[Bug 396514] [NEW] POV wireless crashes PC upon entry to Gnome

2009-07-07 Thread eliash87
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 9.04 on/from CD.
3) Normal boot.
4) The computer crashes just around the moment when the cursor shows on the
screen. Sometimes before it shows, sometimes a few seconds after, when it has
changed to the clock mode.

Reproducible: Always.

Correlation: This always happens when my PointOfView WLAN 54Mbps PCI
adapter is inserted, and not else. I have had the same problem on CentOS
after manual driver installation, and a similar one on Fedora 10,
although that did not happen every time (more like 2/3).

The problem is the same whether I run from LiveCD or from the harddrive
(Installation from CD works as expected).

I am willing to investigate this further under your advice, if that is
what's necessary to have my WLAN card work.

[Bug 292356] Re: No proper boot after upgrade to 8.10

2008-12-08 Thread eliash87
Way too late. That installation is gone now.

If I remember correctly:
LiveCD worked.
I did not try fix x or anything similar.
I was running proprietary drivers from nvidia. I tried to deactivate them by
doing an xorg reset from recovery mode.
GeForce FX 5200.

I am sorry to not be able to help more.

[Bug 292356] [NEW] No proper boot after upgrade to 8.10

2008-11-01 Thread eliash87
Public bug reported:

I had Xubuntu 8.04 running on my computer when I decided to upgrade to
the new 8.10. I followed the instructions on the Ubuntu site, installing
all other updates first. The upgrade seemed to complete without errors,
but when I boot the machine, the login screen doesn't show up. Instead
only the x cursor shows up in the middle of the screen (one time
changing to a clock or something and then staying in that state), but it
does not respond to the mouse, seemingly locked.

[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive

2008-03-30 Thread eliash87
Maybe I did cut/paste from the hard drive to the flash and then
unplugged without dismounting. The ideal result would be that the files
were saved back to the hard drive, but it would be like 90% my own fault
if they weren't. Maybe Ubuntu should warn like Windows when you unplug
without dismounting. But that would be a feature request, not a bug
report.

So I am just not sure whether I have encountered a bug or not.

[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive

2008-03-29 Thread eliash87
Linux Mint 4, based on Ubuntu 7.10. When I had that worst problem, where
all the files were gone, I used Ubuntu 7.10 upgraded from 7.04.

Steps to reproduce? H. I'd say it is not reproducible always, at
least not from my experience. But, as said, files seem to disappear some
times when I do cut/paste to and from USB flash drives. I am sorry if
the information I have provided is not sufficient to help solving the
issue.

Hmm. Actually I could try to reproduce the problem by moving files,
though... Later, then. If it is a problem of the file system handling,
it will likely be very different now that I have reformatted the drive
with ext2.

[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive

2008-03-29 Thread eliash87
Hmmm.. I can feel I don't like that question... because I can't answer
it properly. In Ubuntu I have only seen the dismount volume option. I
guess that is the one you are thinking about. I must admit that I do/did
not always use that option (Ubuntu does not tell me to...). As to the
actual case, I do not remember, but I think it would have reached my
thoughts if I did not, as a possible explanation for the problem.

Hmm, tell me what would happen if I moved about 50 MB to the USB drive
and then unplugged it without dismounting.

(I will not get angry if this bug is closed because of an insufficient
report and lacking evidence.)

[Bug 208162] [NEW] files gone from USB flash drive

2008-03-28 Thread eliash87
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I had a lot of files on my old flash drive and wanted to move them to my
new one. I moved them via my home folder. Then, when I was done, my
files were gone.

This was on my old installation, but I can provide some possibly relevant
information:
- The drive I moved from was 128MB vfat.
- The drive I moved to was 1GB vfat.

On my new installation, I encountered a similar problem, while not so
severe. I renamed a folder, and then it seemed to disappear. But when I
clicked refresh, it returned. The fstab of my current installation is
as follows (probably f* anyway):

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# file system mount point type options dump pass
proc/proc procdefaults0 0

/dev/sda1 noneswapsw 0 0
/dev/sda2 noneext3auto0 1

/dev/sdb1 / ext3defaults,errors=remount-ro 0
1

#Here is the flash pen
/dev/sdc1 /media/GMINNEPINNE vfat user0 1

/dev/scd1 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec 0 0
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec 0 0

#fstab end

I tried the program testdisk to see if it was possible to recover any of the
data. It was not. But the program gives strange warning messages:
Disk /dev/sdc - 1016 MB / 969 MiB - CHS 1017 32 61
Current partition structure:
 Partition StartEndSize in sectors

Warning: Incorrect number of heads/cylinder 255 (FAT) != 32 (HD)
Warning: Incorrect number of sectors per track 32 (FAT) != 61 (HD)

Warning: Bad ending head (CHS and LBA don't match)

#(end)

I chose Intel/PC partition in the menu. Was that right?

[Bug 208162] Re: files gone from USB flash drive

2008-03-28 Thread eliash87
The last time only one drive was involved, and the folder disappeared
even though I did not remove and reattach the USB flash drive.

The first time is maybe two months ago. I honestly do not remember
exactly what I did, but I know I would have blamed myself if I did
something obviously wrong, like removing the drives while copying. I
did, however, remove the first drive after copying to my hard drive, and
then placed the other drive in the same USB port (without changing any
fstab or such).

I don't trust cut/paste in nautilus, now maybe especially not to/from
FAT drives.

[Bug 202157] [NEW] (copy/cut)/paste fails without warning if the containing folder is renamed before pasting.

2008-03-14 Thread eliash87
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This is probably a variant of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160082

1) I am using Linux Mint 4.0, which actually refers to this page when I want to
report bugs.
cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 7.10

hehe.

3) apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:
  Installert: 1:2.20.0-0ubuntu7.1
  Kandidat: 1:2.20.0-0ubuntu7.1

4) I would expect the files to be pasted normally. If not, I would
expect an error message of some sort which assures me that the files are
still in the folder I cut them from, which they are.

5) Nothing happens when I rename the folder. Nothing happens when I try
to paste the files that were in the folder.

If this is not a problem specific to my installation (Mint 4.0) or my local
settings (Norwegian), it is easily reproduced:
Create a folder with a file.
Cut out the file.
Rename the folder to something else.
Try to paste the file anywhere.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The Line in record and Line in and likewise the Microphone record

While having both Line in and Line in record turned on, toggling one
of them will remove the slider thing, at least on my system. I have had
the same problem with both Mint and Ubuntu. I am using Norwegian

[Bug 34565] Re: Can't right-click-drag icons to move/copy

2008-03-01 Thread eliash87
...which is stupid... It is not intuitive (as in like Windows ;-) ),
and not everyone has a middle button (which makes it less intuitive).

Without knowing about this trick, I found no easy way to create a
shortcut to a file/folder in a write-protected folder. Creating a
shortcut in the write-protected folder is not permitted, and it does not
offer to place the shortcut. Sorry, this is in Linux Mint (mixed
impression so far, anyway). I am not sure how it is in Ubuntu.
