[Bug 1866217] [NEW] Mouse pointer vanished on Wayland (okay on X)

2020-03-05 Thread Andi Chandler
Public bug reported:

Running 20.04 with all the repos enabled (including focal-proposed)

A recent update (apt-get dist-upgrade) made the mouse point disappear.

The mouse worked on a text console... and lsusb etc showed the presence of the
mouse.
In Wayland, pressing control key showed the pointer location.

Resolution
Edited /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncommented "WaylandEnable=false"
Rebooted a mouse pointer is now back.

Wayland device driver problem?

I had seen comments in forums referring to similar problems in kernel
5.3.0 - and a kernel fix release to resolve.

But this PC is running 5.4.0

[Bug 1758756] Re: Can't resize GTK 3 windows by clicking in the border

2020-03-02 Thread Andi Dhroso
I had the same issue on Kubuntu 18.04.4, but I was able to overcome it
by disabling the window style under appearance (Disable CSD). See
attached screenshot.

Hope this helps!

[Bug 1852435] Re: Boots fine with 5.3.0-19, doesn't boot any more with 5.3.0-22

2019-11-22 Thread Andi
Hi Tyler,

I'm also affected from this issue and tried your suggested kernel parameters on
5.3.0-22:
- mitigations=off
- dis_ucode_ldr
- mitigations=off dis_ucode_ldr
but nothing booted
I also tried 5.3.0-23/5.3.0-24 with no success.
And yes, I use full disk encryption with LUKS + LVM.

Any other suggestions?

gives me the option of using kvantum theming for the few QT apps I do
use like kvantum-adapa, kvantum-materia & kvantum-arc. I'm a bit small
like that on theming, sorry! Thanks for the response & update.

[Bug 1730540] Re: gnome-shell freezes after resume then unlock

2018-02-01 Thread Andi
Hi!

I've got the same problem on a debian unstable.

I solved it by resetting the desktop environment.
You may want to save your configuration first (i forgot it ;))
dconf dump
This is the command for the hard reset - use it with caution:
dconf reset -f /

Bug description:
I'm not sure what caused the bug. But one thing i did was creating a second
user via gnome and deleting it a few days later.

The same problem also appeared always when i used the gnome shell search
or application menu.

After a few seconds, the window decorators disappeared and then the
session stopped. I got back to the gdm.

[Bug 1428961] Re: idmapd not started when booting under systemd

2016-06-16 Thread andi bachmann
I have the same experience as described in the original bug description. My
system is running
on ubuntu 16.04 and I've installed `nfs-common` (client-only, I don't want
`nfs-server` on the system).

# systemctl -a list-unit-files *idmap*
UNIT FILE STATE
idmapd.service masked
nfs-idmapd.service static

# systemctl status nfs-idmapd -l
● nfs-idmapd.service - NFSv4 ID-name mapping service
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/nfs-idmapd.service; static; vendor
preset: enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)

And starting does not work:
# systemctl start nfs-idmapd
Failed to start nfs-idmapd.service: Unit nfs-server.service not found.

Do I understand you, @pitti in #11 correctly that `nfs-server` needs to
be installed?

thanks for clarifying!

[Bug 1272229] [NEW] Cannot mount iPhone 5

2014-01-24 Thread andi bachmann
Public bug reported:

libimobiledevice-utils_1.1.5-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb

Repro:
1) Plug powered-on Apple device with iOS 7 into Ubuntu USB port

Expected results:
The device should pair with the Ubuntu machine when Trust is tapped.

Actual results:
When plugged into an Ubuntu machine, when the Trust button on the prompt is
clicked, the iPhone buzzes twice, then repeats the prompt. This will repeat
endlessly.

On the Ubuntu machine, a dialog reading The device [name of device]
is locked. Enter the passcode on the device and click Try again.
[Cancel] [Try again] is displayed. However, no opportunity to enter the
passcode on the device is ever displayed. Clicking Try again only re-
displays this dialog, endlessly.

[Bug 1251576] Re: Update to 25.0.1

Does this address any or all of CVE-2013-1739, CVE-2013-1741,
CVE-2013-2566, CVE-2013-5605, CVE-2013-5606, CVE-2013-5607?

Or different known (as in: has a CVE Number) issue(s)?

If so, I suggest putting the specifics of this information into the
changelog and description of this ticket instead of ... or a reference
to the empty ticket.

