Stuck on this. On my case it's: ... installed linux-image-5.11.0-38-generic package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 139... Tried to remove nvidea, no efect. Tried: sudo apt -f install sudo dpkg --configure -a Tried to purge the old kernel. No luck. This is far from expired. My desktop has an 3 disks. one is an SSD (for the / filesystem). I was unable to install Ubuntu 64 bits on it because of this problem. Tried 12.04 and 13.10 both as a CD install and USB. always the same message. It seems there is no /init script in the initramfs. Grub 2 config seems ok. References are pointing to the right places and the destination files seem to be there. There is no way to boot the machine normally. Folks, I simply erased the configuration forcing the system to create a clean one: open a console trough : Ctrl+Alt+F1 find X process and kill it: ps -ef | grep X Clear old configuration (all unity configurations will be lost)... Public bug reported: I have 1 monitor and an LCD TV arranged in as a dual monitor setup with an nvidia card. Ubuntu's display preferences doesn’t recognise the monitors, so I have to use Nvidia settings. The system works but with unity 3d windows keep poping in the monitor I'm not using. It's silly. Because I only turn on the TV when I want to see video, I can't use the system unless I have the other monitor on. Because this is impractical I switched to Unity 2D were this behaviour doesn't happen. Unity 3D should to open windows in the monitor with the focus, or at least give that choice. This behavior also hapens in Ubuntu 11.10. Joseph, the latest kernel doesn't solve the problem. I tested it in another asus eeepc (not mine) and the problem persists. This freeze also happened to me on the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04, on a asus eee 901 with ssd and ext2 file system. If the system was not properly shutdown, I think it is recommended to run fsck. You should ask this from nvidia company due to the closed source drivers; if it helps then I got pci express geforce go 6200 turbocache card with 128MB (16MB real, rest is taken from ram) and suffer memory leak also... Another strange thing happened today. The bug vanished from my system, and I don't know why. Today I've donne: sudo nvidia-settings to add some good refresh rate, because I've made the upgrade from feisty and it got a little messed up. I send my current xconf.org as attachment... By the way it is a mess because of the new screen and graphics manager. Instated avant window manager (didn't like it). About last post... Sorry. The problem is still there, but somehow it's progression is slower. I've been opening and closing programs like a mad for 20 minutes (to further test) and the resident memory climbed to 155MB and the virtual to 190MB, from several hundreds. I have 1GB. Hello. The PATA controller provided by the jmb363 doesn't work properly under linux... several bugs are under way. After mannage to install Ubuntu using an external USB DVD drive, I realized it's impossible to record cds or dvds using any of my optical drives (btw, they are healthy) in several bios and cable configurations. Reading works, but sometimes halts, and recording is completely impossible. I already trashed some cds and dvds. K3b gives this error logs for two different bios configurations of the jmb363 controller. The default cd creator simply says: Error writing to disc. Does someone has some tip in how to solve this?
