[Bug 242920] [NEW] gEdit has no syntax hightlighting for ASP (.asp files)

2008-06-25 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Try saving this file as index.asp and you will see that gEdit has no
highlighting capabilities for VBScript/ASP:

!--#include file=test/include.asp --
html
head
title%=sitetitle%/title
/head
body
h1%=sitetitle%/h1
/body
/html

For those PHP programmers, think of % as ?php. There should be syntax
highlighting inside those brackets.

[Bug 196202] Re: Places menu FTP servers open in firefox-3.0 instead of nautilus

2008-06-25 Thread brettalton
@Paul:
I think he means: how does it get set to Firefox after the gconf value is
empty? IE: when does this change occur? Because that is what we need to fix.

[Bug 235228] Re: Could not open location 'burn:///'

2008-06-25 Thread brettalton
The same error occurs, but '/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r' returns nothing.

My steps:
1) Ran '/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r' on the command line
2) Put in two blank DVD-Rs in both my DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM drives
3) Went to 'Places Blank DVD-ROM Disc' and the same error appeared.
4) Went back to the command line to see that '/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r' returned
nothing.
5) Manually went to 'burn:///' and that also returned nothing for
'/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r'

I also found it interesting that only one DVD-R was detected. The other
device says Unable to mount location / No media in the drive.

The drives work perfectly fine in Windows.

The DVD-RAM (the one that detected my DVD-R is an LG, bought about 3
months ago) while the other one came with my Dell XPS Gen 5 in August
2005.

I will give you the model numbers of both upon request.

[Bug 196202] Re: Places menu FTP servers open in firefox-3.0 instead of nautilus

2008-06-24 Thread brettalton
 you mean that firefox is writting this gconf value? that's broken behaviour
 and a bug
Yes Sabastian, you are correct. We just need to find out where/when/why Firefox
does this.

My theory is that it occurs when you set 'Firefox' as the default 'Web
Browser' (which FTP could be umbrella-ed under) in System Preferences
 Preferred Applications. By default in Hardy Heron, Firefox is not
selected (I don't think).

Re: [Bug 242478] Re: Nautilus can not display FTP quite often

2008-06-24 Thread brettalton
No, same error occurs.

I'm wondering if it is due to the '.' in the username...

I'll try testing vsftpd and/or proftpd with a ftp:///[EMAIL PROTECTED]
string in Nautilus and see if it can complete the request.

[Bug 196202] Re: Places menu FTP servers open in firefox-3.0 instead of nautilus

2008-06-23 Thread brettalton
Confirmed (and marking as so). I was about to submit a duplicate until I
found this.

$ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/ftp
 needs_terminal = false
 command = /usr/bin/firefox %s
 enabled = true

Maybe this occurs after 'Preferred Applications Internet Web
Browser' is set to Firefox? Did anyone else do this, even unknowingly?
If so, Firefox should not be set for FTP accounts, or there should be a
separate section for FTP under 'Preferred Applications Internet'. My
suggestion, anyway.

Workaround: Go to 'Places Home Folder', select 'Bookmarks' in Nautilus
and select your FTP bookmark.

Similar bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/12183,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/24085

They were closed because they were marked as 'user preferences changed',
however, I never changed Firefox to handle my FTP accounts or, if I did,
as I stated above, I never meant to.

[Bug 236848] [NEW] Selecting Help Help or F1, does not suggestion install method

2008-06-02 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

In GIMP, currently 2.4.5 in Hardy, when a user, such as myself, selects
Help Help or hits F1 to bring up the GIMP help browser, the
following error occurs:

helpbrowser Message
The GIMP help files were not found.
Please make sure gimp-help-en is installed, or the appropriate gimp-help
package for your language.

Can we get APT/gdebi to pop up and offer to install the help browser,
dependent on the user's locale?

I believe this is an accessibility issue and results in the user having
to use the command-line.

[Bug 236589] [NEW] WINE in Ubuntu cannot automatically run .msi files

2008-06-01 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

In Ubuntu Hardy, you can now double-click on a .exe file and WINE will
try to run the selected file (if WINE is installed).

Currently, this does not happen with .msi files, even though WINE can
run .msi files.

What is missing is this line:

wine msiexec /i xyz.msi

Currently, wine trys to run the .msi file like:

wine xyz.msi

and it returns the error:

Couldn't display xyz.msi.
There is no application installed for this file type

Can we add that line to .msi detection?

