[Bug 1088015] [NEW] 'Thermal shutdown' warning at bootup
Public bug reported: When I start my hp envy 17 2100ed I see a bios message saying that the computer was shut down due to overheating. There was no actual overheating though. I think it has something to do with the temperature of the discrete gpu being measured wrong. On startup both integrated graphics and the discrete gpu is on. I turn the discrete gpu off with vgaswitcheroo to prevent overheating. I notice the following: when the gpu is still on, Psensor says its temperature is 60 or 70 deg C or so (and increasing). When I turn it off , it reports the temperature is 510 deg C . (= T max). Output of 'sensors' see below... [Bug 1085994] [NEW] compiz-cms black screen
Public bug reported: I tried the new compiz-cms plugin for color management by Gabriel Ebner on ubuntu 12.10, both regular ubuntu and 'kubuntu' version. I installed both systems in virtualbox starting from the live cd iso. (I still have 12.04 on my laptop). Then installed the plugin from ppa:gebner/compiz- cms. On regular ubuntu 12.10 it seems to work fine. On kubuntu 12.10 I first installed compiz, the plugin and ccsm. I did compiz --replace from within kde. Compiz starts fine (though the decorations are turned of in ccsm per default, not handy). But when I activate the compiz-csm plugin, the screen turns black. I do still see a cursor, changing into a | when it sits on a terminial so I could change back to kwin by blindly typing kwin --replace. [Bug 883319] Re: xrandr --scale 1.2x1.2 restricts area in which mouse moves
** Description changed: in kubuntu (and ubuntu) 11.04 i used to enlarge my laptop screen like so xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2 this worked fine: the desktop scaled to larger size correctly . After upgrading to 11.10, in kde the desktop still resizes correctly, but the movement of the mouse is restricted to an area equal to - the screen size *before* issuing the scaling command. .. + the screen size *before* issuing the scaling command. .. Ie let's say + the mode is 1366x768 and I do xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2 the + screen size changes to 1640x922 but the mouse moves in an area the size of + 1366x768 in the top left of the screen and then 'hits a wall' preventing + it to move. Some time ago there was a similar issue, which was resolved later. Now it seems to be back... jos@samsungsucks:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 11.10 Release:11.10 jos@samsungsucks:~$ xrandr --version xrandr program version 1.3.5 Server reports RandR version 1.3 ** Description changed: in kubuntu (and ubuntu) 11.04 i used to enlarge my laptop screen like so xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.2x1.2 this worked fine: the desktop scaled to larger size correctly . [Bug 480970] [NEW] blank screen, no ttys, no mouse on boot after last update
Public bug reported: Have been running kubuntu 9.10 with kde and gnome (on laptop packard bell bg46). After running the last update and rebooting, I see the blue kubuntu logo with progress bar, but then only a blank screen. I tried to switch to a text terminal (alt-fn) but that doesn't work. When I choose the previous kernel in grub (2.6.31-14-generic) I see the same. Using the kernel before that to start up (2.6.27-14-generic) kubuntu starts in a low graphics mode (hence I can write this mail). Then kdm start up and I can start kde or gnome. But still I have no mouse, but my wacom graphics tablet does work. What is the way to proceed in a case like this? Is there some way to repeat the update (in case something went wrong?) Here I some error messages I see when kubuntu is saying it is starting in low graphics mode: (EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to open DRM device for: No such file or directory (EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to open DRM master (EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to initialize kernel memory manager (EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics touch pad: Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware (EE) PreInt failed for input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad (EE) config/hal: New input device request failed (8 ) Have been running kubuntu 9.10 with kde and gnome (on laptop packard bell bg46).
