[Bug 1873104] Re: Defaults to USB audio after every reboot
I agree. I don't see this as an upstream issue because I have tried it on other distros - they worked as expected. USB hotplugging updates the audio device. However, a reboot simply restores whatever was last in use. For some reason, only on Ubuntu, it treats a reboot as plugging a new USB device. And this occurs on every flavor I tested - Ubuntu, Mate, Kubuntu and Xubuntu. In Kubuntu it can be slightly mitigated because you can set the default from the tray. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873104 Title: Defaults to USB audio after every reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1873104/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1873104] Re: Defaults to USB audio after every reboot
Yes, I know I can modify a file and turn off switch on connect. Working around it isn't a problem, I still think it is a bug. It needs to either differentiate between detection on boot and detection during a hotplug, or it needs different behavior depending on if you are on a laptop or desktop. I can see how this option is great for laptop users. It is extremely frustrating, though, on a desktop where USB devices like headsets tend to stay plugged in all the time.
[Bug 1873104] [NEW] Defaults to USB audio after every reboot

[Bug 1868914] Re: package vanilla-gnome-default-settings 18.10.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed vanilla-gnome-default-settings package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit sta
Thanks Tim, but as I was just testing I simply reverted to a previous snapshot. I was just reporting because there are a lot of us who like Ubuntu but find the default color scheme...less than optimal. I can live with a lot of things, but not a bright purple screen blasting my eyes when I try to log in before I have had my coffee. My main concern was just that it was broken. I think the plymouth boot logo frankly should just be deprecated at this point. [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
The long chain of arguments from the devs that the snap folder is different just reflects what they *want* the snap folder to be, not what it actually is. I have 10 folders inside $HOME/snap. I have no idea what content is in any of them, nor do I care about that content, nor would I ever browse it as I would Documents, Downloads, etc. It is simply junk. I'm not upset that the software has this problem, but I'm upset that the devs have not treated the problem seriously. It's been over 3 years since the issue was raised. Every single person who installs Ubuntu runs into the "snap" folder and has no idea what it is. UX matters and this is a major UX failure. The devs of snap, in their responses here, completely disregard common sense UX due to (a) technical reasons, which despite being of clear importance do not adequately justify 3 years of not prioritizing this, (b) pedagogical beliefs about what the snap folder is/should be, which are just idealistic since that is not what the folder actually is. Yes, I'm happy that fixing this is on the roadmap. But no, I don't think that taking 3 years so far is excusable, and I don't think this issue has been given nearly the attention it deserves. I'm sorry but renaming a folder doesn't require 3 years of work -- no matter what idealistic idea you have for the software in the long term, just disregard that for now and rename the folder as everyone is clearly annoyed, and it's your fault for dumping junk on them that they didn't want or need. After you rename the folder you can solve your technical issues about where snap apps can store their stuff. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575053 Title: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1813701] Re: [amdgpu] Flickering graphics corruption (but none observed in kernels 4.18.10-4.18.12)
This also affects me on a fresh Arch Linux install with the RX 580 8GB GPU. I have found a temporary workaround to this issue until it is finally solved. I used Budgie Settings to enable the execution of this command each time it enters the environment: xrandr --output HDMI-A-0 --mode 1920x1080 -r 60 This disables the flickering if executed as the system enters the desktop environment. Replace your output with whatever you use (in my case, I use HDMI-A-0). Of course, it will cap your frame-rate at 60Hz but it's better than having the flickering lines at the bottom of the screen. [Bug 1562219] Re: Unprivileged xinit wont start in unallocated vt
Update to #30 Upon further investigation On 14.04, the files in /usr/bin are binaries. -X is a suid wrapper binary -Xorg is the actual binary On 16.04, they are scripts. -X is a link to Xorg -Xorg is a script, calling the actual executables in /usr/lib/xorg/. It seems the Xorg script in /usr/bin should check if the binary wrapper "Xorg.wrap" is present in /usr/lib/xorg. If it is, act as a suid wrapper and use /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config as it's config file(according to the man page for Xorg.warp), otherwise exec /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg directly. So it seems the problem is that the legacy package is not installing the Xorg.wrap binary (perhaps in only some cases???) as many users report editing Xwrapper.config has no effect. Also, dpkg -S Xorg.wrap shows no matches suggesting this may be an oversight? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1562219 Title: Unprivileged xinit wont start in unallocated vt To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xinit/+bug/1562219/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That's just the same BS Asus support always try to push on people. I can tell you have updated every driver, to no avail. And even if it did work, it wouldn't make a difference in Windows. It is most certainly a firmware bug. That said, there still hasn't been any explanation as to why this thread was marked "fixed." The hope was by verifying it worked and posting it here, one of the many people more intelligent than me on this mailing list could look at it and determine what about this patch fixes the issue and confirm it is safe. The only thing I found when scanning the files was a Windows warning about not recognizing WinIAP_X64.exe, but that isn't unusual. [Bug 1305522] Re: Backport Synaptics HID touchpad driver for 14.04
Hi, I've been attempting to build this into the 3.14.8 kernel, since bug 1283938 is preventing me from using suspend on even 3.16 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1283938).
