[Bug 1203426] Re: 14e4:4727 wifi looses connectivity

2013-07-27 Thread friendlyfrank
installed linux-image-3.9.0-030900rc8-generic as requested and had
problems and lost wifi alltogether, after some trial and test I removed
the image and went about reconnecting the wireless driver for the
broadcom and blacklisted B43 in blacklist.conf and the wifi now workd
but the on lamp for wifi power on doesn't light, Watched for several
days and wifi is not failing so its fixed if that helps good. If you
want me to do anything else please advise regards Frank

This doesn't look to me like a bug, but more like intended
functionality: NetworkManager will prefer wired connections when they
are made available. A workaround to this is to manually specify settings
for an interface in /etc/network/interfaces, which will let
 NetworkManager ignore the interface.

I'm marking this an Invalid since there is so little information to
suggest that it would be anything other than expected behavior. Please
reopen it if you can give us additional information, and don't hesitate
to submit bug reports in the future. To reopen the bug report you can
click on the current status, under the Status column, and change the
 Status back to New. Thanks!

Status: New = Invalid

If the wi-fi was restored on removal of the lan cable I might agree,
but even stopping and restarting network connections did not give me
normal wi-fi access. the lan dns could not find anything and the wi-fi
dns ignored.

Previous experience suggests that both dn stables should be available
even if first choice was the lan (using fredora)

Re: [Bug 254529] Re: unable to print to cups, testprint ok

Arnaud Blouin wrote:
Please, when you print a document, try to get the cupsys log:
this is a file where CUPSYS writes information about what it is doing. Almost
all printing problems can be diagnosed from the error log, so it is the first
place to look to start solving problems. To be useful, you must change the
 logging level:

1.Select System - Administration - Printing in the main menu of
your desktop. The printer setup tool system-config-printer will open. Select
Server Settings in the list on the left. Then check the check box Save
debugging information for troubleshooting and click Apply.
2. In /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, find the line LogLevel ...; change it to
 LogLevel debug; save.
3. 'sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart'
4. Try to print something.
5. Add /var/log/cups/error_log as an attachment to the bug report.

Set to incomplete until we have the wanted log.

 ** Changed in: cupsys (Ubuntu)
Status: New = Incomplete

Have resolved the problem by removing the printer from the server and
reinstalling it and using the webpage:631 reinstalled the driver.

had no problems since, so was a server (debian etch) issue not ubuntu
although the symptoms pointed to the latter

many thanks and apologies for not reporting the fix when done.

Regards Frank

[Bug 264586] [NEW] dns table overwritten by second server

2008-09-03 Thread friendlyfrank
Public bug reported:

Whilst using a wireless connection I plugged in a router on lan port and lost
internet access.
Investigation found that the wireless dns table pointed to the lan dns

removing the lan connection did not restore table

changing the entry for the wireless dns only partially fixed the problem

system reboot fixed the problem

Often use this to set routers using their web pages and is a nusance.

regards frank

using etch on an asus a3n laptop