2013-07-19 Thread Andi Moeller
Dear John,

I had reduced the reserved extra space to zero because I do not need this
for a simple installation.
This bug is not related with the space available on the USB storage. I have
tried different devices.
Copying the files to the USB storage always stops at 41% regardless of the
type in use.

Many regards
Andi

Try reducing the Stored in reserved extra space to less than 500mb or
disabling using the Discarded on shutdown... radio button.

[Bug 1020759]

2013-02-10 Thread Andi-1
I'm using Ubuntu (Xubuntu), and starting with 12.10 my USB flash drives
and USB hard discs are mounted to /media/$USER/ instead of /media/. As
far as I know, this is because of the change discussed in this bug
report.

When I'm logged in as user X and plug a USB device, no one but user X
can access to this device. That's a problem for me (and - in my opinion
- a bug).

Usually there are two, three of four accounts working on my computer
simultaneously. They all need access to some data on USB devices. I use
ext3/ext4 file permissions on my USB devices to control, who is allowed
to access which data.

This worked with Ubuntu 12.04, but it doesn't work any more with Ubuntu
12.10. Authorized users can't access their data any more, because they
can't access to /media/$USER.

Is it possible to allow all users to access to any plugged USB device?
If yes: How can I get this behaviour. If no: When this bug is
estimated to be repaired?

Thanks

Andi

[Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white

2013-01-26 Thread Andi Hafner
Hi there...

Finally I got a solution: I installed emerald-0.9.5 from source this
morning and the blank white windows are gone, focus-animation dodge is
working fine, awesome!

The further hard- software-configuration is like described in my post
#152 as Configuration #3.

To compile emerald-0.9.5 for ubuntu 12.04.1 I followed the description
at http://handytutorial.com/install-emerald-in-ubuntu-12-04-12-10/;.

The first attempt failed with make complaining missing dependencies. I
found the fix at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emerald/+bug/968112; in post
#7, there is a further environment-variable to set before: 'export
LIBS=-ldl -lm'. Great thanks to user MC Return!

After that, the package built successfully (I used checkinstall
instead of make install to get a installable package).

I'm very happy to have emerald back in 12.04 and that the blank white
windows are gone ;-) Thank you all out there for your great work and
wish you a nice weekend...

[Bug 729979] Re: [nvidia] Windows appear blank white

2013-01-24 Thread Andi Hafner
Hi everyone.

Just another report of which configurations are working and which don't.
But with these results, it seems for me to be an nvidia-driver issue, as
the last two setups mainly differ in the OpenGL-driver (except in the
cpu-architecture).

-

Configuration #1:

Focus-Animation-Effect Dodge IS WORKING GREAT for me with the
following setup:

OS-Version: Ubuntu 12.10
Kernel-Version: Linux 3.5.0-22-generic (i686)
(Virtual)Machine: VirtualBox 4.2.6 r82870
Desktop-Environment:Mate 1.4.2
Display-Server: X.Org Version 1.13.0
OpenGL-Driver: VMware Inc. Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe 2.1 Mesa 9.0 with
direct rendering
Compiz-Version: 0.9.8.6

-

Configuration #2:

Focus-Animation-Effect Dodge IS ALSO WORKING GREAT for me with the
following setup:

OS-Version: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Kernel-Version: 3.2.0-36-generic (i686)
(Virtual)Machine: VirtualBox 4.2.6 r82870
Desktop-Environment:Mate 1.4.2
Display-Server: X.Org Version 1.11.3
OpenGL-Driver: Humper 2.1 Chromium 1.9 with direct rendering
Compiz-Version: 0.9.7.12

-

Configuration #3:

Focus-Animation-Effect Dodge DOESN'T WORK for me (producing white
windows) with the following setup:

OS-Version: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Kernel-Version: 3.2.0-36-generic (x86_64)
Machine:ASUS-Rampage III with Intel Core i7-930 with NVIDIA
GeForce GTX 260
Desktop-Environment:Mate 1.4.2
Display-Server: X.Org Version 1.11.3
OpenGL-Driver: NVIDIA 304.64 with direct rendering
Compiz-Version: 0.9.7.12

All other Compositing-Effects I've activated, and there are a lot of
them ;-), are working great with both configurations, except the Focus
Animations.

