[Bug 1162263] [NEW] Plymouth shows text only when switching to NVIDIA proprietary drivers in Xubuntu 13.04
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu Raring Ringtail (development branch) Version: 13.04 beta Flavor: Xubuntu As stated in the title, switching to NVIDIA proprietary drivers in Xubuntu 13.04 will render Plymouth in text mode only. I have experienced this problem since 12.10 and as reported by other users in several forums this affects AMD drivers as well. Using the default Nouveau Drivers produces no problems, Plymouth graphical splash displays correctly. There are reported work arounds and suggested solutions but none have worked for me so far. I was hoping this bug would be fixed in 13.04 but still here it is. ** Affects: plymouth (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1162263 Title: Plymouth shows text only when switching to NVIDIA proprietary drivers in Xubuntu 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/1162263/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yup it's the same sequence and apparently the devices are recognized as they should be but network-manager and Mobile Partner don't . And before anyone says that the USB modem is broken, it works in Windows 7 including Mobile Partner for Windows. One interesting thing though: if you uninstall Mobile Partner, Network Manager will detect the USB modem properly a mobile internet device. But these two worked together with no problem before. [Bug 902599] Re: Ghostscript renders only a part of the attached PDF file when using a high resolution
Hi all, I can confirm/reproduce this bug using the attached sample file. Out of the Presse Boxes only the one at the bottom gets printed. However, I have a bigger problem. I'm currently printing pdf's of identification cards with lots of layers and objects plus transparencies generated by inkscape(0.48.2) which are at high resolution, some at 100dpi and some at 200dpi. They do not get printed at all, cups generates a /usr/lib/cups/filter/gstoraster failed error. Adobe Acrobat Reader hangs and Evince finishes but the print manger shows the error. Printing directly from Inkscape (SVG) also gets the same error. Printing was fine a few days ago but when the updates came all I get is the gstoraster failed error. Low resolution pdf's (text) prints fine though. The only work-around suggested is to convert the pdf's to ps or save directly to ps/eps. Saving to ps/eps works but have alignment issues on print-out . [Bug 418242] Re: Incorrect call to output plugins (with persistent error message) on copy
Python-uniconvertor is already installed by default in Xubuntu 11.04 so that work-around is not really useful. This bug is really annoying since I use Inkscape a lot for work . After the uniconvertor error happens mouse clicks are now useless, use keyboard shortcuts to save current work, open the file again and do the same thing over and over. That's how annoying it is. You could use inkscape via wine but its has its own quirks but at least usable. I agree with nick_s , killing the xfce4 -settings-helper process eliminates the error and is a better work- around. Right click on the process then choose terminate solves the re- spawning issue for me anyways. Since other known applications/programs reproduce the bug/error, I guess this a library issue, namely a python 2.7 issue. I never had this problem when the default python was still 2.6. On some error reporting systems and forums, people using inkscape 0.48.1 on MAC OS with python 2.7 are also having the more or less the same problem. Hopefully this gets fixed soon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418242 Title: Incorrect call to output plugins (with persistent error message) on copy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/418242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 576278] [NEW] Epson Stylus T10 gets detected and installed in Lucid but won't print
Public bug reported: System Info: MSI Wind 12 U230 AMD L335 Dual Core CPU AMD Radeon HD3200 Xubuntu 10.04 LTS 32 bit 4GB Memory Problem: The Epson Stylus T10 printer gets detected and is installed in lucid but when you print from applications like ooo,.org, inkscape, gnome photo printer, photoprint etc. it will not print. The print manager queue is showing activity but nothing gets printed. The printer just makes noises for a few seconds, blinks the indicator light and just sits there not printing at all. Am not really sure if its the cups-driver-gutenprint package having issues since I have a Samsung ML-1640 Laser Printer installed to my machine and it prints fine when it gets plugged in. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: epson printing stylus t10 -- Epson Stylus T10 gets detected and installed in Lucid but won't print https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 574046] Re: shares-admin doesn't see NFS and SMB installed
I was actually wondering where shares-admin went and after a few days of Googling I found your post. I actually though I was the only one having this problem. I think its an outstanding bug. This used to work out of the box before but it seems that development is not going to continue on the direction of shares-admin since the next update of XFCE 4.8 (hopefully this june according to the xfce website) especially thunar will have network shares built in. This might be the reason for excluding shares-admin from the system menu but still exists for transition purposes. Shared-folders will actually install the needed files and programs but because of the bug it will only allow you to create the workgroup name which will be written/saved to the SAMBA configuration file located in /etc/samba/samba.conf. Sharing actual folders does not seem to work. To share folders you have manually write and save the configuration to samba.conf. You can use and edit the CDROM example in that files to create your own read only configuration setting. For more configuration setting visit the official samba site at http://www.samba.org. Meanwhile to fill in the gap of actually browsing the network shares in thunar until 4.8, a combination of Gigolo and gvfs-fuse will do the trick. Access the shares via Gigolo and gvfs-fuse will open the share in thunar. Installation of gvs-fuse is required, after that a restart and then browse away. File operations depend on sharing permission settings via Samba. This is actually the next best thing to native file-share browsing as provided by gnome or kde. -- shares-admin doesn't see NFS and SMB installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 80531] Re: Microphone not working
