[Bug 1962795] [NEW] sshpass terminates when running a remote script if the script executes a program that outputs the text'assword'

2022-03-02 Thread MARK D DRAKE
Public bug reported:

I am trying to automate installing the Teradata database.

The tdvm_init process (a python executable, not that it matters),
prompts for a password using the following line of text

"Please enter the Root Password if it has been changed by the user.
Press Enter to use the default Password:"

sshpass sees the text 'assword' and interprets it as meaning that the
password provided to sshpass was not accepted and terminates.

I guess this probably falls into the grey area between bug and ER. My
suggestion would be to add a flag that tells ssh to stop monitoring for
the 'assword' string after the first occurrence of the string has been
detected.

** Affects: sshpass (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Summary changed:

- sshpass terminates when running a remote script if the scroipt uses the
word 'assword'
+ sshpass terminates when running a remote script if the script executes a
program that outputs the text'assword'

[Bug 1947379] Re: Ubuntu 21.10 Install Fatal Error

2021-10-15 Thread Nathan Drake UCP
Norbert (nrbrtx) my ISO is Ok with the same checksum.

I found a solution for who is facing the same problem:

My thinkpad was with Ethernet Cable and plugged on dock. So I just ejected it
from dock and installed the system disconnected from ethernet. Installing is
going OK from now, as EFI.

As I can see, to reproduce this problem, it is a concern with dock
hardware as the partman daemon can´t find the hard drives/SSD and was
looking for a RAID controller, that is not found, giving the error
logged on journalctl.

I investigated after submitting

All of the __pycache__ directories mentioned in the log were corrupted
from some sort of apparent disk or fs issue. I was able to remove them
and restart the upgrade, and it finished without any other errors

This could probably be closed

[Bug 1837974] Re: Toggle-maximize-vertically/horiz fully maximzes (REGRESSION)

2020-08-11 Thread Fred Drake
For the record, I'm running Xorg.

Are there any diagnostics we can run to determine if these are the same?

This is a long-standing bug. While it may seem insignificant, it does
impact daily workflow for those of us who find maximize-vertically to be
useful.

[Bug 518582] Re: mount ext fileystem fails, booting fails, blkid produces no output

A decade later, found the same bug in grub.

It might not affect "standard" grub usage (e.g. Ubuntu) where it may not
need to probe and guess filesystem type just to boot the system, but
thank you for the excellent diagnosis nevertheless!

[Bug 1715552] Re: VMWare does not start

2019-04-10 Thread John Drake
Running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS with Workstation 12.5.9 installed.
Encountered the dreaded error:

/usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-modconfig: Relink `/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libbsd.so.0' with `/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librt.so.1' for IFUNC
symbol `clock_gettime'

Following @iLugo directions exactly, VMware Workstation is now working.

I followed the git clone directions, checked out the workstation-12.5.9
branch, ran make and make install. Don't forget step 4 above!

Once completing this patching, VMware workstation starts and runs
perfectly.

Absolutely a life saver. Thanks!

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-20 Thread Daniel Drake
Can anyone clarify if this issue is caused by simply having the intel
SPI kernel driver enabled & loaded into the kernel, or does this kernel
driver need to be also combined with something in userspace that does
something with the device before the BIOS gets affected?

2017-03-30 Thread Daniel Drake
Chris and I don't have experience with the G752 series but looking at
one of the dumps from above:

I: Bus=0003 Vendor=0b05 Product=1837 Version=0110

The patches you linked to add support for this ID 0B05:1837 so I think
the function key issue is now solved, as soon as you are able to
build/run such a kernel.

No ideas about the touchpad issue. I would next check if there are
interrupts registered against that device. Another thing to try is
making sure that the intel pin control driver being used on this
platform is built into the kernel, not a module.

[Bug 1558079] Re: cryptsetup tcryptOpen doesn't work anymore

2016-08-30 Thread Joshua J. Drake
I'm on 14.04 (Trusty) and am still experiencing the same issue. I took
the patch from #7 and it fixes the issue for me. Unfortunately, without
you guys rolling updated libcryptsetup4 packages, I keep getting rolled
back to an unfixed version on every update. Subsequent kernel releases
(3.13.0-80 and later) do not seem to fix the problem for me. I'm
currently experiencing the issue with 3.10.0-91-generic.

[Bug 11958] Re: Unable to show hidden files

2016-08-21 Thread Barry Drake
I found a workaround for .thunderbird. I put a character before the
dot, copied it into the home directory, then renamed it after the
transfer had completed the copy. No problem, as Thunderbird had never
been fired up, so I didin't need to rename/delete an existing directory.
Now I have to find a way of getting my many Libreoffice templates into a
low level subdirectory of .profile. Near impossible to make a
workaround. I'm going to look around for a new file manager that works
properly. Maybe Canonical should do likewise if you guys don't get this
issue fixed Do the maintainers not posses a brain?