-

I've noticed, that the OpenGL-Driver in configuration #2 is running much
fluently than that one of configuration #1 but both are working at
least, in opposite of the nvidia-driver in configuration #3.

I wasn't looking for further, but are there any recent setups with the
nvidia-driver which are working with the focus-animation-effects out
there?

Any further ideas? This bug is really nagging me, although dodging
windows are a gadget, but it's a nice one ;-)

[Bug 1075484] [NEW] upgrade of mysql-server-5.1 to 5.1.66-0ubuntu0.10.04.1 removed InnoDB datafiles

2012-11-06 Thread andi mery

about the missing runtime/nagios_instances table is a result of the
update.

It's hard for me to reproduce this bug since it happend automatically.
I've restored the data from a backup in the meantime and since this is

i've looked into the changes between .63 and .66 bug couldn't find
anything that would explain that behaviour.

[Bug 871611] Re: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem

2012-09-28 Thread andi
sorry ... after reboot everything works quite fine although not bug-free
... forget the points B,C,X... and Y1

Z) current state after reboot is:

- additional Soundcard elements appeared: Headphon, Auto Mute,
Mic Boos

- volume states before/after headphone insertion are remembered, but
not applied e.g. to the Speaker or Headphon sliders, but the
Master volume (e.g. Master:100%, Speaker:80% on 1. may be
Master:80%,Speaker:100% on 3.)

- muting Speaker or Headphon also mutes Master and this is not easily
undone (using Gnome Alsa Mixer) so you can hear something again (exact
behaviour somewhat unclear)
= solution is to unmute and increase the System Settings-Sound-Output
Volume

[Bug 871611] Re: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem

2012-09-27 Thread andi
It's still not completely solved. I am running Mint 13 Maya:

Problem A) as saepia said - one has to manually add options snd-hda-
intel ... and do some alsa force-reload or restart to fix the 1.
speaker -2. headphone insertion -3. speaker-not-working-anymore issue

Problem B) but still the Speaker volume 0% = Ss1 = 100% of 1. is not
remembered, but instead it goes to 100% on 3.

Problem C) and the Speaker volume (curiously adjusting the headphone
volume as well) 0% = Sh2 = 100% of 2. is not remembered on -4.
headphone insertion

= it seems the logical-physical relationship between the Soundcard
elements: Speaker and PCM is not correctly mapped by the driver:

State X) currently:

State Xs) no headphone inserted: Speaker, PCM and Master add up to the
resulting volume of the notebook speakers VS
= thus 3. is actually quite bad here since it may significantly increase
speaker volume VS3 in opposition to VS1 (=VS3-(1-Ss1))

State Xh) headphone inserted: Speaker, PCM and Master add up to the
resulting volume of the headphone VH
= thus 2./4. are actually quite bad here since they may significantly
lower the headphone volume VH2/VH4 (VH4=VH2-Sh2)

=
Solution Y1) driver behaviour should be: B and C Speaker volume should not be
touched at all on headphone insertion/removal, which would also eliminate the
problem of the remembering of the speaker/headphone volume

maybe some existing model=??? other than auto may already do Y1 ...
if I find time I'll play with this

[Bug 871611] Re: [TOSHIBA NB100, Realtek ALC262, Green Headphone Out, Rear] volume slider problem

2012-09-27 Thread andi
additional info that may be of interest:

on headphone insertion (2./4.) the Speaker Mute

- is automatically set to mute enabled, but
- has no effect (headphones are not muted either way)

and on headphone removal (3.) the Speaker Mute is enabled again

- another related bug just found: muting the Speaker (if headphone is
removed) won't make it produce any sound again (even after alsa force-restart)
(headphones still work on insertion)
(somehow the master volume seems to be effected by this as well because it
will jump to 0% and muted if one plays with the Speaker or PCM volumes in
Gnome Alsamixer afterwards)

enabling/disabling menu-bar-mode has no effect and the behavior is
reproducible by just turning off tool-bar-mode.

[Bug 941790] [NEW] Emacs window shrinks automatically

2012-02-26 Thread Andi Albrecht
Public bug reported:

When starting Emacs without tool-bar and without menu-bar the windows
shrinks automatically to the size of one (text) line.

To reproduce, run current Unity desktop (5.4.0-0ubuntu2) and start Emacs
with the following command line:

emacs23 -Q --execute (progn (tool-bar-mode 0)(menu-bar-mode 0))

Note that both toolbar and menubar have to be disabled to see the
shrinking behavior.

