I believe this is still a problem for Digikam, and with video because so
integral to photo apps, it's really demoting the value of Digikam. Any
hope for a fix still? Thanks, Joe

[Bug 550064] Re: upgrade to lucid froze at 'gssd stop/pre-start'

2010-05-01 Thread jetpeach
this failure also occurred for me, and i'm guessing it's caused by but 147520,
but i'm not sure. for anyone trying to work around, after when i killed the
upgrade, i then had to kill the stuck process that had the package lock taken
(used "ps -aux" to find something that i thought had the lock, which i guessed
right, it was listed as process "/usr/bin/dpkg --force-overwrite --status-fd 24
--conf "). i was then able to restart the distribution upgrade without the
package lock error. but it immediately stuck again after saying in the
terminal.
This time, in the terminal I hit "control-C" to kill it, but only the window
closed and packages continued to be set up. it seems to have successfully
finished setting up the distribution upgrade now, hope this can help anyone
else who might see the problem (all 3 of my other ubuntu computers upgraded
fine, so program or something specific to this computer must have caused it.)

[Bug 331779] [NEW] phonon-backend-xine 4.4.3.0 conflicts with kde-icons-oxygen 4.4.1.4

2009-02-19 Thread jetpeach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phonon

I have 3 different Kubuntu Intrepid computers and none will upgrade the
package "phonon-backend-xine" from 4.4.1.4 to 4.4.3.0. In aptitude, the
conflict is with kde-icons-oxygen, which I have version 4.4.1.4 of and
it seems phonon-backend conflicts with anything "<4.4.1.73" as it
replaces this.

But if I attempt to remove kde-icons-oxygen, kdebase-runtime depends on
it, and 665 packages depend on kdebase-runtime, including many core
components. So it seems something is wrong with the conflicting
requirements, any solutions is appreciated.

[Bug 48261] Re: clicking "open with Openoffice.org Spreadsheet" opens OO splash screen but does nothing when browsing thru Fish

2008-11-02 Thread jetpeach
I just updated to Intrepid, and this is still a problem: happens using
Dolphin and Konqueror when trying over the sftp (or fish, i think
they're actually the same) and also with smb:// protocol. The steps to
reproduce are still the same, except it's no longer necessary to even
click "open with openoffice" as this option isn't given. Instead, it
just must try to open but nothing happens after the dialog is shown.

Perhaps this should be filed under KIOSLAVES or something like that? I
will provide diagnostic info when possible if I can be directly what
might be useful for devs to solve the problem.

I have this problem as well: attached is the output on the console when
I ran kopete. it doesn't crash or spit out much output till i went to
Configure then all the output and the window freezes, have to terminate.

i don't have a webcam. I tried deleted the kopeterc and kopete directory
in the ~/.kde/share/apps to see if it was a config problem due to
upgrading, still happens for me though.

I have default upgrade to 8.10 with ATI fglrx drivers. I do have a TV-

[Bug 256207] Re: some file associations cannot configured/removed, prevents grouping of file association patterns

2008-09-23 Thread jetpeach
"Is there any reason why you would want to do this?"
For example, if I want to use a certain player to play video files (and most
everyone probably wants to use the same player for all video types avi, mpeg
etc etc). But to change the default player, the user must go to each video type
and configure the default separately. The same is true for music types (mp3,
ogg, etc). Groups of files types allow easier and quicker configuration and are
more intuitive to the user...

"but you are the very first person who even thought about grouping."
Grouping is allowed/enabled right now so somebody coded it in, but it just
doesn't function for those file types that can't be removed because even after
the file type is added to a group, the non-removable one overrides the one in
the group.

I guess if certain mimetypes must be present, there is not necessarily
an easy solution to this (as I thought there might be.) I guess the
easiest thing that would help is if user configured settings/groups
overroad those that cannot be removed, instead of vice versa. But even
then users could find confusion, when changing a setting for a file type
didn't successfully change the actual program opening it...although this
problem is present as long as duplicate file associations are allowed
(which they are right now...).

[Bug 256207] [NEW] some file associations cannot configured/removed, prevents grouping of file association patterns

2008-08-08 Thread jetpeach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-kde4

issue: some known file types (*.wmv) cannot be removed. this prevents
these from being grouped with other known types (*.avi, *.mpg, and *.wmv
thus cannot be changed together, since *.wmv cannot be removed and it's
configuration overrides the config added to other association types)

steps to reproduce: in KDE4 systemssettings, advanced tab, click file
associations. under the known file types, click "video" then "x-ms-wmv".
the remove icon is grayed out. click the one above this "x-ms-wv" and
now the remove icon is visible and this file association can be removed.

solution: all file association types should be removable/configurable.
if they cannot be (for some technical reason i don't know about), an
explanation should be given somewhere where it is visible in the
configuration region.

