I've been using wayland since zoom started supporting it, so I haven't
seen this freeze a year. I think this can probably be closed.

Thanks,

[Bug 1946521] [NEW] motion fails to start after install: Permission denied creating log file

2021-10-08 Thread Bruce Duncan
Public bug reported:

I installed motion for the first time on a reasonably fresh Kubuntu
21.04 release. I installed this system in April 2021. It immediately
fails and spams "emergency" log messages all over my terminals. (See
dpkg log below)

The problem seems to be that the default config /etc/motion/motion.conf
specifies:

log_file /var/log/motion/motion.log

but there is nothing to create that directory. I'm not sure whether this
should be a job for postinst, or a systemd ExecStartPre, but I would
argue that not logging to a file at all and letting systemd-journald
hoover up the stderr/syslog messages would be better.

Indeed, if I remove the log_file line from /etc/motion/motion.conf,
motion starts and runs perfectly well, and I get log messages in
systemctl status.

Thanks,
Bruce

[Bug 1926393] [NEW] xdg-mime silently ignores invalid .desktop file

2021-04-27 Thread Duncan Bayne
Public bug reported:

I created an invalid ~/.local/share/applications/mailto.desktop file
(note the quotes in Exec):

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Name[en_AU]=mailto
Exec="mailto %f"
Name=mailto

I then set the default, and queried it:

$ xdg-mime default mailto.desktop 'x-scheme-handler/mailto'
$ echo $?
0
$ xdg-mime query default 'x-scheme-handler/mailto'
thunderbird.desktop
$ echo $?
0

As you can see, no error codes are returned, but the system default
application is returned.

If I fix the mailto.desktop file by removing the quotes, the query
performs as expected:

$ xdg-mime query default 'x-scheme-handler/mailto'
mailto.desktop

Running in verbose mode doesn't give any further information, i.e., that
the .desktop file was passed over in search because it was invalid:

[Bug 1925713] [NEW] Can't connect to an SSH server using a GPG auth key on a Yubikey

2021-04-22 Thread Duncan Bayne
Public bug reported:

I have a Raspberry Pi server, which I connect to using a GPG auth key
that lives on my Yubikey. For example, from console:

➜ ~ ssh pi@nas.local
Linux nas.local 4.19.66-v7+ #1253 SMP Thu Aug 15 11:49:46 BST 2019 armv7l

Last login: Fri Apr 23 01:38:54 2021 from 192.168.1.128

Before the login proceeds, I'm prompted to unlock the Yubikey, and then
I touch the Yubikey to permit gpg-agent to use the key. This is all as
expected.

However, when I try to connect to the same server from Nemo, I am not
prompted either to unlock or touch the Yubikey. Instead I immediately
receive the error "Permission denied".

[Bug 830915] Re: Error during kernel upgrade: Could not locate dkms.conf file

2020-11-26 Thread Glen Duncan
@Syslog.eu:

This simple addition allowed me to stop flailing and zero in on the
problem!

The "Could not locate dkms.conf file" error wasn't enough. Knowing what
it was looking for IMMEDIATELY showed me what the problem was. For
whatever reason, the version number reflected in the folder
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia/ was *not* the same as the installed driver
version. As a result, the contained symlink `source` was also pointed to
the wrong version number. Renaming the folder to the installed version
and updating the symlink allowed dkms to successfully rebuild the
driver. I can only assume the error was a fatfinger on my part as the
incorrect version doesn't exist.

I hope your simple addition makes it's way upstream so it can be useful
to others.

I created an empty file to silence the error, but I'm a bit dismayed
that this file was removed without coordination with the pam project, or
at least patching or configuring pam to avoid this error. Clearly this
impacts more than just a deprecated telnet.

[Bug 1878361] Re: After update in the gnome-clocks package, the sound of the timer and the alarm stopped working

2020-09-23 Thread Duncan
GNOME-Clock
2020.09.23 - 13h42 GMT

Sorry to sound like a noob here - I am not as technical as all the other
posters here seem.

I have just today used Gnome-clock for the first time - downloaded from
Ubuntu 20.04 Software "Ubuntu Software" app. It seems a fine clock but,
as indicated above, the alarm does not work - it activates correctly but
no sound is generated - the sound on my pc is working just fine
otherwise.

I have done 'sudo apt-get update' but this made no difference. Should I
be doing something else?

