[Bug 1962565] Re: gnome-shell occupies a lot of ram and blocks system
attached you can find a screenshot of htop after deleting multiple files. The ram usage does not seem to be dependent of the files deleted (no apparent difference between deleting 200 files totaling 75mb and 500 files totaling 700mb) In this instance there were almost 40 processes of the gnome-shell running "alt+f2" "r" cleared the used ram but did not reduce the number of gnome-shell processes. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2022-03-01 10-54-41.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1962565/+attachment/5564430/+files/Screenshot%20from%202022-03-01%2010-54-41.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962565 Title: gnome-shell occupies a lot of ram and blocks system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1962565/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1962565] [NEW] gnome-shell occupies a lot of ram and blocks system
Public bug reported: sometimes the system uses 11GB of 16GB ram for 10+ gnome-shell processes. It seemingly occurs as soon as deleting files via the file manager. It occurred for me when trying to delete 500 files with a total of 700mb but also when just deleting 200 files totaling around 75mb. A suggested solution to try gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock show-trash false (bug 1876641, mentioned to me in bug 1962357) did not resolve the issue. [Bug 1962357] Re: gnome-shell takes a lot of ram
Hi again, a quick update: the issue occurs for me when I try to delete several files at once. In this instance I deleted about 500 files totaling 700mb but in another instance I only deleted about 200 files totaling just 75mb. The attached screenshot shows the ram usage as soon as the system was responsive again (which took about 3-5 minutes). ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2022-02-28 16-57-00.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1962357/+attachment/5564193/+files/Screenshot%20from%202022-02-28%2016-57-00.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1962357 Title: gnome-shell takes a lot of ram To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1962357/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1962357] Re: gnome-shell takes a lot of ram
Hi, I've got a problem with extensive ram usage of the gnome-shell processes as well. It even causes my system to freeze up sometimes (when the ram is too low) and caused my system to crash a few times today already. I noticed it occurring in the last week or so. It might be related to Ubuntu version 20.04.4? On my system the ram is filled up by 10+ gnome-shell processes and they use a combined 11+Gb of 16Gb ram. On a similar system with ubuntu 20.04.3 this does not seem to occur. My system has 12 cores and 16gb ram. Disabling gnome-shell extensions did not resolve the ram usage. The issue sometimes occurs on startup and sometimes not. A restart via "alt+f2" "r" cleared the ram for me in one instance when I noticed the ram shortage but it did not prevent the issue from re-occurring. [Bug 1881516] [NEW] PC fails to power-off on kernel 5.3.0.53
Public bug reported: I have a Desktop PC with MSI PRO B450-A PRO Motherboard and CPU Intel Core AMD RYZEN 3 3200G 4-Core 3.6 GHz, and RAM CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM. OS is Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Current kernal 5.3.0.53. This system has been in operation normally for about 6 months. However, around 5/20/20, this problem started. On shutdown, shutdown screens/activity seem normal, then the video is cut and system appears to have shutdown, however the PC power/power LED remain on. I have to hold the power button to turn completely off. In order to further isolate this issue, I ran fsck (no errors). Shutdown from Live CD session is normal. When I boot into kernal 5.3.0.51, shutdown is normal. So this appears to be an issue related to kernal 5.3.0.53. Repeated switching kernal back and forth confirms problem only existing on 5.3.0.53. [Bug 1862451] [NEW] Dolphin (file manager) renaming other files when copying a file
Public bug reported: I opened Dolphin in a directory with a lot of large (video) files. I then created another Dolphin window of another directory (on the same file system.) I proceeded to move files from one to the other. Because the pop-up menu gets old quickly I held down Shift to make sure I got move behaviour without the pop-up. Expected Result: The file "old/A.mp4" is moved to "new/". Actual Result: The file "old/A.mp4" is correctly moved to "new/A.mp4" But in addition, some random "old/B.mp4" has been silently renamed "old/A.mp4" This happened twice. I've "refreshed" dolphin and it seems the change is real in the filesystem, not just an error in the display. I believe this is a serious bug, as it has result in data loss (ie the file B has lost its name) Workaround: just use the pop-up menu Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS Release:18.04 dolphin: Installed: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: dolphin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1862451 Title: Dolphin (file manager) renaming other files when copying a file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dolphin/+bug/1862451/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1824169] [NEW] krdc asks for unspecified password when reconnecting
