I am fine with mine for now. But what i was saying is that if there were
more users of DELL AIO with Ubuntu it might be easier to notify the devs
about this bug and others :)

If i am correct, linux-generic-hwe-22.04 now offers 6.8.0-40-generic
instead of 6.5.xx but sadly no dell-uart-backlight kernel module is

[Bug 2049248] Re: Kernel 6.5 breaks display brightness controls and sets it to 100% all the time

2024-06-30 Thread Pierre-Benoit MERLAND
Hi,

I confirm that, at least for my configuration (Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO), kernels
6.5 and 6.8 breaks display brightness controls.

Tested 22.04.4 LTS linux-generic-hwe-22.04, so 6.5.0-41 at this time, and 24.04
with a live USB (so 6.8 kernel) i cant adjust brightness. The slider is no
longer visible.

So for now i stick with 22.04 and 5.15 GA kernel. As everything is
working well with this configuration. It was also working well with some
6.2 version (tested for example 23.04 OS with live USB)

Thanks

[Bug 2067498] Re: Can't control display backlight in 24.04 on Dell AIO system

2024-06-29 Thread Pierre-Benoit MERLAND
I personally did not try to install 23.04 and anything above 22.04 LTS.
Just 24.04 with a live usb and the bug was present.

At the moment every version of 6.5 kernel i updated to broke the
brightness slider. Maybe i missed a few version as for me, using the
5.15 GA kernel is good for now.

I hope this bug can be fixed before the end of support for 22.04 and 5.15
kernel lol
And i want to test the new version of the OS ;-)

Yes that's it.

Bug seems clearly related to use of 6.x kernel no matter the system
version as i am using Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS and you are using a newer OS
version.

[Bug 2067498] Re: Can't control display backlight in 24.04 on Dell AIO system

2024-06-28 Thread Pierre-Benoit MERLAND
Using 5.15 kernel :

There is in /sys/class/backlight a dell_uart_backlight folder with 10
items in it.

Not sure it's really a folder, more a link to an other folder as i see this in
Nautilus properties :
../../devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/PNP0A08:00/device:3a/DELL0501:00/backlight/dell_uart_backlight

If i use a 6.X kernel, folder /sys/class/backlight/ is empty.

Sorry if it's not clear enough, i can speak english a bit but it's not
my native language.

2024-06-28 Thread Pierre-Benoit MERLAND
@ heynnema

I'havent checked /sys/class/backlight wile i was using 6.x kernel.

With 6.x kernel, adding acpi_backlight=vendor" to /etc/default/grub did not
fixed things for me.
Also tried :
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
and
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=intel"

from this community ubuntu website (https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/retro-

[Bug 1885089] [NEW] Fail to update DNS settings

2020-06-25 Thread Benoit MORDAC
Public bug reported:

When connecting using Network-manager to a FortiSSL VPN, the DNS
settings are not updated.

This was working fine on previous Ubuntu release (same VPN account and
gateway). Now I can see in logs the VPN correctly bring up and get
nameserver settings :

Jun 25 09:39:11 LH25450 systemd-udevd[106389]: ethtool: autonegotiation is

But when looking for interface state using the nmcli, ppp0 is displayed

And if I try to resolv an internal hostname, it fails :

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04

2020-04-01 Thread Benoit Tainturier
I didn't know that X11 and Gnome had two separate clipboards. In my previous
example, I only used my keyboard.
I rebooted my computer this morning and copy/paste fail as usual with my
keyboard. However, I tried the middle click of my mouse and it works (at least
in LibreOffice). So this bug is not from X11.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04

2020-03-31 Thread Benoit Tainturier
Fun fact: today, after many hours of failed copy/paste with Ubuntu 19.10,
things have changed. Copy/paste works perfectly well in LibreOffice and any
other software. But if I copy a text in a software and paste it in another
software, the text pasted is *different*.
For example, I can copy "word1" in Firefox and then paste "word1" in
LibreOffice (it works). Then I copy "word2" in LibreOffice and paste "word2" in
LibreOffice (it works). Then I paste "word1" in Firefox (it's weird!). At this
point, I paste "word2" in LibreOffice and "word1" in Firefox.

Adam: I am using Ubuntu 19.10, LibreOffice 6.3.4.2, and a default session (X11).
Actually, copy/paste worked really better on the 1st of February and during the
days after. I thought it was fixed! Today, the issue is exactly the same as
before.

unfortunately, same results with BIOS AUCN54WW (manually installed,
since not offered by either lenovo system update nor windows update).
Same symptoms.

