[Bug 17878] Re: hard disk being accessed every 4 sec.

2009-02-22 Thread Enrico Nadrag
I had this strange behaviour too.

On a MB (GA/nforce560) I used a Seagate 7200.11 (SATA) and a fresh install of
Ubuntu 8.10.
I noticed a HDD activity every 4-5 sec, which was very annoying.
Because of the Firmware bug of the Harddisc I decided to replace the HDD with
another one.
I took a Seagate 7200.10 (IDE) and never noticed this problem again.
- so the problem seems to be caused by something SATA-related (?)

But it became more crazy: After flashing the firmware of the 7200.11 I put it
into another
PC (GA/nforce3-150) and also did a fresh install of 8.10. The problem did not
occur on that system!

So in my thinking the cause of this problem is:
- either the firmware of the hdd (cache flush?)
- the driver or some driver related software of the nforce560 sata controller

I hope this can help you locating this effect.

After downloading that .pdf file, choosing it and clicking on Open, the GUI
freezes and nothing happens. I am using Ubuntu 8.10.

Cheers,

[Bug 160763] Re: Acer Aspire 5720 hangs on second resume from suspend, i.e. suspends only once

2009-01-10 Thread Enrico Gueli
Maxim,
thank you for your effort in trying to find out the problem, as you reported in
the other mailing list. It definitely looks like it's a BIOS bug, not a Linux
one. Instead of fixing it with a BIOS upgrade (there were so many since the
initial release), the Acer guys wrote a workaround in the Windows drivers so
that only Windows users can freely suspend their machines. I think it's an
unfair discrimination against non-Windows users.
I agree with you in writing a complain to Acer support. I'll try in the next
days to call their tech support to report the problem and get some info about a
collective complain.

It'd be nice to know if there's any 5720 without this bug...

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot receive files using bluetooth

2008-12-18 Thread marco enrico alviar
Wow this bug is still alive and kicking.

Well I have the same problem as most of you being. I'm using Nokia 6600
(Symbian) with ubuntu hardy (32 bit). My problems are:

1. Can see mounted phone on nautilus but can't see any object in it.

2. Can't send file to PC even though I can send file from PC to phone.
Whenever I try to send a file to PC the phone complains with Unable to
connect.

My work around is to install gnome-bluetooth and downgrade bluez-utils
but with this work around I still can't browse my phone. Can anyone tell
me how to use the fixes mentioned above? Will I be able to browse,
send/receive to/from phone/pc if I apply these fixes?

[Bug 305203] [NEW] Uncorrelated volume wheel events

2008-12-04 Thread Enrico Gueli
Public bug reported:

When turning the volume wheel up or down in my Acer Aspire 5720, the
corresponding keyboard events are random among keycode 114 and 115, with
higher probability for keycode 115 no matter which direction I turn the
wheel (i.e. the volume tends to go up). Also, press/release events are
generated in groups of random sizes of up to 6-7 pairs of press/release
at time, even when I turn the wheel very slowly.

version 7.04) and even in recovery mode via the showkey command.

[Bug 237064] Re: Unable to create archive with OpenOffice document using nautilus integration

2008-11-17 Thread Enrico Gueli
The new OOXML files (.docx, .pptx...) are zipfiles indeed. I can
currently test only for a .pptx file I have, for which create archive
is missing too.

Unlike I said before, not all MS Office files lack the create archive
option. For me, it happens only for .xls ones, for which the Extract
here is completely nonsense (indeed, file-roller shows an archive not
supported error). .doc and .ppt work regularly instead.

[Bug 160763] Re: Acer Aspire 5720 hangs on second resume from standby

No, such a feature isn't even mentioned in the BIOS settings.

I found that bug #206952
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/206952) is quite similar,
although it refers to a different model.
Also, http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Kernel/2008-09/msg06715.html
talks about the same bug with a 5720G laptop. Also that thread showed no
solutions so far.

[Bug 160763] Re: Acer Aspire 5720 hangs on second resume from standby

2008-08-29 Thread Enrico Gueli
I upgraded my distro with apt-get update / apt-get dist-upgrade. The bug is
still there.
In the meanwhile, I upgraded the BIOS to version 1.40 and tried to avoid
loading as many modules as possible, keeping just ext3 and the ones it needs
(jbd, mbcache...), by editing /etc/initramfs-conf/{initramfs.conf,modules} and
running mkinitramfs. The bug is still there.

:-(

Anything else I can do?

Many thanks

It happens only on battery, cpu usage goes close to 100% for a couple of

If you are playing an mp3 the problem is noticeable through the tremendous

[Bug 160763] Re: Acer Aspire 5720 hangs on second resume from standby

2008-05-17 Thread Enrico Gueli
Hello,
I've successfully installed linux-image-2.6.25-1-generic, and run it in
recovery mode (i.e. root shell, no X).
Executed sync; echo 1 /sys/power/pm_trace; /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force (it
complains pm_trace doesn't exist; maybe it was removed in 2.6.25?)

Nothing changed, I still can do suspend-resume only once :(

I've read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnderstandingSuspend. Since the
backlight doesn't turn on, I suppose it's something related to video
BIOS. My graphics card is an Intel X3100/GM965.

In the meanwhile, I've already upgraded the system BIOS from 1.19 to
1.34.

