[Bug 352961] [NEW] Jaunty: Netbook Remix has xournal which doesn't seem to function correctly on netbooks

2009-04-01 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix

UNR beta plus updates:

I had a play with xournal over the weekend only it doesn't seem to work
on Most netbooks due to the fact they don't have touch screens. This
a touch screen stylus app and without those it's functionality is non
existent.

You may want to think about remove of the app and maybe introduce a UNR-
Touch meta-package for when touch screens become more common place.

Meta-package could include xournal, touch screen setup, calibration and
other apps for touch screens

[Bug 353190] [NEW] Jaunty: in checkbox-gtk on keyboard text simply typing displays nothing

2009-04-01 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: checkbox

In Ubuntu i386 20090401 checkbox-gtk has an issue testing the keyboard.
The focus is transferred from the Type Text window to the Test
Running window which means typing in text seems to do nothing.

You only need to click on the Type Text window again to re-focus it in
order to complete the test, but that uses something other than the
keyboard.

It would be good if focus could remain with Type Text window and thus
remove the issue.

Right sorry Lool

In sorting this out with Timo I did a fresh install and forgot.

I had the same xorg.conf but with the lines from the intrepid example
added. By adding those lines the mouse and tablet were correctly
recognised but put the mouse on the tablet made the cursor shot over to
the left.

[Bug 347178] [NEW] Jaunty: Regression wacom tablet mouse no longer works

2009-03-23 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom

In Intrepid following the advice here
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WacomTroubleshooting I was able to
get bothe the stylus and mouse functioning correctly.

However after doing a fresh install of Jaunty I can not get the mouse to
function at all.

By adding the recommend from the link above and restarting the machine
if I apply the mouse to the tablet the cursor shoots over to the left
and won't move from that point until I remove it and use the stylus
instead.

My assumption is it is an issue with the way that x.org and the driver
function now. (I could of course be completely of base there though)

[Bug 345361] [NEW] Juanty: Regression in UNR keyring passwords

2009-03-19 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix

Jaunty's version of netbook remix asks for a password for gnome-keyring.
I then need to type this in everytime the system reboots in order for
the wifi wpa password to become accessible.

This doesn't happen in Ubuntu, Xubuntu or UNR from hardy which is why
I'm classing it as a regression.

In Hardy's UNR and Ubuntu you type in the wpa password and it remembers
it but your not asked for a password to unlock gnome-keyring. I think
this feature would also be useful on UNR jaunty too.

[Bug 336755] Re: Specify partitions manually (advanced) is displayed as if it's a partition type

2009-03-06 Thread davmor2
The kde frontend also needs to be looked at. On cd image 20090305 the
take over this hd is still grey.

It looks as if the system is blanking the driver rather than putting
something on it.

[Bug 338159] [NEW] Jaunty: libavcodec52 and libavutils49 conflict with the unstripped versions

2009-03-05 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure what package to file this bug under.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open totem on a freshly installed system
2. Select youtube
3. type in linux
4. double click on any of the videos
5. install the codecs it recommends
6. Wait for the video playback to start
7. goto Add/Remove.. and type in ubutnu-restricted-extras
8. Watch as it fails to install
9. Try sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
10. If failed for charlie-tca but I've not tested
11. Goto synaptic
12. search for ubuntu-restricted-extras
13. Now it installs by removing libavcodec52 and libavutils49
14. It then installs libavcodec-unstripped-52 and libavutils-unstripped-49

The reason for not adding a package is I'm not sure what is at fault.

The only thing a new user will see is that the commands they are likely
to be told to use don't work.

[Bug 337876] [NEW] Jaunty: dl-ubuntu-test-iso download tool is only hitting one server

2009-03-04 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-qa-tools

The way the script was originally written was for a few tester and
directed at one server for convenience and the speed of the server.

However now with it available to Joe Public it has nailed the chromium
server.

To remedy this jpds has modified the ppa version but we need it changing
in the ubuntu package too and sooner rather than latter.

The only change is from rsync://chromium.ubuntu.com/.. to
rsync://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...

The request for change came also from elmo.

[Bug 336641] Re: Jaunty: Netbook-Remix can't shutdown from exit menu

2009-03-03 Thread davmor2
In UNR for hardy there is a list of option comparible with those from
the Fusa applet in Ubuntu. IE logout, restart, shutdown, switch user
etc

In Jaunty's shutdown menu you get logout and switch user. How do you
shutdown without clicking on the button.

If you logout it only takes you to the Login screen and unless you know
to look under options for shutdown there doesn't seem to be another way
to do it.

Pressing the button does shutdown but then you still can't restart,
hibernate or suspend.

[Bug 337274] [NEW] Wishlist Bug: Minimise Evolution/Other mail clients into the new notify-osd comms applet

2009-03-03 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

This is a feature request/wishlist bug.

In the same fashion that you can minimise pidgin's main window into
notify-osd it would be great if you could do the same with evolution.

This would leave the app open but remove it's need to take up screen
real estate only opening it when an email arrives. Also the app needs
to remain open for notify-osd to work with it.

Current solution is to use AllTray to add evolution to the system tray
for the same effect. This would then leave 2 almost identical envelopes
in the system tray.

