So, I have also tried to get into a shell, but to no avail.
Ctrl+Alt+F1 only brings up an empty screen with a cursor in the top

I have figured out that pressing escape during this loop brings up a
screen with the message:
(process:386):GLIB_WARNING**:getpwuid_r():failed due to unknown user
id (0):

So, it appears that it cannot figure out a root user.

What else can I try?

That gave us a bit more information. See below.

The sector and block number changed as the loop progressed.

I also tried with the 32 bit version and had the same issue.

I tried out a couple of sanity checks. I tried a virtual installation
on another machine with the 64 bit CD, and this booted just fine.

Also, I tried a windows 7 installation CD and it booted just fine.

sr0 identify the cdrom, then there are errors on the disk or incompatibility
between the cdreader and the cdrom.
I suggest to burn another time the verified images at low speed or if
possible create a usb live using startup disk creator (if you have another pc

[Bug 652875] [NEW] Live CD Does not Boot into Ubuntu Maverick (64bit)

2010-10-01 Thread joseph.ruskiewicz
Public bug reported:

Howdy All!
Ubuntu Maverick (64bit) Beta and Release candidate cannot boot into the live
desktop on my standard (i7, nvidia) computer. It will start up with the Ubuntu
splash screen and the little dots below the ubuntu logo are active. My hard
disk is also quit active. However, this will go on indefinitely, or at least
until I power down my machine.

This is in contrast to Alph1 through Alpha3 as they all booted on my
machine without problems.

Thanks.
