[Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working

2016-01-07 Thread D Fine
OK moving back to confirmed

Have had the new BIOS running for a week and have seen the issue recur
several times.

Current workaround is to boot up, and then open [ System Properties -->
Mouse and Touchpad ] mouse properties, where i will only see General
(and not Touchpad). I then close the lid and walk away for several
minutes. It seems that lately this works after 1-5 tries, but I suspect
its really luck of the draw. In every case, after one suspend or
laptop-lid-close, the Touchpad category will show up, but will not
necessarily mean that the touchpad works.

Hi

[Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working

2015-12-24 Thread D Fine
im going to change the status to incomplete pending one more replication

I had restarted the machine during the BIOS flash as per the utils
request, and then ubuntu 14.04 came back up there was no mouse.

I did my little dance of closing the lid and waiting for a while, which
was not working for about 3 hrs straight yesterday, and it immediately
started to work after first try

I want to see this issue happen at lest once again on a completely fresh
boot before marking it confirmed again in order to not waste anyone's
time.

Thanks for everyone's help so far!

Cheers

Re: [Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working

2015-12-19 Thread D Fine
Hi Joseph,

My battery ran down. When i plugged booted up everything was working, so
it's really intermittent, and the steps to resolve seem to always involve
always a reboot (after sometimes several times trying to disable the
trackpoint in BIOS, boot in and then enable trackpoint in BIOS and boot in
... but this does not always work), or a suspend. Several kernel versions
have had this problem, and so I was sort of starting to wonder if there was
some kind of a patch war going on behind the scenes, breaking it then
fixing it.

It might just be my hardware too, unless we see this from other users. I
did initially need to get this trackpad replaced a year ago, and so it
might be degrading?

As i mentioned, it has also a touchscreen. Idk if this can cause bus
conficts. One interesting thing is that when i disable the trackpoint in
bios, i can often get the pad itself to show up again and wok, but the
buttons won't work. So we've got the touchpad, the trackpad and a
trackpoint possibly conflicting?

i'd be hesitent to check the upstream kernel for sec reasons, since i work
on this laptop, but i can certainly tell you if i see the problem once it
gets pushed out. I'll just note that uname -a is currently:
Linux x1 3.13.0-74-generic #118-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 17 22:52:10 UTC 2015
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
and if i see a problem on a later version let you know?

thanks for your reply!

I should also note that this Lenovo carbonx1 generation 1 has a
touchscreen (have seen that if there's on same bus there can
be.problems) ... It has no bios option to disable touchscreen nor is
there any kind of function key to disable touchpad

[Bug 1527740] [NEW] Touchpad intermittently stops working

2015-12-18 Thread D Fine
Public bug reported:

Touchpad intermittently stops working on lenovo carbon x1 (gen1)

If I close the lid, or sometimes disable and then re-enable touchpad in
BIOS, it may sometimes come back. Sometimes running the software
updater seems to fix or break it, but this may be incidental

also perhaps incidental, im using virtualbox alot, and thats really the
only thing new in my workflow.

when it doesn't work, xinput list sometimes does not show the device.
Once it shows, i can see properties in system settings -> mouse and
touchpad', but that doesn't necessarily mean the touchpad is going to
come alive.

If it does start to work, it often works across several reboots.

i've attached some additional files in a tarball:
-- beforeaAndAfterLidClose -- this was a run of cat /proc/bus/input/devices
before and after closing lid ... note that after closing and reopening, the
TouchPad shows up.
-- dmesg
-- devices: a full '/cat/proc/bus/devices', obtained after the touchpad
reappeared, which will show the vendor information

[Bug 1234400] Re: Cannot log in users if their Xauthority file is corrupt.

2013-10-13 Thread Edwin Fine
This seems to happen every time I install a raring update or upgrade,
but I haven't updated often enough to swear to this. I can tell you
that I had this problem twice, which is exactly 2 times more than I
should have.

Basically, I get the login greeter screen, type in my password, it goes
away for a couple of seconds, and then returns to the greeter screen
without any visible error message. This is a serious WTF moment.

I was able to work around it (after a *lot* of scratching around and
looking in /var/log/lightdm/ and elsewhere, which really didn't help
much, and online searches, which did, eventually), as follows.

In desperation, I created a new user using a console (Ctrl-Alt-F1)
session and usermod (lucky for me, I know a bit of sysadmin stuff). It
was able to log in with no problems, of course. After getting a clue
that .Xauthority was the likely culprit, I simply copied the new user's
.Xauthority file over the one in my home directory.

This is not necessarily the best way to do it (probably deleting the
file and running 'xauth generate :0 . trusted' is), but that's what got
me over the hump.