Many thanks for your help and patience.
Sincerely
Duncan

[Bug 1878723] [NEW] Kernel panic when used with upstart after 0.11-4ubuntu2.1 update

2020-05-14 Thread Duncan Barclay
Public bug reported:

Installing the 0.11-4ubuntu2.1 security update on a Xenial system with
upstart installed, the system crashes with a kernel panic.

The error message is:

Downgrading to libjson-c2_0.11-4ubuntu2 resolves the issue.

Steps to reproduce:
* Create a system with Xenial installed (I'm using an AWS instance with AMI
ami-0f2ed58082cb08a4d)
* Install upstart: apt-get install upstart-sysv
* Reboot
* Update apt and upgrade the packages: apt-get update && apt-get upgrade . This
causes the kernel panic.
* To repeat the kernel panic, run dpkg --configure -a

[Bug 1840328] Re: Regression in overlayfs between 4.4.0-157 and 4.4.0-159

2019-09-21 Thread Duncan Overbruck
I can confirm this bug with overlayfs on top of tmpfs, I think it
happens when a program does fsetxattr on a file.

I was able to reproduce it with sed which uses setxattr when it creates
a new file, the shell does not do this when creating a file and does not
trigger the bug.

`touch /tmp/foo; sed -i '' /tmp/foo; cat /tmp/foo` results in EACCES
from open(2) in cat(1).

sed:
fsetxattr(4, "system.posix_acl_access",
"\2\0\0\0\1\0\6\0\377\377\377\377\4\0\4\0\377\377\377\377
\0\4\0\377\377\377\377", 28, 0) = 0

cat:
open("/tmp/foo", O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

[Bug 1840612] [NEW] Software Center offers multiple version without explanation

2019-08-19 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 19.04
Gnome-software: 3.30.6-2ubuntu4.19.04.1

By default Ubuntu Software offers applications both from the ubuntu
repos and the snap store. that's fine but confusing. The two packages
can have different versions and descriptions, or the same version and
the same descriptions. This is all very confusing for anyone who doesn't
understand the difference.

I'm not going to suggest a specific solution, but here are some
thoughts.

- some key differences could be highlighted in tool-tip text
- the 'snap-store' text could be made into a button like the 'channel and
'license buttons. An explanatory text could be kept there.
- if Canonical thinks it's unimportant which source is used (which is implied
by not giving any caveats) then why not just roll the multiple packages into
one entry (like the current multiple versions available) and make the 'source'
text into an 'any' button which offers a choice of source. The newest version
(regardless of source) could be offered by default.

PS. it's inconsistent that the option to include snappy is a setting in
the Gnome-software package and cannot be set in the Software & Updates
package.

+ PS. it's inconsistent that the option to include snappy is a setting in

[Bug 1726124] Re: DNS domain search paths not updated when VPN started

2019-04-20 Thread Mark Duncan
What does that rls-bb-notfixing tag mean? This is just a bug that won't
be fixed? Split tunnel DNS with openconnect is still completely broken
in 19.04 and it would be very nice to have this working. The last
couple years of Ubuntu releases have required me to ditch systemd-
resolved in order to access my company's internal services while remote.

[Bug 1823366] Re: post-install script returns failure

2019-04-05 Thread Bruce Duncan
This error appeared twice while /tmp/ubuntu-release-upgrader-

errors about the package. I wasn't scared, though.

Afterwards I ran 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' and there was no error.
Everything seems fine.

The solutions here did not work in my case, but a solution which did work for
me can be found in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1022322
which says:

The file causing the problem is /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop
. The line
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity
should be changed to
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;XFCE

There are similar statements above, but none include XFCE.

[Bug 1787604] Re: Cluster stuck in CREATE_IN_PROGRESS while Heat shows CREATE_COMPLETE

2018-11-21 Thread Robert Duncan
I can confirm that this is listed as a known issue in the release notes
for magnum 6.0.1

the issue cites:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/magnum/+bug/1746510

however it's still broken in queens 6.1.0, at least as deployed by
kolla-ansible.

I would add that this is difficult to troubleshoot as there is no error
or warning with debugging turned up and initial troubleshooting would
lead to heat signaling

[Bug 1776044] [NEW] nvidia-340 crashes display in 18.04 Bionic when no Nvidia GPU present

2018-06-09 Thread Duncan Greatwood
Public bug reported:

Upgrading to 18.04 (Bionic) desktop on a machine running 17.10 (Artful)
and originally installed with Xenial 16.04. Previous release (and other)
upgrades had gone without issue.

Run the installer, upgrades to 18.04, and reboots.