I glad the solutions I suggested helped some of you. The libasound(ALSA) package has been updated and hopefully this has fixed existing problems for everyone. I certainly hope it didn't introduce more problems for anyone. Am not really sure what sound card a Dell Laptop uses but ALSA can only detect things that the Linux hardware detection process detects and register as available devices. From the looks of it Kmix doesn't detect the mic and says its an invalid input device. Perhaps you could ask the guys at ubuntu forums who have more or less the same hardware you use for suggestions. The last resort is to reinstall everything in other words do a clean install of ubuntu using the latest version. Anyways, Feisty Fawn is upon us an will be released soon. Please take time to test and report bugs to make ubuntu better. For those who like testing, see you in the Gutsy Gibbon Alpha. Cheers!!! [Bug 80531] Re: Microphone not working
Since I can't edit my old post here is an update with a few changes and references. You may also go here for thread discussion and possible updates as well on the ubuntu forums found here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2422276#post2422276. Method A: The ALSA update sets the mic input to mic number 2 so you have to return it to number 1 for default mic. Using GNOME/XFCE GUI may have no effect. You have to use the alsa mixer on by typing alsamixer on the terminal. Use the left and right arrow keys to navigate the column setting. Press left until you reach Mic Sele and you will see that it is set to Mic2 use up/down arrow keys to toggle the setting to Mic1. Mute Mic Column by pressing down all the way to the bottom. Go to Capture tab by pressing tab until you get there. Then go to Mic column again and press spacebar the word CAPTUR and L R appears on the column. Bring volume up by pressing up arrow(doesn't really work but another guide said to do this, taken form a Gentoo post which i have not bookmarked and don't know here to look). The Capture column should have the same markings and bring the volume up as well. You may have to use sudo if regular user can't set anything. If this has no effect use Method B. This hasn't worked for me either but it worked for others. Here some more info by ComputerGuy56 found here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=382106 on a similar solution. Method B: Even if you use GNOME or XFCE and since their own sound control GUIs seems to have no effect including the alsamixer, install the kmix package. I know it sounds weird installing kmix and you're not even using KDE believe me strangely enough it works. After installation run kmix, it might not appear in the application menu so use terminal instead. Go to the input section locate mic and select mic 1. You should immediately hear sound input from your mic. Close kmix and you may uninstall it after this. For me and other users this actually did the trick. Method C: If all else fails you have to reset and cleanly reinstall ALSA and the Linux sound modules. You can even make without Method A and B and use this instead. Am not very sure about the result on this one but you could provide your experience on what happens. This method taken from the Comprehensive Sound Probelm Solutions Guide - Getting the ALSA drivers from a *fresh* kernel section found here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ensive+so und. Refer to the guide first before doing anything. Via the terminal run the following commands: 1) To remove the related packages and configuration files: sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils This will also uninstall gnome-desktop, xubuntu-desktop and GDM on Ubuntu/Xubuntu so just reinstall them as well. 2) Reinstall those same packages: sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils 3) Reinstall GDM and the desktop package: sudo apt-get install gdm ubuntu-desktop (ubuntu) Reinstall GDM and the desktop package: sudo apt-get install gdm xubuntu-desktop (xubuntu) Cheers!!! Sound is fine but recording/capture and the microphone is definitely not working. My Hardware is a Creative Vibra 128 on Xubuntu Feisty with the Mic Volume set on MAx and the 20dB Boost on. There are other bug complaints out there that confirm this please review them. [Bug 96268] Re: microphone doesn't work for recording (feisty)
I confirm this bug. Am using Xubuntu feisty and the microphone doesn't work. It produces no sound even with the boost on and level is set to max. Its been working before with no problems at all. Speaking and recording via the microphone produces silence. I use a Creative VIbra 128 card and shouldn't have problems at all. Cheers!!! [Bug 90324] gksu doesn't accept/rejects password, no choice but use sudo instead on feisty
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gksu Graphical programs on feisty that require to be run as root can not be made to run using the gksu interface because it rejects the valid passwords for some reason. [Bug 90324] Re: gksu doesn't accept/rejects password, no choice but use sudo instead on feisty
The passwords don't have any special characters in them. This is actually worse than the older bug (#14122) since gksu doesn't recognize regular character passwords. The older gksu didn't have this problem it seems to have been introduced but the newer gksu. I can't access synaptic, update-manager and other gui applications that has to be run as root unless sudo is used. I have experience this problem every now and then while using feisty and not Dapper. A simple solution usually solves this problem which is deleting the .cache in the home directory but now it doesn't work. After the older gksu has been replaced by the newer one its now a recurring problem with no apparent solution. Before this happened I did have a strange problem where I can't run mousepad as a regular user, I have to be root else it crashes. But until now and with the gksu issue the problems still remain. They might be related. -- gksu doesn't accept/rejects password, no choice but use sudo instead on feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/90324 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 86718] beryl manager causes 100% on load and renders the desktop useless after Feb 21 feisty updates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: beryl-manager After the latest updates(Feb. 21, 2007) of feisty fawn, beryl crashes. CPU bar reaches 100% beryl-manager loads. It freezes the xfce4-panel and xfdesktop rendering the desktop unusable. Mouse is working (can be moved around) but can't access options. It has to be uninstalled to make desktop usable again. Beryl was perfectly working before the update. Deleting configuration files and reinstalling has no effect. This may not be a beryl bug directly but might caused by another package. [Bug 81357] Epson Stylus C50 not printing correctly on Dapper, Edgy, Feisty
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cupsys-driver-gutenprint Since Dapper installing an Epson Stylus C50 is ok but when printing, the output is warped and stretched even with correct settings. Guten-print supposedly supports this particular printer and driver driver as stated in their website but apparently there is something wrong it. To print somewhat normally you have to use the C42 driver instead.
