2022-03-11 Thread Dash
I tried the 22.04, installation crashed after disk partitioning. I
download the 18.04.6 and now everything is back, no more graphical
problems, great \o/.

I'll keep this version and blocked the OS version upgrade. Thanks for
your support.

If I could suggest, ubuntu-bug needing a graphical interface, should be
good to explain that point 2. is to use if you have only console access.

2020-01-28 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
Hi Sebastien. While rebooting to have a clear journalctl output to send
you, the updates work and I found why.

Battery has to be 100% charged. While still on power, reboot the
machine, do the upgrade, reboot and finally the BIOS gets upgraded.
After last reboot you can remove the power supply.

Should this be the correct behavior ?

Public bug reported:

Each time the notebook starts I'm advised that a new bios upgrade is
out: XPS 13 7390 System Update 0.1.3.1 => 0.1.4.0

Problem is that when I ask for update, I always get this message

supply.

Battery can be full, notebook connected on power supply, doesn't matter,

[Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-07 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
More infos. I installed the notebook from scratch with a 16.04.2 image
and update to latest 16.04 packages which installed 4.15.0-38 kernel.
The laptop has the correct behavior, without entering settings I can
switch/duplicate displays with the fn key.

So original problem seems not related to kernel version.

[Bug 1801747] Re: External display not recognized, internal one goes to black

2018-11-06 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
Ubuntu 18.10 does have the same problem, Ubuntu 16.04.2 has *NO*
problem. From where could I get an 4.4 kernel for 18.04 for testing
purpose ?

Other infos: when I check in systems, it show me 3 display despite the
fact that only 2 are connected:

1. internal display
2. unknown display with resolution 1024 x 768 (4:3) 800 x 600 (4:3) 848 x 480
(16:9) !
3. external display with correct informations (Brand, model, )

I also discover that starting the laptop with the display connected,
shows me the splash image on both displays as it should. Problem arise
on greeting image. From here I see "No input signal" and the external
display goes black.

Daniel

PS: perhaps bug 1723025? could be identical but from my side, I can
start with or without external display, it's only when I use the fn
switch key that problem arise.

[Bug 1597150] Re: gdm3 crashed with SIGTRAP logging "Creating pipes for GWakeup: Too many open files\n" in g_wakeup_new() from g_main_context_new() from g_dbus_connection_send_message_with_reply_sync(

2018-09-07 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
I did the all stuff again and first crashed gnome-shell then Xwayland.
gdm3 is still running with the same PID but gdm-wayland-session PID
change after few seconds. Example:

  821 ?Ssl0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm3
 3911 pts/3S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto gdm3
 3935 tty1 Ssl+ 0:00 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-wayland-session gnome-session
--autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart
severine@JS-PC:~$ sudo ps ax|grep gdm3
  821 ?Ssl0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm3
 4486 tty1 Ssl+ 0:00 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-wayland-session gnome-session
--autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart
 4551 pts/3S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto gdm3
severine@JS-PC:~$ sudo ps ax|grep gdm3
  821 ?Ssl0:00 /usr/sbin/gdm3
 4662 tty1 Ssl+ 0:00 /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-wayland-session gnome-session
--autostart /usr/share/gdm/greeter/autostart
 4811 pts/3S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto gdm3

After a while, around 20~30 min, gdm-wayland-session is no more running

Attached is the log file before I killed gdm3

Do you not prefer that I send you the gnome-shell and Xwayland crash
files ?

2018-09-07 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
Hi, here is the detail of what happend:

- remove all files from /var/crash
- restart computer, the Ubuntu screen with the dots is shown
- when time of greeting appears in /var/crash _usr_bin_Xwayland.124.crash and
.lock files
- some seconds after appears _usr_bin_gnome-shell.124.crash in this directory
- after a long time, eg 15min, no other crash
- I ran lsof and killed gdm3 PID with kill -9 (attached lsof file)
- appears in /var/crash _usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.0.crash

If the log fiel is still unusable I could perhaps try the command you told me
yesterday:
ubuntu-bug _usr_bin_Xwayland.124.crash
ubuntu-bug _usr_bin_gnome-shell.124.crash

Please advice.

[Bug 1790870] [NEW] No X display - gdm3 crash with segfault

2018-09-05 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

This desktop was running 16.04.5 version and started few weeks ago to
have the desktop crashing. In dmesg I saw compiz segfault at 0 ip [...]
error 4. I decide to upgrade to 18.04.1 to solve this problem but it's
still there: gnome-shell at 0 ip [...] error 4

In 18.04 i even don't get the desktop, only the mouse indicator is
visible, disappearing from time to time (seems on each crash).

Attached is the output of an radeontool dump. The desktop is unusable in
graphic mode.