FWIW, here's a video that illustrates the behavior:

[Bug 940267] Re: USB keyboard and mouse can't be used after shutdown and power on

2012-02-24 Thread Andi
** Description changed:

I initially reported this bug in Ubuntu 11.04
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/786272). Maybe
  somebody can reactivate bug #786272...

  ---

If I shutdown 11.10 the computer finally turns off. But the mouse light
sometimes remains lit. If I turn on the computer again, the BIOS does
not recognize my USB keyboard and mouse. I saw that the three LEDs on
  the keyboard were blinking.

As a result, no OS is able to initialize and use the keyboard and mouse.
I have to unplug the power chord and wait until the power supply is
discharged or unplug the keyboard and mouse. Then the mouse and keyboard
  functions completely ok.

+ This bug also exists in Fedora 16 3.1.7 kernels. 3.1.7 worked well for
+ me.

hm, the other bug can't be found (404)... once again Launchpad is
fooling bug reporters and speaking for myself I'm loosing interest in
reporting bugs at all.

2011-09-01 Thread Andi Chandler
This is happening quite frequently when I boot the laptop and login.
It's running the last Alpha's of OO.. I update pretty much everyday.

So the only steps to reproduce are to login!!

Not sure if that is much help!

2011-08-24 Thread Andi Chandler
Hi,

No, this happened just after I logged into the laptop.
Didn't do anything with the Dropbox application... it was just running in
the background with an icon in the Taskbar.
It is running as a normal user, not as root.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Andi

Hello, thank you for your report. Did you run dropbox update manually
or was this during a package upgrade?

Also did you run it as root or as normal user?

[Bug 780972] Re: desktopcouch-service crashed with Unauthorized in request(): ('unauthorized', 'Authentication required.')

2011-08-08 Thread Andi Albrecht
Roman Yepishev: Thanks! I've tried to remove the desktop-couch
directories before, but didn't deleted the credentials in
gnome-keyring. However, when deleting the credentials from keyring,
the directories and restarting desktopcouch I run into the same
problems.

Is it a problem that the credentials show up twice after this
procedure?

[Bug 815114] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::Area::FindKeyFocusArea()

2011-08-07 Thread Andi Albrecht
It seems that I'm able to reproduce it in the following way:

- log into Unity desktop
- hit Alt-F2
- enter a command that opens a window (for me it's a bash script that runs
gnome-terminal attaching to a screen session on a remote machine)

But I'm not really sure yet, that this always brings this bug up

[Bug 810283] Re: Unity/Xserver crashes when in docking station

2011-07-21 Thread Andi Albrecht
Hi Harry,

thanks for picking this up. And sorry for comments #3 and #4, I'm not
really familiar with Apport and obviously did something strange. And I'm
not sure if I did something strange too when it uploaded the other batch
of files, so sorry for spamming :)

In addition to the files uploaded by apport, I'm attaching some
extracted parts of my syslog from today's failed attempt to bring up
unity. GPU lockup and Call Trace at the bottom of that file.

I'm not using the propietary drivers for my graphics card btw.

Andi

[Bug 810283] Re: Unity/Xserver crashes when in docking station

2011-07-20 Thread Andi Albrecht
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty ubuntu

** Description changed:

Unity/Xserver crashes in the following situation:

  - switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel)
  - boot
  - gdm autologin into unity -- everything works fine
  - shutdown
  - switch to ATI graphics card in bios (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon
HD 3650)
  - place laptop in docking station with second monitor connected
  - boot
  - gdm autologin into unity

And then the only wallpaper is displayed, but no unity or anything else.
Then repeatingly every 3 or 4 seconds the screen gets black and the
wallpaper is displayed again. Occasionally the XServer freezes (laptop
display turns black and looks like it melts). Switching to a console
and running service gdm restart as root brings up unity without
  further issues then.

I've placed a similar comment on issue #772513. The issue is still there
for me on a fully updated Ubuntu 11.04.

Attached is the output of dmesg before restarting gdm. Maybe the line

[ 60.180068] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than
  1msec

is of interested as it was written on console while it happened.

Please let me know if you need additional information.

** Attachment added: Dependencies.txt

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/810283/+attachment/575/+files/Dependencies.txt