[Bug 214481] Re: [hardy] ltsp-build-client builds incomplete filesystem

2008-04-14 Thread Enrico
Same here. ltsp-build-client ends with:

Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
Using '/usr/share/ldm/themes/edubuntu' to provide 'ldm-theme'.
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package xubuntu-artwork-usplash
error: LTSP client installation ended abnormally

If image is build manually with ltsp-update-image I can boot thin client
but I have no mouse working and the same error message:

This workstation isn't authorized to connect to the server

This can be solved with ltsp-update-sskeys and rebuilding image with
ltsp-update-image. With this I can boot and login but still no mouse
working.

2008-03-21 Thread Enrico M.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This refers to contacts stored in evolution, and shown as reminder in
the calender. All the birthdays after 1.1.1970 show up with the right
year, but when I change the year before 1970, all people turn 38 this
year (2008 - 38 == 1970). So I think there are UNIX timestamps being
used, whereas negative dates (before 1.1.1970) turn to 0 (1.1.1970).

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 - Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-03-07 Thread Enrico M.
I can confirm, that this problem occurs on the same machine as reported

problem.

[Bug 24776] Re: ipw2100 error Fatal interrupt. Scheduling firmware restart.

2008-03-06 Thread Enrico M.
Hi all,

I can confirm for the Gutsy LiveCD the same behavior for my Samsung X10,
which is having an Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2100 LAN 3B MiniPCI Adapter. I
get the same Fatal interrupt message in my /var/log/messages.

I can also confirm, that the workaround given by Fabio M. works for me.
Close to my Access Point, I cannot connect. When I go to the weakest
spot in my flat, it connects without a problem. Due to the lower signal
strength, this may cause the wireless card to use a lower bandwith for
the association process. After that, I can go back to the access point
and wireless network is 100% stable then.

Btw., is any developer reading this thread? Please say hello!

Cheers,
Enrico M.

working better. Unfortunately till now I have not been able to check
this on site.

[Bug 172319] printing error in gnome apps with epson d120

2007-11-27 Thread Enrico Nadrag
Public bug reported:

I have an Epson D120 Printer using their binary driver from avasys.jp.

I can print a testpage, can print from OpenOffice.org and from KDE apps.

The printer does not print from evince, gthumbs, etc
(obviously a problem in apps using gtkprint/gnomeprint)

I get the error (listed under printer status) pips-wrapper failed
I think pips is the name of the epson binary driver.

Perhaps this bug has to do with Bug #158411, but my error message is
different.

[Bug 24147] Re: ooo2 should use gnome print dialog

2007-11-24 Thread Enrico Nadrag
No it should not!

The Gnome Print-UI has more problems up to now, as OOo.
So for example in my case, (Epson D120) I can print from Openoffice, KDE,
Testpage, etc.
... but not from Gnome-Print. Evince, gthumb, etc..

Check for bugs in Gnome-print and you will see that forcing it into a working
(critical) application
would be a really bad idea.

I'm working remotely by ssh on ltsp server and on thin client. I've checked all

This is the dmesg output on thin client, so usb pen is correctly identified.

So device have been correctly picked up by udev rules.

This is the output of the mount command:

I'm on a remote ssh session, maybe this can explain the X related error.
About the second error no idea, the directory /tmp/.username-ltspfs/tmp
is correctly created on the server but not mounted.

The same user can correctly load the same usb pen on another thin

When the user log on a thin client that works well and mount cdrom and usb pen,

[Bug 33212] Re: deleting files across file systems

2007-10-15 Thread Enrico Nadrag
Running Feisty:
I have a similar setup as Warbo.
I use different partitions for my data and mount them in some folders in the
home directory.

Everything works great for a long time (...since breezy I think) but some days
ago I got this error!
But really special is, I get it on only one of my partitions, the other one
runs without this problem.
Crazy, isn't it?

But it gets much more wired. Lets call the partition with the error par1 and
the other mounted partition par2:
If I try to delete (or send to trash) an image on the broken partition (par1) I
get the error: Not on the same file system
But if I open the image with gThumb and press the del-key (in gThumb) it is
gone.
...but not deleted and not moved to trash, I found the image on the root of
par2 (the working partition) after.
I didn' believe and tried it once more: same result.

As in others reports deleting per console (or shift-del) works normal.
Unfortunately this is a production machine, so I cannot do experiments with ..

save the file and reboot, this will disable ncq

2007-05-21 Thread Enrico Schröder
No, the prism54 drivers are neither in the 2.6.22-kernel package nor in the
ubuntu-modules package.
With the 2.6.20 kernel I use the modules

lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/wireless/p54/prism54common.ko
lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/wireless/p54/prism54pci.ko

but I can't find them in the 2.6.22-kernel nor in the ubuntu-modules.

[Bug 104470] Re: firefox crashed -- libflashplayer.so

2007-05-12 Thread Enrico Pangan
I seem to have fixed the hanging problem by using the older kernel
instead of the one that comes with Feisty. In the boot menu, select
kernel 2.6.15-27-386 instead of 2.6-20-15-386 and firefox will not hang
while browsing pages with flash media (like YouTube).

Now, does this mean the bug is with the latest kernel and not with
firefox or the flash plugin?
