Thank you for your bug report, do you use unity-2d or 3d?

When I filed the bug I was testing unity-3d. However, I have just checked
unity-2d, and the same buggy behaviour is present there too.

 Is that issue new?

I'm afraid I have no idea as I have not been using unity until now.

Does it happen with any application?

I've not done an exhaustive search but the correct behaviour (i.e file menu
opening on pressing alt + f) occurs in a nautilus window, firefox,
gnome-terminal and libreoffice writer.

If there is any other information I can supply please let me know.

[Bug 988028] [NEW] Desktop menubar does not respond to alt + f

2012-04-24 Thread gnudoc
Public bug reported:

Clean up to date install of ubuntu precise beta 2, with the latest
unity-team ppa packages. Checkbox unity test stipulates that the
following behaviour is expected:

1. Click on the desktop
2. Press Alt + F (or any accelerator corresponding to the File item in your
language)
   - Desktop menubar appears, first menubar item is selected and its menu
appears

Actual behaviour:

1. Click on the desktop
2. Press Alt + F
  - pressing alt + f has no effect at all.

Pressing alt + f10 does have the expected result of opening the first
menu. Also, pressing alt + f10 in firefox causes the menubar to open at
the first menu too.

[Bug 689340] [NEW] byobu's default 'web' window fails to open

2010-12-12 Thread gnudoc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: byobu

(Found in uptodate natty, byobu version 3.16-0ubuntu1)

Byobu's config menu lets the user configure 'windows' to open by
default. Any number of these can be added manually to the
~/.byobu/windows, but the menu defaults to providing four handy choices
for the user who hasn't yet read the manpage. One of these fails to
open.

Steps to reproduce:
~$ byobu
F9
Manage default windows
Select all four default options (notify-osd, top, web, shell)
Hit Apply, then Exit
Close byobu and then re-open byobu

What should happen:
Four 'windows', labelled '0$ notify-osd', '1$ top', '2$ web' and '3$ shell'
should appear

What does happen:
Three 'windows' labelled '0$ notify-osd', '1$ top', '3$ shell' appear. '2$ web'
seems to have been opened and closed again immediately.

Cause:
When we look at ~/.byobu/windows, we see that the web line is screen -t web
w3m. Pasting this onto the command line gives us an immediate [screen is
terminating]. Doing w3m on its own, we get a standard usage message.

Fix:
The w3m line in ~/.byobu/windows needs a url. Appending any valid url e.g.
screen -t web w3m https://launchpad.net causes byobu to work as expected.
I'm afraid I don't know how to do a proper patch for this.

[Bug 551133] Re: Rhythmbox crashes on selecting a song or album to buy in ubuntu one music store

2010-03-31 Thread gnudoc
Hmm.

flashplugin-installer actually shows as a hard dependency of
flashplugin-nonfree on my system (aptitude show flashplugin-nonfree), so
installer was installed automatically.

Anyway, I uninstalled them both and this made U1MS work (having first
checked that it was still crashing after today's round of upgrades). For
completeness' sake, I then closed rhythmbox, reinstalled flashplugin-
nonfree (which pulled in flashplugin-installer automatically), and
opened rhythmbox again to prove that it had stopped working. Curiously,
however, *it now works*, and has just finished pulling an album into my
U1 storage!

So to repeat, a (slightly nasty) workaround for anyone playing at home
whose rhythmbox crashes when an album or song is chosen in U1MS:

*Close rhythmbox from the panel icon if it's open
*Uninstall flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer
*Check if rhythmbox is now working as expected, then close it again
*Reinstall flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer
*Hopefully rhythmbox continues to work as expected.

I have no idea why this should work. Particularly since I didn't purge
them, just removed - so no flash config files should have gotten
changed. Also, no dependent or other packages got removed, upgraded or
changed in any way.

Ho hum.

[Bug 551133] [NEW] Rhythmbox crashes on selecting a song or album to buy in ubuntu one music store

2010-03-29 Thread gnudoc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store

64bit Lucid beta, up-to-date as of 29/03/10.
rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store version 0.0.5-0ubuntu2

Rhythmbox runs as expected, as long as the U1MS is not opened. The U1 music
store loads as expected. Search queries can be entered, and results show as
expected.
However, clicking on any song's (or album's) title or icon causes rhythmbox to
immediately crash without warning, and without any notice from apport.

I've attached the messages produced by a brief rhythmbox instance that I
started from the command line.

Thanks.

2010-03-11 Thread gnudoc
Sorry, I forgot all about this bug.

I switched to mainline kernels at the 9.04 release candidate stage. As
soon as I did so, I stopped seeing this bug. When I switched back to
ubuntu kernels in June 2009 (sorry, can't remember which kernel version,
but it was whatever was current at the time), I couldn't reproduce the
bug there either.

I guess I should tag this fix released?

Thanks gnudoc.

So it's safe to assume you haven't had any suspend/resume or hibernate
issues? Some hooks were added to apport to try to automatically detect
suspend/resume issues and it's likely incorrectly detecting an error and
filing a false bug report. Thanks.

[Bug 260165] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with signal 5 in xkl_process_error() (on trying to activate desktop-effects)

2008-08-22 Thread gnudoc
Additional info:
The dialog in question is gnome-appearance-properties. when run from the
terminal the output is as attached (stdout). I would imagine that the
interesting part is:

There is no available graphics driver for your system which supports the
composite extension, or the current one already supports it.
Checking for Xgl: not present.
No whitelisted driver found
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

although, as I say, nvidia's closed driver (v 173.14.12-0ubuntu5) and
the relevant kernel module are installed.

any suggestions?