Instead of returning to graphical Ubuntu login prompt, booting starts
but gets stuck in a state where the screen is flashing every few seconds
between light grey and black.

After various experimentation, discovered that the graphical login prompt would
return as wanted if I did:
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-340

Note - the machine has Intel graphics, HD Graphics 630 (rev 04).

Why was nvidia-340 ever installed? I believe I setup this machine by
exporting a package list from another machine that DID have nvidia
graphics and then importing it (via synaptics package manager) to the
machine in question.

I believe that nvidia drivers have been installed for all the earlier
Ubuntu releases, but only in 18.04 did they cause an issue.

I tested this theory on another machine with Intel graphics running
18.04, and sure enough installing nvidia-340 broke the graphical login
prompt on reboot - and removing nvidia-340 fixed it again.

The modern SSD (As available in the I2/I3 instance types) and the HDD
(As found in D2) have a native sector size of 4096 Bytes, and that
matches sector size for Linux LVM and pages.

I think you probably have a chunk size of 256, a write (or TRIM) of each
4K sector would be spread into 16 chunks, making each access of the SSD
a partial native sector.

[Bug 1251178] Re: qdbus and qdbusviewer crash with "No such file or directory"

2018-01-08 Thread Bruce Duncan
The solution is indeed to install the qt5-default package.

Maybe this package could be added as a dependency in newer releases?

There is also perhaps an upstream bug where qtchooser could try the
"other" qt version if one fails. (I had installed qdbus5, and qtchooser
was trying qdbus4, which was not installed or wanted.)

[Bug 1728651] [NEW] System hangs after iwlwifi firmware crash

2017-10-30 Thread Bruce Duncan
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to Kubuntu 17.10 my HP EliteBook 820 G3 hangs at
unpredictable times. I have experienced probably 20 hangs. Once the
system is hung no mouse movement, NumLock toggle, VT switch,
Ctrl+Alt+Del, SysRq keys, SSH attempts have any effect whatsoever. Any
audio playing is stuck looping in the hardware buffer. The system is
really stuck. Only the keyboard backlight is still responsive.

The only correlation I have noticed is that the system only hangs if
WiFi is enabled. This morning I experienced two hangs in ten minutes
necessitating reboots. Having disabled WiFi the system has been stable
since ~1100 (~5 hours).

Often, I see a iwlwifi hardware reset in the logs before the system
dies:

/var/log/syslog:Oct 30 11:49:30 fry kernel: [ 6529.550751] iwlwifi
:02:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x8200.

(apport has hopefully uploaded the full log, please lmk if not).
Sometimes the message doesn't make it into the logs, and ext4 truncates
the file at the next mount.

There seems to be no correlation with any messages immediately before
the wifi chip dies. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm at home or at
work. I have wired ethernet at work simultaneously with wifi, but the
wifi provides IPv6 so I would imagine most traffic uses wifi, so it's
hard to say whether there's any effect of the traffic load on the
probability of failure.

Here is a sample of the firmware load:

/var/log/syslog.5.gz:Oct 24 15:37:26 fry kernel: [7.604743] iwlwifi

[Bug 1676973] [NEW] systemd-resolved fails to use non-dnssec caches

2017-03-28 Thread Bruce Duncan
Public bug reported:

Upgraded to Kubuntu 17.10 beta 2 today.

On logging in I was unable to connect to any network services. I
discovered that any DNS lookups returned SERVFAIL. It seems the caches
being used in my university don't support DNSSEC yet and, despite the
systemd-resolved man page saying that DNSSEC=allow-downgrade (the
default) will allow me to use caches which don't support DNSSEC, I had
to explicitly specify DNSSEC=off and restart systemd-resolved.

I can reproduce the bug trivially by changing the
/etc/systemd/resolved.conf DNSSEC= setting back to the default and
trying a DNS lookup.

[Bug 1663462] [NEW] weather-util needs updated due to NWS changes

More info from the developer Jeremy Stanley:

release is 2.2). The data files are also backward compatible with
the 2.0 release if you just want to use the new correlation files
and not upgrade the software. For further details, see the homepage
for the project at:

http://fungi.yuggoth.org/weather/

If you're using Debian/Ubuntu packages, I hope to have updated
versions of these released soon. The relevant bug against the
weather-util-data package is:

https://bugs.debian.org/835264

It also has some additional workaround instructions, which may help.

