[Bug 117995] Re: at-spi registry not found when in second session
My previous assumption was not completely correct: it seems that nx is not the problem. In fact: If I log out of the automatically opened session with vnc before I try to connect with nx, at-spi works fine in the nx session. Consequently, I now wonder whether the problem is not that at-spi does not start in a new session when it is already running in another session. [Bug 118803] Re: very long boot - hdd missing - irqpoll helps
I updated to kernel 2.6.20-16.29 and now it boots in a normal timeframe without having to add the irqpoll option. However, the led on the tower that indicates disk accesses flashes steadily. Could it be related to the cdrom issue? Indeed, though the cdrom icon does not appear anymore on the desktop, the 2 cd-drives are listed next to the hdd volumes in the sidepane of the nautilus window. -- very long boot - hdd missing - irqpoll helps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 95105] Re: kernel.log syslog filling up with repeated ata2 and cdrom messages
I tried kernel 2.6.20-16 again 3 days ago and the continuous filling of logs does happen anymore. However, there are other issues, that do not belong here: boot duration of more than 30 minutes and missing hard disks. Adding irqpoll to the kernel options resolves the problem. I will look whether such a bug is already filed, otherwise I am going to file it. -- kernel.log syslog filling up with repeated ata2 and cdrom messages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95105 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 118803] very long boot - hdd missing - irqpoll helps
Public bug reported: There are already similar bugs (e.g.: bug #117314, bug #116996, bug #115915,...), but I don't know whether it is exactly the same; so I preferred filing a new one instead of potentially doing mess in another bug. Maybe somebody more knowledgable will mark it as a duplicate of some determined bug. I am using kernel 2.6.20-16 and it takes very long to boot: last time about 45 minutes. Moreover, when it finishes with booting, the harddisks connected to the onboard sata controller are sometimes missing. As suggested in similar bugs, I added the irqpoll parameter to the kernel options in menu.lst, and the boot time seems to have returned to normal. However, with the irqpoll, it shows the cdrom icon on the desktop even if there is no cd in the drive. I am going to add the output of dmesg, lspci -vv and lspci -vvn to this thread generated first without the irqpoll option and then with the irqpoll option. Please, let me know if you need further information. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- very long boot - hdd missing - irqpoll helps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118803 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 117995] at-spi registry not found when logging in with NX
Public bug reported: Ubuntu is installed on a remote headless machine that is configured to automatically login into a session with administrative rights. When I connect to the remote ubuntu machine by using vnc, everything seems to work as expected. As applications requiring at-spi work, I suppose that at-spi is also running as it should. When I connect to the remote ubuntu computer by usung nx, as soon as the nx-client window opens, I get a dialogue telling me that the accessibility registry has not been found and that the session has been started without assistive technology support. Only after dismissing the dialogue does the desktop appear. I tried removing the NX packages and reinstalling them, but the problem persist. It occurs every time that I open a session through NX and applications requiring at-spi do not work. Could it be that it does not work in NX because it is already running in the session automatically started after booting? at-spi version 1.18.1-0ubuntu1 nxclient_2.1.0-17_i386.deb nxnode_2.1.0-22_i386.deb nxserver_2.1.0-22_i386.deb I will attach the output of demsg, lspci vv and lspci vvn to this thread. [Bug 95105] Re: kernel.log syslog filling up with repeated ata2 and cdrom messages
Please ignore my previous message: it does not work as it should with kernel 2.6.20-16 either. In fact, it now takes 45 minutes to boot and sometimes, there are drive icons missing on the desktop. Thus I followed the suggestion of bug# 103410 and added the word 'irqpoll' to the bootoptions of the kernel. Now it boots in few minutes, but the syslog is filled again repeatedly with messages. [Bug 91973] Re: [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast()
Hello, Good job: the problem seems to be fixed, at least here on my computer. In fact, I downloaded the debian package provided by Jonh here above, installed it and did a killall -9 vino-server to make sure that the new version is running. (I had to remove vino-dbgsym in order not to have dependencies problems during the installation.) Now, I am able to connect with vnc to a gnome session that has been opened through nx; the picture in the vnc client is clear and I am also able to control the nxgnome session from within the vnc client window. (Of course, the nx-gnome session is the only gnome session running; as in the circumstances where the bug appeared before the fix.) Well done. :-) -- [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast() https://launchpad.net/bugs/91973 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 91973] Re: [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast()
Hello Jonh Wendell, Your steps are roughly the same, but here is exactly what I am doing (i hope not to forget anything): 1) login normally into gnome 2) enable the 2 upper checkboxes and disable the 2 lower checkboxes in the Remote Desktop Preferences 3) set ubuntu to automatically login into your account in gnome Steps 1,2 and 3 are to have a setup that is the same as on my machine. Now we come to the steps to reproduce the bug: 4) go to your home folder, open the .dmrc file and replace the word gnome with xfce in the file (xubuntu-desktop is also installed on my machine; I don't know if it matters) 5) restart your ubuntu machine (due to the change in the .dmrc file, it should not anymore automatically login into gnome) 6) login from windows with nx into gnome (i do it from macOSX) using the same user as under 3); that is how I do it; I have not tried with a different user 7) try to login with vnc; here is where the problem occurs Remarks: Sometimes I get a connection refused, so I wait a bit (several seconds to several dozens of seconds) and try again, several times if necessary; if it still does not connect, logout with nx and login again with nx; then try again to connect with vnc. (Often it does not require several tries for the problem to appear.) -- [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast() https://launchpad.net/bugs/91973 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: When I use kernel 2.6.20-12, the syslog, messages and kernel.log files receive repeatedly and continually messages and the error that you can see in the snippet file called error_snippet.txt, that I have attached to this report. [Bug 91973] Re: [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast()
