[Bug 1733888] Re: iwlwifi Error sending STATISTICS_CMD: time out after 2000ms.
Taking it back, after almost one week of testing the bug sometimes comes back. I use my laptop on different places and I've noticed that in some networks the problem is more likely to appear than in others. In some the problem never appears, it might be pure chance though. This problem often comes together with kernel freezes where not even SysRq commands respond. I'm not sure if I have to or should post logs nor which logs to post to complement this comments. I'll keep an eye here and post anything you need, however, my logs look extremely similar to the ones of Ville Ranki. I think it's also important to mention that I have a fresh installation, 1 week old, no funny business there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733888 Title: iwlwifi Error sending STATISTICS_CMD: time out after 2000ms. I don't have wine installed, and the problem persists with the last kernel 3.18.4 and 3.18.5, and the last nvidia drivers, 346.35, i think the problem is the dkms, Today i updated the virtualbox and the module was compiled fine. [Bug 1178825] [NEW] [USB-Audio - Plantronics GameCom 780] Terrible support for this headset
Public bug reported: Today I bought a Plantronics GameCom 780 headset, I pluged into the USB port whishing it would work out of the box, but it didn't properly. First of all, I'm using Kubuntu 13.04, Linux Kernel version is 3.8.0-19, and, for example, I can't hear nothing if volume is less than 24%, if I put it at 20% I won't hear anything, it gets muted. Micprohone is working quite well, but the function Loudness isn't working, I typed Alsamixer and I selected the soundcard of the headset, Loudness appears there but it appears desactivated, and I can't enable it :/ My problems seems to be similar to this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/961481 Do you know if this will be solved in future versions of the Linux Kernel? maybe with a new PulseAudio version? what about Alsamixer? [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()
@costamagnagianfranco: I managed to install skype again removing this and other files that apt-get was complaining about, thanks. I tried then to change the LD_PRELOAD path as @Gunnar said: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 but the library in not there neither. I looked for it and I can find it here /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1 which means that now does exist under i386-linux-gnu. [Bug 435930] Re: Guest session does not warn about temporary nature of files
My mother hit this bug this week when a cousin came home for an afternoon of work and the next day... it was all gone! They called me and I thought: it makes sense, Mac OS guest session also deletes everything, maybe they didn't read the warning... but let me check. WHAT? No warning anywhere. Hard to defend a design decision like this... Then I thought: maybe it's because their system is using 11.10, for sure it must be resolved now and I can defend my beloved Ubuntu. Silly me! This bug, which is probably ridiculously easy to solve (**2 dialog boxes**), is opened since 2009, and not only that... in Launchpad it is considered a nice to have. Left me speechless. I've been using Ubuntu since 5.04 and I love how it has progressed, it's so polished now and so friendly *on the surface* for even the most unexperienced users [ok there's the Unity love/hate thing]. I thought it had managed to merge the best of the Open Source philosophy with a strong user-oriented product vision, and that it would only be a matter of time that people would see this, maybe with Ubuntu running on their phones, same as the iPhone brought people to OSX. But I was wrong, otherwise this would be a critical-level bug and no new distro would ship without it fixed. Now you can say: why don't you fix it yourself, this is how OpenSource works, etc, etc. But please note: 1) AFAIK some people are paid to work on Ubuntu, 2) gunnarhj **already solved this bug** in his Forums thread as a comment **from 2010** points out. All it takes is a Product Owner / UX manager to say: bring it in. But I guess that figure doesn't exist (I thought it was Mark S.) and so the user experience for people who don't know what 'sudo' is suffers and Ubuntu/Linux remains a niche OS for the geeks. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 268663 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268663 ** Description changed: This is a very annoying and long standing bug (from at least two ubuntu releases ago), that it could be easily fixed. I hope that it can get some attention from Paper Cuts side. When creating a new share with Nautilus once you create a Public folder you cannot edit any of the contents created by guest users. The files will have ownership set to user nobody and group nogroup, making it imposible to delete or modify by the user who created the share folder. Of course that from command line you can change that, but it is very annoying having to change permissions from command line, before being able to edit any file on the sharing folder. Also this is a security issue as a guest user can fill up your hard drive with junk and the owner of the share won't be able to delete it or move it (easily of course). - This bug is already triaged from long time ago in (but it seems that nobody is working on it) + This bug is already confirmed long time ago in (but it seems that nobody is working on it) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/268663 -- Files incoming through nautilus-share should be created with user ownership, instead of nobody https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410669 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu (via bug 268663). -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I tried deleting the plugin IcedTeaPlugin and the package java-jre6-plugin but instead of going better, everything has gone worse: ( I have reinstalled firefox and the bar would not update addresses as addresses were changing (eg. showing www.google.com when i was on yahoo website and the previous page visited was google). Also buttons for previous and next page don't displayed correctly . Not to mention that bookmarks menu appeared empty. Re: [Bug 268663] Re: files incoming through nautilus-share should be created with user ownership, instead of nobody
Yes, this is the problem. Once somebody places any file into this folder, this file has owner: nobody group: nobody. So this means that I cannot delete (because I don't own them) the files created on my share folder! (I need to go to command line chown, etc...) [Bug 203938] Re: Nautilus Drag and Drop Improvement
Thank you Sebastien, I've been reading in the upstream bug and it seems that this thing has been discussed for a while, but I don't see any clear conclusion. First of all reading the patent 6061061 below, I don't thing that we would be using any temporary window so this patent shouldn't apply, perhaps that how KDE implemented it. patent 6061061 A new behavior in a graphical user interface allows the user to open and close enclosures, while dragging an object. When the user pauses, gestures, or rolls over a hot spot on top of an icon or text representing a closed enclosure, a TEMPORARY WINDOW for the closed enclosure is sprung open to allow the user to browse inside the enclosure and possible open another enclosure contained within the temporary window. This process can be carried on throughout a hierarchy of windows as the user browses for a destination window for the drag operation. All of the TEMPORARY WINDOWS except the destination are closed when the mouse button is released, signaling the end of a drag. The user may close sprung open windows by simply moving the cursor out of the sprung open window, or by making some other gesture. If an enclosure to be sprung open was previously open on the desktop, the previously opened window may zoom over to the current mouse position, and then return to its original position when the user mouse is out of the window. I think that making hovering an object over another one for X time the same effect as a click, is a much more general (and powerful) feature and this patent doesn't apply. -- Nautilus Drag and Drop Improvement https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 203938] Re: Nautilus Drag and Drop Improvement
I checked both patents 6,061,061 and 5,583,984 and in both cases the description is the same. In the abstract of both patents they always remark about opening TEMPORARY Windows. That's not our case from my point of view. We could just left open all our windows, so they wouldn't be temporal. In both patents they don't say nothing about making the same action as clicking buttons while dragging an object over it. -- Nautilus Drag and Drop Improvement https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 202605] Re: Network Manager Applet Has Trouble With Static IP Address
I also confirm this problem In order to setup the network we can do two things: Assuming that our network interface is eth0, go to terminal and do: sudo ifup eth0 everytime we boot our computer. or we can also do as a permanent solution Add to the /etc/network/interfaces file auto eth0 as in the example below auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 This line is missing in the original file. iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 --- REBOOT our computer. I've been looking for the patent you mentioned. Could you pass me a link regarding this patents information? Anyway the Gnome Taskbar already has this kind of behaviour, while dragging any file over the taskbar, windows get maximized or focused automatically after waiting 1 sec. Just making that while dragging any item and waiting 1 sec over a menu or icon the same effect as mouse click (or double click over icon) would give us a very powerful tool. We could do for example when sending an email: Drag a file by clicking and holding the left mouse button. Move the mouse over the evolution Icon. Wait 1 sec (Evolution which was closed, opens) Move mouse over new message button Wait 1 sec (New message window opens) Release mouse button.