Same symptoms also on with kernel mainline 5.5.3

For reference, dock firmware is V3.1.66

[Bug 1860284] Re: thinkpad thunderbolt 3 dock gen2 with pci memory allocation errors on Yoga C940 unless plugged in before boot

2020-02-04 Thread Benoit Grégoire
With kernel mainline 5.5.1, it does get a little bit further, only BAR
14 and 0 fail to assign on the second try. See attached dmesg. But
symptoms are still identical: no peripherals work except for video.

Any way I can systematically search for a workaround using pci= kernel
parameters?

[Bug 1860284] [NEW] thinkpad thunderbolt 3 dock gen2 does not work on Yoga C940 unless plugged in before boot

2020-01-19 Thread Benoit Grégoire
Public bug reported:

I have thinkpad thunderbolt 3 dock gen2 dock I am trying to use with a
New Lenovo Yoga C940 laptop.

- The dock works fine when plugged-in before boot.
- The dock does NOT work when plugged after the system booted.
- The dock does NOT work when plugged-in at boot, subsequently unplugged and
plugged back in.

When it fails, it fails with memory allocation messages such as:

[  342.507320] pci :2b:00.0: BAR 14: no space for [mem size 0x0c20]
[  342.507323] pci :2b:00.0: BAR 14: failed to assign [mem size 0x0c20]

Things I tried:
- Kernel mainline 5.4.12, same symptoms
- Kernel mainline 5.5.-rc6,
same symptoms.
- Plugging it after powering up the laptop, but at the grub screen before boot.
 In this case the dock works fine after boot.

Other potentially useful information to narrow it down:

- The tests were done with only an ethernet cable and power plugged into the
dock to minimize the number of moving parts...
- Dock and laptop both have the very latest firmware as of 2020-01-17.
- The displayport part of the dock always work, but all other ports (USB,
ethernet, card readers fail) when plugged-in after boot.
- Doesn't seem to be a thunderbolt authorization problem:

[Bug 1851311] Re: Grub 2.04 Out of memory error, No server error

2020-01-16 Thread Benoit THIBAUD
The problem doesn't come from the casper package. The problem is in the
grub-efi-amd64-bin package (latest version tested:2.04-1ubuntu16).
Actually, it's the file grubx64.efi inside this package
(/usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/monolithic/grubx64.efi).

menuentry "..Xubuntu  test daily" {
set isofile="/isos/focal-desktop-amd64.iso"
search --set=root --file $isofile
loopback loop $isofile
linux (loop)/casper/vmlinuz iso-scan/filename=$isofile boot=casper
noprompt quiet splash --
initrd (loop)/casper/initrd
}

menuentry "..Xubuntu Default cd Menu" {
iso_path="/isos/focal-desktop-amd64.iso"
export iso_path
search --set=root --file $iso_path
loopback loop $iso_path
root=(loop)
configfile /boot/grub/loopback.cfg
loopback --delete loop
}

It doesn't work in 2.04 grub version. So I experienced something.

1-  I downloaded the 2.02 grub-efi-amd64-bin package from here:

https://packages.ubuntu.com/disco-updates/amd64/grub-efi-amd64-bin/download

2- I opened the deb package with my archive manager

3-  I extracted the file: grubx64.efi
(from /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/monolithic/)

4- I launched efibootmgr in a terminal to be sure where to copy it

5- I copied it in the right folder in /boot/efi
sudo cp grubx64.efi /boot/efi/EFI/xubuntu/.

After that, both menus worked fine (in a 2.02 grub)!

[Bug 1826664] [NEW] mythtv is built without libhdhomerun in disco

2019-04-27 Thread Benoit Grégoire
Public bug reported:

It causes the popular hdhomerun tuners to stop working. It's probably
missing a builddep libhdhomerun-dev

Just rebuilding the package with the following causes libhdhomerun to be

[Bug 1785502] Re: package redmine 3.4.4-1 failed to install/upgrade: installed redmine package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-08-24 Thread Benoit Blais
I made it installs correctly.
Since I had a backup, I decided to reinstall completely from scratch (which
didn't work at first...)