Here are the outputs of valgrind with vino-dbgsym installed. Like previously, launched valgrind in two ways: 1. When I launch valgrind in a terminal in the forwarded nx gnome session, I don't get the desktop through vnc, but it tells me that the connection has been closed by peer. 2. When I launch valgrind in a terminal that I connect through ssh to ubuntu, the already opened gnome nx session gets also forwarded through vnc. But the vnc image has lines as in my screenshot above and is frozen. (The forwarded pointer only moved once.) Then, the vnc window closes with a lost connection error and when I try to reconnect, I get a connection closed by peer error. ** Attachment added: valgrind with vino-dbgsym in nx connection http://librarian.launchpad.net/6916154/valgrind_vino-dbgsym_nx.txt -- [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast() https://launchpad.net/bugs/91973 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 91973] Re: [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast()
Hello, As you know, the problem occurred while the remote headless computer was set to automatically login into an xfce session. When I tried to connect with vnc to what I thought was a gnome session, it did not connect, unless a nx gnome session was also running, in which case the image in the vnc client was not clear. Somehow I managed to make the remote headless computer automatically login into a gnome session and the problem does not occur anymore. Unfortunately I don't know how I can make the remote headless computer automatically login into the xfce session. I tried forwarding gdmsetup by ssh -Y, but the changes that I make in the forwarded Login Window, particularly the Default Session popup, seem not to be effective when it automatically logs in. Could you please tell me how I can make it automatically boot into an xfce session, so that I can try to reproduce the problem and give you the output you asked for. francesco -- [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast() https://launchpad.net/bugs/91973 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 91973] Re: [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast()
I replaced gnome with xfce in the .dmrc file in my home folder. Gnome did not start automatically; xfce did not start either (but I am not sure, because the system is headless. I tried what you said in 2 manners: 1. Opened gnome session with nx and connected also remotely with ssh, through which I started valgrind. Then I tried to connected with vnc and got the image of the gnome nx session. However, the image was a bit screwed up and it was frozen; it did not respond to movements and clicks of the mouse. You can find the output in the valgrind_ssh_output.txt file. 2. I launched valgrind in a terminal that resided in the nx gnome session. Then I tried to open the vnc session. When valgrind was running, I did not get the image of the gnome nx session through vnc; but when valgrind was not running, the image of the gnome nx session was forwarded through vnc; like previously, the image was not clear and vnc was frozen. You can find the output of valgrind in the valgrind_nx_output.txt file. ** Attachment added: valgrind_nx_output http://librarian.launchpad.net/6899764/valgrind_nx_output.txt -- [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast() https://launchpad.net/bugs/91973 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 91973] Re: [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_class_cast()
I think this bug report can be closed depending on vinos functionality: Here is probably what happened: - Somehow I set it to boot automatically into xfce instead of gnome (as the computer is headless, it took me a while to figure it out) - Consequently, vnc did only connect to a gnome session if I opened one remotely through nx (otherwise there was no gnome session running, which one could connect to); thus -- if vino is meant to only connect to the gnome session that has been opened localy, the bug can be closed unless one wants to refine it, so that it does not try to forward other sessions -- if vino should also forward gnome sessions that have been opened from a remote computer, there is a bug in vino because it is under this situation that the problems arise, I have in the meantime managed to make the headless computer again automatically open a gnome session when it is started, and under this situation vino behaves properly. @John Wendell Your remark made me test the following: When I try to connect to the remote vnc server, I get a connection refused error, unless there is a connection established with nx. Further, on the vnc screen, I have the same as on the nx screen, which makes me wonder whether the remote computer has automatically logged in into a gnome session!? [Bug 90699] AutoClick disturbs strokes feature
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kmousetool Hello, I am trying kmousetool 4:3.5.6-ubuntu1 on Ubuntu Feisty (not Kubuntu, but this should make no difference here). If I understand correctly how it works, when strokes are enabled, the user has to stop the mouse before starting a stroke gesture. Consequently, it is impossible to do a right-click on a link in the browser, because by stopping on the link, a left click is done before the user can do the right click, which triggers the loading of the page indicated by the link. As it is also possible to define left clicks through strokes, it might be a good idea to add the option of disabling the automatic left click when strokes are enabled. This way, if the user wants it, he can do the various clicks only by strokes, which would enable him to do right clicks that are not preceded by a left click. [Bug 64350] Re: Segfault on startup
Hello, I also had a seg fault on startup; I don't know whether it is the same, but here is a workaround for my problem that I got from the developer: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=278364 @henrik I still get the seg fault when I use the default layout. [Bug 59690] Re: Static IP configuration doesn't adds the default route to the gateway
I have the same problem with knot 3 of edgy i386: it does not save the gateway address when using the Networking pane. Workaround that seems to work for me: Close the Networking pane and don't open it anymore. Then add the following line to the corresponding interface in the file /etc/network/interfaces [code] gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [/code] Of course, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has to be the address of the gateway. -- Static IP configuration doesn't adds the default route to the gateway https://launchpad.net/bugs/59690 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