On dome deb packages, I get a message 'unknown ..etc. cannot install.'
I find that very annoying. I have to use the software center, which
fails to install (presumably because of unmet dependencies). But what
they are is a mystery. I really would like the terminal to be a lot
less picky. Could one of you make a note of that please. If I install
something that does damage, I should have to take full responsibility,
but in a Linux system, I don't want to be mothered! Thanks. Barry.

Steve ... I just want to offer my thanks - and an apology. I'm going
to look at the date, and see what happened, I just can't understand why
I purged it, and why I didn't re-install.

Here it is I tried copying update-grub from my wily installation.

[Bug 1459235] Re: Google Address book: Unable to open address book

2016-06-11 Thread Barry Drake
The call is in camel-sasl-oauth2-google.c, but I don't know where it
gets the URL string that needs changing. I guess I'd do the fix, if I
understood a bit more! How long is that going to take someone who knows
their way around the code?

When you go to the reported URL, you see this message: Important:
ClientLogin has been officially deprecated since April 20, 2012 and is
now no longer available. Requests to ClientLogin will fail with a HTTP
404 response. We encourage you to migrate to OAuth 2.0 as soon as
possible. On that page, is the URL that needs to be called.

The link for migration in the above takes you to:
https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/OAuth2

Regards, Barry.

It gets worse After trying all the suggested ways of restoring the
boot sector and failing, I used the live cd to re-install xenial, with
the other two internal drives I have, disconnected. Ubiquity on the lat
April testing version) - showed grub being installed, and update-grub
being run. BUT when re-booting, I got the grub error prompt. It seems
the problem's been there for a while!

one or two updates. If they don't come back for you, you may have to
wait for the stable version.sc

quicker for me, as I'd already ejected the live-CD. The error was from
gparted, and it simply said 'Failed to delete swap partition'. I then
tried to use gparted manually from the live CD and got the same error.
I'll be re-installing again soon, bit not 'till after Easter. The top
panel menus disappeared again after yesterday's update. Tell me what
you want me to do, and I'll install in whatever manner you like. Tell
me where, and which logfile, and I''ll save it to a thumb-drive.

[Bug 1555633] Re: unity command hangs on ubuntu 16.04

2016-03-11 Thread Barry Drake
I re-installed at the beginning of this week. The iso is dated Monday,
so I installed either Monday or Tuesday. I re-formatted the drive, and
did a complete re-install following the defaults. If you re-installed
using any other method without clearing the drive first, you will find
the problem travels with the install. I say this from previous
experience. If that fails, it must be hardware specific. The problem
for me disappeared the re-install before last - about one or two months
ago. Can you say exactly how you re-installed? I recognize the
problem, and it didn't go away until I did the above. I've never been
able to go through a complete test cycle without doing the above at
least twice.

[Bug 1554967] [NEW] Default installation fails because it cannot delete swap partition

2016-03-09 Thread Barry Drake
Public bug reported:

Yesterday, I re-installed Xenial giving the instruction 'use entire hard
drive'. It failed because it could not remove the swap partition. I
tried gparted, and saw the error. I had to drop into a terminal and use
fdisk to get rid of the swap partition before I could make the default
method use the entire hard drive. I know the workaround would have been
to configure manually. As I'm testing, I wanted to use all the
defaults. Hence the bug report.

[Bug 1539939] [NEW] missing menu in top panel

2016-01-30 Thread Barry Drake
Public bug reported:

I reported this in January, but it seems to have re-appeared after
yesterday's clean installation. Yesterday, I took the new daily build
after I received news that the alpha release was ready. I installed it
after formatting the drive, and the top menus worked fine. I used
Libreoffice writer a number of times yesterday, and again this morning.
I did no further update+upgrade, but after several sessions, the menus
were no longer to be seen. I can live with it until the final release,
but thought I ought to mention it.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1539905] Re: Calendar fails

2016-01-30 Thread Barry Drake
In addition, filters do not work at all. Up until yesterday, they
worked, but failed to work if below fourth level. I have seven filters
on one account.

[Bug 1535579] Re: Libreoffice no longer shows menu in top panel

2016-01-20 Thread Barry Drake
Yesterday, I decided to try re-installing. The problem is no longer
there. I had carried out upgrades for several months, and problems like
this sometimes happen. Sorry. Please close this bug report. Barry.

[Bug 1535677] [NEW] Double-click does not work properly in low-level sub-directories.

2016-01-19 Thread Barry Drake
Public bug reported:

Double click works with great difficulty in very low level sub-
directories. It works usually OK in ~/home/xxx/yyy, but the deeper I
get, the worse is the problem, for example, in
~/Documents/urc/tls/2015-2016, I frequently have to try double-clicking
two or three times - the frequency seems to vary! Double clicking on
items in that directory, or in any lower level exacerbates the problem.
I frequently use directory trees of seven or eight sub levels. This
makes the problem really annoying.

I don’t know why there is no upgrade log as stated. I last upgraded ten
minutes before making this report.

[Bug 1533826] Re: Audacity no longer shows menu in top panel

2016-01-19 Thread Barry Drake
This same bug also effects Libreoffice. As it may well effect multiple
applications, it needs tracing. Can I help? I have reported it as
Libreoffice bug #1535579.