[Bug 232497] [NEW] [needs-packaging] BrettFont (OFL licenensed font) used by Fedora

2008-05-21 Thread brettalton

(http://openfontlibrary.org/media/files/brettalton/205) has been picked
up by the Fedora Project, packaged and is now included as an extra in
their system: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=445279.

RPM package information:

'alien' on all RPM packages successfully.

Is there anything I can test on both PCs to see why this is happening on

Like I said, this bug was on one of my client's machines, but not mine.

Finally I tried purging it, deleting the preferences, rebooting,
reinstalling rhythmbox and it actually got rid of the bug. Not sure what
the means but I hope it helps!

[Bug 191650] Re: [hardy] there's no 'custom' desktop effect profile after installing ccsm

2008-05-09 Thread brettalton
May I reiterate?

There are two packages that deal with custom compiz effects in Hardy:
simple-ccsm
compizconfig-settings-manager

In Gutsy, there was only:
compizconfig-settings-manager

In Gutsy, 'compizconfig-settings-manager' enabled an 'Extra' radio
button and a 'Preferences' button which opened 'compizconfig-settings-
manager'. In Hardy, 'compizconfig-settings-manager' does not enable this
feature. To enable this feature in Hardy, you have to install 'simple-
ccsm'.

I think what is wanted here is to have the 'Extra' radio button and
'Preferences' button when 'compizconfig-settings-manager' is installed,
just like in Gutsy. Like I said, only 'simple-ccsm' provides this
feature in Hardy.

Can we have both?

[Bug 228547] [NEW] [usability] Make shortcut for trash:/// in Places Trash

2008-05-08 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I don't know what has happened here in Hardy (or to my computer) but all
of sudden, my Trash applet in gnome-panel has disappeared.

I've ran:
$ killall gnome-panel

and tried to re-add Trash from Add to Panel... and even rebooted.

I'm not complaining about that bug (I will file a separate report for
that). What I am stating here is that there needs to be a secondary
method to find the user's trash bin. In GNOME 2.22, the Trash is no
longer found at ~/.Trash, but (by default) ~/.local/share/Trash (which
is harder to find for a regular desktop user (if they even know how to
view hidden files)) and I'm sure most don't know about 'trash:///' in
Nautilus.

Thus I'm proposing to have the Trash bin in Places Trash as a
fallback (In case something happens to the Trash applet) and a usable
shortcut (highly usable and visible in the main menu).

What's the current procedure for a regular user if they accidentally
removed their Trash icon/applet or a bug has occurred and it has
disappeared?

[Bug 226992] [NEW] gnome-mouse-properties accessibility is inaccessible

2008-05-05 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

First off, I get this error in Launchpad: gnome-mouse-properties does
not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a different package. If you're
unsure, please select I don't know

Running Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04, Nautilus 2.22.2, etc., gnome-mouse-
properties (which is advertised in GNOME's 2.22 release notes
(http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/2.22/#rna11y)) is
inaccessible and unusable.

Steps to reproduce
===
1) Run 'gnome-mouse-properties' either through a terminal or by clicking
System  Preferences  Mouse
2) You should be under the General tab -- click the 'Accessibility' tab
3) Under 'Simulated Secondary Click', try to enable 'Trigger secondary click by
holding down the primary button' or under 'Dwell Click', try to enable
'Initiate click when stopping pointer movement'
4) Error dialog: 'bAssistive Technologies not enabled/b\n Mousetweaks
requires Assistive Technologies.'

What should happen
===
The preferences should be enabled automatically with no form of error

What currently happens
===
An error dialog appears telling the using that 'Mousetweaks requires Assistive
Technologies' but doesn't state where or how to enable it.

This is an accessibility problem as its a generic error and it gives no
assistance to the user to tell them how to enable 'Assistive
Technologies'. I was lucky enough to know I could find 'Assistive
Technologies' under 'System Preferences Assistive Technologies'.
Others may not be so lucky.

2008-04-29 Thread brettalton
This is all I can offer from a duplicate bug:

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

I'm a little confused by this as I don't use 'evolution-*' (except
technically the clock in the 'gnome-panel').

I just recently installed Hardy (from scratch, but kept my preferences
in $HOME) and I've had no problems.

I have 'conky' on the desktop to view my processes, so when I noticed my
computer getting extremely sluggish, I minimized quickly to the desktop,
only to see 'evolution-data-server-2.22' using almost 100% of the CPU.

I'll gladly show you any log files necessary.

I'm not sure what else to tell you about my computer as it was a fresh
Hardy install.

Andrew Schofield (Current Maintainer) 2007-2008 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

URL:

Description:
FahMon is an open-source tool (GPL license) that allows you to quickly check

ones), avoiding you having to open different files and/or to go to the Internet
(for example to know how much your current work unit is worth).