And since I don't know what was necessary and what wasn't, here is all
I've done to do so:

# removed completely (answered yes to database removal)
apt remove -y redmine
apt autoremove -y
# fixed the rake problem for install
rm /usr/local/bin/rake
# reinstalled
apt install redmine
service redmine start
# it started but as a new install, will now try to restore backup...

What I know for sure is the problem is coming from the /usr/local/bin/rake file
(which refers to ruby2.3)

Should give you a hint on how to fix this ;)

I have the same problem. The workaround for the kernel parameter work
very well.

[Bug 1721619] [NEW] Mouse ignored by Xorg

2017-10-05 Thread Kristian Benoit
Public bug reported:

Resizing a window with the mouse, the pointer got stuck with the
resizing icon. The cursor was still (visually) moving. I used xev to try
figuring out what Xorg was receiving. Weird, xev was reporting nothing,
not even mouse moves (from what I remember, it is not drawn by
software). I have 2 mice and they where both behaving the same. I switch
to console and cat /dev/input/mice, both mice where working fine. I
tried to find a way to reset (only) the pointer but could not find any,
is there ? Then I killed Xorg witch was restarted automatically and the
pointer was fine.

You should have all the hardware info, but I'm using a mac mini 5,1 and
a magic mouse.

[Bug 1577093] Re: libreoffice-gtk conflicts with large lo-writer file

2016-08-10 Thread Benoit Tainturier
I've got 3 computers at home (2 desktop and 1 laptop).
This bug clearly affect 2 computers (a desktop and my Asus UX305-FA).
Libreoffice is unusable with big files (more than 100 pages). Removing
libreoffice-gtk resolve the issue.
My third computer (desktop) is not affected, but Libreoffice is a bit slow with
big files.

This bug appeared with Ubuntu 16.04. Everything was fine with Ubuntu
15.10 and earlier.

[Bug 1576578] [NEW] dh-php no longer support multiple bin-packages

2016-04-29 Thread Benoit Foucher
Public bug reported:

The dh-php helper used to support source packages that created multiple
binary packages. This is no longer the case as it now requires a .php
configuration file for each of the binary package defined in
debian/control.

The following check in /usr/bin/dh_php could be relaxed to instead continue if
the configuration file isn't found:
error(".php configuration file is needed for dh_php") unless ($file);

[Bug 257857] Re: openjdk-6-jdk should depend on openjdk-6-jre-headless too

2015-07-20 Thread Benoit Sigoure
There are various non-GUI debugging tools (jps, jstack, jstat, etc) that
only come with the -jdk package, yet are very useful for debugging on
servers. The compilation tools (javac) are very useful in headless CI
environments. It's kind of a shame that we have to pull all these X11,
Gnome and other sound-system dependencies on a lot of servers, all for
nothing.

[Bug 1365695] Re: No longer able to use GUI after update

2015-07-14 Thread benoit
Hi,

I have tried to install the last nvidia-352 from the following ppa
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive to replace nvidia-340. I still have
a black screen with the lightdm music when I start my computer (Asus 64 bits:
ubuntu 14.04: Optimus technology).
The workaround I currently use is to set my computer in sleep mode (Fn+F1 on my
keyboard) and to wake it up just after (Fn+F1 again). Then the screen works
fine with the nvidia card. If it can help...

[Bug 1458869] [NEW] multiseat doesn't work after upgrading to 1.14

2015-05-26 Thread Benoit Barthelet
Public bug reported:

I read that from 1.10 to 1.14 things changed and that i need to use logind. So
I removed files that were working with lightdm 1.10 and tried to set it up the
"logind" way.
I removed my xorg.conf and got a bare lightdm.conf (see below)
Am I overlooking something obvious that prevent the second X server to launch
properly like it used to with version 1.10 ?

thanks

I got 2 GPU, 2 screens.
I configured logind that way :
loginctl attach seat-1
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:07.0/:03:00.0/drm/card1
loginctl attach seat-1
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:07.0/:03:00.0/graphics/fb1
loginctl attach seat-1
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:07.0/:03:00.1/sound/card2
loginctl attach seat-1 /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1d.2/usb8

resulting in those udev rules :
cat /etc/udev/rules.d/72-seat-drm-pci-_03_00_0.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/72-seat-graphics-pci-_03_00_0.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/72-seat-sound-pci-_03_00_1.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/72-seat-usb-pci-_00_1d_2.rules

