[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise
I just came across this bug after being forced to reinstall my main OS - I got my grub altered despite making no mistake when installing parallel ubuntu on different device. I was using 20.04 LTS and I am extremely disappointed with the reason: old bug that made installer not trusted. Fortunately it was my private computer and I was able to make backup of all files so the restoration won't take more than hours. For me this should not only be *critical* but fixed and backported into all supported editions, LTS including. It's very dangerous and time/money consuming error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1396379 Title: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1396379/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1954340] [NEW] Fan stopped working after firmware upgrade
Public bug reported: There was a firmware upgrade available this morning that I did. After that when I boot up my computer I noticed it was getting very hot. I then realized that the fan was no longer blowing. I don't remember exactly what the upgrade notes said but I recall it had something to do with either fan or CPU. The fan works before the OS starts but once the computer starts to boot the fan stops blowing even if the computer is very hot (Over 90 degrees Celsius). Possible confounding factors: My boot partition was too small and I was getting problems doing installations. I've since reinstalled to increase the size. 1) lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 21.10 Release:21.10 2) Not sure which package. Occurred after a firmware upgrade I installed this morning. 3) I expect the fan to blow like I used to (I think it was always on but for sure it would come on if the temperature went up) 4) The fan does not come on even if the CPU temp goes over 90 degrees Celsius. [Bug 1322004] [NEW] Unable to adjust screen brightness
Public bug reported: I am using an Acer V5-122P which uses the AMD Radeon 8250 graphics card. I am unable to adjust the backlight brightness, except that on battery if I try to toggle the brightness using the hotkeys up and down repeatedly, I am able to adjust the backlight brightness to the lowest setting. I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and fglrx, but the problem persists when using the open source xorg-radeon/ati driver. I have been experiencing this problem with all kernels and versions of Ubuntu since 12.04 with no changes as I've upgraded. I have entries in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ for brightness, max_brightness, actual_brightness, bl_power, type, device, subsystem, power, and uevent.. Directly echoing values into brightness does not make any changes to the screen brightness. Happy to answer any other questions or try any workarounds. I have now submitted a new bug at the following location and have subscribed you: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1322004 Let me know what else I can do to help with this. Additionally, Lewis, the workaround you put forth doesn't work for me. I don't have a radeon_bl0 entry in my /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ folder. This may be because I'm using the fglrx driver and it looks like you're currently using the radeon driver. [Bug 1315834] Re: 1002:983d [Acer Aspire V5-122P] Unable to adjust screen brightness
Lewis and Chris, I can confirm that I am experiencing the same behavior as Lewis. I have used both the open source radeon/ati drivers as well as the proprietary fglrx drivers (I'm currently using the fglrx-updates package (2:13.350.1-0ubuntu2) from the Ubuntu repos). I have not yet tried the 14.4 version of fglrx, but can verify that the issue is still present with the proprietary drivers installed. I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but when the laptop is unplugged it looks as if the contrast is reduced in line with a decrease in backlight, but the brightness is not similarly reduced. For example, everything looks washed out and there is very little contrast. If you then play with the brightness hotkeys and are able to reduce the backlight to it's lowest settings (reducing the brightness), the contrast/brightness balance is back to normal (at the lowest brightness setting). These are the only two brightness levels that I can get working - full brightness and lowest brightness. I was able to use a workaround detailed here: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=711#c54 to get appropriate contrast/brightness balance on battery at the highest brightness level, but I am still unable to change the backlight settings beyond lowest or highest brightness. Hope that helps. [Bug 289467] Re: Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM support
