I installe the lucid package (by using dpkg), and it works, but I have two HUGE problems: 1. kpackagekit keeps screaming at me about broken dependencies, and wants to remove great chunks of KDE to fix the dependencies. 2. @Sebastian - No, I've got a Dell E6400 Latitude with the alps touchpad/trackpoint combination. @Erik - Perhaps I miscommunicated - I almost NEVER use the touchpad buttons in any kind of normal operation, and have pretty well trained myself NOT to touch the touchpad unless I scroll. So I went through and compared the log messages from the (unsuccessful) plasmoid attempt to connect vs. the (successful) nm-applet attempt to connect to PEAP. [Bug 259278] Re: knetworkmanager will no longer connect
I've been running the network-manager plasmoid for about a week. I've found the following results: 1. WEP networks seem to work fine, whether they are DHCP or static-IP. I still need a few tests on the static IP, but it *appears* to be working. 2. LEAP and PEAP networks do NOT work at all. I've had ZERO success in these. These results are the same as for knetworkmanager for me. In all cases, nm-applet works fine, so the problem is clearly with the front-end (the plasmoid or knetworkmanager) -- knetworkmanager will no longer connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to knetworkmanager in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 326901] [NEW] CUPS driver for Sharp AR-M550N no longer works right
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups-driver-gutenprint Well, I'm hoping this is the right place to post this. [Bug 317149] [NEW] flicker boxes, rendering artifacts on gl applications
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel System: Ubuntu Intrepid (updated from hardy), up-to-date as of 2009/01/14 on Dell Latitude D620 with Intel 945GM video, 1440x900 display. Problem: GL applications flicker during display. This problem shows up in a variety of ways: 1. GL applications 'show through' overlying windows. For example: -fire up glxgears -place a console window (or kate, or firefox, or anything) over the top. The glxgears window decoration is covered, but the glx display window itself is always on top, effectively showing through the overlying window. This occurs for a number of gl applications, including the screensaver preview box on the screensaver configuration app. 2. GL applications show 'flicker boxes' - these appear to be semi-random in location and size, but are always rectangular, and flicker back and forth. When I run a full-screen GL application such as Celestia or Stellarium or (sometimes) a screensaver, I get funny boxes showing up, flickering, disappearing. (example photo attached - from Celestia, two boxes in upper left (one small, around text, one about 640x480, the other in the lower right, appearing white). Googleearth has so many artifacts it is unusable. 3. GL screensavers often (not always) display as if on a 640x480 screen. This results in something like an left-hand upper quarter screensaver, with a grey or black field for the rest of the screen (see attached). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- flicker boxes, rendering artifacts on gl applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317149 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Fabulous. Between the iwl3945 still not working for LEAP and the fact that knetworkmanager isn't working for LEAP, it's somewhat amazing that intrepid could actually have been allowed to be released. I guess I just don't understand how a version can be released when it's got serious flaws. Particularly when it *used* to work (under ipw3945). Sorry, I hate to vent, but I've been without decent networking (carrying a stupid ethernet cable around with me wherever I go on campus) for six months now. I've reinstalled, upgraded, reinstalled, tried *everything* anyone could tell me to do. I've tried different machines, for crying out loud, to make sure I didn't have a hardware problem. I had not been under the impression that I was the only one who was having this difficulty, but apparently there's something bizarre going on here locally. [Bug 209920] Re: LEAP broken for iwl3945 under hhardy
One last attempt? I know that this bug is filed under iwl3945 for hardy, but here's my situation. No LEAP works for me at all, under gnome-applet, knetworkmanager, or wicd on Intrepid, whether I'm using the built-in iwl3945 or the USB dongle (that had worked fine under Hardy, but no longer under Intrepid). I've tried the dongle on different machines using the Live Intrepid Ubuntu cdrom. No joy - always the SAME result, authentication time out. Colleagues are currently using LEAP under Gutsy (using the ipw3945 driver) and under Hardy (using the dongle). So if no one else but me is having trouble with LEAP under Intrepid, then how has our IT department screwed up the LEAP configuration that's so unforgiving to Intrepid? Our IT is completely linux-hostile, so it's up to me to solve this problem, they won't help at all. Using network-manager, I've gotten the following results: Using the direct LEAP setting, dmesg reports: [ 279.949236] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:92:5a:d4:90 [ 280.148097] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:92:5a:d4:90 [ 280.348081] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:92:5a:d4:90 [ 280.548067] wlan0: authentication with AP 00:11:92:5a:d4:90 timed out 4 lines repeat Using the WPA-Enterprise - LEAP setting, network-manager crashes: [ 444.452851] nm-connection-e[8416]: segfault at 6c620069 ip b7386742 sp bff694c0 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.1707.0[b732d000+b5000] Manually, I'm having problems. I picked up a USB network stick (zd1211) that works GREAT under wicd and network-manager on my hardy installation. I'd been trying to run wpa_supplicant manually, while the zd1211 works under wicd and network-manager, I can't get EITHER the zd1211 OR the iwl3945 working using the manual wpa_supplicant configuration, on EITHER hardy OR intrepid. If someone can give me some input on the configuration file, I'd be most grateful. My current configuration is attached, if anyone can give some advice. Do I need to kill networking (or network-manager or wicd) before using manual configuration? A few other notes - I don't have a group 'wheel', so someone (on launchpad) had recommending setting ctrl_interface_group=0. If there's anything else goofy that's inhibiting me, that I'm messing up here, please let me know. But in any case, LEAP is still not working out-of-the-box using network- manager. ** Attachment added: wpa_supplicant.conf_clean http://launchpadlibrarian.net/17536557/wpa_supplicant.conf_clean -- LEAP broken for iwl3945 under hhardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209920 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 209920] [NEW] LEAP broken for iwl3945 under hhardy