FahMon is entirely coded in C++ and uses the wxWidgets library, which
allows FahMon to exist both for Linux, Windows and OS X. It is designed
to be really easy to use, and you should thus not encounter any major

[Bug 208852] Re: firefox-2 command runs Firefox 3 when are both installed

2008-04-06 Thread brettalton
I was just about to post this bug, luckily I found it.

$ ls -l /usr/bin/fire*

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2008-03-26 10:05 /usr/bin/firefox-2 -

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 2008-04-06 10:25 /usr/bin/firefox-3.0 -

But for some reason, when you type in 'firefox-2' in the command line,
Firefox 3.0b5 pops up.

$ firefox-2

It's just the most confusing thing because when I run this:

$ firefox-2 --version

It says it's version 2!

[Bug 208852] Re: firefox-2 command runs Firefox 3 when are both installed

2008-04-06 Thread brettalton
slashack is correct, Firefox 3 has to be closed for Firefox 2 to run.
Why is that when in Gutsy you could run both simultaneously?

[Bug 211550] [NEW] [NEEDS-UPGRADING] Clive 0.4.3 to (currently) 0.4.8

2008-04-03 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: clive

Clive (http://sourceforge.net/projects/clive/
http://home.gna.org/clive/) is a video extraction tool for user-
uploaded video hosts such as Youtube, Google Video, Dailymotion, Guba
and Metacafe. It can be chained with 3rd party tools for subsequent
video re-encoding and playing and playing.

I've been having nothing but problems with Clive until I compiled 0.4.8
from stratch. It's much improved and holds a lot of bug fixes... 0.4.9
will handle

Here's the changlog difference between 0.4.3 and 0.4.8:

* Youtube log-in support with flagged-content override
* Metacafe family-filter override
* Dailymotion log-in support

Version 0.4.8[2008-03-31]
=
+new !fix ~change -remove | focus: minor bugfixes

+ Youtube: HTTP/415 No media fallback
Extract low quality (flv) video if better quality (mp4) is not available.

! Youtube: Partial support for continuing transfers
It is now be possible to continue partial downloads as long as they are
high-quality (mp4) videos.

Note that this fails utterly for the flv videos. It appears urlgrabber
appends a complete file at the end of the existing file when the host
refuses to continue transfer. Instead of bloating the code with the
conditions, continuing the youtube flv file transfers remains disabled.

! Dailymotion: improved media support
clive no more assumes 512x384 is the highest available quality. The
video page is now parsed for best available quality which clive extracts
unless the --low-quality option is being used. It should be noted that
most videos appear to have only the low-quality (flv) video available.

No media warning will be displayed if high quality video is not found
and the low quality video is extracted instead.

! Transfer rate calculations
File length offset is now used properly with files that are being
overwritten. This fixes the only-progress-percentage odditity is
being displayed.

! Youtube: New error messages
error: country restriction/censorship
error: private video

! --check-update,-u
Crash at: TypeError: __init__() takes exactly 2 arguments (1 given)

~ Reduce progress stdout flickering (sr #1944)
Progress is now rendered in one second intervals. clive will now also
display average transfer rate and total time elapsed when the transfer
completes.

~ Clean up
clive(1), INSTALL etc.

Version 0.4.7[2008-03-17]
=
+new !fix ~change -remove | focus: major feature enhancements

NOTE: Much of the existing code was rewritten, cleaned up or otherwise
modified. Expect bugs. Please report them at the the above URL. Thanks.

+ GNU Autotools support
See the INSTALL file for the updated installation details.

+ urlgrabber integration
The urlgrabber module is now part of the source code distribution.
For more info, please read the README file.

Downstream maintainers: urlgrabber module is no longer a
prerequisite

+ Cache
If caching is enabled, clive will collect data about visited URLs
to a sqlite3 database file (~/.clive/cache). Note that cache is only
available for Python = 2.5. Also, depending on the system, the sqlite3
may not be installed with Python by default, e.g. on FreeBSD you need
to install it separately (databases/py-sqlite3).

Added also --no-cache and enable_cache. Caching is enabled by
default.

+ Youtube: new default format
clive now defaults to extract the better quality (mp4) videos from Youtube.
The default behaviour can be overridden with the --low-quality option.

+ Paste option displayed at program start
The state for paste from xclip is now displayed when the program starts.