[Bug 1741447] Re: Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after mesa updates of 2018-01-04

2018-08-10 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1735594 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735594

I too have this bug. I use radeon module for

01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] RS482/RS485 [Radeon Xpress 1100/1150]

Error is

compiz[12038]: segfault at 38c ip 7f2dbc01a2c9 sp 7fff9bbce640
error 4

I installed ubuntu-gnome-desktop but this failed too with a segfault

What I find out is that after a long time, flashing is stopping but
desktop is not complete (eg not all icons nor launcher are displayed).
>From this time mouse or keyboard are responding but after a while
everything is frozen.

Another think: if I remove linux-modules-extra from lets say
4.4.0-124-generic kernel, the problem disappear! No luck for me, I need
this package for my network card ;)

I installed the xenial-proposed repo which gave 4.4.0-132 kernel,
problem is still there. Attached is the file from /var/crash

Thanks to find a solution, computer is unusable :(

Daniel

[Bug 1778053] Re: No sound in Firefox with HDMI unplugged as 1st peripheral

2018-06-21 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
Even worst: just tried to activate again unplugged HDMI which was then
second of the list in pavucontrol, Firefox uses HDMI audio and not the
internal audio device ! So only switching off HDMI gives sound back in
Firefox.

[Bug 1778053] [NEW] No sound in Firefox with HDMI unplugged as 1st peripheral

2018-06-21 Thread Dash via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

On a computer having HDMI output, when HDMI is shown as unplugged and
HDMI Internal Audio is the first device in the list shown via
pavucontrol, Firefox doesn't use next available audio device. Chrome or
VLC are dealing OK with the same setup.

[Bug 1699756] Re: Launching epoptes ended with an OpenSSL error

2017-06-22 Thread Dash
Hi Alkis

I reinstalled the epoptes package to be sure. I know it was working,
doesn't remember if it was 14.04 or 16.04. Output is

dh@deex:~$ ls -l /etc/epoptes/
total 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1919 mars 2 2016 server.crt
-rw--- 1 root root 916 mars 2 2016 server.key

[Bug 1682136] Re: dnsmasq bad hex constant with 2 mac addresses but not true

2017-05-25 Thread Dash
As told in the original message, there was no problem with a
dnsmasq-2.72-3 version of Debian 8. I downloaded the dnsmasq source
version 2.76, compile it and problem is gone.

You can close this bug.

[Bug 1688306] Re: Fresh Lubuntu 16.04.2 install - Ubiquity crashes installator

2017-05-05 Thread Dash
It's not a problem with ISO file

dh@keewi:~/Mes_documents/Informatique/src/DiskImages/ubuntu$ md5sum
lubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso |grep "5342788791f57889ed08304a3fe792b7"
5342788791f57889ed08304a3fe792b7 lubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso

I tried with 2 medias (USB sticks), same problem. I create -on the first
media I used- an image from a lubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso which
worked.

Definitely not a download/support problem.

[Bug 1682136] [NEW] dnsmasq bad hex constant with 2 mac addresses but not true

2017-04-12 Thread Dash
Public bug reported:

Following line of dnsmasq.conf will not allow dnsmasq to start giving
error "bad hex constant at line x in /etc/dnsmasq.conf" and this despite
the fact that there is no error in mac addresses.

dhcp-
host=a8:6b:ad:4b:83:bf,44:a8:42:fb:a2:df,172.16.30.47,w10-assist1,net:ordi,infinite,set:ordi

With only one of those two mac addresses, all is good, so there is no
error in mac addresses. In the dnsmasq.conf they are other dhcp-host
with multiple mac addresses like

dhcp-
host=a8:6b:ad:4a:d9:d3,44:a8:42:fb:a2:85,00:24:9b:12:71:be,172.16.30.43,w10-pierre,net:ordi,infinite,set:ordi

and they are not rejected.

When copying the default configuration line in a dnsmasq-2.72-3 of
Debian 8.7, no problem.

[Bug 1671430] [NEW] VPN using pptp is not working - not allowed policies

2017-03-09 Thread Dash
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I tried to setup a pptp VPN using NM and I'm unable to connect. After
having settings parameters, I activate the VPN in the GUI manager and
get in syslog:

Mar 9 11:50:47 localhost gnome-session[2163]: (nm-applet:2407): nm-
applet-WARNING **: nma_menu_vpn_item_clicked: no active connection or
device

I try to debug and get the policies error:

dh@deex:~$ /usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-pptp-service --debug
** Message: nm-pptp-service (version 1.1.93) starting...
** Message: Error: failed to create NMPptpPlugin: Connection ":1.161" is not
allowed to own the service "org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.pptp" due to
security policies in the configuration file

If I execute this command with sudo there is no error but VPN still
doesn't start.

The same setup with Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS is working well

[Bug 1658695] [NEW] Segfault in r300_dri when 2 monitors connected - Ubuntu 16.04.1

2017-01-23 Thread Dash
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I try to connect 2 monitors on an Xpress 1100/1150 video card, VGA and
DVI output. If I connect one monitor all is good, doesn't matter on
which output it is connected.

