X can access to this device. That's a problem for me (and - in my opinion - a bug). Usually there are two, three of four accounts working on my computer simultaneously. They all need access to some data on USB devices. I use ext3/ext4 file permissions on my USB devices to control, who is allowed to access which data. This worked with Ubuntu 12.04, but it doesn't work any more with Ubuntu 12.10. Authorized users can't access their data any more, because they can't access to /media/$USER. Is it possible to allow all users to access to any plugged USB device? If yes: How can I get this behaviour. If no: When this bug is estimated to be repaired? [Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
Hi there... Finally I got a solution: I installed emerald-0.9.5 from source this morning and the blank white windows are gone, focus-animation dodge is working fine, awesome! The further hard- software-configuration is like described in my post #152 as Configuration #3. To compile emerald-0.9.5 for ubuntu 12.04.1 I followed the description at http://handytutorial.com/install-emerald-in-ubuntu-12-04-12-10/;. The first attempt failed with make complaining missing dependencies. I found the fix at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emerald/+bug/968112; in post #7, there is a further environment-variable to set before: 'export LIBS=-ldl -lm'. Great thanks to user MC Return! After that, the package built successfully (I used checkinstall instead of make install to get a installable package). I'm very happy to have emerald back in 12.04 and that the blank white windows are gone ;-) Thank you all out there for your great work and wish you a nice weekend... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729979 Title: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/729979/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white
Hi everyone. Just another report of which configurations are working and which don't. But with these results, it seems for me to be an nvidia-driver issue, as the last two setups mainly differ in the OpenGL-driver (except in the cpu-architecture). - Configuration #1: Focus-Animation-Effect Dodge IS WORKING GREAT for me with the following setup: OS-Version: Ubuntu 12.10 Kernel-Version: Linux 3.5.0-22-generic (i686) (Virtual)Machine: VirtualBox 4.2.6 r82870 Desktop-Environment:Mate 1.4.2 Display-Server: X.Org Version 1.13.0 OpenGL-Driver: VMware Inc. Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe 2.1 Mesa 9.0 with direct rendering Compiz-Version: 0.9.8.6 - Configuration #2: Focus-Animation-Effect Dodge IS ALSO WORKING GREAT for me with the following setup: OS-Version: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Kernel-Version: 3.2.0-36-generic (i686) (Virtual)Machine: VirtualBox 4.2.6 r82870 Desktop-Environment:Mate 1.4.2 Display-Server: X.Org Version 1.11.3 OpenGL-Driver: Humper 2.1 Chromium 1.9 with direct rendering Compiz-Version: 0.9.7.12 - Configuration #3: Focus-Animation-Effect Dodge DOESN'T WORK for me (producing white windows) with the following setup: OS-Version: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Kernel-Version: 3.2.0-36-generic (x86_64) Machine:ASUS-Rampage III with Intel Core i7-930 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 Desktop-Environment:Mate 1.4.2 Display-Server: X.Org Version 1.11.3 OpenGL-Driver: NVIDIA 304.64 with direct rendering Compiz-Version: 0.9.7.12 All other Compositing-Effects I've activated, and there are a lot of them ;-), are working great with both configurations, except the Focus Animations. - I've noticed, that the OpenGL-Driver in configuration #2 is running much fluently than that one of configuration #1 but both are working at least, in opposite of the nvidia-driver in configuration #3. I wasn't looking for further, but are there any recent setups with the nvidia-driver which are working with the focus-animation-effects out there? Any further ideas? sorry ... after reboot everything works quite fine although not bug-free ... forget the points B,C,X... and Y1 Z) current state after reboot is: - additional Soundcard elements appeared: Headphon, Auto Mute, Mic Boos - volume states before/after headphone insertion are remembered, but not applied e.g. to the Speaker or Headphon sliders, but the Master volume (e.g. Master:100%, Speaker:80% on 1. may be Master:80%,Speaker:100% on 3.) - muting Speaker or Headphon also mutes Master and this is not easily undone (using Gnome Alsa Mixer) so you can hear something again (exact behaviour somewhat unclear) = solution is to unmute and increase the System Settings-Sound-Output Volume -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871611 Title: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/871611/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 871611] Re: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem
It's still not completely solved. I am running Mint 13 Maya: Problem A) as saepia said - one has to manually add options snd-hda- intel ... and do some alsa force-reload or restart to fix the 1. speaker -2. headphone insertion -3. speaker-not-working-anymore issue Problem B) but still the Speaker volume 0% = Ss1 = 100% of 1. is not remembered, but instead it goes to 100% on 3. Problem C) and the Speaker volume (curiously adjusting the headphone volume as well) 0% = Sh2 = 100% of 2. is not remembered on -4. headphone insertion = it seems the logical-physical relationship between the Soundcard elements: Speaker and PCM is not correctly mapped by the driver: State X) currently: State Xs) no headphone inserted: Speaker, PCM and Master add up to the resulting volume of the notebook speakers VS = thus 3. is actually quite bad here since it may significantly increase speaker volume VS3 in opposition to VS1 (=VS3-(1-Ss1)) State Xh) headphone inserted: Speaker, PCM and Master add up to the resulting volume of the headphone VH = thus 2./4. are actually quite bad here since they may significantly lower the headphone volume VH2/VH4 (VH4=VH2-Sh2) = Solution Y1) driver behaviour should be: B and C Speaker volume should not be touched at all on headphone insertion/removal, which would also eliminate the problem of the remembering of the speaker/headphone volume maybe some existing model=??? other than auto may already do Y1 ... if I find time I'll play with this -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871611 Title: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/871611/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

