[Bug 338563] [NEW] kernel update fails when kernels from other distributions are installed in shared /boot
Public bug reported: I have multiple linux distributions installed on my computer with a shared /boot partition. I have had this configuration working for a while now with ubuntu as one of the distributions. With jaunty, updates break the boot process every time there is a kernel update and dselect attempts to regenerate initramfs as it incorrectly selects the image from another distribution rather than the ubuntu image. The error message is as follows: Setting up initramfs-tools (0.92bubuntu21) ... update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated) Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ... update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-initrd-2.6.27.7-desktop-1mnb.img Cannot find /lib/modules/initrd-2.6.27.7-desktop-1mnb.img update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-initrd-2.6.27.7-desktop-1mnb.img dpkg: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 In this case, deselect is trying to update the initrd image for Mandriva - instead of regenerating the ubuntu image: initrd.img-2.6.28-8-generic ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kernel update fails when kernels from other distributions are installed in shared /boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338563 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have the same issue - Intel chip set. [Bug 274280] [NEW] intrepid ibex - xorg fails to load: (EE) module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1)
Public bug reported: I tried to upgrade from Hardy to intrepid ibex and xorg fails to load. A gui pops up showing the error message (EE) module ABI major version (0) doesn't match the server's version (1) (EE) Failed to load module dri (module requirement mismatch, 0) and offers to reconfigure xorg but is not able to do so. Manually changing the Driver in xorg.conf from fglrx to radeon (which xorg.99.log confirms loads ok) does not appear to stick - it is is changing back to fglrx on reboot. [Bug 213776] Re: update-manager does not download all updates in download but do not install mode if interrupted
bug 194984 appears to be different - in that bug, there is no connection and update-manager consumes resources. The other bug (this one) is that in download but not install mode if it checks for updates and say finds that 4 updates are available but is only able to download 1 by the time the laptop was turned off; it does not resume downloading the remaining 3 before indicating that updates are available; neither does it check if more updates are now available. By all means both bugs can be fixed at the same time; but the symptoms are different. -- update-manager does not download all updates in download but do not install mode if interrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 213776] [NEW] update-manager does not download all updates in download but do not install mode if interrupted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager The download but do not install option in update-manager works well and downloads all uploads if the system is kept on and connected to the internet for all downloads to be downloaded. This does not function as expected with the usage on a laptop that may not be always connected. If there are updates to be installed, the update-manager starts downloading updates in the background. However, once interrupted, it does not resume the background downloading; but only shows that updates as available. The updates then can be manually downloaded and installed. This has been observed 8.04 beta as well as earlier versions of ubuntu. The desired functionality is to continue background downloading whenever the internet connection is again available; so that the user does not have to wait for a long time for updates to download with the update manager in the foreground. ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- update-manager does not download all updates in download but do not install mode if interrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