[Bug 220575] Re: checking radio buttons or checkboxes doesn't work correctly

2008-06-12 Thread jetpeach
bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/194624 is
a dup of this, but has much good information and a fix- here is the
process (for KDE3):

install the package gtk2-engines-qtcurve
go to to system settings, Appearance/GTK Styles and Fonts, then select "use
another style" and choose Qtcurve.

before the fix worked, i had to restart KDE and firefox

Miklós Juhász who helped with the fix in the other bug had a bit more info on
the fix, i'll copy and pasted below for simplicity
"
This eliminates the firefox rendering bug and many other issues like sliders
are chopped off at the bottom, etc.

As far as I understand the problem is that Hardy uses QtCurve as the
default KDE theme. However Hardy does not use QtCurve's Gtk2 engine,
preferring to style Gtk2 apps via the Qt engine. QtCurve doesn't look
that great when done this way - certainly nowhere near as good as its
native Gtk2 port.

For more information, see this thread on Kubuntu-devel list:

[Bug 153843] Re: always downloads even if packages are on cdrom

2007-10-19 Thread jetpeach
Many people experience this on the forums and are frustrated by it as well.
Along similar lines although perhaps should be filed as another bug, people are
wondering how to upgrade without connecting over the network at all.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=581597
Even though people hit "do not connect" on the dialog asking if the newest
updates should be downloaded, the upgrade tool still surprises them by
connecting and fetching updates from the repositories...
This bug would need to be fixed first before the issue of upgrading without
network could even be considered though.

[Bug 154025] kubuntu cdrom upgrade doesn't just work

2007-10-18 Thread jetpeach
Public bug reported:

On Kubuntu 7.04 version, insert the 7.10 alternate CD-Rom.

The CD rom asks you what you'd like to do, but no option to upgrade, so
immediately a new user doesn't know how to upgrade.

The more experienced user has it mount the CD and goes to the /cdrom/
directory and sees "cdromupgrade" file. He/she tries to run "sudo
./cdromupgrade" but receives the error "Unable to execute
./cdromupgrade: Permission denied". The experienced user is confused,
because the file has +x permissions. The experienced user is also unable
to upgrade using the CD rom.

The yet more experienced user edits the cdromupgrade file (to fix
directory paths) after copying it to his/her computer. Above excecution,
a distribution dialog upgate dialog appears listing steps of the upgrade
process (preparing the upgrade, modifying the software channels etc),
however during the preparing the upgrade stage an error appears, "the
system was unable to get the prerequisites for the upgrade. the upgrade
will abort now and restore the original system state. please report this
as a bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport". this may simply be because the
paths in editing the script still were not correct, or it could be
another problem. I did not file this under update-manager, however,
because it says that is for GNOME. i'm talking about KDE here.

the bottom line: upgrading using CD rom in Kubuntu is quite difficult, and
needs to be fixed. i will probably have to upgrade my 4 kubuntu computers over
the network, unnecessarily using approximately 4GB of bandwidth...

[Bug 67636] Re: Edgy crashes while booting if TV out connected

2006-11-05 Thread jetpeach
My problem turned out to be with the nvidia drivers in Edgy, when I
upgraded to the beta nvidia drivers it works now.

As for the reported of this bug, I think the file located at
/var/log/Xorg.0.log probably contains the most relevant info perhaps.
Also, there are a number of bugs out there already about the usplash
with edgy, so this could be a duplicate of those (although it affects
you differently).

I have this same problem. Using a geforce 3 ti200. I don't have a
normal monitor hooked up because it's my media pc. Did you ever find a
way to fix this?

[Bug 16465] Re: Firefox eats up all the CPU with certain pages

2006-09-19 Thread jetpeach
CPU usage for me on the above page also shoots to above 65%, when the
tab is closed it drops to 5%. I attached

Open the same page in Konqueror, it's usage stays <10% and the scrolling
part of the page still renders properly.

Also, I tested this with my Edgy Eft running Bon Echo beta2 (Firefox2),
to see if it is fixed in that version. It was not.

Somebody should possibly see if this also happens on windows? And if it
happens in the next Gecko tree after 1.8.1? what is it, 1.9 for Firefox
3?
