[Bug 1455785] [NEW] Display locks up - [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle
Public bug reported: Similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1402331, probalby same problem here. Christopher M. Penalver asked me to register a new report. Unfortunately rebooted the system just before I saw Christopher's request. Hope the log files etc. are useful. - I've been running Kubuntu 14.04.2 LTS for about a year with no problems. Problem started about 3 months ago or so, not entirely sure about the period. - The screen usually locks up when using Firefox, today it happen when I switched windows from Firefox to Konsole (the GUI app). The screen locked half way switching the window borders from blue to grey. (Could it be the screen candy thingy that also does the wobbly windows, what's the name again?). The konsole window border on my right monitor is was grey, is now locked faint blue and should have turned to full blue. The Firefox window on the left monitor was full blue, is now slightly going to grey and locked right there and then. - I don't use a Dell computer, but some Intel mother board based system (DG43GT with a Q9550). - When the system is locked, which happens every two or three weeks, I can sometimes change to text console but not always. Currently I cannot access console, but I can log in to the box through SSH. - Screen blanking (power save) doesn't work when the screen locked. Linux diablo 3.13.0-49-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 10 20:11:33 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux When my box locks up, I usually run full patching before power cycle, some messages in log files may be caused by that. I attached log files and I believe in the past I have some debug headers installed on my system which seems to list somewhat useful information. [Bug 1337886] [NEW] xset -q intermittently reports wrong DPMS stats
Public bug reported: ### ### What I do ### I have a simple script running in the background that every second checks the output of `xset -q` for the current monitor state. However, every couple days the output is erratic. The script runs as a regular unprivileged user. I am not sure if the error occures when the monitor is blanked or active. To work around the problem I am restarting the xset command in the script until it comes back with proper output, yet unsure if that solves the problem though. ### ### What I expect (only showing last couple lines since the others are fine): ### DPMS (Energy Star): Standby: 300Suspend: 450Off: 600 DPMS is Enabled Monitor is On ### ### What I actually get ### The problem is INTERMITTENT and I do not have a good method to reproduce it, apart from waiting/retrying ... [Bug 1235499] [NEW] sound in youtube flash video stopped working in firefox
Public bug reported: Sound in Youtube videos in Firefox no longer play, it is completely silent. I checked Rekonq too, but I don't know if it was working before. It was working with Firefox 23 until today after I ran all available patches and Firefox 24 was installed. I did roll back to Firefox 20, but that didn't solve the issue. I was checking the video on this page: http://www.eevblog.com/2013/09/28/eevblog-528-opamp-input-noise-voltage- tutorial/ Yesterday it worked, today (after patching) it doesn't. Other system sounds work as expected. On https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ I noticed that my Flash player is not up to date: Outdated Plugins Plugin Status Action Shockwave FlashShockwave Flash 11.2 r202vulnerable Update Now I did not download there because it doesn't provide a .deb package. I tried running /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader from the command line hoping to update flash, but nothing seems to happen. [Bug 742751] [NEW] writeable automounted partition with device file mode 0000
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase I configured udev in such a way, that one particular external USB drive I own attaches to the system without read/write permissions. $ ls -ltr /dev/sdj* /dev/mydisk-* brw-rw 1 jhendrix vboxusers 8, 144 2011-03-25 20:44 /dev/sdj lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2011-03-25 20:44 /dev/mydisk-prestigio -> sdj b- 1 root root 8, 146 2011-03-25 20:44 /dev/sdj2 b- 1 root root 8, 145 2011-03-25 20:44 /dev/sdj1 The interesting thing is that Kubuntu 10.10 automatically opens both partitions sdj1 and sdj2 in Dolphin as writeable filesystems eventhough the device files have mode 0. This is not what I expect / want, because the whole drive is owned by an unprivileged user. In turn this behaviour causes a problem as I attach "/dev/mydisk-prestigio" to a VirtualBox virtual machine, and this VM will create partitions and filesystems on this disk. The problem that arises is that the VM has full ownership of the whole disk, including its partitions and at the same time the host's desktop user has r/w access to its partitions. To the best of my knowledge, udev does not support "not-creating sd* devicefiles for the disk and its partitions" or renaming them. I tried changing "NAME" in the udev rules, but udev doesn't like that: "udevd- work[20051]: kernel-provided name 'sdj' and NAME= 'mydisk-prestigio' disagree, please use SYMLINK+= or change the kernel to provide the proper name" Please refer to my website for further details on what I did: http://wirespeed.xs4all.nl/mediawiki/index.php/Figuring_out_udev_rules#Assigning_a_raw_disk_to_a_specific_user Kubuntu 10.10 x86_64 Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 Platform Version 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1) udev Installed: 162-2.2 ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: automount kde udev -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742751 Title: writeable automounted partition with device file mode -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

Probably still early, I know, but after 34hrs I am still in a stable kde desktop with a load of effects enabled :o) Before it took maybe 15 to 30 minutes to hang. I only installed the released fixes, deleted the my manually edited xorg.conf and rebooted ... No tests with prereleased kernels, test patches other drivers ... Hope this helps. Thanks guys!! My desktop froze with UXA in little over an hour. I am reverting to NoAccel, currently the only option I know to get my system stable. I guess I found a Thunderbird bug or so, second time I notice I'm sending out an empty message, luckily it does appear in my sent items ;o) Sorry for the confusion. Forgot to mention that, when Effects are enabled, the system starts with really smooth effects and after a little while those effects start to jump and hickup.