TAG=="seat", ENV{ID_FOR_SEAT}=="drm-pci-_03_00_0", ENV{ID_SEAT}="seat-1"
TAG=="seat", ENV{ID_FOR_SEAT}=="graphics-pci-_03_00_0",
ENV{ID_SEAT}="seat-1"
TAG=="seat", ENV{ID_FOR_SEAT}=="sound-pci-_03_00_1", ENV{ID_SEAT}="seat-1"

[Bug 1456793] [NEW] Wrong entities in ISOamsr.ent of xml-iso-entities-8879.1986

2015-05-19 Thread Benoit Guillon
Public bug reported:

The bug occurs in my current install, but I think it is still there in
the last sgml-data release (0.2.10)

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
Release:12.04
sgml-data: 2.0.6

What is expected:
The entity ≈ declared in the ISOamsr.ent file should by mapped to the
Unicode Character 0x02248

What is found instead in ISOamsr.ent:

I think the currently wrong value (224D) was right in 2003, but it has
changed since that date. I can follow the changes with the docbook
releases that show that it has been modified in the 4.4 release in 2005.
By the way other changes have occured in these entity declarations.
≈ is just an example of the inconsistencies.

The Ubuntu install does not use the mainstream docbook entities but
rather relies on the sgml-data package to define the XML entities,
therefore the bug applies whatever docbook release is installed.

[Bug 1420870] [NEW] with an SSH2 stream, fseek with fgets will yield unpredictable results

2015-02-11 Thread Pierre-Olivier Benoit
Public bug reported:

When using fseek on an SSH2 stream, I will get unpredictable results.
The following sequence will fail :
- fopen text file on SSH2 stream
- fread 20 bytes
- fseek TO THE BEGINNING
- fgets /*should read first line but does not; instead reading half of Line 211
*/

Removing the initial fread() will not cause the issue.
Also using fclose()/fopen() after the fread() will return the pointer to the
beginning as well - but that is not a good workaround.

I was only able to reproduce it on 12.04.
The sample code ATTACHED will work properly on 14.04 or even 10.10.

You will need to edit the constants at the beginning of the file to
match your SSH server username and password. Also you need to drop the
test file on that server.

[Bug 1405696] Re: [xorg-edgers] after installation of nvidia-346 the screen is turned off at start of display manager (lightdm, gdm, kdm and xdm)

2015-01-27 Thread benoit
I have the same problem on Ubuntu 14.04 since 27/01/2015. nvidia-346 was
installed and worked perfectly but now, for an unknown reason, the
screen is turned off when lightdm starts. Nevertheless I can hear the
lightdm start sound. I have installed the nvidia-current (nvidia-304)
package. So now, my computer uses its intel graphic card instead of its
nvidia graphic card. When I try to switch to the nvidia card with
nvidia-prime, it fails... I have tried to install newer versions of the
nvidia driver (nvidia-331 and then nvidia-340) but it does not change
anything.

[Bug 1411626] [NEW] icons missing in dashboard

2015-01-16 Thread Benoit
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In graphite dashboard, the icons are missing.
Looking at /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/graphite/templates/dashboard.html
icons are supposed to be here:
var RESIZE_ICON   =
'/content/js/ext/examples/shared/icons/fam/cog_edit.png';
var REMOVE_ICON   = '/content/js/ext/examples/shared/icons/fam/cross.gif';
var REFRESH_ICON  =
'/content/js/ext/examples/shared/icons/fam/table_refresh.png';
var SHARE_ICON=
'/content/js/ext/examples/shared/icons/fam/application_go.png';

The "examples" directory is missing from the package in the "ext"
directory.

in the rules file, override_dh_install: section we have:
# clean unneeded stuff
[...]
rm -rf debian/graphite-web/usr/examples

I agree that the directory is poorly named, being called examples, but it only
contains icons used in the graphite UI.

Would it be possible to have this directory in the package?

procedures, but this one is not enough detailed for me (and probably
some users who are waiting a solution to resolve this bug).

Thanks by advance.

[Bug 1344043] Re: radiotray crashed with SIGABRT in gtk_main()

2014-09-07 Thread Benoit THIBAUD
I've made the fix as said by dino99 :
sudo geany /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/radiotray/SysTray.py

Comment the line 185 : gtk.gdk.threads_init()

and save.

It's working fine and better than in Trusty : the launch of it is very
fast !!!