! Same output filename in URL batch
clive did not previously check the URLs in current batch for same output
filename. For example:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4505462782975458603
http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-4505462782975458603

Both URLs point to the same video, note the different TLD. If they were
fed to clive in same URL batch the program accepted them without any
scrutiny. This resulted clive to waste bandwidth downloading the same
file twice and overwriting the previously extracted video file.

clive now generates (--exist=rename) a new output filename for the last
URL.

! Dailymotion support
clive will now attempt to extract the higher resolution vide (mp4)

[Bug 209745] [NEW] Ubuntu 6.06.2 release still says 6.06.1 on ISO images

2008-03-31 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 6.06 received an update from 6.06.1 to 6.06.2 on January 21st,
2008.

The problem is, when download 6.06.2 from either
http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download or
http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.06.2/, the ISO image still reads:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.06.2/ubuntu-6.06.1-alternate-i386.iso
(notice the 6.06.1).

To minimize confusion, I would like to see the release number changed
from 6.06.1 to 6.06.2.

Thank you.

[Bug 25966] Re: NEW PACKAGE: Printer drivers for Brother needed

2008-03-23 Thread brettalton
I noticed that an upgrade of the brother-cups-wrapper-* drivers were
pushed to Hardy, so I installed them, changed my driver from PS to CUPS
and my printing is now working =)

However, the pages seems to be 2.5cm at the top and 0.2cm at the
bottom. The left and right margins are about 0.7cm.

This is with a MFC-8440 so you have some prospective.

Olli now has BTNX dependant on autotools and soon libdaemon to fix some

The thing is, this idea has over 3000 positive vote

Are we going to see this packaged in Hardy?

[Bug 202886] [NEW] DTC needs code to be modified to install

2008-03-16 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dtc

For DTC to install in Gutsy or Hardy (currently 0.25.3-2ubuntu1), the
following line needs to be edited:

/usr/share/dtc/admin/install/functions.php:
# copy ldconfig from sbin to $conf_chroot_path/sbin
if ! [ $UNIX_TYPE = osx ] ; then
   cp -pf /sbin/ldconfig* sbin/ # used to be 'cp -pf /sbin/ldconfig.real
sbin/'
fi

That asterisk (*) was .real before and made the install in Ubuntu fail.

According to this post: http://forums.gplhost.com/phpBB2/image-
vp4081.html#4081, the developers have fixed it upstream, so please
either update DTC or create a patch for this problem...

Thank you.

I followed your steps and changed the driver. I tried a test page

The state in 'http://localhost/:631', however, says both print jobs have

[Bug 193762] Re: Can't paste nautilus

2008-03-07 Thread brettalton
I'm not sure if this is Nautilus' fault, but it happens to me with
Firefox and OpenOffice, although it could be any program.

If I copy a sentence from Firefox, then close Firefox and then try to
paste the sentence into OpenOffice, I can't as the sentence has been
purged.

I've been told I need 'glipper' to keep track of my coping and pasting,
but I don't understand why I need an external program to handle my
clipboard.

Is this a known feature missing from Nautilus or is it supposed to be
there? Yes, this sometimes happens to me with Nautilus too. Seems like
that 'select the word to copy it and then middle click to paste it'
messes up with ctrl + c and ctrl +v.

If a developer is to pick this up, he/she will have to take 0.4.6.tar.gz
(instead of the 0.4.4.deb) and turn that into a .deb fix those
installation issues.

[Bug 196131] [NEW] 'Help' button not working in System Preferences About Me

2008-02-27 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

NOTE: gnome-about-me is not in Launchpad's database of packages, and
therefore, I can not select it. The follow error occurs:

--
gnome-about-me does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a different package.
If you're unsure, please select I don't know
--

BUG: Go to System Preferences About Me in Gutsy (maybe earlier
versions too) and click the 'Help' button. Nothing will pop up. When ran
in the terminal, Help goes here is echoed and that's it.

See bottom, left-hand corner of screenshot provided.

[Bug 196154] [NEW] hardware-monitor in the GNOME panel acts up when you change fonts

2008-02-27 Thread brettalton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hardware-monitor

Whenever I change the font preferences in hardware-monitor, invidiual
characters, or sometimes the whole string, will change between my set
font and the default. It continues even if I set it back to the default.

Although I'm using Trebuchet in my example, it doesn't matter if it is a
user-installed font vs. system font or OpenType vs. TrueType

Current preferences:

Devices:
 * Disk (/home) -- show free space
 * Memory

Viewer:
 * Text
 * Trebuchet, 10px (previous was Sans 12px)

Background:
 * Use panel background

NOTE: I'm running Gutsy and hardware-monitor 1.4-2ubuntu0