[Bug 1659717] [NEW] Software Updater - showing Details doesn't display whole download

2017-01-26 Thread Tim Duncan
Public bug reported:

When you click on "Details" on Software Updater while it's downloading
an update you only see the bottom half of the current file being
downloaded. This is the behaviour regardless of the size of the window.
Once the download finishes the terminal window that shows the install of
the update displays normally.

2) The version of the package you are using: 1:16.10.7

Public bug reported:

After a clean install of xubuntu 16.04 and installing package

Chrome selects CJK JP thin for all lang="ja" (when falling back to
"sans-serif" at the end of the font stack) regardless of css font-weight
specified.

[Bug 1552970] [NEW] CN-North-1 S3 Backed Instances are failing.

2016-03-03 Thread David Duncan
Private bug reported:

We are having issues launching a certain Ubuntu AMI instance in cn-
north-1.

Here is the AMI info: Ubuntu AMI ami-fda46a93

Either there were issues with creating the image or Canonical modified
the ACL to prevent from using it.

Can you please follow-up to determine if there were known issues with
this AMI or if there is something more to it resulting in the ACL
changes preventing the launch.

I appreciate a quick response as this is affecting customers in cn-

[Bug 1547771] [NEW] Vinagre / Remote Desktop Viewer command line is missing keep-aspect-ratio

2016-02-19 Thread Duncan Greatwood
Public bug reported:

In the Vinagre UI, there is an option "Keep aspect ratio", a sub-option
of Scaling.

This option does not seem to represented via a command line option, for
instance:
vinagre --aspectfit
(realvnc uses "AspectFit" to represent turning on both vnc-scaling and
keep-aspect-ratio).

Option should be available via command-line in vinagre, not just UI.

[Bug 1516565] [NEW] Strange kernel or scheduling problem

2015-11-16 Thread duncan
Public bug reported:

I see a strange kernel or scheduler problem with Kubuntu 15.04 and
15.10. I have Intel 3960X cpu with 6 cores (Hyperthreading is
disabled). The problem is that when I run many CPU intensive
applications (using full CPU), I cannot fully use all the cores of CPU.
I tried a very simple app, which only multiplies some integers infinitly
to emulate only high cpu usage with out any disk bottleneck. when I run
multiple copies of the app, sometimes the scheduler assign all of them
to a single core! Sometimes "top" shows that all CPU intensive apps are
using only 0% CPU even though one of the cores is 100% utilized and the
apps are definitely working. Sometimes the apps cannot use the full CPU
and the CPU usage of a single app oscillates between 0% to 100%. The
problem becomes visible when there are 4 or more CPU intensive apps.
When there are 6 apps, the mouse movement becomes sluggish and the
system becomes very unresponsive even though the "top" shows that the
CPUs are not fully used. I tried adding intel_pstate=disable in GRUB and
setting scheduler to SCHED_ISO, but no effect.

I tried different kernel versions previously installed. The current
kernel 4.2.0 and the previous kernel 3.19.0 have this problem. Kernel
version 3.11.0-19 worked without any problems.

When I change a device driver( like the NVIDIA binary driver version),
the problem is fixed until the next reboot. Probably changing a device
driver is resetting the kernel and temporally fixing the problem.

fglrx-updates-core/wily-proposed fglrx-amdcccle-updates/wily-proposed'. Seemed
to install successfully. Then I blacklisted amdgpu.

Then I rebooted, and experience the same black screen on startup. Next
steps?

[Bug 1509695] [NEW] Doesn't create /usr/bin/ruby symlink

2015-10-24 Thread Duncan Sample
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Wily I noticed that the `ruby` command didn't
resolve, so I installed ruby2.2 and ruby2.2-dev, but still didn't have
`ruby` in my path. Installing 2.1 again re-established the /usr/bin/ruby
symlink, which I then redirected towards ruby2.2.

[Bug 1488506] Re: Trying to run 2 external displays on my Laptop

2015-09-21 Thread Duncan
Hi Christopher,

Thank you for the feedback. I've done a bit of digging around and what
you are saying is accurate, my BIOS is currently out of date.

I spent an hour or so trying to get my BIOS to update from what I was
able to extract from the .exe file that HP has made available for
download, but I have not yet had any success.

My colleague (same Make & Model machine) will make an attempt at it when
he gets a chance, and I will update this thread again if one of us
manages to come right with this.

Thanks again for the feedback.

[Bug 1488506] [NEW] Trying to run 2 external displays on my Laptop

2015-08-25 Thread Duncan
Public bug reported:

I'm attempting to run two external monitors using my laptop, in addition
to it's built-in display.

