going to be a new theme too. I will believe it when I actually see it.

[Bug 276594] Re: New [TEMPORARY] default Intrepid wallpaper is green and unattractive

2008-10-09 Thread exploder
WOW! The brainstorm idea must have another hundred or so posts about how
bad the wallpaper is! I wonder if there is a world record for bad
artwork? Intrepid could have a world record on it's hands! Between all
of the posts about the default wallpaper there are thousands that think
it is terrible.

Is there any news of a new wallpaper yet? Something official?

[Bug 276594] Re: New default Intrepid wallpaper is green

2008-10-06 Thread exploder
The entire point of the bug report is that an overwhelming number of
people think the wallpaper is horrible. If you looked up the word
hideous in the dictionary it would say see Ubuntu Intrepid. There has
been a new theme promised twice and this is not even an attempt to
deliver this. This is how Microsoft handles things, they completely
ignore what the end user's want. Is this really how we want Intrepid to
be viewed?

I have now read two reviews that have had very negative comments
regarding the theme and wallpaper. There are one man distributions with
better artwork that this! Ubuntu is probably the only distribution in
history that has a bug report filed against it's artwork. Doesn't that
say something? Does any other distribution have hundreds of reply s on
it's forums about how bad the the wallpaper is?

There needs to be change. Two releases now people have been anxiously
waiting for change in the theme and wallpaper. I thought Ubuntu is
Linux For Human Beings. Human beings are asking for decent artwork.
What possible reason could there be for not having better artwork?
Ubuntu can build a distribution that is #1 on Distrowatch.com but can
not include better artwork than the current default?

Come on, this is bug #1.

Confirmed. The default wallpaper is terrible and it does not conform to
the Ubuntu look at all. A new ATTRACTIVE theme was promised for this
release and I agree that there is still plenty of time to fix this.

[Bug 276594] Re: New default Intrepid wallpaper is green

2008-10-03 Thread exploder
I subscribed to the mailing list as suggested. With all due respect,
this bug report was written because a new theme has been promised twice
now. The current default theme is hideous and people are trying their
best to speak up about it. There is an outcry for change and the
community wants to be heard. I have read one review on the beta and the
new artwork was mentioned in a very negative manor. There is still time
to change this situation and community members have submitted some
quality artwork that could be used.

There was community outcry about the EULA that Mozilla wanted to include
and there was change. The default artwork is no different and it is time
for change.

[Bug 276594] Re: New default Intrepid wallpaper is green

2008-10-03 Thread exploder
I think that the gdm theme looks better than the previous one. Possibly
if the wallpaper had similar colored circles it might look pretty good.
What spoils the wallpaper is the green and magenta circles. The green is
especially distracting. The shade of brown used in the wallpaper seems
to look alright with the default theme and the included dark
theme.Possibly some fine tuning of the colors of the circles would give
the default wallpaper a pleasant effect.

[Bug 203722] Re: Double clicking on Floppy Drive gives an error (Unable to mount location) despite it's mounted but not opened in Hardy RC

2008-05-16 Thread exploder
Here are a few things I have noticed.

In Ubuntu Hardy I have all of the floppy drive problems mentioned in
this thread.

In Xubuntu Hardy the same floppy drive and disk work as expected.

Both Ubuntu and Xubuntu use the same kernel and gvfs but Xubuntu uses
Thunar as it's file manager. So, would the problem in Ubuntu Hardy be an
issue with Nautilus?

2008-05-06 Thread exploder
I applied all of the Hardy updates 05/06/08 and the Network Manager
errors are gone and the Usplash is working on shutdown and re-start! I
have re-booted the pc several times with no problems.

I do not know the specific package that fixed this, but it is nice to
see things are looking good! Hopefully the problem will not return.

Can anyone else confirm this? Also, does anyone know the specific
package that resolved this?

[Bug 216266] Re: Usplash problem on shutdown.

2008-04-27 Thread exploder
I just wondered because I have Hardy loaded on three PC's and the only
one that was effected by this problem was the one I was using Evolution
on. It could be Network Manager because the first time the bug appeared
I was able to reinstall Network Manager to resolve it. Reinstalling
Network Manager will not resolve the problem on Hardy final because
things were updated.

I am just trying to find out the cause and cure because once the problem
appears there is no way to fix it other than reinstalling Hardy.

resolved. I have asked other user's that were affected by this problem
to try re-installing the package and post their results on the

I will report the results here as this may be just be a flaw in the way
the package was updated and may have no effect on a daily build of

[Bug 203722] [NEW] Floppy Drive does not work in Hardy

2008-03-18 Thread exploder
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Hardy beta 6 updated to 3/18/08, is unable to use a floppy drive

error.

Cannot invoke CheckForMedia on HAL:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method CheckForMedia with
signature on interface org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage.Removable
doesn't exist

If I try and use the floppy drive from Computer I receive this error.

Unable To Mount Location

No media in the drive

The floppy drive and the disk I am testing with are in perfect working
order. Something else I have noticed is that the icon for the floppy
drive is larger than it should be in the file browser.

I reported this bug once before and it had been moved around. The bug is
still present and this drive has worked fine in previous versions of
Ubuntu. I have resubmitted this bug because I felt that the problem
needs looked at and fixed before the final release of Hardy. Previously
my bug report was associated with a CD-ROM issue and seems to have been
forgotten.

[Bug 200288] [NEW] Samba updates 3/9/08 break Grub.

2008-03-09 Thread exploder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbclient

Todays updates to Samba break Grub and leave the system in an unbootable
state.

I am running Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 6.

The updates causing the problem are from 3/9/08.

The packages that are affecting Grub are;

libsmbclient
samba-common
smbclient

I posted a warning in development on the Ubuntu forums. I have tested
these updates twice and was left with Grub broken on both attempts to
use these updates.

[Bug 197352] Re: Applications unable to access Filesystem

By applications I mean Gimp, Firefox and anything else that should have
the ability to browse the filesystem. Firefox is a good example because
if you need to get to /usr/bin/ to change applications Firefox uses for
say multimedia, there is no way to give it the path.

Just trying to do my part to help make this a great release.

[Bug 197352] [NEW] Applications unable to access Filesystem

2008-03-01 Thread exploder
Public bug reported:

I have found that applications are unable to access the Filesystem
feature of Nautilus. Applications are able to access other features such
as Home, Floppy Drive, etc. but not the Filesystem.

The version I am using is Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 5 fully updated to 3/1/08.
This bug might be related to bug #66199. I felt that this was a critical
concern and if this is a duplicate please redirect me to the correct
place for this.

I understand that Nautilus is being completely changed for this release
and want to do my part to ensure good functionality in Hardy.

[Bug 197128] [NEW] FDD not working in Hardy.

2008-02-29 Thread exploder
Public bug reported:

Hardy Alpha 5 updated to 2-28-08 recognizes that my system has an
internal FDD but can not access it. I have verified that the FDD and the
disk are both in perfect working order.

Nothing happens when I try to mount the drive, the drive does not do
anything at all.

I tested the drive by setting the FDD as the first boot device and using
an old Win 98 boot disk. The drive worked and could read the disk. The
drive just will not do anything in Hardy.
