Fabio: So, I have also tried to get into a shell, but to no avail. Ctrl+Alt+F1 only brings up an empty screen with a cursor in the top left corner. I have figured out that pressing escape during this loop brings up a screen with the message: (process:386):GLIB_WARNING**:getpwuid_r():failed due to unknown user id (0): So, it appears that it cannot figure out a root user. What else can I try? Fabio: That gave us a bit more information. See below. The sector and block number changed as the loop progressed. I also tried with the 32 bit version and had the same issue. I tried out a couple of sanity checks. I tried a virtual installation on another machine with the 64 bit CD, and this booted just fine. Also, I tried a windows 7 installation CD and it booted just fine. Fabio: I have burn and verified another image at low speed and it is still the same issue. I am not sure what is going on. Alpha 3 worked just fine, and still does. I'll try a USB live startup later this weekend (have to grab it from home!). Public bug reported: Howdy All! Ubuntu Maverick (64bit) Beta and Release candidate cannot boot into the live desktop on my standard (i7, nvidia) computer. It will start up with the Ubuntu splash screen and the little dots below the ubuntu logo are active. My hard disk is also quit active. However, this will go on indefinitely, or at least until I power down my machine. This is in contrast to Alph1 through Alpha3 as they all booted on my machine without problems. Michael: I have started up synaptic package manager and it was able to figure out it had to uninstall nvidia-glx before performing the upgrade. [Bug 61637] Upstart hangs when disk needs fsck
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: upstart After the *fresh* install of Edgy 3, I rebooted into the system. After making a few changes (xorg, etc...) I then rebooted. As my disk has not been check the last 30 times, the disk booter performed (* or wanted to *) an fsck on the disk. However, no prompt, no status indicator, etc. was displayed. And upstart just hang there. Even in single user mode.