The machine I'm using is a HP Elitebook 8570p, and based on everything
that I've read, the machine id physically capable of doing what I want,
but the drivers don't seem to be able to allow it.

I can have either my monitor on the display port -OR- the monitor on the
VGA port active, but I can seem to get both to work at the same time.

[Bug 62430] Re: rhythmbox doesn't do anything with .pls given on the command line

2015-07-07 Thread Glen Duncan
2015 checking in. Why is this still a bug NINE years later? Running
Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, FF v38.0, Rhythmbox 3.0.2. When clicking a .pls link
within FF, FF launches Rhythmbox, and appears that Rhythm box indeed
reads the .pls file (at least it did from SomaFM), and places
appropriate entries in the 'radio' category, but it does NOT *play* that
file unless the user manually clicks the play button. Haven't these devs
ever listened to music before? How is this still a painful, multi-step
process requiring 40 minutes of research to resolve?

[Bug 1067434] Re: Sound output device keeps changing when using headphones

2015-06-12 Thread Duncan-jacob-mk
Just posting to say That I still have this problem, I'm running the
newest linux mint KDE. I don't have pulse audio installed. I had to plug
my main sound into the headphone jack. (it's on top of my case, works
for me)

uname -a
Linux -desktop 3.13.0-37-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 22 21:28:38 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Well looking at the above output I guess i'm still using a 2014-sep
build.

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description:Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca
Release:17.1

So I'm not sure if this is the most recent version or not...

I also get this, it is less critical than the lack of a gui, since it is
impossible for a new user to use the package without the gui.

See the activiation wizard bug. #1297649 - which has still not been

[Bug 1297649] Re: account creation wizard not showing in CLI-only version (trusty+)

2015-01-03 Thread Ronald Duncan
Just created an arch VM and twinkle works fine on arch using the qt3
package. ( You have to build the qt3 package and twinkle ) but this is
straightforward. Just have a few cups of coffee whilst qt3 goes through
all the compiler warnings.

The arch build files just work for both qt3 and twinkle with out any
modification/patching.

It should be straight forward to resurect the qt3 package that Twinkle
depends upon, since this is still working in the older distributions and
runs fine on a modern kernal and set of dependancies under arch.

[Bug 1297649] Re: account creation wizard not showing in CLI-only version (trusty+)

2015-01-02 Thread Ronald Duncan
I have had a problem with the CLI version where it would not dial
numbers. I just did a clean install and upgrade to 14.04 and now there
is no UI. Lucky I had my config but I have not yet had time to test
with this version and the CLI.

NO ui is a major bug, and it should not have been released. The fix is
making QT3 work/keeping qt3 since it was working, not scrapping any/all
apps that work on QT3.

Arch have managed to maintain a qt3 package ??

Update from 13.10 to 14.04 caused me this problem too: the upgrade failed to
install tex-common and emacsen-common and reinstalling did not work.
Combining the comments above with instructions on
http://tug.org/texlive/
this is what worked for me.
If someone can say how this should really be done, I'd be happy to see it.

1. Uninstall everything to do with emacs and xemacs
(I used synaptic package manager, to find what to remove and to completely
remove)

2. Uninstall tex-common and all texlive-* files and

sudo rm -rf /etc/texmf

as in comment 12 above.

3. Remove all texlive files (if any) e.g.

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/texlive/2014
rm -rf ~/.texlive2014

4. Install emacs24 then auctex using synaptic package manager

5. Install tex-common using synaptic package manager

6. Install texlive following the instructions on http://tug.org/texlive/
(Installation from dpkg or Ubuntu software centre or synaptic package manager
don't work for me.)

7. Add paths to /etc/environment as suggested by the installation program in 6.
That is, for the version I installed,
to the end of the PATH line add

:/usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-linux

just before the closing
and add 2 new lines

INFOPATH=:/usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/doc/info
MANPATH=:/usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/doc/man

(without the colon, the manpath to everything except tex will be broken)

8. Edit /etc/manpath.config
by adding line

MANPATH_MAP /usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-linux
/usr/local/texlive/2014/texmf-dist/doc/man

after the last MANPATH_MAP line that already exists.

