[Bug 996916] Re: postgresql packages in the removal blacklist making it hard to upgrade

I saw this just now upgrading from fully up to date 14.04 to 16.04.

apt-get remove postgresql-9.3-postgis-2.1

was sufficient to fix it.

[Bug 729181] Re: Can't connect to IPv6 LDAP servers

2012-01-25 Thread datakid
Unfortuantely the fix you have offered here didn't work for me? I've
installed the package and patched /usr/share/perl5/smbldap_tools.pm but
to no effect - I'm getting the same error despite rebooting? I've just
updated to the current Lucid: 10.04.3

Any ideas appreciated

I'll admit that I've not got my head around smbldap totally, but for
reference, the error points to line 322 of
/usr/share/perl5/smbldap_tools.pm and the adjustment suggested above is
to line 324 - after the line 322 else that's causing the trouble?

I'm also concerned that this is given a low importance despite being a
common piece of software on an LTS server release. Since it's blocking
upgraes, which will be security upgrades, I would suggest that this is
actually of higher importance.

[Bug 697911] Re: SSL pop up has no window listing in taskbar

2011-01-13 Thread datakid
1. Yes.
2. Launch Empathy, alt-tab to something else immediately (for example, I am on
an eepc, so screen real estate is limited and am more likely to have apps in
full screen mode). Empathy doesn't load, permanently, until you minimise every
other window to find the certificate security question: This connection is
untrusted. Would you like to continue anyway?
3. Maverick's latest: 2.32.1

[Bug 697911] [NEW] SSL pop up has no window listing in taskbar

2011-01-05 Thread datakid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When I start Empathy, there is an SSL cert pop up that has no presence
on the taskbar - it does not appear on the list of windows available to
me. This causes the account to never connect, it just sits and churns
until I wonder why I'm not getting chats.

Partly the problem here is the time taken for this SSL cert pop up to
pop up - ie, it takes longer than 1 sec, by which time I've already
alt-tab'd to a more useful window.

The result of not having an entry in the window listing on the taskbar
is:

- can't alt tab to the ssl cert pop up
- ssl pop up disappears behind all other windows.
- must minimise all windows until it's found to click ok
- can't use desktop button, as that clears the desktop of everything,
including the pop up.
- can't click on the empathy window to find the pop up

result: empathy fail.

did as instructed, didn't work using opera9.6 and update-manager as
tests over open firefox windows.

restarted gnome to make sure, same result.

I would like this reopened please.

note that

/apps/metacity/general/focus_mode

doesn't actually have a strict mode, but allows you to enter one:

The window focus mode indicates how windows are activated. It has three
possible values; click means windows must be clicked in order to focus
them, sloppy means windows are focused when the mouse enters the
window, and mouse means windows are focused when the mouse enters the
window and unfocused when the mouse leaves the window.

but /apps/metacity/general/focus_new_windows

has a strict option for programs started from a terminal:

This option provides additional control over how newly created windows
get focus. It has two possible values; smart applies the user's normal
focus mode, and strict results in windows started from a terminal not
being given focus.

I rarely start programs from a terminal

Well, that's one opinion. I think it's a matter of perspective.

I think the fact that it's an issue, but the only way to solve it is to
write code...makes it a bug. To me this kind of functionality should be
configurable. It doesn't seem to be. Therefore, bug.

Well, I am a power user - I'm sending 60+ emails a day (gmail in
browser mostly), alt-tabbing all day. I can confirm it happens at
least with firefox when it's first loading, it happens with the ubuntu
update manager and synaptic, it happens with xchat when it is first
loading, it happens with openoffice when it loads, amarok when it
loads, evolutin when it loads, opera when it loads etc.

Good point actually - it's mostly as things load. But since I'm also
in a multi tabbed firefox or the cli often (admittedly I'm in
terminal, not ctrl-alt-f(1-6)) I alt tab back to the program I was in
almost immediately.

Actually, with update manager, it also focus steals when it's finished
downloading and it wants input (ok to install, ok to finish, etc)

ie, flick to desktop, hit launcher, flick back to terminal/other
program, focus stolen as loading program is ready for use.

I think they should stay in the background until I am ready to get
back to them...

cheers
L.

For example Miro takes like 10-15 seconds to load. I launch Miro, then I
start working with Firefox then Miro shouldn't steal the focus.

The bug title should be changed to make it clear what the problem is.

[Bug 317370] Re: A program shouldn't get the focus if the it has been changed between the start and the ready state of the program

2009-01-15 Thread datakid
** Summary changed:

- Focus stolen ever
+ A program shouldn't get the focus if the it has been changed between the
start and the ready state of the program

** Description changed:

+ (note: this was titled steal focus ever but on Adam's sage advice,
+ I've changed it. While I would like this more accurately titled bug
+ fixed, I still would never like to see a program steal focus ever :) tx
+ to adam)
+
  I guess it's a gnome bug.

My focus get's stolen by any number of programs.

This may seem like a duplicate, but it's not - unlike other reports, I
don't really care which particular programs are stealing my focus.

It just shouldn't by anything, ever.

There doesn't seem to be a setting that enables a don't you dare
  regards focus stealing.

2009-01-15 Thread datakid
While adam suggested I change the title on this one, I think I only gave
him examples of start up focus theft because they were the most
noticable - http password requests can also steal focus.

Apache passwd requests...you know, when it's not in browser, but there's
a pop up instead? afaik this only happens when you use a .htpasswd
file

cheers

2008-11-21 Thread datakid
Tremaine Lea's solution didn't quite work for me - killall pulseaudio,
sudo killall pulseaudio and sudo kill pid didin't work.

Sudo kill -9 pid did work, as did restarting pulseaudio return sound
to amarok.

Annoying bug none the less, since it's obviously been around for a
while.

[Bug 211258] [NEW] gcc4.2.3-2ubuntu7, some of string.h not working

2008-04-03 Thread datakid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcc-4.2

I'm new to programming c (uni classes).

When using

gcc -Wall -ansi -pedantic etc

my program, which uses strncpy and memcopy don't work.

Both strncpy and memcpy prototypes (in the c string.h according to
Kerighan and Ritchie's text) look like this:

char *strncpy(char *s1, const char *s2, size_t n);

and are meant to copy n chars from s2 into s1.

At the moment they both copy _all_ of s2 into s1.

I am running hardy fully up to date as of this morning,

[Bug 153146] failing on cups package

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I was told to report this by the update manager:

'E:The package cupsys needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an
archive for it.'

I tried to uninstall cups to get the other 113 updates that I need
(running gutsy for two weeks now) and I discovered that it would
uninstall the desktop as well - boo!

anyway, I'm getting a failing on the cupsys_1.3.2_ubuntu7.deb or

[Bug 110171] kTorrent crashes frequently, randomly

2007-04-26 Thread datakid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ktorrent

I run Feisty, on a Dell Dimension 9200. This happens 1 a day, nothing
unusual is happening - I'm still largely able to download content as and
when I need - I just need to restart ktorrent every so often. I am using
the scheduler. This is the output on the bug, while I haven't done a
diff on the crash output, I'm pretty sure it's the same thing everytime.