If I connect 2 monitors, in graphical mode, desktop is launched,
background picture appears but nothing more: no desktop icons nor
application launcher. The mouse cursor appears, goes normally from one
screen to the other but no clic working.

In console mode, output is on both monitors.

In dmesg I see: compiz segfault at 8 ip sp other error 4 in
r300_dri.so

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS

Thanks for your support

[Bug 1278437] Re: can't move link type .desktop files around on desktop

2016-09-18 Thread dash
Just upgraded to 16.04 LTS and a desktop URL link icon can't be dragged
around. When trying to drag such an icon, where it would be dropped
appears a copy of the webpage referred to.

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO SUCK SO MUCH? WHY IS INCOMPETENCE THE NORM?

[Bug 1410869] [NEW] Sound output doesn't work

2015-01-14 Thread dash
Public bug reported:

The current version makes use of the obsolete /dev/dsp architecture for
sound output, and this is no longer supported by default. A new version
using the ALSA library is available from the original source here:

http://www.linuxmotors.com/scavenger/downloads/xscavenger-1.4.5.tgz

A small number of changes in the sound.c source would fix everything.

[Bug 1324698] Re: home ecryptfs directory not accessible in X on boot

2014-09-02 Thread Dash
The problem is coming with ANY file system mounted inside the ecrypts
directory. I faced the problem with an SMB file system.

I removed ecryptfs, since then all is good.

[Bug 1324698] Re: home ecryptfs directory not accessible in X on boot

2014-08-25 Thread Dash
This bug is annoying, nobody uses ecryptfs?

I think the problem comes when an sshfs file system is mounted inside
the home directory. For instance I have /home/dash as ecryptfs home
directory, and inside I mount 'sshfs remoteServer:myDirectory
myDirectory'

Then, when I navigate into the local myDirectory, the ecrypts filesystem
shutdown; I have to give back credentials for the 'ecryptfs-mount-
private' command, make 'cd' to be back in my home, umount the sshfs
filesystem and then restart it. Can be 10 time in 5 minutes as well as 5
times a day ... If it arise too many times, ecryptfs refuses to mount
the home directory and I have to restart the computer :-(

Proble is worth then that: ones logged, my session gets out of the home
ecrypted directory, have to run ecryptfs-mount-private from within a
terminal or to close my session, restart lightdm, wait few seonds
(around 20) and login again. Could be related to screensaver or
hibernate features

[Bug 1324698] [NEW] home ecryptfs directory not accessible in X on boot

2014-05-29 Thread Dash
Public bug reported:

Upgrade a notebook with SSD disk and /home/user directory in ecryptfs,
from 12.04 to 14.04. After installation, on each reboot, the ecryptfs
user partition is encrypted mounted when checking in console mode
(tty[1,2,...,6] but *not* when entering users credentials in X greeting
window. If, before entering those credentials, we open a tty console and
run sudo service lightdm restart and switch back to X greeting
windows, all is good.

In the case of login without restarting lightdm, behaviors are:

- ls -al shows cached directories created from time of login
- ls shows a README.TXT symbolic link to
/usr/share/ecryptfs-utils/ecryptfs-mount-private.txt
- ls shows a ecryptfs-mount-private.desktop symbolic link to
/usr/share/ecryptfs-utils/ecryptfs-mount-private.desktop
- all files and directories from real user encrypted directory are missing

The disk is one partition

[Bug 998743] Re: [Realtek ALC262, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-05-13 Thread Dhiren Dash
Many thanks for the solution. But I just managed to fix it using Pulse
Audio Volume Control. Anyone else having this problem can just try this,

go to terminal and then type the following,

sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

Let the package install. After it installs, goto Dash, and search Pulse Audio
Volume Control. Goto configuration and select Analog Stereo Output. This
worked for me. If this doesn t, try the solution as mentioned above by Dave
Lentz.

[Bug 933115] Re: evince doesn't open PDFs when using right-click Open nor Open with...

2012-03-05 Thread Dash Runner
I am no longer working in this installation of Ubuntu that had the bug.
It was reported as a factual bug in that I could find no reason why
PDFs, connected by extension to open in Evince, were not being opened
unless I started Evince and opened them with File:Open.I tried
disassociating re-associating PDF extensions to Evince without any
success for point-and-click opening in the Ubuntu 11.04 derivative it
appeared in, which had by default hidden the Evince menu link. Let's
hope derivatives of Ubuntu 12.04 are free of this bug.

[Bug 161175] OpenOffice freeze on print stuff - Spadmin crash as well

2007-11-09 Thread Dash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

On Gutsy 7.10, trying to print or to ask preview freezes OpenOffice. I
ran spadmin from a terminal and get this:

well. After a fresh installation of Gutsy, no more printing. Here are
the debugs:

In the cups log we can see a permission denied as well as a illegal seek
(29) Two other computers (Debian Sarge and Sid) are running well with
the same ppds. Remember that this computer also after the Feisty toGutsy
upgrade.