[Bug 336696] [NEW] Jaunty: Rhythmbox last.fm plugin stop on track 5 if you don't start on track 1

2009-03-02 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

RELEASE: Jaunty
CD/DVD VARIANT: 32bit ubuntu desktop cd
ISO BUILD: 20090226

SYMPTOMS: When you start the last.fm plugin in rhythmbox it lists 5
tracks if you start playback from track 2 rather than track 1 it stops
playback at the end of the fifth track rather than listing the next 5 to
be played

CAUSE: Unknown

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Start Rhythmbox
2. Start the Last.fm plugin (add username and password and download codecs as
required)
3. Start playback from track 2 rather than 1
4. Watch it stop after track 5

WORK AROUND:
If you now select the first track the player will fly through the list putting
no access signs up and then resume normal playback. IE it download the listing

[Bug 336782] [NEW] Jaunty: netbook-remix has duplicate dictionaries

2009-03-02 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix

In Jaunty Alpha 5 Netbook-remix has 2 dictionaries

StarDict in accessories
Gnome Dictionary in Office

This should be lowered 2 one and should be displayed in office section
which seems to be a more sensible position for it

[Bug 336780] [NEW] Jaunty: netbook-remix has duplicate apps for Email

2009-03-02 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix

Jaunty's alpha 5 of Netbook remix contains both icons for Evolution and
Thunderbird this means there are 2 possible apps for email.

Evolution is in Favourites (which would mean it was default to most new users)
Thunderbird is in internet

This should be reduced to one app displayed in both sections.

[Bug 336789] [NEW] Jaunty: Netbook-remix Confusion for new users with them thinking their device has a touchscreen

2009-03-02 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-netbook-remix

In Ubuntu-Netbook-Remix alpha5 there are two menu items that are
specific to touchscreens.

Most Netbook don't have touch screens I believe it would make more sense
and confuse new netbook/Linux/Ubuntu users if this is removed and a
simple touchscreen-meta-package added to the repos which pulls in all
the calibration stuff.

This is what I can see happening else:

Joe Public: I'm returning this netbook the touchscreen dosen't work
Sales: Oh this device doesn't have a touch screen
JP: Yes it does look here's the facility to calibrate it
S: No really it doesn't why don't you have the xp version instead and go away

[Bug 335034] [NEW] Jaunty: NotifyOSD doesn't display the first message from pidgin whilest a movie is in full screen mode

2009-02-26 Thread davmor2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

RELEASE: Jaunty
CD/DVD VARIANT: amd64 Ubuntu cd
ISO BUILD: 20090226

SYMPTOMS: If you receive a message in pidgin but the pidgin window is
closed rather than getting a message from NotifyOSD the window appear
behind the full screen movie and you get no idea that there is a message
until a second message is sent.

CAUSE:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Install jaunty on a test box
2. Start Pidgin open a bonjour account
3. Open a full screen movie in totem
4. Send a message from another box use bonjour
5. Note no notification for the first message
6. Send a second message
7. Note the notifyosd now produces a message.

This maybe a bug in Pidgin but it was the notify window that was
missing.

i don't think it's duplicate. in the other bug the issue is the menu
display of deamon or osd of the notifications. THIS bug report is about
the actual settings that are not being applied after changing them.

and i ONLY have one menu entry which is the pop up notification

 thanks

It is a duplicate. NotifyOSD has no means currently to change position.
The menu entry only alters the old notification system and so has been
removed or should be being removed from the menu to stop confusion.

[Bug 309482] Re: jaunty: Kubuntu OEM enduser setup fails with black screen (nv driver fails)

2009-02-17 Thread davmor2
Brian I think it is a strange combination thing. Kubuntu by itself will
run on the machine using the -nv driver with no issues. However the
minute I try and install in oem mode it fails.

However Oem mode in Ubuntu on the same machine works flawlessly.

I really don't think it is the driver but more what Kubuntu is doing in
oem mode with the driver.

The nvidia gfx home build is at http://www.davmor2.co.uk/pc-specs/home-

My all intel box used to play up in the exact same way. However now it
no longer fails. spec is http://www.davmor2.co.uk/pc-specs/esys1.html

I'll try your suggestions 3 and 4 tomorrow afternoon utc when I do the
next batch of daily smoketesting.

To answer number 5 the last test was on the 20090204 (alpha 4 iirc) and
it was still in place it was this cd where the intel install worked
fine.

I'll upload the log files tomorrow for you. Hope that answers

[Bug 309482] Re: jaunty: Kubuntu OEM enduser setup fails

2009-02-04 Thread davmor2
Okay I installed the nvidia binary drivers today in oem mode and now
it's worked all the way through.

This means that it is the nv driver causing the issues.

[Bug 268502] Re: Bluetooth association no longer works

2009-02-03 Thread davmor2
For me this works flawlessly on my laptop with built in bluetooth.
However mt bluetooth dongle doesn't work at all (or so slowly that it is
unusable)

I'm now wondering if it might have something to do with gvfs any
thoughts?

[Bug 309482] Re: jaunty: Kubuntu OEM enduser setup fails

2009-02-02 Thread davmor2
This is still an issue on my nvidia based box (
http://www.davmor2.co.uk/64test.html for hardware spec) but is no
longer an issue on my intel box.

On pressing ALT-CTRL-F1 I saw an error that read:

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.
  a bit about contact x.org

ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log

In oem-config-log this is repeated 4 times