[Bug 1347147] Re: krb5 database operations enter infinite loop

2014-08-15 Thread Duncan White
Hi, I'm from the original organisation (doc.ic.ac.uk) with the kdc5_util load
problem on Trusty,
I appreciate all your work on fixing this bug. If it's useful info, I can
confirm that taking the
krb5 (1.12.1+dfsg-7) source package [revised version of 1.12.1+dfsg-6 mentioned
above] from
Utopic and locally backporting it onto Trusty, and installing the relevant krb5
packages onto
our experimental slave KDC does fix the original kprop/kdc5_util load problem.
So I'm temporarily
using that until proper Trusty packages come out.

[Bug 390508] Re: notifyOSD ignores the expire timeout parameter

2014-08-09 Thread Duncan Bayne
I was developing a script based on inotify that would use very short-
lived onscreen notifications. Turns out I can't, at least not with
notify-send; I spent some time trying to debug my script before thinking
it might be a bug elsewhere.

This needs fixing either by:

 - making osd-notify honour the setting, or
 - removing it from notify-send, or
 - clearly documenting the issue in notify-send --help

grump :(

2014-08-09 Thread Duncan Lithgow
I just check and there's nothing to stop you creating a family in GRAMPS in
which both parts are of the same sex. The only part I can find which is a
problem is that one part is referred to as the mother and one as the father.

 Hi Rory,

It looks like the Gramps developers agree that this should be changed,
but it seems to have been forgotten.

Perhaps you should follow the link below to the Gramps Project Bug

remind someone about it and if we are luck, to begin work on it.

[Bug 1278089] Re: Parole reports Gstreamer backend error, could not initialise supporting library

2014-05-05 Thread Ronald Duncan
I upgraded to 14.04 LTS, and was switched back to Parole which does not
work. I had previously uninstalled it and switched to VLC which pretty
well always works with anything.

I have tried the following so far to get rid of this error:

parole --xv false
no affect (not this bug there is a decent message that indicates this as a fix)
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras
no affect
sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0-plugins-base
already installed no affect
sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio
not installed still no affect I am trying to play a .mp4

Trying installing totem
The following extra packages will be installed:
  gir1.2-peas-1.0 gir1.2-totem-1.0 gir1.2-totem-plparser-1.0 libgmime-2.6-0
  libpeas-1.0-0 libpeas-common libtotem-plparser18 libtotem0
  libzeitgeist-2.0-0 python-zeitgeist totem-common totem-plugins zeitgeist
  zeitgeist-core zeitgeist-datahub
Suggested packages:
  totem-mozilla gromit
The following NEW packages will be installed
  gir1.2-peas-1.0 gir1.2-totem-1.0 gir1.2-totem-plparser-1.0 libgmime-2.6-0
  libpeas-1.0-0 libpeas-common libtotem-plparser18 libtotem0
  libzeitgeist-2.0-0 python-zeitgeist totem totem-common totem-plugins
  zeitgeist zeitgeist-core zeitgeist-datahub

Parole still does not work
Plays on totem

Tried closing and reopening Parole, so one of the above steps fixed it.

removed totem
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  gir1.2-peas-1.0 gir1.2-totem-1.0 gir1.2-totem-plparser-1.0 libgmime-2.6-0
  libpeas-1.0-0 libpeas-common libtotem-plparser18 libtotem0
  libzeitgeist-2.0-0 python-zeitgeist totem-common zeitgeist zeitgeist-core
  zeitgeist-datahub

parole still works
sudo apt-get remove gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio
parole still works - but no sound

put back gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio

sudo apt-get remove gstreamer1.0-plugins-base
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED
  gnome-control-center gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-faad
  gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-videoparsers gstreamer1.0-plugins-base
  gstreamer1.0-plugins-good libcheese-gtk23 libcheese7

Got a different error
GStreamer Error
Unable to load playbin plugin, check your GStreamer installation.
Parole Media Player cannot start.

Put gstreamer1.0-plugins-base back
Got unable to load autoaudiosink

 sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad-
faad

repeat of error Got unable to load autoaudiosink

installed gstreamer1.0-plugins-good libcheese-gtk23 libcheese7
WORKING - again

Not able to recreate the Gstreamer backend error, could not initialise
supporting library

(A really vague horrible error message - sums up Parole for me no idea
why it is the default)

[Bug 1311489] [NEW] Apache config should be placed in conf-available, not conf.d

2014-04-23 Thread Mark Duncan
Public bug reported:

The Apache configuration for phppgadmin is currently placed in
/etc/apache2/conf.d/phppgadmin. A better place to put this file would

configuration in conf.d is inconsistent with the way Apache comes
configured in Ubuntu 14.04.