[Bug 1183832] [NEW] Evolution regularly empties (and completely reloads) my IMAP+ inbox

2013-05-24 Thread Adam Fine
Public bug reported:

Every few minutes, when performing some other function like checking for
new messages, my inbox will lose most of my email messages (showing only
emails from Jan 1, 2013 and earlier).

The next time I check for new mail, it will download the whole inbox
from the server. No emails seem to be lost in the transaction, but does
take some time to download the whole index of emails again each time -
and this happens very frequently.

I believe this is new, as of the 13.04 Ubuntu upgrade.

This hang in installation might have to do with the flash component, which also
hung when i tried to install it from ubuntu software center alone (i.e. w/o the
whole restricted extras package). I was trying the restricted extras package
because i thought that might be a 'safer' way to get the flash component.

[Bug 692619] Re: ISRC codes containing letters are lost

2011-06-23 Thread Adam Fine
Hi Pedro, thanks for checking in.

I just checked in version 2.32.1. ISRC codes still do not save at all in
the brasero project files.

As before, if the code has only numbers, it will save okay. But all
proper ISRC codes necessarily contain letters as well, e.g.:

[Bug 594245] Re: Rhythmbox Last.fm plugin only scrobbles first song when listen to radio

2011-02-05 Thread Dave Fine
I'm seeing a similar problem (also using Rhythmbox 0.13.1).

Usually the last.fm plugin only scrobbles the first song and misses
everything played after that. Sometimes it is able to scrobble correctly
though. And one more observation: my last.fm profile will display the
correct listening now track, but it usually won't save it in the
history of my played tracks. I think I have the same issue the rest of
you are seeing.

[Bug 692619] [NEW] ISRC codes containing letters are lost

2010-12-20 Thread Adam Fine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

ISRC codes containing letters (ISRC codes will contain letters as well
as numbers) are not stored by Brasero in the project file. They can be
entered by altering an audio file's tag information, but the data will
not be stored in the project file and will dissappear the next time the
tags are edited.

Status in “phpldapadmin” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: phpldapadmin

 Ubuntu release: 9.04
 phpLDAPAdmin version: 1.1.0.5-6ubuntu3

This bug occurs when attempting to rename a cn entry when the only
difference between the old and new cn entry is in capitalization. It's easy
to reproduce: just try to rename a cn for (say) an inetOrgPerson by only
changing the spelling (e.g. JohnMclean to JohnMcLean), and you should see
 this:

Fatal error: Call to a member function rename() on a non-object in
 /usr/share/phpldapadmin/lib/Tree.php on line 171

Line 171 of this file is as follows:

 166: $olddnlower = $this-indexDN($oldDn);
 167:$newdnlower = $this-indexDN($newDn);
 168:
 169: $this-entries[$newdnlower] = $this-entries[$olddnlower];
 170: unset($this-entries[$olddnlower]);
 171: $this-entries[$newdnlower]-rename($newDn); // Fatal error

The problem is in line 170.

Let's say the cn was JohnMclean, and we wanted to change it to JohnMcLean
(uppercase 'L). When the old and new names are both lowercased in lines
166 and 167, the code that is executed is effectively this:

 unset($this-entries[johnmclean]);
this-entries[johnmclean]-rename(JohnMcLean); // We just unset this
 very entry - BOOM

The fix is obviously not to unset the variable if old and new names are
equal when lowercased. Fixed code (works now, tested with same name,
different name, change only in spelling) is:

 169: $this-entries[$newdnlower] = $this-entries[$olddnlower];
 ***:   if ($olddnlower != $newdnlower)
 170:   unset($this-entries[$olddnlower]);
 171: $this-entries[$newdnlower]-rename($newDn);

[Bug 112614] gnome-netstatus crash

2007-05-05 Thread Dave Fine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-netstatus-applet

there seems to be a memory leak: my memory will slowly build up how much
memory it is using (i've seen it at 8% out of 2 gig). then, at random
the applet will crash; i will get an error message. and i watch my
memory usage drop back down to normal. i restart the applet, and a
couple days later the same thing happens.

[Bug 52485] Installation of package fails

2006-07-09 Thread Mundo Fine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xarchon

When using synaptic to install package xarchon 0.50-9build1, synaptic
marks the package xarchon-theme-default (same version #) as a required
dependency.

However, when installing, an error occurs. The terminal output is:

 Selecting previously deselected package xarchon-theme-default.

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Also, synaptic generates the following error window:

The end result is that xarchon-theme-default is installed, but the
xarchon game package itself is not. Synaptic reflects this -- xarchon
