[Bug 1432194] Re: Graphics unstable on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 using Intel HD Graphics 5500

2015-04-15 Thread faceman
I confirm that this is a problem on XFCE as well. I'm on a Carbon X1 3rd
gen, and got the corrupted characters and other artifacts/missing
objects (Icons, ui elements, etc).

I used the SNA workaround, and have been bothered by the slow
performance ever since. Specifically, scrolling in most apps (most
notably in a browser) is excruciatingly slow. The time it takes to
render anything on screen is really noticeable (and by noticeable I mean
painful.)

I use this laptop for work in Inkscape, Gimp, Scribus for graphics
layouts, etc, and it's only barely usable compared to my 6-year-old x100
original. It's the main issue which keeps this from being an awesome
Linux laptop.

Any idea on whether the Intel drivers are supposed to get some attention
for this?

[Bug 1303736] Re: Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2014-05-22 Thread faceman
The ppa fix from comment #56 fixed the issue on a Lenovo X200 as well as
a System76 Pangolin Performance.

Thanks a ton!

Will there be any issue with keeping this ppa updated?

[Bug 625662] [NEW] autofs prevents suspend/hibernate

2010-08-27 Thread faceman
Public bug reported:

I can't get my laptop to suspend or hibernate while autofs is active
(I've tried with only nfs connections or only sshfs connections).

It doesn't matter if the connections are alive or not - only that they
are potential.

Connecting with nfs or sshfs manually doesn't cause the problem. As
soon as I stop autofs, the suspend and hibernate functions work again,
and cease to work when I restart autofs.

This happened sometime after upgrading to Lucid - worked fine for
several releases previous.

[Bug 153457] Re: iguanaIR support not functional

2009-04-24 Thread faceman
I was incorrect - it turned out to be my own version of lirc (which I
had compiled once and installed completely manually) which was working.

I can't even reproduce the success, much less in a .deb which can be
used to install lirc correctly.

Seriously, can this get some attention? I'll be happy to do whatever I
need to so that IguanaIR can be included in the lirc package.

[Bug 153457] Re: iguanaIR support not functional

2008-11-23 Thread faceman
I just tried it and got the same error I posted above.

I had also written an email to the iguana guys and I think they're
looking into it. Meanwhile, if anyone can interpret what the problem
is...

So...

is there any possibility of either getting a fix applied or someone
helping to diagnose the problem?

[Bug 153457] Re: iguanaIR support not functional

2008-10-31 Thread faceman
I'm sure you're all aware, but this is still a problem in Intrepid -
both lack of IguanaIR support and ability to compile as per the above
directions. I still get the previous error when following directions
above to compile LIRC.

[Bug 153457] Re: iguanaIR support not functional

2008-10-19 Thread faceman
I followed the directions for rebuilding LIRC in Hardy with Iguana
support - IguanaIR is installed, the header is in the right place, but
the compile breaks:

dh_shlibdeps -s
dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: no dependency information found for
/usr/lib/libiguanaIR.so.0 (used by debian/lirc/usr/bin/irrecord).
dh_shlibdeps: command returned error code 512
make: *** [binary-arch] Error 1
dpkg-buildpackage: failure: debian/rules binary gave error exit status 2

I know Intrepid is just over the horizon, but I'd like to make this work
- it may be a while before I can upgrade.
