[Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver

2020-07-25 Thread Kenji
Anyone try 5.8.0rc6 yet? I decided to try on a whim since this is a
really new laptop. It got rid of many error messages I was getting. And,
I removed the "EnablePageFlip" entry (so back to default) and sleep does
work normally in 5.8.0r6. Maybe try that and see, or wait until stable
releases. Furthermore, VLC would get stuck in the background after
opening, I would have to kill the process, but now I no longer have to
do that either!

[Bug 1849084] Re: Freeze on system-resume caused by kwin and amdgpu driver

2020-07-23 Thread Kenji
New to the thread, HP envy, ryzen 4500. Running 5.7.10, Mint 20.

Had the same issues as everyone else, sleep with lid wont allow it to
wake, but oddly if I manually suspend, it comes back fine.

Tried fix #54 and it did seem to fix my issues, thank you khitschler.

I dont have any screen tearing or any artifacts in 4k videos. So I might
be lucky, it's a decent fix for me.

I'll keep an eye on the thread to see if a better fix comes out, not
sure what EnablePageFlip actually does for my laptop.

[Bug 1795292] Re: ELAN469D touch pad not working

2019-08-10 Thread Kenji
Hi Kai-Heng Feng,

So I downloaded all the files, then ran "sudo dpkg -i linux-*.deb" (i
think that is how you install the test kernel?)

When I tried to boot without IVRS or quiet splash, it got stuck on
"Loading initial ramdisk" and never got past it.

So I tried to go in recovery, still got the IOAPIC[32] not in IVRS table, then
eventually kernel panic again because "timer doesnt work through
interrupt-remapped io-apic"
https://imgur.com/Th1mdXB

If you have more test I can try to boot to see what happens

On a side note, for everyone else:

On ubuntu and mint I had freezing happening every few days, never could
last a week without it freezing at least once. However, since booting
off kernel 5.2.3, ive not had any freezing yet. So you may want to try
that kernel if you have also experienced freezing systems. Note, when I
first booted, i got a blank cursor at the login screen. Had to install
drivers from amd, and then it worked after a reboot. Still need the
"ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0" though. More info here

[Bug 1838176] [NEW] Kernel 5.2.3 fails to fully boot on Lenovo 330s-15arr, ideapad_laptop: Unknown event: 10

2019-07-27 Thread Kenji
Public bug reported:

Was on 4.20, booted fine (with the boot option ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0)

Tried to boot 5.2.3 (but I believe this happened on 5.1.X too)

It will boot to a certain extent, it does my disk password, i can see
everything say "ok" when i do no quiet splash. But where it should go to
the login screen I just see a single cursor

Setting nomodeset lets me boot, looking at logs:

[Bug 1795292] Re: ELAN469D touch pad not working

2019-01-09 Thread Kenji
Dont have anything much to add, but just wanted to mention:

I was on Ubuntu for a few months but kept getting freezes randomly. It
would just stop in the middle of anything, could be the browser, could
be a video, could be when it goes to sleep.

Not sure if it was a hardware issue (SSD), but I changed to my NVME
drive and also went to Linux Mint 19.1. Last time I tried (I think mint
19?), the ivrs_ioapic command did not work, however this time it did (at
least on 19.1). Only problem is when you boot into the setup screen, the
screen is fractured, it doesn't display right. So do "nomodeset" to get
it installed. Once you install it and boot into mint, upgrade the kernel
to 4.20. That fixed my screen issue. Everything else works perfect when
the ivrs added. Haven't had and freezing yet either, so crossing my
fingers.

Hm, yea that sounds almost hardware at this point. I had issues
initially but they cleared up (and even my FN keys work now, idk how). I
think I almost have everything working at this point, on the newest
BIOS, on ubuntu 18.04 and custom 4.19.

Last thing I can suggest was I got the kernel from here instead of
kernel.org, but not sure that makes a big difference

[Bug 1795292] Re: ELAN469D touch pad not working

2018-11-10 Thread Kenji
SUCCESS!!!

Ok. So I updated my bios, they just released a new version 4 days ago.

I still booted off my kernel 4.19 with modified elan 061E

So after that, still didnt work. So I went to check recovery mode. I
would get a black screen on removing noacip so I wanted to see why.

Turns out I have a problem with IVRS table
https://superuser.com/questions/1052023/ioapic0-not-in-ivrs-table

Saw the problem number, for me was 32

So I put ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0 in grub boot, and it boots, AND MY
TOUCHPAD WORKS!

[Bug 1795292] Re: ELAN469D touch pad not working

2018-11-10 Thread Kenji
Can you guys check your BIOS version? I think that might be part of an
issue. Im on 7WCN27WW

I cannot boot without noacip, but can boot without nomodeset. On the
lenovo thread, 2 people did the same thing, downloaded 4.18 and changed
the ELAN to 061E and it worked for them. However it does not work for
me, I get the same errors as people above, supply vddl not found, using
dummy regulator on Ubuntu 18.04

I flashed my BIOS with the latest version, but lenovo did a bad job. I
could not save certain settings, kept getting an error. I had to reset
my BIOS by taking the battery out, then it saved properly. But I wonder
if something else might be wrong. It seems weird they can get it working
but I cant, and Im wondering if it's the noacip causing it, because of a
bad BIOS setting?