Public bug reported: After upgrade from gutsy to hardy beta, my laptop will not connect to our campus LEAP wireless system. I have no difficulties connecting to various WEP systems, but the network fails on LEAP. I have the intel3945 chipset, and have compiled the 1.2.26k iwl3945 module. Before upgrading, I'd been using knetworkmanager/NetworkManager and had successfully been able to connect to the LEAP network via the WPA Enterprise/ LEAP IEEE 802.1x, WPA1 version. The same configuration fails to connect under the new update. Knetworkmanager gets to the 28% mark and fails - I get the little popup saying 'Connection Fialure - Could not connect to the network name'. I've tried Wicd as well, to similar result (although Wicd only has 1 LEAP option). A colleague with the ipw3945 driver under ubuntu feisty has no problem connecting to the LEAP network using either networkmanager or wicd. So I understand that the 28% mark is where the leap handshaking/authentication is being done. This would suggest a problem with WPAsupplicant, wouldn't it? dmesg seems to suggest that that is the case: [ 24.057149] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready [ 24.172218] wlan0: Initial auth_alg=128 [ 24.172228] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:5c:eb:1a:90 [ 24.173253] wlan0: RX authentication from 00:11:5c:eb:1a:90 (alg=128 transaction=2 status=13) [ 24.173263] wlan0: AP denied authentication (auth_alg=128 code=13) [ 24.186905] wlan0: Initial auth_alg=128 [ 24.186915] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:5c:eb:1a:90 [ 24.193500] wlan0: RX authentication from 00:11:5c:eb:1a:90 (alg=128 transaction=2 status=13) [ 24.193510] wlan0: AP denied authentication (auth_alg=128 code=13) [ 24.243503] wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:5c:eb:1a:90 [ 24.244391] wlan0: RX authentication from 00:11:5c:eb:1a:90 (alg=128 transaction=2 status=13) But information on wpa_supplicant (http://hostap.epitest.fi/wpa_supplicant) states that wpasupplicant supports LEAP: * (note: requires special support from the driver). This suggests to me that the problem lies with iwl3945. [Bug 203705] Re: iwl3945 fails to connect to MR814 access point
For what it's worth, it looks like I'm seeing the same problem that Seth de I'Isle reports. I upgraded to Hardy, and under 2.6.24-12 I have been completely unable to use my wireless. iwconfig accurately lists wlan 0 as a wireless extension (and wmaster0 with NO wireless extension), and wicd sniffs out the local available wireless networks BUT cannot connect. I've tried a variety of fixes I've seen, including: 1. building the latest compat-wireless driver (1.2.26k) 2. switching to 'wicd' from knetworkmanager/network manager 3. removing the /etc/udev/rules/70-persistent-net.rules or commenting out the 3945 line. Nothing works. Regardless of how I comment or modify #3, the file is recreated with a new 3945 line. The newer driver seemed to have zero effect. In all cases, I NEVER see my wireless LED indicator come on, ever. There is no indication of trouble from /var/log/messages or dmesg. I have had zero success in getting wireless to work. [Bug 194417] [NEW] knetworkmanager misidentifies LEAP network as WEP
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: knetworkmanager I'm running knetworkmanager 0.2 under KDE 3.5.8 on kubuntu Gutsy. Knetworkmanager misidentifies the local LEAP network as WEP. When I select 'Connect to Other Network' under knetworkmanager and enter in the correct encryption information, the system can connect to the LEAP network, and store that network in the 'trusted' network list, as well as store the encryption information under kwalletmanager (or in the config file, depending on how that preference is selected). When I try to reconnect to that network from the list of available networks, the information misidentifies that network (LEAP) as WEP. The network information box that pops up when the cursor 'dawdles' over the network name lists the Encryption Protocal as WEP. Since the stored login/encryption information is NOT WEP, the connection attempt fails. When the connection fails, the 'Connect to Wireless Network' box pops up and asks for updated encryption information. Since knetworkmanager thinks the network is WEP, it only offers the WEP encryption options (passphrase, hex, ascii), and does NOT offer the WPA options. Only when I dismiss this box and select 'Connect to Other Network' can I reconnect to the LEAP network. This is 100% reproducible. ** Affects: knetworkmanager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- knetworkmanager misidentifies LEAP network as WEP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 190282] [NEW] Bad video behavior on resume from suspend on intel i945GM
Public bug reported: When I resume from a suspend-to-ram, the screen flickers then 'bleeds'- I get vertical streaks against a dark background that brightens as time passes. The streaks appear to be stronger at the bottom than the top, giving the illusion that it's bleeding from the bottom up. This continues (doesn't get brighter after a point) until I hit CTRL-ALT-F1, at which time the screen blanks. If I then hit CTRL-ALT-F7, the screen wakes up (resumes the desktop) properly, and the system works correctly from then on. This happens most of the time that I try suspending. On some rare occasions (~1% of the time) the system won't recover from a suspend at all, and just hangs until I power off. I have a Dell Latitude D620 Latitude with an intel I945GM video controller.