Public bug reported: If I quit krdc without disconnecting sessions (eg by logging out of xubuntu), then when I restart krdc it tries to restart the session (I don't think it should, but that's not the bug), and correctly asks me for a password. However, it doesn't specify the host when asking for the password. Since I connect to different hosts and I don't always remember which one I used last, I may type the wrong password (ie from a different host.) [Bug 1823346] [NEW] SD card stays locked even when unlocked
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Release:18.04 After card reader device is used with write-protected SD card, write- protection incorrectly persists to future SD cards, even non-protected ones. To reproduce: 1) Insert non-protected SD card in card reader (confirm system normal): $ sudo hdparm -r /dev/sdd /dev/sdd: readonly = 0 (off) [result is correct] 2) Eject card, set physical lock on side of card, reinsert: $ sudo hdparm -r /dev/sdd /dev/sdd: readonly = 1 (on) [result is correct - card read-only] 3) Eject card again, unlock card, reinsert $ sudo hdparm -r /dev/sdd /dev/sdd: readonly = 1 (on) [result is **incorrect** (card still locked)] Because the lock is still set, the device always appears read-only. (For example, I cannot "dd" to /dev/sdd) Workaround: after removing the locked card, issue "sudo hdparm -r0" to turn off the lock. Then insert the unlocked card and the device will appear read/write. Public bug reported: after locking the screen with ctl-alt-l the keyboard state changes to something strange. I usually leave the keypad in the non-num-lock mode, so that eg "2" maps to up-arrow (otherwise my keyboard has no dedicated arrow keys, so this is important.) During lock (eg at the password screen) the num-lock seems to be engaged automatically, and I think 2 maps to 2 again (which isn't a problem.) However, after unlock "2" maps to something odd, neither "2" nor "up". I have to press num-lock TWICE to get back to my preferred no-num-lock state. This is wrong. The problem is similar with all the keypad keys, "2" is just an example. The arrow mode is something built-in to my Quick-fire cooler master cm-storm keyboard, it's not something I hacked myself. This behaviour appeared after I performed LTS upgrade from Xubuntu 16.04 to Xubuntu 18.04 I'm guessing this is the right package to report, as xscreensaver is not installed, and flock tries first xscreensaver-command and then "light- locker-command --lock" Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 light-locker: Installed: 1.8.0-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.8.0-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.8.0-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: light-locker 1.8.0-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-45.48-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-45-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Wed Feb 13 09:03:48 2019 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-09-28 (867 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) SourcePackage: light-locker UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2019-01-14 (30 days ago) ** Affects: light-locker (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1815730 Title: keyboard state scrambled after unlock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1815730/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1257956] Re: Headphones stopped working after use of Audacity. They are detected, but no sound is produced.
I also ran into this issue yesterday on a Dell XPS13. It is nothing Audacity specific and you can easily trigger this yourself by just running 'amixer -c 0 set "Headphone Mic" cap' or starting alsamixer, switching to the capture devices and activating the "Headphone Mic" by pressing Space on it. Similarly, you can get your headphone sound back by instead capturing from the internal mic. All in all, there is no bug anywhere. [Bug 1654600] Re: unattended-upgrade-shutdown hangs when /var is a separate filesystem
@louis-bouchard "Started Unattended Upgrades Shutdown." means that the unit was started. Since the patch assumes that we don't use "ExecStart" this means nothing. [Bug 1617456] [NEW] [Feature Request] Gaming Mode for Unity

This is why Ubuntu should treat them well and I think they can do that with little effort. Notifications can be annoying while playing a game and cause a drop in FPS. Solution: So, Unity 8 should not display the at all during a game. Maybe a sound could inform the user instead? - Disable Keys That Throw You To The Desktop Problem: Accidentally hitting the SUPER- or ALT-key could throw you to the desktop Solution: they should be disabled and the user should instead just use ALT + TAB to get to the desktop. [Bug 1556607] Re: Switchboard crashes on clicking Power button
@MinuteMan i woudl suggest a reinstall why? because on 13 march you were still on kernel 3.13 while back in January update to kernel 3.16 was already available. One more reason to do a reinstall is because switchboard self gives the warning that it cannot find plugs in the folder they should be placed. which could mean you. there has gone something wrong without you knowing what you changed. or you are not an a official build of elementary os and you installed switchboard and all its plugs self on the distro you are using, you need cmake options to have the plug in the right folder for switchboard. i think you should try to reinstall if the problem still exist let me know and provide a new output of this command "switchboard -d power" thanks in advance ** Changed in: switchboard-plug-power Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1556607 Title: Switchboard crashes on clicking Power button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/switchboard-plug-power/+bug/1556607/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