[Bug 1795292] Re: ELAN469D touch pad not working

2018-11-08 Thread Kenji
Figured out my wifi issue. Can't get it working with Linux Mint, not
sure why. Ubuntu works fine. I had to disable some options in my bios to
get wifi (AMD security off, boot mode legacy support, boot priorty
legacy first and OS optimized defaults enabled). Once I had those set, I
was able to go to the grub setup and do "nomodeset" and "noapic" which
makes it install and work with wifi. I tried the same options in Linux
Mint but it would not get past the initial boot/setup/grub, kept getting
kernel panics or ACIP errors. I can with "apci=off" but then wifi will
not enable and show it "disabled by hardware", and no FN keys re-enable
it. So I'll stick to Ubuntu for now, since wifi works at least. Still no
idea on the touchpad, I tried a few kernels (4.17, 4.18, 4.19), tried to
email someone from ELAN but got nothing so far :/

Indeed I tried as well, did not work either. I may make an account and
ask the user which kernel version they used. Also seeing they keyboard
issue, very strange. And my wifi says "disabled by button/airplane mode
on" but there is no button the laptop, and my BIOS has wifi "enabled",
so not sure why that doesn't work either.

1)download any kernel source from kernel.org(better choose the version that you
are running presently or just the next updated version of it)
*use the command 'uname -a' to find the current kernel version

2)extract the kernel source and find the file
17.4.xx/drivers/input/mouse/elan_i2c_core.c

3)locate the line { "ELAN061C", 0 } edit that '61C' to '61E' and save that file
4)compile and use your new kernel
(this link may help if you are a newbie in kernel compiling.I simply followed
it-https://medium.freecodecamp.org/building-and-installing-the-latest-linux-kernel-from-source-6d8df534...)

[Bug 1647721] Re: unavailable to delete any message

2016-12-28 Thread Morimoto Kenji
I found that 'Trash' file was removed in my profile folder,
even though 'Trash.msf' stil existed.

After "touch Trash ; chmod 777 Trash" this issue has been
totaly resolved.

I have no idea whether this issue is environment specific
or not, and why my Trash file was removed in upgrade time.

[Bug 1617551] Re: Fresh installation on VirtualBox crashed: NVMe + SDD used as the only drive

2016-10-05 Thread Siu Ching Pong (Asuka Kenji)
As mentioned in the bug report above, the host configuration is:

Host:
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012)
Processor: 3.4GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB

And the memory configuration of the guest is:

System:
  Motherboard:
Base Memory: 4096 MB

The host is running fine all the time, so it is not likely a hardware
problem on the host.

The error is repeatable every time if "NVMe" is used, and there is no
error if "NVMe" is not used in VirtualBox.

The installation is successful on a real machine with "NMVe" (U.2
drive). So, there must be some error in either Ubuntu or VirtualBox.

[Bug 1376979] [NEW] examples/cbq.init-v0.7.3 script is not in Ubuntu style

2014-10-02 Thread Kenji Kikuchi
Public bug reported:

Hello, I noticed three observations in the cbq.init-v0.7.3 script:
(1) Instead of using the Redhat style '/etc/sysconfig directory for bandwidth
settings it is better to use the existing /etc/default directory. Currently
it makes us create the new '/etc/sysconfig directory and the new directory
contains only this script.
(2) There is no LSB style init stanza required in the Ubuntu system startup.
(3) It specifies the -maxdepth option for find command after the -name
option. It prevents full execution of the script.

If the ”cbq.init-v0.7.3 script follows Ubuntu style it will really
simplify our operations.

[Bug 271339] Re: package linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic 2.6.24-19.41 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2008-11-18 Thread Siu Ching Pong (Asuka Kenji)
This bug is simple to reproduce.

Just boot from the Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop i386, select the Try Ubuntu
without making changes to my computer.

After booting successfully, open Software Sources.

Check all checkboxes in the Ubuntu Software tab.

Then, in the Updates tab, check only Important security updates
(intrepid-security).

Then use the Update Manager to update the system.

It reports this crash after downloading and installing the updates.

[Bug 177295] Re: ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting.

2008-02-24 Thread Kenji Yamamoto
Same problem here:
Issue: Wireless connection breaks every now and then, sometimes just stopping
the connection so that i have to reconnect to the network, sometimes bringing
the wireless connection to a complete halt. If that happens killing
NetworkManager and restarting it helps, sometimes killing NetworkManager and
reloading the ipw2200 module helps, sometimes only restarting the complete
system helps. Happens mostly when wireless usage is very high, e.g.
downloading a file fullspeed, having many different connections at the same
time (mail is beeing checked by kmail, firefox running and loading, watching
Zattoo, being connected via ssh, using FTP and skypeing). It also seems to not
work nicely at all using a vpn connection. Happens with WEP, WPA and no
encryption.

Error msg:
[32615.828000] ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting. (only when i get
kicked out of my wireless connection. simply reconnecting usually works fine)

Haven't got any error msgs when it comes to a complete halt. Will try to
update this post when I caught one.

My hardware:
A (still original) IBM Thinkpad R51 Type 1829 running Kubuntu Gutsy on
2.6.22-14-generic.

Also a friend of mine has the same problem with a brand new Dell Laptop
running Gutsy. But he has a ipw39xx or something wireless adapter. Will
try to convince him to file the bug.