@Will: Mostly it is a problem with the monitor Samsung 2493hm which does not suppord EDID properly. But that is the problem with most of Samsung's monitors and ddccontrol supports them somehow (I don't know, how - maybe by some pre-defined signatures for mapping random EDID to proper data?) So it is in my opinion a bug in ddccontrol which should (somehow ) support that monitor. I provided all the information needed and on request can provide even more. I'm not a C developer but I am skilled enough to run some tests if any defeloper needs a testing assistance. @Fred: Your XML does not work for me. I don't remember for what reason, most problably because it links to another XML which I didn't posess. I use Ubuntu 10.04, if it helps you. (But it might be another reason - many months passed and I am not 100% sure). Anyway - this is the only real bug which remained, it is very strange for me that any of the developers didn't manage to find little time to solve it given all the data in this thread and readiness of users' to assist. I understand that developers work in their free time but if they work they should pay their attention - few years passed... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289467 Title: Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ddccontrol/+bug/289467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 674594] [NEW] IBus preference dialog only opens after repeated attempts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ibus I am using Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick and ibus-1.3.7-1ubuntu3. In order to begin inputting a language using ibus you are required to add that language in the preferences dialog. I clicked on the ibus indicator applet and selected preferences. I expected the preferences dialog to open, but it did not. I repeated this process three more times, and it finally opened. After this initial opening, the preferences dialog opens on the first selection. I am not sure if the initial opening is simply delayed, or must be repeated a number of times to work. ** Affects: ibus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- IBus preference dialog only opens after repeated attempts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674594 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 526796] Re: No sound applet on the gnome panel
I had a similar problem. I installed Maverick, keeping my home directory from Lucid, and after a short time my sound indicator and me menu disappeared. [Bug 359794] [NEW] Adding a SMB Network folder to favorites located under places
Public bug reported: When i add a Network folder let's say SMB://luna/ It goes directly to this folder with no problem. It mounts the network folder etc. But the problem start when you bookmark this folder. When bookmarked i drag the icon, in this example Luna, to my favorites. So i can directly access the network folder from my desktop, because it's located under places. Places | --- Home Folder --- Desktop --- Documents --- Music --- Pictures --- Videos --- Luna Like the above example I should access the folder by clicking on Luna. But when i click on the Luna network folder I get the following error. Could not open location 'smb://luna/' No application is registered as handling this file I then have to first go to my home folder, so it's opening Nautilus (believe it's called nautilus), than i access the network folder Luna. I believe this is a bug, because it should know what to do with smb://luna/ it should automatically open nautilus and go to the network folder. I hope i explained it correctly this way. [Bug 211387] [NEW] Nidia 6600GT Drivers, never getting the right resolutions, only when booting in safe mode.
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Release: Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch) Release:8.04 Ubuntu 2.6.22-14.52-generic After updating from 7.10 to 8.04 with all the newest updates i installed the proprietary hardware drivers which Ubuntu suggested to install. But whenever i reboot my system, Ubuntu will tell me it have to run in low graphics mode. And i cant get my resolution to 1280 by 1024. The only way i can make my monitor to work under the right resolution is to reboot in recovery mode, and restore X server. Then i'll resume booting, but this way i cant get a second monitor to run or anything. The weirdest thing is that i haven't had any problems in 7.10 with the resolutions or anything. It took some time to get there but eventually i got there, even the second monitor. But i tried everything in 8.04 but with no avail. My video graphics card is a: Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 6600GT And i have 2 * 19 LCD Monitors of the brand Acer AL1922 I hope i gave enough information here, if anyone need anything more, please ask. [Bug 211387] Re: Nidia 6600GT Drivers, never getting the right resolutions, only when booting in safe mode.
** Description changed: Ubuntu Release: Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch) Release: 8.04 Ubuntu 2.6.22-14.52-generic After updating from 7.10 to 8.04 with all the newest updates i installed the proprietary hardware drivers which Ubuntu suggested to install. But whenever i reboot my system, Ubuntu will tell me it have to run in low graphics mode. And i cant get my resolution to 1280 by 1024. The only way i can make my monitor to work under the right resolution is - to reboot in safe mode, and restore X server. Then i'll resume booting, - but this way i cant get a second monitor to run or anything. + to reboot in recovery mode, and restore X server.