additional info that may be of interest: on headphone insertion (2./4.) the Speaker Mute - is automatically set to mute enabled, but - has no effect (headphones are not muted either way) and on headphone removal (3.) the Speaker Mute is enabled again - another related bug just found: muting the Speaker (if headphone is removed) won't make it produce any sound again (even after alsa force-restart) (headphones still work on insertion) (somehow the master volume seems to be effected by this as well because it will jump to 0% and muted if one plays with the Speaker or PCM volumes in Gnome Alsamixer afterwards) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/871611 Title: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/871611/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 941790] [NEW] Emacs window shrinks automatically
Public bug reported: When starting Emacs without tool-bar and without menu-bar the windows shrinks automatically to the size of one (text) line. [Bug 810283] Re: Unity/Xserver crashes when in docking station
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected natty ubuntu ** Description changed: Unity/Xserver crashes in the following situation: - switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel) - boot - gdm autologin into unity -- everything works fine - shutdown - switch to ATI graphics card in bios (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650) - place laptop in docking station with second monitor connected - boot - gdm autologin into unity And then the only wallpaper is displayed, but no unity or anything else. Then repeatingly every 3 or 4 seconds the screen gets black and the wallpaper is displayed again. Occasionally the XServer freezes (laptop display turns black and looks like it melts). Switching to a console and running service gdm restart as root brings up unity without further issues then. I've placed a similar comment on issue #772513. The issue is still there for me on a fully updated Ubuntu 11.04. Attached is the output of dmesg before restarting gdm. Maybe the line [ 60.180068] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 1msec is of interested as it was written on console while it happened. Please let me know if you need additional information. + --- + Architecture: amd64 + CompizPlugins: + Error: command ['gconftool-2', '--get', '/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins'] failed with exit code -6: ** + GLib-GIO:ERROR:/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./gio/gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection-initialization_error == NULL) + DistUpgraded: Fresh install + DistroCodename: natty + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 + DistroVariant: ubuntu + GconfCompiz: + Error: command ['gconftool-2', '-R', '/apps/compiz-1'] failed with exit code -6: ** + GLib-GIO:ERROR:/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.28.6/./gio/gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection-initialization_error == NULL) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Alpha amd64 (20110201.2) + InstallationMedia_: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Alpha amd64 (20110201.2) + InstallationMedia__: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Alpha amd64 (20110201.2) + Package: unity 3.8.16-0ubuntu1~natty1 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcEnviron: + LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en_GB:en + LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-11.47-generic 2.6.38.8 + ProcVersionSignature_: Ubuntu 2.6.38-11.47-generic 2.6.38.8 + ProcVersionSignature__: Ubuntu 2.6.38-11.47-generic 2.6.38.8 + Tags: natty natty natty ubuntu + Uname: Linux 2.6.38-11-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: + + version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty2 + version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu13 + version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 + version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 + version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A + version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 + version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1 + version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4.1 + version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1 + version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 ** Attachment added: Dependencies.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810283/+attachment/575/+files/Dependencies.txt ** Description changed: Unity/Xserver crashes in the following situation: - switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel) - boot - gdm autologin into unity -- everything works fine - shutdown - switch to ATI graphics card in bios (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650) - place laptop in docking station with second monitor connected - boot - gdm autologin into unity And then the only wallpaper is displayed, but no unity or anything else.
