[Bug 259334] Re: [needs-packaging] dolphin, a Nintendo Gamecube/wii Emulator
There has been a lot of progress in getting Dolphin working with GLSL shaders. In fact there is a branch of the git repository with this working. However, it is a lot slower than the Cg shaders. There have been some other recent developments that will also make it difficult to get Dolphin accepted into official repositories. [Bug 789580] [NEW] Switcher window borders are not properly unmapped with (unity|gtk)-window-decorator
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Steps to reproduce with default setup: 1. Log in. 2. Open a terminal from the menu, and move it away from the center of the screen where the switcher will appear. Make sure that it still has focus. 3. Hold down Alt-Tab to activate and show the switcher. 4. While the switcher is still visible move the mouse to a point right above the very bottom of the gray switcher window. Within a pixel or two of the bottom is sufficient. 5. Release Alt-Tab. 6. Click at the mouse position found in step 4. You will see that the desktop does not take focus, and the terminal window still has focus. If you run xwininfo you can click at that location and you will see information about a window that you can't see, and that is definitely not the background nautilus window. I have noticed that this happens with both the Static Application Switcher and the Application Switcher compiz plugins, however it does not happen with the other switcher plugins. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: compiz gtk-window-decorator unity-window-decorator -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/789580 Title: Switcher window borders are not properly unmapped with (unity|gtk )-window-decorator -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 709461] Re: Application windows can sometimes fail to display and will mask regions of the screen
Sam Spilsbury: Are you looking for a surefire way to reproduce the mouse dead zone? Because I can tell you exactly how to do it with the default settings for either the Ubuntu Classic or the default Ubuntu desktops. 1. Log in. If you run xwininfo you can click at that location and you will see information about a window that you can't see, and that is definitely not the background nautilus window. I have noticed that this happens with both the Static Application Switcher and the Application Switcher compiz plugins, however it does not happen with the other switcher plugins. Perhaps because those do not use override redirect windows? It happens regardless of if you are using the unity-window-decorator or the gtk-window-decorator. Interestingly, if you repackage emerald with the current code from the git repository (since the package from the natty repositories segfaults), it is unaffected by this mouse dead zone bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709461 Title: Application windows can sometimes fail to display and will mask regions of the screen -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 709461] Re: Application windows can sometimes fail to display and will mask regions of the screen
Oh, I forgot to point out that the only way that I have found to get rid of the dead zone after switching away from the Static Application Switcher and the Application Switcher plugins to another switcher is to restart compiz. The dead zone persists even if you switch back and forth between the gtk-window-decorator and unit-window-decorator until you do so. Another annoyance caused by this bug is when you use the viewport switcher plugin, and have viewport switching with the mouse wheel enabled. If, for example, you have firefox open to a website, and you try to use the mouse wheel to scroll up and down when it happens to be in this dead zone the viewport is switched.

[Bug 259334] Re: [needs-packaging] dolphin, a Nintendo Gamecube/wii Emulator
I hate to continue to put a damper on things, but unfortunately, as I understand it, in order to add such an exception we would have to change to GPLv3. [Bug 477541] [NEW] upon resume from suspend the wrong pulseaudeo source is selected
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pm-utils I have a usb webcam with mic attached to the computer. In gnome-volume- control I have the webcam's mic selected. Every time I suspend and resume the selection reverts to the internal audio source. I assume that is the sound card's mic jack, which has no mic connected. Also the webcam's mic is muted. So I then have to go into gnome-volume-control and reselect and un-mute the webcam's mic. Looking at the file /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/01PulseAudio and doing a little testing I have found that the problem has to do with the way that pulseaudio does it's indexing of the sources and how the pm-utils script accesses that information. Upon suspend 01PulseAudio is looking at the starred index (selected source). It then suspends and mutes this source. Then what happens sometime later in the suspend and resume process is that the indexes of the sources get changed by pulseaudio, but the selection stays with the original index. For example, one time before I suspended the webcam's mic had index 1. After resuming the webcam's mic was then indexed by 3, and the internal mic jack was now on index 1 and selected. So it may be that this bug should really be filed for the pulseaudio package instead of pm-utils. Either pulseaudio needs to be fixed to keep its indexes more constant or the pm-utils script needs to be adapted to find the indexing changes and resume to the correct source appropriately. I have been saying that all along (look back at my previous comments in bug # 273326). However, I seriously believe that a fix in the awn transitory artifact bug will mitigate the NVidia persistent artifact issue at least for these artifacts. I fail to see how a non-existent artifact can persist. I know that there are other artifacts that are also persistent with these NVidia drivers, but they do not occur as often, nor are they as annoying. These transitory artifacts are occurring on a computer with an Intel video card and a slower processor, and they are extremely annoying on that computer. Although they are not persistent they do take several seconds to disappear due to the slower processor. They are just plain ugly. If the fix for these transitory artifacts is understood, then why is it not incorporated into the latest bzr code? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 273326 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273326 I realize that the readme says that my card is supported by the 180 series drivers. However, it is not. I can assure you that the xserver will not load with these drivers and the GeForce FX 5200 card. In the detailed errors from the xserver the driver gives a response that says this card is now being moved into legacy support. You can even check the module aliases in the 180 series driver and you will see that in actuality this card is not supported by these drivers. If you want more evidence go to the Nvidia website and on the driver download page select Beta and Archived drivers, and then do a search for this card. You will see that the 180 series is not listed for that card. Although it does list some drivers from the 177 series, and in actuality those drivers do not support this video card either. Now, back to the real issue. As I pointed out in the bug report, it does not matter what video card you have. Avant Window Navigator HAS A BUG. No matter what video card or driver you use, when applets are to the right of the tray and the tray is resized, THERE ARE VISUAL GLITCHES. [Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards
Bryce: Look a little closer. The bug is marked as 'Fix Released' for Compiz, but not for xf86-video-intel. That is where the real bug is. That has finally been assigned at least. The compiz fixes were merely workarounds. It seems pretty said to me that a bug would be closed while even some part of it is marked confirmed and not fixed. If that is the case this bug tracker concept has failed and launchpad needs to rethink how it is set up. Perhaps the title is a bit vague, and seemingly indicative of a variety of problems, but that is why there is a more detailed response. Also that is the point of allowing others to comment on the bug, and how it seems to affect them also. -- Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 273326 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273326 Mark, the bug I am referring to I have seen on four different computers all with different video cards. Nvidia, Intel, and another. They all have this exact same artifact occuring at the same places with the exact same set up of awn. The point is that I am certain this is the same bug that is causing the artifacts that have started being persistent with the 173 series Nvidia drivers. The reason I am certain is that the artifacts happen at exactly the same places in the same situations on all computers, the only difference is that those artifacts persist on the computer with the nvidia card. -- Shiny Switcher applet, drawing problem during animation and virtual desktop/workspace change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu (via bug 273326). -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 273326] Re: artifacts in Intrepid + nvidia binary drivers
Do those of you who claim the bug is gone with the new 180.06 drivers still see the white boxes, lines, or general artifacts when the tray is resized? Those were there in Hardy, they are still there with any type of video card (Intel, Nvidia, and probably others), and I bet you are still seeing them with the newer drivers too. They probably disappear quickly for you just like they did with the Nvidia drivers in Hardy. This is a bug in awn, and this is the same bug that is causing these artifacts with the 173 and 177 Nvidia drivers. Some additional bug in these drivers is making those artifacts hang around instead of disappearing. It seems to me that the issue is with both the 173 and 177 Nvidia drivers, and Awn. Those of us who can't use the 180.06 drivers will need to see fixes in these drivers. I have a GeForce FX 5200, which is being moved into legacy support, and hence does not work with the 177 or 180 drivers. Who knows what is going on with Awn. [Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards
I find it a tad annoying that although this bug is widely confirmed the importance is still marked as undecided and it has not been assigned to anyone to repair. I am referring to the bug in the intel drivers, which is still marked as confirmed but not fixed. A workaround was been implemented in compiz, and then this was forgotten. Seems to be the theme with Intrepid. Display issues abound. [Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards
jerrylamos, why do you keep insisting that this is a compiz issue when all evidence points to the intel driver. It is silly to start dropping words like codepath that you don't understand to argue your point. It is not that compiz uses codepaths that don't work, it is that compiz uses driver paths that are not working properly. The driver paths are the problem. It is the responsibility of the driver to make the paths to the hardware properly available. The fact that these paths are not working is a problem in the driver not compiz. There are other software applications that use these paths, although not very many at this point. For example the Avant Window Navigator developers are undergoing a rewrite to see if they can start using them. These paths make it possible to achieve accelerated graphics without the overhead of cpu use by accessing the video cards hardware directly. Now enough with the talk about compiz being at fault. -- Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The 180.06 drivers may solve the problem if your video card is supported by those drivers. I have a GeForce FX 5200 which is apparently going into legacy now. It is still supported by the 173 drivers but nothing newer. Frank, your solution is not very practical. One of the primary reasons that I use avant is for the applets. If I just wanted launchers and a task manager I would probably switch to cairo dock. It is much smoother in appearance. Awn has had these artifacts for a long time with any video card. [Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG and i845 video cards
I think this bug is due to the intel driver or xserver in Intrepid. I built and ran the latest git version of compiz in Hardy on my computer with an Intel 82845G/GL onboard video card. It worked fine with the drivers and xserver in Hardy. That version of compiz built in Intrepid freezes gnome in Intrepid. I can confirm this error. The problem is that in the Ubuntu debian source for this package there is an error in the debian/rules file. Perhaps it would be appropriate to make a dev file with these? I am not sure. Including those files may not be in accordance with the philosophy of the packagers. It should also be noted that the tex files that are already included in the texpower-example package are source files just as much as the files I mentioned before.
