[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness
@Canonical: Why don't you make the lowlatency kernel as the default one instead of generic kernel? This should solve the problem of bad responsiveness correlated with graphical user interface. Even if the throughput isn't getting better with lowlatency kernel - it feels much faster if your mouse pointer moves _without_ dropouts or menus pop up instantly under heavy disk I/O. On graphical desktops it's not always the real throughput what makes the system feels fast, but the responsivness! Even if it takes a second longer to copy a big file, your system feels much fast if mouse pointer still moves _without_ dropouts or menus pop up instantly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131094 Title: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/131094/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1003266] [NEW] Printing/scanning not possible with HP Laserjet 1212
Public bug reported: Laserjet 1212 does not work. See attached syslog (Relevant information starts at line 268). I did the following steps: 1. Plugged in Laserjet 1212. 2. Printer was added automatically by Ubuntu. 3. Printing test page was not possible. Seems Laserjet 1212 ist not in list of supported printers (See attached log file). 4. Scanning with Simple Scan was not possible. 5. Removed apparmor completely. 6. Tried again printing/scanning but it did not work either. 7. [Bug 933960] [NEW] FRQ: Make Ubuntus default theme (e.g. Ambiance) default Gtk+ theme
Public bug reported: FRQ (Feature Request): Make Ubuntus default theme (e. g. Ambiance) the default fallback Gtk+ theme. The problem is: If you log out for example and the gnome-settings-daemon exits before the desktop session closes completely, the Gtk+ theme falls back to its current default theme. That means it changes for a few seconds from Ambiance to the default plain outdated looking Gtk+ theme which _doesn't_ look good and hurts the eyes! [Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations
It seems the problem is gone in Natty Gnome Classic mode: In Natty the Indicator Applet Complete is used. It says An applet to hold all of the system indicators. This applet is a container which holds other applets. The good thing is, that the individual applets _cannot_ be moved but only the whole applet container! With this applet container it seems that this applet solves the problem with moving applets apparently around! This nice Indicator Applet Complete is avalaible in Lucid LTS, too. But I haven't tested it there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44082 Title: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-panel/+bug/44082/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 258202] Re: [i965] Garbled output on external screen after login (Intel GM965; incl. work around)
I have a similar problem: I have an Thinkpad T61 with 1280x800 and an external Belinea TFT monitor with 1680x1050. I position the external monitor below my Notebook TFT display with the screen resolution tool. After a few minutes, the fonts get garbled (see screenshot). That happens with and without Compiz. If I change resolution to for example 1024x768 on both screens, fonts look good again. But after a few minutes they look garbled again. I think I found the problem: Have a look at comment 4 in bug 252094: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/252094/comments/4 I also replaced EXA through XAA and everything seems to work fine again. I know this is a plattform for bugs, but it seems this major bug won't get fixed in hardy - please correct me if I'm wrong... that's why I post some lines for people who want to work with their Kubuntu without getting their memory eaten up... I recommend using wicd: http://wicd.sourceforge.net/ I had no problems with it so far! It uses less memory and I reached all wireless lan's with it without problems! Just add the following line to you /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://apt.wicd.net hardy extras The only thing which you have to choose manually is the encryption of the wlan. Just start the GUI with: /opt/wicd/gui.py If you should have problems with it just restart the daemon and refresh the list with available wlans: sudo /etc/init.d/wicd restart -- Memory Leak in NetworkManager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203016 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is a critical bug in my point of view, because a beginner doesn't know what to do! Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Main menu Systemsettings 2. Choose 'Monitor Display' settings 3. Become system administrator 4. Adjust the settings for an external non TFT monitor, so that it is below your laptop display (_no_ clone mode) 5. Logout you session and X server won't start correctly any more I attached xorg.conf files - xorg.conf.original is the file which was detected by Kubuntu while installing it ** Affects: kde-systemsettings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu display settings completely screwed-up xorg.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 237291] Re: Brightness settings not remembered on T61
Hello Andreas, first I updated BIOS to new version but it didn't help. Then I did the steps mentioned: 1. I adjusted screen brightness to 42% in kde-guidance-powermanager 2. Did the other steps... 6. When my session came back, brightness was much to bright again; When I pressed brightness down key once, the pop-up said 20% -- Brightness settings not remembered on T61 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/237291 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 128852] Re: Problems with resume from suspend to RAM on Thinkpad Z61m
@flar: Because of the bug of Gnome Power Manager and other bugs which the Gnome panel has (like moving objects on the panel - it's like in a disco ;), I switched to KDE until these things get fixed. There the power manager suspends to RAM and resume works, too. There is still a problem that after about 3 times Suspend to RAM I can't resume any more - that bug is there since 7.04. But nevertheless I have less problems with suspend and the panel in KDE at the moment and I use the Gnome update tool, system monitor etc. which are better than KDE pendants in my point of view. -- Problems with resume from suspend to RAM on Thinkpad Z61m https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 147369] Re: Printing via HPLIP does not work any more
As an end user I don't care if I need a hp:/ or a usb:/ URI for my printer! I just want to open HP Toolbox to see how much ink is still in my cartridge etc. This should be possible out the box without hacking in command line. ** Attachment added: Opening HP Toolbox fails http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9705802/HP-Device-Manager_-_No_Installed_HP_Devices_Found.png -- Printing via HPLIP does not work any more https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
